i come with a hot take that i dont expect to be well received by others but here goes:

i think pjms really need to cut out the “thailand streaming farm” narrative, for several reasons.

streaming culture has been popularized by armys throughout the years. as far as i can remember, there has been a lot of discourse among chart-oriented armys for years (since the english trilogy era) about both vietnam’s and thailand’s streaming practices. they were the first ones’ to push the account-switching techniques that a lot of streamers use today. back then, it was deemed unsustainable and risky by most chartmys bc it led to large drops when people got tired of doing that. now, its the mainstream streaming practice in the fandom and other countries have managed to make it a more sustainable effort (i.e., LC’s longetivity in the US). the US is the most praised sector of pjms (and deservedly so, they work their asses off) while still using that technique so why are overall pjms much harsher with how they express themselves about thai armys/pjms vs us pjms? honestly sometimes it feels mildy xenophobic to me when is see those kinds of tweets/posts.

while i definitely get that their lack of consistency amd favoritism towards some members has been annoying in the past i don’t think we can say the same anymore. sgmb got more streams day one than nlg and every single jk song released last year (every.single.one and more than double for some of them).

i also cant believe i had to find this information out by a random jjk that popped up on my search this morning when i was looking up today’s sp update (you can imagine my horror when i confirmed those numbers).

jjks frequently and stupidly use the bot narrative for usa pjms, and in all honesty, pjms look just as dumb using the streaming farm narrative for thai armys/solos. its giving that meme of spidermens pointing at each other bc in reality were ALL “bots” were ALL “streaming farms”. we are all a somewhat small group of people (within the market) putting in an extreme effort for our artists. let’s not fool ourselves into cultish them vs us mentalities when (for some things) we are not that different.

Thailand streams get called out because the numbers they pull are not proportionate to the number of users that they have in their country. Look at SK for example. Their lowest entry right now is 4.3k. Top 50 12.8k Top 20 23k Top 10 37k Top 5 60k With top spot being LC with 118k. Proportionate. Brazil, a chart range somewhat similar to the US. Lowest entry is 182k. Top 50 381k Top 20 612k Top 10 882k Top 5 1.06M and Top spot 1.14M.

The lowest entry for Thai charts right now is 28k. Then you get to top 50, that’s 68k. Top 20 (which is Espresso by Sabrina) 98k Top 10 167k. From there is gets sus because to make a jump from that to the top 3 current spots which are 524k, 1.13M, 1.8M. (Down from 6/29 where Rockstar & SGMB had 2.5M and 2.2M respectively and the lowest entry was 26k.) Then you look at the #3 spot from that same day and it was 484k. The gap between #3 and #2 was around 1.7M. Like you cannot tell me that’s normal cause it isn’t. You don’t see those kinds of gaps on any other country chart. So It doesn’t have anything to do with xenophobia (or being upset about the fact that that country is TK majority) because there are other Asian countries and countries outside the US that don’t get called out since they do have streams proportionate to their population and have reasonable ranges.

Bringing up US fans streaming in comparison to Thai fans is also odd to do because it’s not the same. The lowest entry on the US chart is 340k Top 50 starts at 600k, Top 20 841k Top 10 1M with top 5 being 2.1M. That’s also a very proportional chart. Jimin’s numbers in America have always sat in the 200k-to 1M range without significant jumps coming out of nowhere.

Him going from a 465k debut with LC to 2.2M with SGMB from Thailand is not just the 20x cap per account method, that’s something else being employed there. And it’s not that they got “stronger” either.

I’ve expressed my discontent with a large chunk of SGMB’s streams coming from Thailand on multiple occasions. I’ve wanted it far away from Jimin for this exact reason. I’m not denying that there isn’t a concentrated effort to get better numbers in general. And I don’t think any pjm is “fooling themselves” into thinking that how they stream is entirely organic. It’s not, but I still won’t put it on the level of what some Thai fans are doing.

MGA Twin-Cam 

From the late 1940s until the MG factory at Abingdon closed in 1980, it was the huge American demand for British sports cars that brought sufficient orders to keep the production lines in business. While other countries around the world and the home market were important, none was as important as North America. The modern-looking, streamlined MGA was introduced in 1955 and this too proved to be a sales success in MG's most important market. Of a total production of 101,081 MGAs, 81,401 were exported to the USA, some eighty-one per cent of the total market. Owing to the importance of this market, it was not surprising that BMC was keen to support any efforts MG might make to promote their products in America. One route was through record breaking attempts such as the supercharged MG Twin Cam EX181 which Stirling Moss and Phil Hill drove in 1957/9, setting world class records. The other was through sports car racing. Perhaps the most important circuit for MG in the post-war period in the USA, and also a major fixture on the international racing calendar, were the races held on an airfield circuit near Sebring in Florida.

These were established in 1950 by former Briggs Cunningham team manager, Alec Ulmann, who decided to mimic the French 24 Hour Le Mans concept by running endurance races for production sports cars. From the first six hour race in 1950, MGs figured well in both overall and class results. From 1951 the race was lengthened to 12 hours and was particularly gruelling owing to the bumpy nature of the circuit. In that year an MG special placed fourth overall and TDs won the team prize. By 1956 the MGA had arrived and three north American MG importers entered standard cars with aero-screens and straight-through exhaust systems, finishing a credible fourth, fifth and sixth in class. The following year they were more successful, taking the team prize and gaining first and second in class.

In 1958 the higher performance Twin Cam had been announced, but there were no officially-supported MG entries that year. In 1959 the competition department at Abingdon became serious and prepared three Twin Cam coupes to race and shipped over a mass of spare parts and a fourth practice car. Entered through the MG concessionaires, The Hambro Corporation, all three cars finished in a very wet race including a second and third place result in the 1,300cc to 1,600cc class. A class win at Le Mans also added to the momentum so in 1960 Abingdon once again prepared the factory team, this year with many more modifications. For racing the three cars got bigger SU-carburetors, a close-ratio four-speed gearbox, locked differentials, bigger fuel-tanks, a modified cold-air inlet system and additional oil coolers. The bumpers were deleted, lightweight alloy-hardtops from Vanden Plas, and a special cockpit tonneau panel to accommodate a hypothetical traveling suitcase (a new FIA requirement for 1960). two additional spotlights, while the whole car got a typical painting in British Racing Green with different stripes per car to distinguish them on the track. The three race entries were registered UMO 96, 93 and 95.

Thanks for getting back to me, thinking back after I sent you the ask you are right and it would have been another year I saw the shuttle. You never forget something like that but the year you can. It was getting on to dusk and I and another train driver had just taken a number of Locomotives to our Motive Power Centre for servicing at Dry Creek North South Australia,a long bright streak of light in the east appeared and was travelling south to north lasted about 45 seconds to a minute before it was gone and the local news I didn't see until much later mentioned it. It was a beautiful sight to see and can't recall if shuttle was on its orbit to re-enter atmosphere or that was just a normal orbit. With the Railways I also was lucky enough to pick up cheaply from a second hand book store in Broken Hill a box of NASA related articles along with a 1973 letter from NASA's Space Office in Canberra ACT, corroborating the items (not individually) for the Broken Hill Space Club and various badges were amongst it plus the signatures of the Apollo 11 crew which should be real signatures and not auto-pen as was used later. A Nestle's Conquest of Space book to be a member of The Nestle's Space Club was included and has no date of printing but written by a John Gunn A.R.Ae.S and only printed in Australia by W.C. Penfold &Co Pty Ltd , Sydney. With the acknowledgements thanking United States Information Service Sydney and Mrs Robert H Goddard,Mass,USA for the supply of photographs and information on late Dr Robert H Goddard plus thanking U.S.S.R Embassy in Australia. It has pictures that children collected from various Nestle products and stuck them in corresponding photo boxes, would like to know the year of printing but first entry written in log at rear is Sputnik I 1957 up to 9 March 1961 and then stops with 4th Spaceship launched and weighed 4 1/2 tons. That was written after Feb 4 1961 Sputnik IV launched 6 1/2 tons. Not all pictures collected but it is a good memory of beginning of Space Race. Sorry for using up so much space on your ask. Btw I was born 30 May 1959 the year the infamous Edsell car was released onto the market. Cheers from Australia.

Kalashnikov USA KP-9

Let’s talk about a little AK that many folk may or may not have heard about, the Kalashnikov USA KP-9. This is an interesting firearm to say the least. It’s an all USA made semi-auto variant of the Russian 9MM AK called the Vityaz. Unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible to acquire a real Vityaz, so Kalashnikov USA decided to make their own for the U.S. market. Dare I say it, but the KP-9 and associated variants have probably been KUSA’s most successful entry into the U.S. made AK world…there just aren’t many other options for those that want a “true” 9MM AK that’s being used in foreign militaries. The KP-9 is as close to the “real” version from my understanding as it can get.

There are a few different variants of the KP-9. Mainly these variants are manufactured in order to comply with the ever confusing firearm laws of different states that require barrel lengths or other attributes. These different variants pop up from time to time over at Brownells, but typically sell out relatively quick. Other Kalashnikov USA firearms and AK variants are also commonly found over at Brownells. I’ve owned my KP-9 for around 2 years now and have enough rounds through it, to give a good idea of what to expect if you purchase one. My particular KP-9 wasn’t perfect, it did have some finish wear on the safety selector, which didn’t bother me none as it’s an AK and will be treated as such. The one mechanical issue I ran into early on was the top cover rail assembly was out of spec. According to Kalashnikov USA, there were a batch manufactured that were out of spec. They promptly sent me out a replacement top cover and hinge pin so that I could replace it. Within the last 6 months there was quite a commotion on the internet with KP-9 owners as a number of them had experienced out of battery discharges. It took KUSA some time, but they came up with a solution or fix for the bolt assembly to rectify this. You only had to send in your bolt/carrier and they would apply the change and get it right back to you. The turnaround time for my repair was relatively quick and took no more than 2 weeks including transit time. At the end of the day, KUSA has done right by all accounts to fix any issues.

The firearm itself, it’s one sweet shooter! I have installed a 3 lug adapter and run a Rugged Obsidian suppressor. It can be a little bit gassy, but suppresses very well. I also opted to swap out the typical AK trigger for an ALG trigger. The ALG trigger is a super crisp and fast running trigger and KI much prefer them when possible in my AK platforms. For an optic, I’m running the Holosun 510C which is more or less their version of an Eotech. It’s a good and robust optic and I’ve had no complaints about it. Recently I submitted a Form 1 to the ATF so that I could finally install the proper triangle folding stock assembly. This is how the KP-9 should be!

David Gale Lost Media List (last update: 09/03/2024)

Unknown Status:

1. Boston (shot before 1976?) This film is mentioned as a movie credit in his biography section of the playbill for “Serenading Louie” (1976).

Lost permanently:

1. Encounter (1965)  This was Robert De Niro's film debut, and  various documents credit David Gale as appearing in the film as well. There was only one negative, and it was thrown away.

At least 95% lost:

1. Love is a Many Splendored Thing (1967-1973) We don't know what role David played on this soap, but it was definitely a minor one. The show fell victim to the practice of “wiping” and “junking”, which is when studios erase/reuse film reels to save money and storage space, but the episodes on the reels obviously die in the process. Since this aired before household recording equipment became available (~1979), home recordings do not exist.

2.  The Secret Storm (1973-1974) David appeared as popular/controversial character Father Mark Reddin. Also victim to wiping/junking.

3. The Edge of Night (1976-1977) David appeared as the despicable gangster Beau Richardson. Also victim to wiping/junking.

4. The Canonization of Bishop John Neumann aka “Blessed John Neumann” (1976) This biographical drama was made for CBS News's “Religious and Cultural Specials” block aka “Look up and Live” and only aired twice, originally in March 1976 and again on June 19, 1977. 

5. Divorce Court (1984 or 1985) It's not known which episode he was in, but he played a man named Stewart in either 1984 or 1985.

6. The Silence (1975) Not sure which character David played in this, but records say he was in it. (Photo, he is at the head of the table)

Slightly Better Odds:

1. A Weekend with Strangers / Weekend Swingers (USA 1971, UK 1974) This was an X rated film with multiple documented showings into the 1980′s, and it even got an additional release overseas. This film definitely got around, and has Jennifer Welles in the billing to boot. But it's still extremely rare, and given that it's X-rated, copies were/are frequently thrown away. UPDATE: CJ Scheiner Books has a copy but is unable to locate it. A copy was believed to have been a part of the Institute of Advanced Study of Human Sexuality (IASHS) before it closed in 2018.

2. Search for Tomorrow (1982) David appeared as Rusty and Alex on the show throughout 1982 and 1983. A majority of Rusty's appearances have been found and can be accessed on YouTube, but a few are still missing, and the entirety of his appearances as the character Alex from the summer of 1982 are still lost due to P&G supposedly getting rid of all of their episodes of Search. Before he was a regular character, David appeared on Search for a week in 1977 as “Captain Porter” investigating the death of Wade Collins sometime between August and October.  

Copies are known to exist in institutional and household collections:

1. NET presentations (pre 1973) Vague entry, but David had roles in NET presentations, but which ones are not known. There is a large digital collection of NET productions (National Educational Television, which in 1973 was absorbed by PBS) in the Library of Congress and other archives. 

2. The Jackie Gleason Show (pre 1973) Another vague entry. David was on the show, but which episode(s) are not known. There is also no way to buy or stream the entirety of the show, only select episodes are on the market.

2. The American Parade (The Case Against Milligan) (1975) An episode of a historical drama series that ran on television, and was often distributed to schools on 8mm (?) film. 

3. The Molders of Troy (1980) VHS tapes and reels exist in many collections, but are still rare. I have only ever come across two VHS copies of it, but don't own a copy myself and have yet to digitize any footage.

4. Berrenger’s (1985) He was on at least one episode as a side character named Rick Carol. The whole series minus a few episodes (around 10 episodes) exist in some private collections. I've seen the first ten episodes, so he must have shown up in either 11, 12, or the unaired 13th episode.

5. Loving (1986-1987) David was on this soap opera for at least a few months as a character named “Bishop McMahon”. I have come across people who own these episodes via home-recorded VHS tapes, but I do not have any footage or own a copy myself.
