white field, virgin snow
Fandom: Star Wars Characters: Obi-Wan, Rikkae Akkogg (OC), Titaavu Trunch (OC) Word Count: 1.5k
Summary: Obi-Wan had enough of the mistreatment he got from Master Qui-Gon; a year and half is too long. Obi-Wan remembers a promise that was made to him years ago: if he needed refuge, go to Little Keldabe.
Posted on Ao3 | Dividers 1 & 2
14-year-old Obi-Wan walked into Little Keldabe, still in his Jedi robes. Every vendor, bounty hunter, and normal warrior tracked him the entire time.
Once in the heart of Little Keldabe, Obi-Wan knelt down, sitting on his knees. He kept his head down in respect but secretly in fear.
A circle of Mandalorians formed around him, some ready with their weapons, others just watched.
The former Padawan took a deep breath.
"I was told I could come here for asylum. Free of charge."
A Mandalorian stepped forward, "who told you that, jetii."
It was said like an insult. Not with the soft respect she had used for him.
"Urla Luxun," said Obi-Wan.
He stared ahead, thinking back to their meeting years ago; "she told me... She told me 'Haat, ijaa, haa'it'"
A different Mandalorian broke from the circle coming toward him; she crouched in front of the boy.
Obi-Wan kept his eyes averted from her helmet. He could see her armor was painted dark green, tan, and cyan.
"Is that so, vaar'ika?" Her dulcet voice prompted for him.
Even with all the people in beskar, the Force felt warm, safe. Obi-Wan knew this was the choice to make.
A lump built in his throat; all he could do to answer her was nod.
"And what do you plan to get out of it? Seeking safety from your enemy?"
Obi-Wan was wide-eyed at the accusation; his head shot up to look at her, putting his teary blue eyes on display for everyone to see.
He heard a faint gasp from the woman.
The teen's lip quivered as he tried to talk, "I- I don't- I just-"
His shoulders shook as he silently cried.
"I just want to feel safe." He finally got out. It was said barely above a whisper.
The Mandalorian ripped her helmet off, revealing an adult female Pantoran; her eyes were gold with little bits of black, and her short plum hair was messy.
Another Mandalorian sat next to the Pantoran, taking off their helmet for Obi-Wan to come face to face with an adult male Miraluka, his colorful headband with beautiful embroidery. The man's bright armor of magenta, black, and cyan stood out against his tan skin.
The woman took her glove off to cup Obi-Wan's face, wiping his tears.
The Force sang with every swipe of her thumb.
"Can I adopt you?" She asked with a smooth bluntness to it.
The Force sang louder.
The man elbowed her, causing her to roll her eyes and correct her question.
"Sorry, WE adopt you."
It was said more as a statement this time, but at this point, the Force sang so loud it was like an orchestra.
Obi-Wan gave an airy laugh, and nodded.
"Please," he begged.
She knocked her head into his, and held him in place by the back of his neck.
"Ni kyr'tayl gai sa'ad" was spoken with such conviction and loud for everyone to hear, there was no argument that could be made to change her mind.
The Force stopped singing. The song had ended, but the feeling of this being the right choice never left.
The circle of Mandalorians broke out into cheer, celebrating the adoption.
Obi-Wan flung himself into her arms, crying tears of joy instead of sorrow.
She wrapped him tight in her arms, and laughed.
"I never got your name!"
The man chimed in, "We never told our own, cyar'ika."
Obi-Wan pulled himself out of the woman's hold.
"Obi-Wan Kenobi," He introduced, holding out his hand.
The woman grinned.
"Rikkae Akkogg." She grabbed his forearm.
Obi-Wan yelped as he was dragged into the man's arms. The man rested his head on top of the boy's.
"Titaavu Trunch, ner dar'jetii."
It was later that Obi-Wan found out Rikkae and Titaavu were a couple. Eight years of marriage, ten years they've been together.
They shared their stories with him, about different hunts, jobs, and even simple adventures in cooking and hobbies.
Obi-Wan was nervous to share his own from his year and half as a Padawan. Instead he told of the pranks he pulled with Quin as younglings.
The stories were welcomed and got laughter to fill the room.
As it got later into the night, the celebration of his adoption still continued on. Obi-Wan couldn't wrap his head around such big festivities for him.
He knew Mandalorians cared for children, biological or adopted, he didn't think it meant this. He didn't hate it, but it would take some getting used to.
The couple, were they his parents now? He liked the thought, but didn't know what to do about it. His thoughts were becoming sluggish with sleep.
"Come on, ad'ika." Titaavu's low voice cut through Obi-Wan's thoughts.
"Mhm."
Gently, Titaavu led the boy to the housing zone in Little Keldabe, with Rikkae following behind.
A few times the boy stumbled only to be caught and steadied by one of his parents.
Once at the couple's apartment, Obi-Wan woke up enough to see his surroundings.
There were breathtaking tapestries covering the walls, weapons laid on a workbench, and a decent kitchen, dining, and living space. Two short hallways on the right and left side of the apartment; four doors on the right side, three on the left.
Rikkae followed his line of sight. "Right side, master and two guest bedrooms, plus hallway bathroom. Left leads to the karyai, armory, and storage for goods."
Obi-Wan nodded, not understanding what a 'karyai' was.
Rikkae smiled.
"Karyai is the main living room for a traditional Mandalorian house, or in this case, apartment; it's one big chamber for eating, talking, and sleeping."
Titaavu chimed in, "and the last secure stronghold when under attack."
Rikkae nodded her head to the living room.
"Go sit down, or explore, while we change out of our armor."
Sleepy Obi-Wan hummed in acknowledgement.
The couple walked into the armory, chuckling at the boy.
Obi-Wan slowly moved around the apartment. Making his way to the couch, he stopped in front of the left hallway. Without a second thought, he headed down to the door at the end; the Force softly hummed as he got closer.
Opening the door, he was greeted to a medium sized room; in the center was a pit filled with cushions, pillows, and soft blankets. It reminded Obi-Wan of the dog piles the Young would do, and even before that, when he was still in the crèche.
Just as Obi-Wan was about to crawl into the pit, Rikkae yelled out "AH! AH!"
The boy froze.
"Sorry cyar'ika, didn't want you getting in before changing clothes and brushing your teeth." Rikkae explained with a gentle smile.
Obi-Wan bashfully hung his head.
"Come on, ner ad."
She took Obi-Wan to the guest bathroom and handed him a new toothbrush.
"Now, do you want to wear mine or Tita's clothes to sleep in?"
The boy owlishly blinked, caused her to chuckle.
"Come tell me once you're done. I'll be at the workbench; Tita's in the armory."
With that, she left, leaving Obi-Wan to finally turn and face his reflection, the Padawan braid still there, along with the dark circles he got from the war, which only grew darker with time.
Frantically, he searched for scissors or a blade; he couldn't keep looking at that blasted braid any longer. Finding small scissors, he cut a little past the rest of his hair length.
He was 100% free of the Order now. The only other thing he could do was burn the robes, though they are nice to keep if needed later. He'll tackle that problem when he gets there.
Now to brush his teeth and then sleep.
When he was done and exited the bathroom, he saw Rikkae right were she said she'd be. He pushed in the Force to find Titaavu in the armory.
Obi-Wan walked up to Rikkae, her back to him. He went to her side, tugging lightly on her sleeve to get her attention.
When she looked him in the eyes, he told her, "yours."
Rikkae nodded and went to the master bedroom. Returning, she handed Obi-Wan a soft long sleeve shirt and pants for him to wear.
After he went to the bathroom to change, he headed straight for the karyai; he ignored Titaavu leaving the armory.
Obi-Wan face planted right into the nest of pillows, letting out a large sigh. Rikkae, who was already in the nest, hummed at the boy. She then ran her fingers through his hair; the missing Padawan braid was more noticeable now.
"Gar cin vhetin," Rikkae spoke softly.
Obi-Wan mumbled as he turned to face her.
"Sorry. I said, you're a clean slate or fresh start," she continued waving her hand through his hair, "its meaning is deeper than that, but we can talk about that in the morning."
Titaavu came into the nest on the other side of Obi-Wan. The couple caged him in; people he only met today, and yet he had never felt safer.
In hushed tones, the couple spoke above the boy's head.
"Everything good?"
"Elek, locked and secure."
"Jate. We'll get the papers started tomorrow."
"We don't need to be thinking right now, cyar'ika. It's time for rest, look at how peaceful our ad'ika is."
Rikkae sighed.
"Alright, jate'ca."
"Jate'ca."
The Force sang a low melody, as the new family drifted off to sleep.
A fresh start.
A new beginning.
One the Force sang in hope for a bright future.

happy 4th anniversary to Rikka!
October 20th is Rikka’s anniversary. Because he is one of my favorite vtubers, I thought I could share some trivia about him here!
Holostars official site:
A "high-tech" robot called a holoroid. It turns out that his memory capacity is only 2 GB, so he is a bit of an airhead. The gap between his soft talking voice and singing voice is quite charming. He is working hard to share his songs around the world.
Rikka is known for his singing skills. He currently has 6 original songs and 34 covers.
He also does many acoustic singing streams while playing his guitar.
(I recommend this stream)
Like what the stars website says, he has a capacity of 2gb, which can result in 2gb moments happening on stream
youtube
Even though he can be an airhead sometimes, he is also very skilled at gaming, especially platfomers. Alongside playing previously platformers such as hollow knight, Celeste, super Mario 3D world, he occasionally streams Mario maker every now and then, and plays levels with a less than 1% clear rate.
Besides platform games, he is holostar’s Tetris player and sometimes streams Tetris 99. He also plays a lot of horror games. You might have also seen him play Apex. His highest rank is masters and he occasionally shows up in other vtuber’s Apex streams to play with them. He mains Loba.
Currently, he is into street fighter 6 and mains Luke. He just recently got master rank.
Since his 3rd year in holostars, he has published 3 new original songs, ranked 2nd place in Shibuya Hal’s Apex tournament vsaikyo season 5, ranked 1st in Apex Matsuri, participated in street fighter tournament Reject Fight Night, sung for 10 cover songs, became a voice actor for a character in a multimedia project, debuted in the unit Unplan with Miyabi, Aruran, and Shien which also has an original song sung by the four of them, and just recently hosted a vtuber singing tournament ( vtuber singing king, also co hosted with Suisei).
Make sure to send him a congratulations on his tweet, and check out his anniversary stream today ( or tomorrow depending on where you live). Let’s look forward to what he has planned in his 4th year, and something is already coming up, which is a holostars street fighter tournament in November hosted by him.
Thanks for reading

Do you have a favourite YGO archetype in terms of design and or gameplay?
if we're talking design as in card art i could go over so many examples like aromages solfachord darklord dinorphia ghostrick rikka weather-painter subterror exorsister zoodiac zefra evil-twin nekroz and even some single one off archetypeless cards like apollousa underworld-goddess ip:masquerina some choice spirit monsters etc so many cards have very good designs to them due to the fact that them being static trading cards lets artists go off and i love the recent trend that we're actually getting the concept art for a good chunk of these monsters with the more recent archetypes like the albaz storyline and other set releases
theres genuinely so much thought put into the design philosophy and artwork of these cards and i really wish more people would take note but then again it is kinda hard too bc its only recently that konami is actually releasing the concept art for these esp when they aren't like anime famous cards
in terms of gameplay im waaay into pend magicians bc they're just so fun pendulum unironically revitalized the game back when they dropped in 2014 and ever since links released we got the Really Bad 1 turn combo spam into unbreakable board decks that most people associate with ygo today. that said much of casual play for it unironically is Not That, those types of combo spam vids you'll see are from pro players who get lucky hands (ygo is heavily balanced around drawing cards and having hand advantage, makes you wonder why they banned pot of greed when no one knows what it does) and more often than not cards that make decks too consistent (where a deck can create a board state you want no matter what hand you draw) with their plays are heavily nerfed with banlists and rulings (the reason zoodiacs were banned was bc their gimmick of xyz summoning into eachother made the deck too consistent so they banned the key cards that let it happen). that said i also heavily enjoy gimmick decks more than consistent decks, aromage-rikka is a favorite hombrew of mine bc plant support is kind of busted, i also like subterror bc theyre like the only good flip monster deck. i hate stall decks but more specifically stuff like exodia decks bc the match is just "opponent activates 20 cards to try and draw exodia and then nothing happens" and like its not fun for anyone, control decks are better bc they are slower paced dueling like stall but theres actual player interaction and not just "ill activate as many stall cards as possible". overall if theres anyone who'd actually be interested in playing ygo and properly learning the rulings and stuff i would recommend master duel since its a recent release entirely f2p and teaches you very easily all the rules and slowly gears you into playing the game

RexCoatl main cast!
So I have decided to talk a bit about some of the more important characters in this lil ship's story! This is part 1!
(Don't expect multiverse stuff tho...)
Rex
One of the three last masters of humanity. Mexican-American that was born and raised in Kansas, with no prior experience to magecraft in any form before. Learned of it from his ancestor "gramps" an ancient magus from the age of gods, who gave Rex his Crest and the catalyst to summon Quetz and sent him off to chaldea. Currently Rex is married to Quetzalcoatl.
Quetzalcoatl
Quetzalcoatl is the mesoamerican goddess of wind, storms, earthquakes, culture, art, war, the sun and so on. Quetz is a big sis figure whose looked out for humanity for as long as possible. She rides on a Mesozoic dragon familiar, the Quetzalcoatlus, a giant plane sized pterosaur. Quetz is currently married to master Rex.
Rikko
One of the other masters of humanity. Very boisterous and bombastic, with an askicking attitude, comparable to a shounen character.
Rikka
Third master of humanity, and twin sister to Rikko. Has a cheerful but more down to earth personality compared to her brother. But still has a "never give up" kinda attitude!
Mash
Demiservant and dependable Kouhai! The masters' sworn shield and one of their best allies. Is currently in a relationship with one of the twins, tho which one is a mystery...
Jeanne Alter
Corrupt version of Jeanne d'arc, created by blue beard with the power of a grail. Since then she's become her own person and is actually a strong supporter of Rex and Quetz's relationship! Tho she shows it in her own subtle ways. Was actually the maid of honor for Quetz on her wedding day.
Gorgon
Infamous Greek monster who could turn you to stone with her eyes. A surprisingly good friend of the two. But of course she'd never admit it. Has repeatedly helped the couple through tough times but in her own unique ways. Has very rarely shown genuine care for the two.
Ishtar
Mesopotamian goddess of love and war, also another good friend of the couple. Has surprisingly good battle synergy with Quetz and has lent support to Rex repeatedly when she thinks he could use it. Always says they owe her for the help but never actually asks for them to return the favor.
BB
Other more chaotic Kouhai for the group. Is a good ally for chaldea but does it in her own messy and chaotic ways, to the point she's sometimes thought to be an enemy.

Mini-Review: Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!
I’m so glad @littlestartopaz recommended this to me, because it was SO GOOD.
Yuta wants to start high school afresh: new school far from home, new classmates who don’t know he spent middle school acting out the fantasy of being the mysterious and magic “Dark Flame Master,” new him. But one of his classmates has delusions of her own, and after she accidentally discovers his embarrassing past, Yuta is unwillingly drawn into her life and a growing circle of friends with their own quirks.
The “chunibyo” of the title basically means “8th grade syndrome;” a phase in middle school where some kids inhabit and act out their own fantasy stories, positing themselves as dark magicians, magical girls, and other wielders of magical powers.
I had avoided this for a while, until it was specifically recommended to me, because honestly, it sounds embarrassing, right? It sounds like it’s gonna be an embarrassing manic pixie dream girl scenario. But what it actually contains is the story of how a mixed bag of students--some actively chunibyo, others not--become friends and develop very endearing close relationships, while arguing and frustrating each other because that’s what friends do.
Now, the idea of being the star of what’s essentially your own fantasy-action anime is embarrassing, but what’s notable is that the show doesn’t really hold the chunibyo characters up for mockery. Sure we might laugh at them, but hey--it’s funny to watch friends be silly together. And most viewers, just like some of the characters who have moved on from their chunibyo phases, probably easily understand the mix of soul-wrenching embarrassment and (mild?) fond sentiment that comes with remembering our middle school selves.
But let’s be real: the reactions the two former chunibyo students, Yuta and Shinka have to being reminded of middle school, are #RELATABLE
Rikka, our title chunibyo, in particular uses her fantasy in part to cope with grief, coming from an extended family that (without getting spoilery) didn’t help a young girl to deal with a very hard and life-changing time. Now that she’s in high school, her older sister blackmails Yuta (using an a voice recording of one of his chunibyo speeches) into helping deal with Rikka and things (like the cat she wants to adopt) that pop up.
One thing the show is very good at, though, is not making a single thing the reason behind a character’s chunibyo. One may have started their fantasy inspired by another person, or prompted by an event, but it’s also (while active) part of their personal narrative that influences how they spent their free time, how they see the world and keep blogs or diaries, etc.
But at the same time, they’re still teenagers, and their inner view of themselves...doesn’t always translate skills.
I said the show is primarily about friendship. A lot of that friendship is between Yuta and Rikka, but they accumulate a little group, mainly through Rikka’s attempt to start a magic club. Recruit 1: Kumin, a polite, quiet senpai with no chunibyo history or aspirations.
Kumin starts off seeming like a background character, but by the second season it’s clear she’s not just there for jokes about how she’ll take a nap anywhere. She’s perceptive, and genuinely enjoys watching the others act out their scenarios.
Compared to the other characters who are boisterous in their chunibyo activities (Rikka, Deko, Satone), or vociferously trying not to get drawn in to chunibyo activities (Yuta, Shinka), Kumin is happy to watch and offer encouragement, but she’s also willing to participate if a chunibyo scenario calls for a group.
Incidentally, the show does a really interesting thing where occasionally, we’ll be drawn “inside” the chunibyo world, seeing what Rikka/Deko/whoever see: a fantasy land, big magical weapons, anime-grade magical attacks. Occasionally we’ll also see what this “really” looks like--a couple people running around waving umbrellas at each other--but often we only get the fantasy version. It’s clear that Rikka and co. are legitimately on some level engaging in a shared imagination, and the times when a reluctant character (particularly Yuta or Shinka) willing steps in to the shared illusion are genuinely sweet.
Speaking of, Shinka (aka Morisummer) became one of my favorite characters. Like Yuta, she was chunibyo (”Morisummer the magician”); like Yuta, she chose a high school where she didn’t know anyone expressly so she could reinvent herself as a normal teen. And like Yuta, she’s getting dragged kicking and screaming into chunibyo again.
It would’ve been so easy to make her a bad character. She’s pretty, puts a lot of effort into being popular and likable at school, trying to keep up a good teen girl image, despite being fairly sarcastic at her core. And as loathe as she is to admit it, she likes her friends (even if she won’t admit they’re friends, even if half of them are actively chunibyo, even if she says she’s only hanging around so she can make sure all traces of chunibyo-Morisummer are erased from the internet).
Shinka gets drawn in to the group through Rikka’s apparently only pre-existing friend: Deko, a fellow chunibyo who follows Rikka (or “Eye of the Wicked Lord Shingan”) as her master, and is extremely devoted to the great magician Morisummer. So devoted, in fact, that she has several physical copies of Morisummer’s book containing all her wisdom...aka Shinka-Morisummer’s blog, which Shinka has tried to erase all trace of.
Needless to say, the two don’t seem to get along great.
Deko’s dedication to chunibyo and Morisummer irks Shinka; Shinka’s claim to be Morisummer irks Deko, who refuses to believe the great magician could ever be this sarcastic, mundane girl. Deko’s refusal irks Shinka, bringing out the sarcasm and bluntness Shinka tries to hide from the school at large.
Obviously, they actually become close friends, but heaven help you if you actually say so.
The entire series is an exploration of relationships, and Yuta’s developing closeness with Rikka (hey, we knew it was going to happen) is also sweet. He’s a genuinely likable boy, embarrassed by the vestiges of his former self he sees in Rikka, but often willing to meet her on her level, and both of them also learn/reaffirm the importance of doing things their way, and keeping both of them comfortable, rather than acting a certain way or performing specific acts just because their classmates think their relationship status mandates it.
Speaking of classmates--and I know this is getting long but I CAN’T HELP IT, I LIKED SO MANY ASPECTS OF THIS SERIES--the characters aren’t ridiculed at school. Sure, some people think they’re weird, but there’s no shunning, no arc involving teasing or bullies. Rikka’s often content as a loner, but when she attempts to join in a social circle, she’s welcomed. Shinka’s obsessed with reinventing herself and appearing normal and seems to think that otherwise she’ll be cast out, but multiple characters mention that others at the school notice how she behaves (oddly, on occasion) and there are no social repercussions. Truly nice for a show that has characters spending quite a lot of time in school.
Verdict
English dub? Yes, and it’s got strong performances. Rikka’s voice actor in particular does a fantastic job capturing the difference between chunibyo!Rikka’s confidence and command, and regular!Rikka’s, well, normal awkward teenageness. (Plus, I also found her lower-than animegirl-average voice enjoyable.) (Double plus, I honestly think her English voice is better than her original Japanese voice at showing the difference between her emotions and chunibyo/reality.) Deko’s VA is fantastic showing the enthusiasm of the 9th grader (and what enthusiasm, Deko is like the Energizer Bunny), and Shinka’s VA manages to show her alternating annoyance, cheerfully sweet ideal self, and organizized leader voices.
Visuals: Fine, and I really liked the chunibyo designs for each character’s chunibyo phase. The contrast between chunibyo-vision (giant magic weapons; mysterious lights, fantasy landscapes) and reality (an umbrella or soup ladle; a strip of lights taped to the floor; a local park) was really well done.
Worth watching? Yessss. It’s very manageable--two 12-episode seasons--and while each season contains its own arc (you could stop after the first one, but why), together they make an excellent story. Heck, I think the second season is equal to, if not better than, the first, because the friend group is well-established and even more fun to watch.
Where to watch (USA, as of October 2020): Netflix (dub, sub); Crunchyroll (sub), HIDIVE (sub & dub, plus OVAs and film)

Anime I Watched in Quarantine
With some of the restrictions being lifted, I wanted to make a sort of master post to see just how much I’ve watched in my time off. Plus, I wanted to share something more lighthearted with everyone.
All of these anime will be rated on a 1-10 scale, 10 meaning masterpiece, 1 meaning complete garbage. I’ll also share what I liked/didn’t like about each show. This list will go in chronological order, and will encompass all anime from 3/13 - 6/13. Multiple Seasons will be grouped together.
1. Beastars - 8/10
I dig how human and down-to-earth Beastars is. The pacing was a nice and the animation was unexpectedly great! It’s driving force is its characters and their interactions. Felt a little slow at times, and Juno annoys me, but that’s okay. I’ll be watching season 2.
2. Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun - 8/10
Oh my god! This visuals for this were absolutely wonderful! It did feel a little cliche at times, I won’t lie. But, I still loved all of these characters and the nice balance between creepy and comedy.
3. Ao No Exorcist - 6/10
I posted about this one after I finished it. The ending really pissed me off. I feel like if I had watched this when I was 13, I would’ve given it a higher score. Compared to some of the other shounen I’ve watched, this felt a bit basic. That doesn’t mean I still didn’t like it. Still have to get around to watching season 2...
4. Kaichou wa Maid-sama! 6.5/10
Shoujo usually isn’t my cup of tea. Maid-sama was a nice way to ease into the cliches of shoujo. Misaki is a great protagonist and the ending Maid-sama was so satisfying. I’m only giving it a low score because of its slow pacing and lack of certain character development.
5. Violet Evergarden Gaiden: Eien to Jidou Shuki Ningyou - 7/10
I’m a big Violet Evergarden fan to begin with, so of course I liked this movie. It did not resonate with me as much as the series itself, but I still enjoyed it. Kyoto animation is never disappointing in their visuals and sound design
6. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! - 8/10
Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren - 6.5/10
Chuunibyou was a breath of fresh air for me. It was so different from all other romance anime I had seen at the time. It for sure has a slice of life vibe to it, but it was still so good! It reminded me of being in middle school and my “chuunibyou” phase. The second season was not as enjoyable as the first. I guess I just had higher expectations for Rikka and Yuuta.
7. Dr. Stone - 7/10
Dr. Stone is honestly such a perfect shounen for me. I’m a science nerd, and with taking AP Chem this year it was kind of nice to sorta apply my knowledge. This show also has some of the best reaction images ever. The tone, however, is a little inconsistent which made it hard to keep watching. I do love the relationship between Senku and his Dad, that whole sub-plot was so endearing.
8. Oshiete! Galko-chan - 6/10
This one only gets a low score because its so short and the op takes up like half an episode. This show had been in the back of my mind for a while. I decided to watch it after seeing a video essay discussing it. Its masterful subversion of tropes and stereotypes was refreshing. The message of this show is so positive, and everyone can benefit from watching something like this.
9. Mairimashita Iruma-kun - 5/10
The second half of Mairimashita Iruma-kun was so much better. I’m not completely sure why I didn’t like this as much as I should have. Overall, its a really average show. The comedy (and musical numbers???) give this show and charismatic and chaotic vibe. I’m someone who focuses primarily on character-character interactions, and this show definitely had it. It isn’t monogatari levels of dialogue but it’s still nice. For the studio’s low budget, they were able to make a really bright and colorful show. I’ll be watching season 2.
10. Byousoku 5 Centimeter - 8/10
Very. VERY. Pretty!! This one was another one that didn’t completely resonate with me emotionally. I still loved the story and the way it was told. Its not like Your Name or Tenki no Ko, it’s realistic and grounded.
11. Mob Psycho 100 - 8/10
Mob Psycho 100 II - 9/10
Style alone made Mob Psycho 100 so impressive. By the second half of each season I was emotional invested in Mob and his whole journey. Season 2 is receiving a higher score because it was able to make me cry. That’s something I NEVER expected. I’m mad I didn’t watch this sooner. It is a great balance of action, comedy, and heart.
12. Noragami Aragoto - 8/10
Not sure why I put off Norogami’s second season for so long. I absolutely loved it. The focus on Bishimon was a nice change of pace and it was great to see Yukine develop more as a character and begin to loose his arrogance. Kazuma was my favorite character in all of this. His ability to affect the people around him was presented nicely. I was emotionally invested the whole way through, and I’ll probably pick up the manga.
13. Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji - 3/10
Ah yes. My least favorite thing on planet earth. This is a wonderful example of Shoujo at its worst. Their relationship was incredibly toxic, and the characters themselves were poorly developed and generic. The whole time all I could think was that I was watching normalized Stockholm Syndrome. Our MC deserves so much better.
14. Youjo Senki - 6/10
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting to like Youjo Senki as much as I did. I’m not usually one for iesekai. The action was great, but the use of CGI bogged down scenes. I do NOT really like the protagonist that much because she came across as apathetic. Towards the end, I started to like her more. This was also my first military/warfare-focused anime. If either a movie or second season is made, I will probably not watch it.
15. Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica - 6.5/10
I wanted to like Madoka Magica more than I did. I really did. The style was compelling and the story was interesting. Especially in the beginning, a lot of the death and sad stuff didn’t feel all that sad. The last 4 episodes are a solid 8/10, I love time shenanigans. The emotions and character development really shined through in the end. Madoka is such an inherently kind-hearted person, I love her so much!
16. Yakusoku no Neverland - 8.5/10
I was expecting Yakusoku no Neverland to be more graphic, but I’m kind of glad it didn’t go that route. Like Madoka, the last four episodes had me really invested. However, the character development was not as rushed. It’s a smart show and welcomed change of pace. Emma is my favorite character and you bet I’ll be watching season 2. The more I think about this show, the more I appreciate it.
17. Mo Dao Zu Shi - 9/10
Mo Dao Zu Shi 2nd Season - 8/10
I know that is is technically a donghua, but I’m counting it as an anime because its on MAL. Amazing visuals and an incredibly layered story. Censorship makes it difficult to fully appreciate this work and its original novel. Even though I was confused for the first 2 episodes, Mo Dao Zu Shi did a great job of developing the time period and character relationships. The second season wasn’t as satisfying as the first but still great! I don’t think I’ll be watching the live action anytime soon, but I believe that a 3rd season is confirmed for 2020.
18. Banana Fish - 8.5/10
I knew nothing about Banana Fish going into it. Although I didn’t cry at the ending, it definitely made me feel some type of way. Kind of... numb. Banana Fish is painfully realistic. So much so that I had to take a break after episode 15 because I felt sick to my stomach. I also praise Banana Fish for it’s healthy, non-fetishized relationship representation. Eiji and Ash have such a complex but healthy relationship. I hope Banana Fish is able to pave the way for better representation in media.
19. Promare - 5/10
Why do people praise Promare so much? I hated how predictable it was. The whole movie felt like a 2 hour animation flex for Trigger. The only character in this movie that didn’t manage to piss me off it some way was Lio. The only other thing I’ve seen by studio Trigger is Kill la Kill, so compared to that, this felt like such a step down. :( I was disappointed.
20. Given - 6/10
Given made me both sad and made me want to start a band. Overall the animation is nothing special, I do like the reactions that some of the characters had. Especially that “It’s Mutual” gif set. I couldn’t get over how much Ritsuka looks like Kageyama. My only complaint was how rushed Mafuyu and Ritsuka’s relationship felt. More time should have been dedicated to Mafuyu dealing with and moving past the loss in his life. All that said, I’m still watching the movie.
21. Enen no Shouboutai - 5/10
Generic Shounen, bad ending, great animation. Need I say more? I did not watch Soul Eater (made by same creator), but this was enjoyable. Really cool fights, not so cool character development. A lot of the explanations towards the end felt like complete bull shit. Same energy as using fancy sounding science words to explain things.
22. Hataraku Maou-Sama - 5.5/10
This is another show I felt I would’ve liked more if I watched it when I was younger. The iesekai trope is so beaten down that classics like this don’t really carry as much weight as they originally did. A 24 episode season with more Slice of Life episodes would’ve benefited this series greatly.
23. BNA - 7/10
BNA, in my opinion, was so much better than Promare. Like Hataraku Maou-sama, BNA would’ve benefited from a longer season with more Slice of Life Episodes. Trigger’s newer animation is beautiful and I really hope BNA gets renewed for a second season. The ending was cliche as hell, but still really enjoyed this show!
24. Devilman: Crybaby - 7/10
A.K.A. The one show I’ve got to watch when I know I’m alone. The use of multiple languages besides Japanese in the sub was a unique take. The animation was also a little jarring at first, but I came to love it. The themes in this are not the most positive. The end left me feeling numb, but also appreciative. Ryo pissed me off as soon as he tried to kill that cat, so it was hard to sympathize with him in the very end. It is a really good show, but also sickening, Watch at your own discretion.

This Christmas
After the first Christmas event, the twins and Rex went back to chaldea to be greeted with a huge Christmas party to celebrate their first Christmas at chaldea.
Rex: what the hell...?
Da Vinci: surprised?
Rikko: very surprised.
Rikka: we weren't expecting such an amazing party after we finished having to help Santa Alter.
Roman: well it is our first Christmas here in chaldea and we thought we could celebrate the occasion.
Rex: well that sounds fun but I'm not sure if I have the energy for all this right now
Da Vinci: don't say that, besides there's a certain someone whose been waiting for you specifically
???: Master!
When Rex heard that and he realized who it was he nearly froze up and became reder then a Christmas ornament. It was Quetzalcoatl standing across the room holding two mugs and wearing a Christmas sweater.
Da Vinci: come on Rex, go get her!
As she said this she pushed Rex in the direction of Quetzalcoatl. He went over there more nervous then Orion when Artemis catches him near another woman.
Rex: h-h-hey there Quetz!
Quetz: Hola master!
Rex: whatcha got there?
Quetz: I have two mugs of egg nog, one for you and one for me
Rex: I love egg nog!
After he said that he took the mug and they both sipped some nog
Rex: it's amazing
Quetz: si, I was excited when I heard about it from Boudica.
Rex: it's really nice. Actually I had a Christmas present for you, lemme go ge-
Quetz: wait! Before that, there's something else
Rex: what is it?
Instead of saying her answer Quetz pointed above them, in response Rex looked up and saw that infamous plant. Green leaves and white berries, mistletoe.
Rex: that's mistletoe!
Quetz: si!
Rex: t-that means!
Quetz: si!
Rex: I've never kissed anyone before!
Quetz: neither have I, so this'll be a new experience for the both of us
Rex: I-I-I'm not sure if I'm ready, can't we count down?
Quetz: of course master
Rex: ok, 1 2 3!
After Rex said this the two of them kissed each other for the very first time in their lives. As this was happening, many other party attendees started to cheer them on
WHOO!
WAY TO GO MASTER!
GET IT!
After they had finished their first kiss, the two were filled with such emotion. They were so happy
Rex: that was amazing!
Quetz: si!
Rex: I didn't think kissing could be that good. This is already, probably my best Christmas ever
Quetz: me too, but it's my first christmas too.
Rex: yeah... let me go get your Christmas gift
Quetz: ok, I'll go get yours too
Eventually the two came back together with the gifts. Quetz was holding a small box, Rex help an even smaller box. When Rex opened his gift what was in it was a small statuette of Quetz's feathered serpent. When Quetz opened her gift, inside was a new luchadora mask
Rex: Quetz! A little serpent statue! I love it
Quetz: master! A new lucha mask! I can't believe it!
The two were so happy they didn't notice that they ended up under the mistletoe again.
Da Vinci: hey you two!
Both: hmmm?
Da Vinci: look up!
The both looked up and realized they were under the mistletoe again.
Rex: ...wanna kiss again?
Quetz: I'd love to!
The two locked lips again
A/N: after rereading some of @hasereshdoneanythingwrong 's stories I realized I didn't do RexCoatl's first kiss. So I decided to remedy that. Decided on doing it on Christmas, because I want x-mas to be a special holiday for them.

Favorite quote: "I'm not gay but $20 is $20."
David (Dave)

Color: Red
Height: 5'11"
Personality: David is an dramatic emo theater kid. The way he acts on might assume that he's a *cough* chuunibyou *cough.* Usually he walks around fighting for the dark side doing who-knows-what in the name of avoiding his "troublesome" family. It never works though and underneath the many layers of angst is a sweet boy with the best kind of dark humor.

Favorite quote: “Not scientifically possible!!” - Professor Membrane
Rurik (Ricky)

Color: Orange
Height: 6′0″
Personality: This trickster is always up to no good. If he can’t use words to charm you into giving him what he wants he’ll just steal it from you when you’re not looks. Geo is afraid of a lot of things like toddlers, 3rd graders, small dogs, loud noises, and big cats (tigers, lions, panthers, etc.) Tho despite his weak appearance he’s very flexible, quick, and has a love of choke holds and suplexes. He likes dressing up girly cuz he feels comfortable in cute clothes.
Hobbies: Day dreaming, writing, collecting things he finds cute.
Favorite quotes (Geo was told to pick one quote but he didn't): “Based on how I react when toast pops out of the toaster, I will never look cool walking away from an explosion.” - He forgot.

Love, Chuunibyo and Other Delusions
Remember when (or maybe you are still at this stage. If so, I envy you) everyday you thought that you were something more that human, and your imagination made everyday life an epic adventure? Maybe you were gifted powers by Cosmic Entities or bitten by Something Else. Perhaps you found out you were a child born of Gods and mortals, or the lost scion of a magical dynasty. Appaerntly, there is a name for this stage of pre-high school cosplay:
Chunibyo
Start off first day of high school
with Yuta(plain looking guy up there) hoping to have left his former persona as The Dark Flame Master behind. Enter Rikka (girl with the eyepatch) aka Eye of the Wicked Lord to smash that hope.Throw in a few allies still letting their imaginations run wild, adults and classmates drmanding that they grow up and act normal and we have a story.
Season 1 starts of fun and quirky, then the second half of the season just drops the heavy feels on you when you find out why Rikka refuses to step outside of her chunibyo.
Season 2 actually explains just how all these characters chunibyo are interconnected. More fun daily school life adventures the first half, second half of the yseason is once again angsty shennanigans.
The Movie: Last year in high school for these kids, and one last showdown with the demands to Grow Up.
I like this one. The battles in the kids imaginations are the stuff of way over the top magical anime, while for the outside observer its just kids striking dramatic poses and yelling out wild phrases. There was a point where I wanted to yell at the screen that the only difference between how Rikka was dealing with a situation and the way the adults were dealing with the same problem was the adults rituals had the backing of a major religion. But I think that was the intent of the writers to point that out without saying it.....

Jude Stage 8: With His Feelings in His Heart
* from Asteria’s fourth chapter, “Recollections of Eden”
[<- stage 7]
Scene 1
Leia is impressed by Jude's fighting, and how even though he doesn't remember anything, his body does. Jude wants to stop, but the moment he lets his guard down, Leia attacks.
Leia: I guess that's it, huh... Seems all you remember is what your body knows. You may have forgotten the rest, but my mom's hardcore training can't be erased! Jude: Your mom's training... Leia: It's kind of nostalgic somehow, doing this again... Haah!
She continues to strike at Jude, musing about how they used to spar all the time as kids. Jude moves the same way now as he did then; Leia predicts that after his next move, he'll leave an opening, but Jude dodges her attack. He's even more confused than she is about why he understands what she’s going to do.
Jude: It's as if I've seen it before... in my head... No, but that's... Leia as a kid...? It's the same patterns... Urgh...!?
His vision blurs. Seeing that Jude seems to be remembering something, Leia attacks again, but this time Jude doesn't manage to dodge.
Leia: Huh... In the old days, you would easily have seen through that. Was it all a coincidence after all...? Jude: Have I... faced these attacks before...? Urk...!
Everything spins again. Leia tells him if he still doesn't remember, he should accept his defeat and go back to the village, but he blocks her next attack - and then several more in a row.
Jude: How did I...? I've never seen that attack before, but my body just... Leia: Jude...! Then how about this!?
As Jude's vision swims, he continues to counter, confused about why he knows all Leia's moves. It's like her attack patterns have been etched into his mind, and he reads them perfectly.
Jude: That's right... We've fought like this countless times, ever since we were kids... I understand. I know what you're going to do next... No, I remember... There was that time we were cleaning, and you used that move with the broom... Leia: Jude!? Y-Yeah, that's right! And then we got yelled at for playing with the brooms! Jude: You were always the one to start goofing off. You were always getting scolded... but I was always right there with you, so... Leia: Yeah. You've always looked after me... Jude, you really do remember... Jude: Still, we never learned... Skipping out on our punishments... Sparring sessions... Until we were experts at dodging... Urgh! What is going on...?! We were kids... and Master Sonia... Aaaaah!
Leia: ...Jude? Jude: Right... That's right... But then, what have I been doing...? Leia: Jude, do you... Jude: Hey, Leia. I... Leia: Dropped your guard!
Leia attacks unexpectedly, but Jude dodges again. He remembers everything now, and he shows Leia one of the forms they learned from her mom to prove it.
Jude: We were neighbors when we were kids. Your mom introduced martial arts to us. We sparred like this over and over again... day in and day out, hundreds, maybe thousands of times. Leia: Then you should recognize this! Haah! *Smack smack... bam bam!* Jude: It's nostalgic, doing these moves again... Even though the training was brutal. Leia: Yeah, Mom worked us to the bone every day. We'd end up covered in scrapes and bruises. Jude: But it made us so much stronger...! Leia: I always beat you, though. Jude: Not this time, you won't!
Leia informs him that she hasn't changed her mind just because he's gotten his memories back. She's not really sure what's going on with the world right now, but she knows criminals only cause trouble to others, so she refuses to go back to the village. Jude insists that he's not giving up either; if she has any doubts at all about what she's doing, he'll make sure he doesn't lose.
He continues to block all her attacks. Leia starts to think that maybe he's right and she does have doubts - but that's all the more reason for her to win and convince herself of her decision. Jude recognizes the stance she takes right before using Soulstoke Celebration. He can hardly move afterwards, but he refuses to lose, and Leia is stunned that he gets back up. He hits her with one final attack.
Jude: ...I'm sorry, Leia. I can't afford to pull any punches against you... Leia: Jude... I'm so glad you've remembered...
Leia falls to the ground, unconscious. As Jude is preparing to take her back to the village, one of the guards wakes up and tries to threaten him, but he can't move. Jude tells him to rest for a while. The other guard informs Jude that he's a fugitive now, and promises that the White Lions will find them if they try to escape.
Jude: ...Right, that is a problem. Leia had them thoroughly fooled, after all. Guard 2: What...? Jude: Pretending to be a criminal herself, in order to lure out the real criminal... Everyone thought we were accomplices, when she was just using herself as bait and getting captured by the White Lions to lure me in. I'm gonna need a new strategy to get myself out of this! Guard 2: So that's what happened... I thought something was off. This was all the Rolando Family's plan, then... Jude: Yep. But it's not going to work. I'll have to retreat. And I'm taking Leia as a hostage, so I can get my revenge later. Guard 1: Stop...! I can't let you do that, even to a criminal... Wait, no, she's not a criminal, is she...? Guard 2: She's assisted us greatly... We have to help her! Dammit... I can't... get up...!
Jude makes his exit before the guards can get back on their feet.
Scene 2
Back in Rikka Village, things are a little tense. Jude doesn't expect Leia to forgive him, as he knows what he did was contrary to what Leia had decided for herself, but he still feels it was the right thing to do. Even so, Ludger thinks they're probably going to put a warrant out for him now.
Magilou seems to find it funny, though Leia doesn't think it's any laughing matter. She asks what Jude plans to do next. Jude also expects he'll be on the wanted list by the next morning, so he intends to leave before then. He wants to look for everyone - Milla, Elize, even Sorey and Stahn might be in the same predicament that they were. He doesn't know what he'll do if they've lost their memories too, but he has to go see.
Leia points out that if they're living peaceful lives, they might be happier to be left alone. Jude agrees that since they don't know what's going on right now, they'll have to be careful about how they approach the matter.
He's thinking of heading to Reisvale first. That's where Mikleo is supposed to be from, and Rowen was with him. The first thing he wants to ascertain is whether they've lost their memories, or are just playing along.
Now that she thinks about it, Leia finds their "roles" a little strange, with Mikleo a nobleman and Estelle her subordinate.
Jude: Yeah, really. But everyone here accepts that as perfectly normal... Leia: No one would believe us if we suddenly started saying Estelle is a princess... even though we remember it clear as day. Jude: Right. We probably shouldn't mention it. I want everyone to get their memories back, but it could be dangerous to go about it the wrong way.
Ludger hesitantly interrupts to ask if Jude has become a criminal like Leia. He doesn't understand what happened, or why Jude brought Leia back. If this was a case of one criminal setting another free, he has a duty to report them. Alarmed, Jude reminds him that the "criminals" are just people who've regained their memories, but Ludger can't be sure that's true; all he knows is they've been talking about crazy things no one else understands. He apologizes, because he knows they're both good people and he wants to believe them, but if it comes to choosing between Lazarus and the claims of wanted fugitives, the choice is clear.
Jude suggests that there might be a way for Ludger to confirm that the memory bit is real. He remembers Ludger from before he lost his memories - that Ludger used to live with Elle, and his older brother Julius, and a cat named Rollo. Ludger thinks, but none of it sounds familiar to him, and he's concerned Jude is lying. Leia reminds Jude that he was the same way; it seems words alone won't make people remember.
Jude wonders if there's some action, then, that would jog a person's memory, like what happened to him. Then he remembers Ludger saying he feels like he's made some promise to cook for someone, and tells him it probably was something he said to Elle. Maybe Elle feels the same way. Ludger also once said he gets a funny feeling when he looks at families together - that would be because deep down, he remembers living with Elle and Julius.
Ludger still isn't sure, but Jude pleads with him to just trust him for now. Elle should be in Reisvale, which is where he's going anyway, so Ludger should come and see for himself. If at that point he still wants to turn Jude in, it won't be too late; Jude promises he won't run or hide. Ludger knows turning the criminals in to the White Lions is the right thing to do, but he gets the sense he might regret it if he does that, so he agrees to come. However, he's not saying he believes Jude and Leia yet, and if he meets with Elle and can't confirm anything, he will report them both. Jude accepts that deal.
Then Ludger asks Magilou if she'll agree not to report them for now. Magilou agrees surprisingly easily, since it seems they can prove or disprove Jude's claims readily enough. Leia asks what she knows about it, and Magilou admits that she's been investigating the criminals herself.
Magilou: There must be some hidden meaning to the "nonsense" the criminals talk about, right? Something we civilians don't know. So I thought, if I checked out these restricted zones... Leia: You were in the restricted zone?! So that stuff about a trespasser... Magilou: And what's a wanted criminal going to do, report me? Leia: Ugh... Don't remind me. Magilou: But that's exactly the problem! That the Rolando Family's leader should turn out to be a criminal herself... I joined thinking that if this is an organization worthy of Roar's attention, maybe I could get some information on the restricted zones or the criminals... But if the leader is a lawbreaker, the whole ship is sunk. All that effort, totally wasted! ...But thanks to Jude's quick thinking, the fact that Leia is now a criminal is our little secret, yeah?
In conclusion, Magilou has no problem protecting Leia if there's some benefit to it. They can always report Jude later. For now, she'd rather they all cooperate in her little investigation.
Leia is fine with that, but Ludger wants to know why she's looking into the criminals in the first place. Magilou's reasoning is simple: Lazarus doesn't want civilians interacting with these people. If she can figure out where they're coming from and why they're appearing, and come up with some preventative measures, there might be a sizable reward.
Ludger: If you're trying to please Lady Lazarus, doesn't it kind of defeat the purpose to break her laws and sneak into the restricted zone? Magilou: You gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette, right? We can only do this if we play by our own rules.
Jude wonders what would drive Magilou to do that, and Magilou admits that the Menagerie's last performance was a total flop. She has a debt that's going to be very difficult to repay, hence her interest in receiving a reward. Ludger sympathizes.
Magilou: Don't get me wrong now, I'm not saying I'm on your side. But if that's what it takes to keep observing you, I'll keep your little secret. Jude: Well, that's good enough. We'll need your cooperation for Leia to go back to the Family. Leia: ...H-Hey, Jude. What if instead of going back, I go with-
At that moment the door bursts open and Estelle and Suzu rush in, having heard that Leia is back.
Suzu: Jude, why didn't you tell us right away!? Jude: S-Sorry... Magilou: Because they're too busy sharing secrets they don't want you to hear... Jude: Magilou, don't tell them that! Estelle: We figured something was going on. If you say it's a secret, we won't force you to tell us. But Leia, please, don't shut us out and leave again! Leia: I-I'm sorry, you guys. But I think I'm going to be leaving again anyway... Jude: Leia... Sorry, but you can't come with us. Leia: What!? Why!? Jude: Because I saw what happened to Estelle and Suzu when they read your letter. You're an indispensable part of the Rolando Family, and this village. Estelle: He's right. If it's ever too much of a burden on you, I can always help out more. But we need you as our leader, Leia. Suzu: I agree. Leia: You guys, too? You really think...? Both: Of course!
Leia promises not to run off again, but Suzu picks up on the fact that she’s speaking only for herself. Leia explains that Jude has something to take care of, so he and Ludger are going on a little trip. She asks Jude about Meredy and the others, and he assures her he'll let her know as soon as possible if anything happens.
Suzu: In that case, how about we lend you a sylphjay? Jude: Sylphjay...? Like, the bird? Suzu: We use them as messenger birds. They make it easy to get in touch with distant people quickly. Ludger: Distant people... That's right, I need to let the dining hall know I'll be gone a while longer... Jude: Can I send a message, too? I should let them know I won't be there to deliver the milk... Suzu: Then let's do it now.
Jude and Ludger write their letters, and Suzu sends the bird off, telling them it should be in Carmina by morning. They're trained, so they can fly all night.
With that arranged, Jude and Ludger prepare to set out, though Estelle is surprised they're leaving so soon. Before they leave, Jude asks Leia about the father they had in custody, but Leia tells him not to worry about it.
Suzu: ...What are you talking about? Jude: Oh, uh, it's nothing. I'll leave it to you, Leia. Ludger: Let's go, Jude. Jude: Right. First stop, Reisvale.

Thought for the night, brought on by rikkamaru’s question about Lander classes:
It’s known that Landers have less detailed profiles. In S1 episode 10, it is seen when some are seen bowing down to the Eastal League’s procession into Akiba; the only thing that shows up for their status screen is the fact that they’re a Lander, and an HP gauge.
Which leads me to wonder two things: 1) Why is it that some Landers have detailed statuses while others do not, and 2) How exactly do “unique” classes work?
In regards to the Ten Seats’ Lander members having detailed status screens, I dug up some while ago from Mamare’s notes that Plant Hwyaden developed the “Menu Cheat” to add or change features in the game menu, though it can’t add features that no longer exist like the mini-map. This could go to explain why their members have detailed menus.
However, even then, Rudy and Elias were depicted with detailed statuses and they aren’t associated with PH at all. Originally, it could be argued that Rudy’s was made up in the anime to throw people off from the reveal (of course, it could still be that reason), but then it should also be noted that we never get a look at Rayneshia or Li Gan’s profiles.
This might indicate that Landers who train to a certain level of combat proficiency will be able to acquire detailed status screens with special UI to match. (Li Gan admits to being proficient enough in combat magic to be able to take on Lander knights, but as it is neither his specialty nor interest, his class is a rather passive Lore Master with no known unique icon.)
We see that Mizufa (Warlord), Elias (Blademancer), and Jered Gan (Archmage) have unique icons and colors for their classes. What’s more, their icons take elements from existing classes’: Mizufa’s uses the shield from Guardian, Elias’ uses the Sorcerer’s staff, and Jered’s uses a variation of the Enchanter’s eye. While Mizufa’s UI color is blue, which is not used in any other class’ color scheme, Elias’ is in line with both the Warrior and Mage classes. Jered’s, however, is interesting -- despite using the Enchanter’s eye, the color scheme is purple, closer to the Healer classes’ colors rather than the dark green of the Mage classes.
It seems that they have an “evolved” version of the Adventurer classes, so to speak. Classes that go beyond the rigid lines of the “god-given” presets that Adventurers have to adhere to. Given how I mentioned in rikka’s ask that Landers need to actually train to acquire their classes, it’s possible that they are capable of “creating” new class-combinations that can eventually be “accepted” by the world laws as a valid Lander class.
Given that the four Landers we know of with traditional Adventurer classes are all relatively young, it’s possible that given time, they too could “obtain” unique classes. It’s comparable to the Overskills/Mysteries that the Adventurers develop, just a tad more unknowns since up to this point, it’s been indicated that Landers don’t wholly have free thought (re: unable to discover real flavor or develop more than 42 songs).
Assuming this is true, though, this may further explain why the Genius gunned for the Ancients first: the more experienced, powerful ones among them probably had unique classes like Elias’ and thus had more unknowns for them to deal with. Sealing them away would narrow the scope of their trouble to Adventurers, who have a fixed set of classes and skills to work with. Which is, then, logically why Overskills are crucial to defeating them.

One Piece Birthdays: Honorable Mentions
One Piece has hundreds of characters, and over the past year I’ve celebrated the birthdays of only about a few hundred or so of them. So I’d like to take the time to mention every One Piece character without a birthday. Some don’t have birthdays because they’ve debuted too recently, some have no birthdays because they have been forgotten. Some have no birthdays because we haven’t gotten to that yet, even though they’ve existed for a long time and we remember them. To start off with, I will mention every character that exists within the canon that have names. Some you’ll remember. Some you won’t recognize, but if I showed you a picture of them you’d be like “Oh yeah that guy”. And then some of them you won’t have any recollection of, and I can’t blame you for it. Today, we will honor your memories, and hope that one day, Eiichiro Oda gives you a birthday.

I used the names that they are given on the wiki, as opposed to their Official English names, if they even have one. I did this so that you can simply search their names on the One Piece Wiki and learn about them, if any interest you. However, a couple of them are so obscure that they don’t even have their own pages, in which case you will only be able to fine them here.
Next we will honor all non-canon characters. These characters appeared in filler, movies, specials, OVAs, one-shots, video games, or any other material that was officially made but not part of the manga. These characters are gaurunteed to never get a birthday, and that is a curse they bear. Now some non-canon characters, such as Gion and Tokikake, debut in non-canon and then later appear in canon, making them canon characters, and thus giving them a chance to have a birthday. However, this is such a rare case, that I wouldn’t count on it, especially for non-canon characters that debuted years ago.

Lastly, I want to honor all characters, canon and non-canon, with no names. The majority of these characters are just extras that only appeared in one panel or shot. But there’s a couple that are actually memorable, such as that one guy that was in Spandine’s group, or the masked CP-0 members. Some of these people can actually get names eventually. For example, Don Quixote Mjosgard was a nameless character for the longest time, until in the Reverie he became important and was given a name. I cannot list these nameless characters, as they have no names, but I do still want to honor them, and hope that one day they will be given names and have birthdays.

Final Thoughts: An Autopsy

I did it. I survived 31 days of horror media. 31 horror films and 1 binge of a tv show later, it's finally over.
Honestly, it was difficult to keep up the momentum. There were several times where I thought I was going to break the chain, that I wasn't going to slam out some reviews before the stroke of midnight, only to find that the compulsion of inspiration kept me going. This was as much for you, my audience, as it was for me.
If you live anywhere east of my native PST timezone (or if you're one of the few who have been following these reviews on my Tumblr blog, where a few of these were posted after midnight because my Facebook audience is my primary audience), then you may not have realized just how close some of these came to not coming out on time.
You may also not realize that - with the exception of Hill House, which I binged from October 1st - October 8th so I could review it on the 9th (we watched The Covenant that evening, which was by design because I did NOT want to review that flick) - I was actually watching these films the same evening that I was writing and posting the reviews. Some of these were LONG, and if I didn't hit play early enough in the evening, then there was trouble. Crimson Peak was the one that cut it the closest - that one hit my Facebook page at 11:58 PM on October 17th, and WAY after midnight on Tumblr. A few of them cut it similarly close, but oh god, I was really scared that THAT was going to be the end of me.
And that's the thing - I told myself that any one of these that landed on Facebook after midnight would be the last one for the month. As asinine as that may seem, there were two primary reasons for this:
1. I wanted to hold myself accountable to a deadline. If I failed to hit that deadline, then I was off the project, simple as that.
2. I wanted an out in case things became too much. It would have been really easy to write a review and just let it sit in my phone until after midnight, and then resign myself to not completing this thing.
Still, we're not in the timeline where that happened. I succeeded. WE succeeded. We're finally out of the woods.
I did attempt this last year, but Rikka and I had to move right as things were getting going, so the reviews were sporadic and didn't have any sense of cohesion. This time, I tried to keep similar films together the best that I could, even if the order didn't always make sense. I'll post a photo of the "master list" in the comments so that you guys can see how many iterations this thing went through.
Will I do this again next year? I'm not sure. It may not seem like it, but this took up a LOT of time and energy. I'd like to have some sort of Halloween tradition like this, but I don't know if I'm going all-in like this again. If I do, I won't keep my reviews limited to just movies. Horror is my favorite genre in all entertainment media, and there are whole worlds of horror I'd like to discuss that exist outside the realm of cinema. This would also allow Rikka and me to not have to devote every evening to a horror film, which is a small victory.
That's not even to mention that my favorite thing to review was The Haunting of Hill House on October 9th. Out of everything I watched over the course of October, that was the only thing that really got under my skin and made me check the dark of my bedroom or turn on my phone's flashlight to make sure nothing was staring at me. That show is honestly my favorite piece of horror media, and I invite all of you to watch it and read the novel. They're both fantastic. There's a reason that Hill House is the longest review and the one that I put the most effort into.
I did learn a lot about the horror genre and my relationship with it throughout the course of the month. I learned what works, what scares me, what scares others, and what's not scary. I learned that the most effective way to scare someone is to make them feel like the stakes endanger their loved ones - thanks, Hill House! I learned that what's scary isn't necessarily what you see, but rather what you don't see. There's a lot of power in leaving an entity or a monster to the imagination. A scary sound, a horrified expression on someone's face, a panicked description of something, perhaps a brief glimpse at part of what's invoking that pants-shitting, and you have a much more effective scare than any jump scare or creature design could illicit.
Lastly, I have some thanks. I want to start by thanking Aubrey, Jeff, and Jossie, who had to endure my endless prattling about this project on a near-daily basis and still provided great moral support. It's finally over, my friends, you don't have to hear about it again. I want to thank Rikka, who so graciously allowed me to monopolize our living room TV every evening and even sat through most of these with me. And, finally, I want to thank each and every one of you who read and reacted or responded to even a single review. You made this worth it.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take some time away from the things that go bump in the night. As I keep stating, Horror is my favorite genre, so I won't be away for long, but I need some time to myself. And who knows? You may see a review from me sooner than you think, even if it's not of a movie.
Until then, my faithful friends, Clairewell.
