"Peace be with you!
"We hope that each novena we pray together is one more prayer that will bring you closer to Jesus and His comforting love. This next novena should do just that :)
"The next novena is The Novena to Mary, Undoer of Knots!
"Whenever we grow closer to Jesus' mother, our mother, we grow closer to Jesus -- because Mary always brings us to Jesus.
"We will start praying on Saturday, April 27th and we'll finish the novena on May 6th.
"The month of May is actually dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, so it's a perfect time to ask for her intercession and to begin the month of May!
"As St. Francis de Sales wrote: "Let us run to Mary, and, as her little children, cast ourselves into her arms with a perfect confidence."
Don't forget to share!"

Historical Girl Direction
🎀 The Sweet Yoke by little_obelia @littleobelia (1k, T)
Harry prays to Mother Mary, Undoer of Knots, to send a healer to attend to the Order's ailing hens. Mother Superior consults the blessed yellow pages and finds Tomlinson, L., a local veterinarian.
🎀 Oh Valley Girl by LadyLondonderry @londonfoginacup (3k, G)
Out past the rolling hills and the churning sea sits a little fishing village, nestled in a valley where its residents are protected from the elements, as well as from the outside world as a whole. Harry lives in this little fishing village, and she loves nothing more than feeling the earth beneath her and seeing the sky above her and sometimes dreaming of adventure. Then one day a ship arrives.
🎀 Too Great a Temptation by QuickedWeen @becomeawendybird (5k, G)
Harry and Louis attend a fancy dress ball.
🎀 In a Little Bit of Trouble by QuickedWeen @becomeawendybird (5k, T)
Agent Louis Tomlinson is in hot water and finds help in the most unlikely of places: the sweet waitress at her local automat.
🎀 Hoist the Colours High by Kerasines @justlarried (5k, M)
They’re facing each other, closer now, so close, cut off from the world completely, or at least it feels that way. The blanket cages them in, blocks out the moonlight, dulls the sound of the wind, the sea, and the birds coming from outside. The air is hot and musky, but she thinks she could stay under this blanket forever. It’s their own little universe, in here, shared breath and shared heat and shared time. Or: A Girl Direction Pirates of the Caribbean AU featuring Harry as Will Turner, Louis as Elizabeth Swann, swords, and my obsession with girls in men's period clothing.
🎀 Only You (Blue Always Stays True) by BeautifulWisdom @justanotherghostblr (11k, M)
Regency AU. Lady Harriet falls for her sister's best friend the elusive Alpha Lady Louise who couldn't possibly return her tender feelings. Or could she?
🎀 Withdrawal Was the Weeping by QuickedWeen @becomeawendybird (11k, E)
Confined by life and society, Harry spends her Sunday afternoons walking aimlessly about the countryside as it's her only source of freedom. One Sunday she is aided by the most beautiful woman she has ever met, but not everything is as it seems. Was it a trick of the light? Was it Harry's own active imagination? There is nothing to do but try to find her again.
🎀 Harriet and Louise by Blaaake @newleafover (29k, E)
There’s nothing Harriet can do to alter the world, but she can make Louise laugh. A regency-era girl direction AU
🎀 The Changer and the Changed by homosociallyyours @homosociallyyours (59k, M)
It’s the spring of 1977 and Harry Styles has just moved to New York City after graduating college. She knows she’s a lesbian. She just needs to figure out how to meet other lesbians. Louis Tomlinson works at a popular women’s bookstore in the Lower East Side, Womon’s Direction, where she spends her days reading feminist literature, writing poetry, exchanging friendly barbs with her boss Niall, and dreaming of finding someone to love. When Harry and Louis meet, their connection is instantaneous. Slowly but surely, Louis welcomes Harry into her community of women. Stonewall veteran and old school butch Niall; Liam, a land dyke who’s moved to the city for love; and Zayn, a lesbian musician who’s been ostracized by a vocal part of women’s community for being trans, welcome Harry with open arms, ready to help her find her place in New York City’s bustling lesbian scene. It’s a time of growth for everyone involved.
🎀 into the great wide open by mixedfandomfics @ficshl (69k, T)
It only took a week or so for Harry to truly get into the routine of life on the road. They woke before dawn each morning, ate a small meal, packed up the tent and rounded up the livestock, all before setting out. On a good day, they could make it twenty miles. There hadn’t been many bad ones, but Louis confessed that on a previous trip there had been a solid week where they hadn’t made it more than five miles a day. Soon, Louis promised, animals would start going lame, and wheels would start breaking, and people would start going hungry. The beginning was the easiest, and the end was doable only because the hope of finishing the trek fueled everyone. It was the middle bit, with the tedious marching hundreds of miles from any settlement, that people succumbed to the journey.
🎀 Among Lavender Fields by homosociallyyours @homosociallyyours (70k, E)
At twenty-one, Louis Tomlinson is more than ready to shed the girl next door image that's been with her since her entry into film in her childhood, but with a mother and father steeped in Hollywood tradition it's felt impossible. Meanwhile, Harry Styles is a young, struggling musician new to London, friendless yet eager for the next phase of her life to begin. When French director Marie Coutard casts the two of them in her film, it's a chance for both to break away from the people they've been. Together, they struggle through an acting process that's new and unfamiliar for both of them, learning more than they could've imagined about themselves along the way. As they spend long days picking lavender and long nights sharing the things they've never been able to tell anyone else, their love blooms. Will the flower fade, or will the love they make among lavender fields be one they carry with them to the end?

do you think laura lee is a catholic? I always thought she was a protestant (mainly bc im a catholic from NJ and the snippets of her pre-crash life didn't seem to line up w/ my experiences) but i've seen some people say she's a catholic and you're like the catholic expert on here so i wanted to ask you
No I do not. Laura Lee is Protestant as all get-out.
I think people read Laura Lee as Catholic for a few different reasons. The first is the "Camp Mary Magdalene" thing; this seems to be the name of her summer camp in the 1x08 flashback (although as @lais-a-ramos has pointed out there's other stuff in this scene indicating that this is a meet of multiple camps and thus CMM might not be her own), and, while it's a weird name for a Catholic summer camp to have, it's a way weirder one for a Protestant one to have. But this doesn't necessarily mean much other than that she or her parents wanted something "faith-based"; I grew up in New Jersey as well, was raised vaguely Christian by a lapsed Catholic mother, and went to a summer camp so Jewish that we sang the Israeli national anthem every morning. (This would come across as very incendiary of the camp in Current Year, but this was the late 2000s, and at least la Mantovana is a great melody.) The nondiegetic reason for the camp's name is probably just that the people who make the show don't cornplate these things as much as autistic Yellowjackets superfans* do.
There's also the "our blonde patron saint" description of her in the season 1 scripts. I think "patron saint" is being used more broadly and allusively here; my guess is that direction was written by someone who was from a Catholic background themselves. It also ties into the show's broader themes around these girls' devotion to exalted, stylized qualities in one another. That's hard to square with a Protestant understanding of sanctity and a lot easier to square with a Catholic one.
On a broader sociocultural level, I suspect people "want" Laura Lee to be Catholic because her sort of Ned-Flanders-before-his-eponymous-TV-Trope-set-in genuinely-well-meaning Evangelical God-bothering is unfortunately kind of unusual these days. It's been supplanted by something much more aggressive and mean-spirited, including outside the US; South America in particular produces both a disproportionate number of Laura Lee stans and a disproportionate number of EXTREMELY right-wing Evangelical communities that have given her kind of Christianity an even worse name than it has in left-leaning parts of North America and Europe. So I think a lot of the fandom would like Laura Lee to be Catholic because it's a flavor of conservative-ish Christianity that people find easier to understand in a character they like. I totally get this; I'm Catholic myself. But no, I don't think she actually is Catholic. The first L in Laura Lee is for latitudinarian; the second L is for low church.
*Of whom I am the foremost; I think I was the first person in the fandom to notice that Shauna's holy card in the pilot is anachronistic, since Our Lady Undoer of Knots was not a widespread devotion outside Latin America until Pope Francis was elected. It's very popular now, so my guess is that the prop was a holy card that a Catholic member of the cast or crew happened to have close at hand during filming.

Unseen Warfare
THE EXORCIST, THE ROSARY & THE DEVIL
(3-min read)
It happened last October 7th in Milan, Italy. Don Ambrogio Villa, exorcist priest of the diocese of Milan, forced the devil, Belzebul, during the exorcism to confess to the spiritual secrets of the Holy Rosary.
Don Ambrogio - O Virgin, today is your feast, that of the Holy Rosary. I would like this "Belzebul" to give us a catechesis on the Holy Rosary. So I ask you, Madonna, we have already heard some catechesis, but today is a special feast. I ask you that for a few minutes, or for many minutes, he be forced by you to speak about the Holy Rosary. Therefore, with Mary's permission and by order of Heaven, I command you to speak to us about the Holy Rosary and its power against you. In the name of God, I command you to speak. Speak well, in clear Italian, and tell us many things and beautiful things. Speak. In correct Italian.
Belzebul - That crown (of the Rosary) destroys me.
Don Ambrogio - Speak better, in correct Italian. You are capable. Go ahead.
Belzebul - Every Hail Mary blows my mind.
Don Ambrogio - Speak, without me having to tell you. Our Lady wants you to tell us the power of the Holy Rosary against you.
Belzebul - It is a simple prayer that not everyone does. But the one who makes it is united to the life of Christ and Mary. And it blows my mind to hear that refrain. I can't stand it. I also get annoyed when people hold it in their hands, even when they're not praying it. I can't stand it. But she loves this prayer.
Don Ambrogio – Continue.
Belzebul - And he who prays it in the family has a special protection from Her. I can't go into that house. I have not been given permission. Because the power of the Holy Rosary in the family crushes me.
Don Ambrogio - Go on.
Belzebul - And in those families, if there is only one person who prays it, he can save the others in the family.
Don Ambrogio - Oh Mary, I thank you for forcing this demon Belzebul to do this publicity, this catechesis on the Rosary. O Mary, I would like to share it with many people, with your permission. Force him to speak. Go on.
Belzebul - Her favorite mysteries are those of the Passion of Christ. For there is all the salvation of mankind.
Don Ambrogio - And the Glorious ones are not?
Belzebul – Also
Don Ambrogio - Continue.
Belzebul - But to whomever recites the Rosary, I come to disturb him.
Don Ambrogio - How?
Belzebul - With thoughts. Distractions.
Don Ambrogio - But Our Lady thanks him anyway, right?
Belzebul - Yes.
Don Ambrogio - Go ahead.
Belzebul - You should pray with the children. Teach them this prayer before I come to bother them, because afterwards I steal their purity, that is, mothers should pray it for the children because I want to destroy the family and the young people.
Don Ambrogio - O Virgin, we thank you because you have given us the Rosary that you continue to recommend every time you appear. But we also thank you for these words of 'Belzebul' that in this exorcism I, your priest, am carrying out with the help and participation of six collaborators who pray and are at my side. Thank you, O Mary, if you still want to force Beelzebub to tell us something, I ask you to force him to continue.
Belzebul - To whomever prays the rosary, she gives many thanks. Really many, many. And I can't stand it. Even the novenas are blowing my mind. I can't stand them. Above all, the novena to the Virgin Undoer of Knots.
Don Ambrogio - We like Litanies a lot. I used to notice that you suffered from them. What do you say about Litanies?
Belzebul - They crush me, they annoy me!
Don Ambrogio - Why?
Belzebul: Because it is a continuous praise, praise, praise.
Don Ambrogio - But She deserves it.
Belzebul: For you!
Don Ambrogio - But is She really your Queen, even if you don't recognize Her? Or not?
Belzebul – Yes
Don Ambrogio - And after the Litanies, what else can you tell us? Because not everyone says it when they finish the Rosary.
Belzebul - I know, I know. Those who don't pray them are mistaken.
Don Ambrogio: Oh, how many beautiful things, Virgin, that you give us unexpectedly. Also through this devil whose name -at least he said the name- is Belzebul. We praise you, O Mary. Does she tell you to tell us something yet, or are you finished? Answer!
Belzebul: I am finished.
Don Ambrogio: Then we pray, O Mary. (They pray the Hail Mary). O Mary, on this day of the Holy Rosary, today, October 7, 2019, we give you thanks I am your priest, exorcist from Milan. I thank you for this gift you have given us for your glory. So be it. Amen.

Hello there, E.'s mum again! First of all, happy to see your answers and prayers back here, you were frequently in my thoughts these past few days. 💕 Hope you're doing all right!
It feels almost superfluous to ask you to join me in prayers with Sunday readings working in my heart (especially Isiah 55,8-11), but knowing you pray with me always gives me additional strength ---
We still are dealing with some long term issues with E.'s health and despite being surrounded by literal miracles every step of our way, I find myself constantly at the end of my rope. Discovering new ends of it, as it goes!
Please pray for my humility and trust, mostly, and for E. and my husband, and our care team, too!
Hi E’s Mum!,
Aww thank you so much for thinking and praying for me too along with the previous anon and others. That means a lot to me I truly appreciate all these prayers. I’m feeling much better after that retreat, some rest offline, and taking long walks in prayer. Almost the end of the work week so I can’t wait to have a hike this weekend.
Thank you for the update as well. I’ll be sure to keep you, your family, and care team close in my prayers. There is an image of our Lady and her title is Our Lady Undoer of Knots. I think you may find it comforting to look at. Mary, our Mother, will help untie all these knots you face. I’ll post it below. Stay safe and may God bless you.
-
Take My Hand, O Blessed Mother
Take my hand, O Blessed Mother. Hold me firmly lest I fall. If I’m nervous while I’m walking, quickly heed my humble call.
Guide me over every crossing. Watch me while I’m on the stairs. Let me know that you’re beside me, listen to my fervent prayers.
Bring me to my destination. Keep me safe along the way. Bless my every undertaking and my duties for the day.
Undo the knots of trouble I face and of those around me. O Blessed Mother, take my hand and guide me to the peace of your Immaculate Heart. Help me to be humble and trust like you. Amen.

Hello?
Image description: screenshot of a tumblr mobile ad featuring a photo of a cross-shaped body pillow which I believe has a reproduction of a painting of the virgin Mary stepping on a snake with a cherub behind her on it. The text says "Maria che scioglie i nodi Croce morbida in velluto da far benedire e abbracciare in preghiera per sentire la carezza della fede. Disponibile in 5 dimensioni" which is Italian for "Mary Undoer of Knots Soft velvet cross to be blessed and hugged in prayer to feel the caress of faith. Available in 5 sizes"

Let’s talk about Mary!
“Let’s talk about Mary,” I said, sitting in the office of my former Director of Religious Education (DRE). While I discerned whether to convert to Catholicism, my husband and I met one-on-one with our parish DRE for a couple of months. I still had a few things to clear up before I was ready to be accepted into the Church.
Attending a Methodist church while growing up was a positive experience. I made friends in youth group, went on mission trips and sat beside my mom and sisters at church services. Through it all, I knew who Mary was: She was Jesus’ mom, and we talked about her every time we got ready for Christmas. She carried the Son of God in her womb, rode a donkey into Bethlehem and gave birth to baby Jesus in the manger.
However, the Catholic Church placed a higher emphasis on Jesus’ mother, and many of my Protestant friends and family insisted that Catholics prayed TO Mary, and that just wasn’t okay. But when I brought up the topic of Mary to my patient and wise DRE, she smiled knowingly. It turns out that Mary is at the very top of the FAQ list for those converting to Catholicism—and our DRE was ready for the conversation.
We talked about many things that day, and I left with reading materials and a challenge to pray and discern on everything from intercessory prayer and the Rosary to the Immaculate Conception. The more I sat with it, the more Mary came into focus. She was a vessel, yes, but she was—and is—so much more than that. She is a mother to us, a feminine presence in the divine world who wants to walk with us, to comfort us, to pray for us.
Fast forward three years. I was a full member of the Catholic Church, and my husband and I had a daughter. But, despite our deepest desires to have another child, we couldn’t conceive again. In frustration I threw myself into running and joined a friend in a 10k race, during which I was mostly in prayerful consideration of the future. Along the race path, my friend and I took a wrong turn and wandered away from the other runners. Lost in the quiet, hilly streets of a neighborhood as I prayed about motherhood, we passed a yard with a Mary statue—and in my Bible-belt hometown, that was an uncommon sight.
A distinct sense of peace melted through my body as the Mother of impossible pregnancies made herself known to me. And as my legs ached and lungs screamed, I knew that no matter what my future held, it would be okay. After all, Mary endured immense suffering as Jesus’ mother, and if anyone knew my pain, it was her. Mary, Undoer of Knots, became my go to intercessor, and the prayer seeking her intercession under that title became a balm to my heart.
I’ll never stop being grateful that the Catholic Church helped me to know her more intimately and to better understand Mary’s place in my spiritual life. I hope this issue dedicated to Mary and how she has worked in the lives of the faithful will be a balm to your soul as well.
