#Repost @jn.lecteur with @repostsaveapp · · · Lecture du jour... Not All Robots Après Grendel Kentucky et Fight Girls, les éditions Delcourt nous proposent un nouveau récit issu des studios AWA. Mark Russell y décrit une société futuriste peuplée d'humains et de robots domestiques dont l'équilibre semble bien fragile et menace d'exploser à tout moment. Le point central du récit tourne autour d'une famille de la classe moyenne américaine ayant un dombot qui travaille pour ramener du cash à la maison alors que les humains passent leur temps devant la TV. Mais ce Razorball semble mal dans sa "peau", limite dépressif, il passe ses soirées enfermé dans le garage (les machines auraient donc des sentiments comme l'avait supposé Philip K Dick ?). Il sera même rebaptisé Snowball pour lui montrer à quel point la famille l'apprécie (coucou les Simpsons ^^). La narration est rythmée par les échanges musclés entre deux protagonistes lors d'un débat télévisé amusant et décalé. Bref la révolte gronde chez les bots qui se demandent quelle est l'utilité des humains dans cette nouvelle organisation sociale. De plus, une nouvelle génération de droïdes à l'apparence humaine va rendre tous ces vieux tas de ferraille obsolètes, raison de plus pour leur faire péter les plombs. Tous ces éléments vont converger vers un affrontement inévitable. L'humour et la satire du début font petit à petit place à la tension et à la peur, ce récit prenant propose un vrai questionnement au lecteur qui termine l'ouvrage en se demandant s'il ne vient pas d'avoir la vision d'un futur proche peu rassurant. With the recent release in a collection of Prez: Setting A Dangerous President by DC Comics, I was lucky enough to get a review copy. I loved this book!

In a funny turn of events, I was actually listening to my favorite podcast about Star Wars comics, Star Wars Splash Page, when one of the hosts started gushing about Mark Russell since he wrote the Darth Maul: Black, White, and Red # 2. The comics that he was talking about that Russell previously wrote – like Prez, The Flintstones, and Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles – sounded hilarious and awesome. How lucky was I when the opportunity came up to read Prez?

The series, originally released in 2016, was a new take on a story from the 1970s where the United States gets a teenage President. The new version from Russell features Beth Ross who becomes President after being elected via Twitter in 2048.

The book is a hilarious and biting take on American politics, capitalism, culture, technology, and cable news. Russell manages to take the absurdity of a child winning the US Presidential election and makes it the least absurd part of this, let’s be honest, somewhat believable American future.

The artwork throughout was very fun. Ben Caldwell, Mark Morales, and Jeremy Lawson combined for a beautiful, pointed, and at times kind of cringy book.

This was excellent, and I really had a great time reading it. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone.

De Mark Russell y Mike Deodato JR.    Lo que separa a los grandes guionistas del resto es que rara vez entregan un trabajo mediocre y de vez en cuando nos regalan obras sobresalientes. Russel se ha establecido ya como un guionista del que leer sus muchas y variadas obras por méritos propios. Su humor generoso y su ácida crítica de la sociedad son constantes sea cual sea el envoltorio que elija para su caramelo.   En ésta ocasión, y aunque pueda parecer que habla sobre la obsolescencia humana frente al advenimiento robótico, Russel en realidad articula el discurso de manera que no es difícil extrapolar las diferentes situaciones a cualquier otra realidad en la que un grupo (fascista, religioso, político, geográfico, minoritario…) cosifique a otro para justificarse comportamientos que van desde discriminaciones particulares a exterminios generalizados. Porque, aunque la escala sea distinta, el mecanismo es el mismo y al ser ihnumano, lo que más le pone es un linchamiento, cómo ya se ha encargado de demostrar el algoritmo de twitter.   La verdad es que hay muchos momentos en los que levantas la vista del tebeo y piensas: “joder este tío está sembrado”.
