I have a kind of conflicted feelings about Marynat. Because I love them and have justified their relationship before. BUT they have something missing for me. Like for Natasha I want this girl to have a break in her love live because she's gone through hard things okay. And maybe because I kinda prefer other ships with Maria more and I'm not a multishipper really so it's hard. But overall I respect them, they are the ending couple and I love the hurt/comfort parts with them in the last chapters but there's something that stops me and that annoys me to no end. 7.5/10

Please tell me all your thoughts on princess marya and my beloved amos (preferably without spoilers past season 4 🫶🏻)

Princess Marya

First impression: Oof it's been long enough that I don't really remember. I think I heard the prologue of Great Comet before I read w&p so it was probably "Mary is Plain." F in the chat.

Impression now: My darling girl. I think she has a lot of nuance and depth and I also find her fascinating and think about her a lot. She makes me very sad.

Favorite moment: The standout scenes of hers are always her and Andrei's early days with Nikolenka when the baby is sick and they're working through it together and the part where Anatole comes courting. The former because I love her and Andrei's relationship, its one of the most compelling in the books for me, and the latter because it shows the most of her internal perspective.

Idea for a story: Maybe a Marya POV of Andrei's illness and death? So much of that is filtered through Natasha, and Marya's perspective on losing a brother and being left to parent his child is something I might someday want to write. OR something that explores her friendship with Pierre.

Unpopular opinion: Sonya/Marya might be one of the most boring ships I've ever laid eyes on.

Favorite relationship: Platonically as I said early hers and Andrei's relationship is one of the most interesting in the book to me. Romantically...Marynat 4 life.

Favorite headcanon: Somewhat canon bc it mentions her being nearsighted I just like to think of her wearing glasses.

First impression: I don't think he interested me at all until his depth began to surface throughout the show. I guess probably "wow, his arms are huge!"

Impression now: He's literally my favorite character in The Expanse and one of my favorite characters of all time. I think he's really complex and uniquely well written.

Favorite moment: I can't think of just one honestly. "I am that guy" stands out but just bc its the most iconic.

Idea for a story: Fluff where he hangs out with Mei and Prax and does domestic stuff and gets to see a child be safe and loved and protected in a way he never got.

Unpopular opinion: Idk I've seen some weird takes on him that lack nuance but I can't think of any specifics anymore. Maybe just "his strong desire to be led to good by good people indicates that despite lacking the ability (or perhaps just confidence in his own ability) to independently determine how to be good, he is a good person."

Favorite relationship: Him and Naomi platonically, genuinely no interest in romantic story for him.

Favorite headcanon: oooh I'm not sure I have any really. I will have to think.

hélène/natasha: i used to be VERY into them but i’ve definitely mellowed. they have lost potential for sure and i think they would have a fascinating dynamic had hélène survived and had a redemption arc, but, y’know! as it is, i have a million thoughts about them and their roles in each other’s lives and in relation to the story

hélène/dolokhov: notoriously not my thing :/ spectacular showing of comphet on all sides. i am still firmly of the belief that the affair was blown out of proportion and it was like... a dumb little crush and marital boredom on hélène’s part and dolokhov being a bastard man

hélène/boris: my favorite of the “canon” hélène relationships. i LOVE the tragedy of it, of feeling like they could’ve had a chance had they hadn’t respectively been raised the way they were. they could’ve been such a power couple too but nope! they’re always going to be too busy wanting something More to love each other and isn’t that so sad

hélène/marya dmitrievna: if i never have to see content for this ship again it’d still be too much, sorry :/ sometimes it’s not sexual tension, sometimes it’s just two women with a 30 year age gap who genuinely do not like each other. another thing to blame dave malloy for

hélène/vera: now for a ship that i made up in my head >:) genuinely i think they would have a wonderful dynamic. enough in common for them to be able to bond, enough different to make it interesting. both of them suffer from a criminal lack of understanding from others and i think they could fix that for the other

nikolai/dolokhov: I’M NGL I LIKE THIS ONE... i haven’t given it much thought since i’m not all that invested in either of them as characters but i definitely see it and also gives such an edge to the gambling scene... fellas is it gay to supposedly be fighting over a girl but channeling it through high stakes gambling and looking into each others eyes

marya/natasha: i really came around to this one! i didn’t see the appeal before but man i definitely get it now! again, not super strong opinions since i’m not as invested in either of them, but! it’s definitely cute and makes sense. and why did natasha settle for pierre after andrei’s death when marya was literally right there
