optimization journey: glue 10000+ arrays together for each data channel -> reduce number of array glueing required by doing 32 sequences at once -> NO array glueing at all!
#tütensuppe#the previous problem i complained about happened bc you cant trick python into skipping for loop iterations#so when you do for i in range(100) and then i+=5 it wont eat it#what i got stuck on was the second flips. im calculating microseconds but the timestamps are not on the full second#so every 32 runs you have a second flip within the 500 data point run#but! you know what you can do!!#calculate the number of total datapoints. first timestamp+total*timestep gets you the final array value.#then do linspace over ALL those values. array%1000000. tada!! all the microseconds#including accurate time flips!#its not running yet though bc i mathed wrong somewhere#but once i fix that i bet its gonna be sooo fast

so I, personally, am a huge fan of the Telemachian war rubble. incredible imagery? cool obstacle for our heroes? literal wall of corpses both protecting the heart of human civilization from those who wish to extinguish it and holding it captive to those who wish to exploit it? come on, what more do you want from a set piece?
just, like. a coating of rubble around an entire planet, y'know. that's too much rubble, isn't it? like, planets are really big. just kinda a flashy bit of writers' excess. it's gotta take a stupid, unrealistic number of ships to make a coating of rubble like that happen, right?
Right?
QUESTION ONE: How big is this planet?
Surely, in sci-fi world, the answer to this question is limitless, right? Far be it for me to impinge upon the boundless creativity of the sci-fi writer. That being said, as the local rubble-estimator, I do need to put some bounds on this thing. And the thing is, human bodies do very poorly outside of earth-gravity in the long-term. in the interest of not ruining the musculoskeletal system of every human in the not-so-distant future, we're going to assume that Telemachus has +/- 10% of Earth gravity. And, in the interest of not ruining my own evening, we're assuming that it also has the same density as earth, so the math is straightforward and we can actually answer the question we've set out to answer here. That being said, welcome to Telemachus!
it, uh, doesn't look like much yet, but I promise we will be answering some interesting questions here in the space. well, they're interesting to me, at least. I had fun. And that's what matters!
QUESTION 2: Where is the rubble?
Answer: not in the atmosphere, because the atmosphere would grab the rubble with its grubby little fingers and drag it planetside. The rubble layer must be sitting in the thermosphere, which is where the International Space Station lives. In the thermosphere, there's insufficient atmospheric pressure for anyone to hear you scream, and that is good enough for rubble to continue orbiting the planet indefinitely!
So, where is the thermosphere?
UHHHHHHHH
Okay so, good news. We already know where this is on earth. It's 85km above the surface. And looking through the variables, the only things that aren't constants for our purposes are local gravity (locked and loaded, baby), change in height (that's what we're looking for), and... uh......
Great news! Everything is a constant except for the two things we already have, everybody can breathe super normal air with a molar mass of 0.0289644 kg/mol and super normal barometric pressure on the surface just like on Earth, isn't terraforming fun? And that means we can play my favorite math trick, which is where we throw all of our constants out the window and just form a relational equation with our variables and with g0*dH0=g1*dH1 we are off to the races! Turns out, atmospheric physics is super easy when you just use the earth baseline and scale it by local gravity.
QUESTION 3: How thick is the rubble?
*cracks knuckles*
In S02E03 Deep Breath, the gang traverses the rubble layer surrounding Telemachus in order to evade a government checkpoint where their identity cards will surely fail them. The audio cue for the first flecks of rubble hitting the shields starts at 18:00; the audio cue for the Iris II hitting the atmosphere is at 20:30, which means that if we knew the Iris II's velocity, we would know the rubble thickness. Such a shame there's no way to know how fast they were moving...
Well, except that the landing sequence directly follows (it takes 50 seconds to reach the ground), and there is a limit to how quickly Krejjh is able to decelerate (a sustained 4-5 gs will knock a layperson unconscious, and Violet and Brian both stay conscious to our knowledge) (actually I suspect Brian passed out) (this is besides the point), and we just calculated exactly how far they traveled to reach the ground...
Oh, yeah, baby. It's all coming together.
It is at this juncture that I should mention that in this calculation, I am completely ignoring any movement that is not normal to the planet's surface, which is to say, straight up and down. I do not care if Krejjh is flying in a beautiful arcing spiral, if they are drawing a middle finger in midair, or if they plummet like a bird falling from the sky. This is a wonderful feature of vector math which I love. I only care about the thickness of the rubble layer, and the only acceleration that is important is the vertical component (a human can withstand like, 20-30 gs to the chest if they wear their seatbelt). Therefore, the other velocity components do not matter.
So, the Iris II entered the atmosphere at a speed of...
a flaming 1,100-1,300 mph, assuming that Krejjh decelerated at a moderate 3gs! Assuming that this is the maximum speed they achieve, I went ahead and halved this for their average speed through the debris field, which gives us a field over a hundred kilometers thick! Hell ye- wait, is that ten quintillion cubic meters of rubble layer???
QUESTION 4: How dense is dense?
I'm not going to lie to you, friends. This is where this gets ugly. We're going to do statistics. It will be okay.
How much of that volume is empty air?
The field of war rubble is described to us as dense. But that is not what makes it near-impregnable. If there is the physical space to pick your way through a static field of rubble, anybody could do that. What is dangerous, is that the rubble is orbiting, wrapped and writhing around the choking planet in a deadly Gordian knot. (I fucking love the Telemachus war rubble. Have I said how much I love the Telemachus war rubble?)
Now, if we pay close attention to the audio of Krejjh piloting through the rubble, we can hear large chunks of rubble zip past with a signature pitch-shift. This is the doppler effect causing sound (which doesn't travel in a vacuum but I'll forgive that) to be higher pitched as the rubble moves towards us and lower pitched as it moves away. Using these pitches, we can estimate the speed of the rubble--
yeah, okay, or we can just use the super simple stable orbital velocity equation that we already have all of the numbers for. if we were feeling lame.
So, imagine you're crossing the street at a brisk jog and a car is approaching at like 40mph from around a blind corner and also the street is hundreds of lanes with hundreds of cars whipping around a blind corner and also you are a ship that is parked across like ten lanes at a time. But hey, you can do a cool kick flip. So there's that, at least.
How many cars actually need to be on the road before it's "too dense" to traverse?
Luckily, there is a highly accurate, well-tested simulation we can consult.
The entire rubble field can be conceptualized as a series of orbital "lanes", containing a certain spacing of pieces of rubble, which cumulatively defines the density of the entire field. There exists a spacing by which it is possible, but difficult to get through. For example, in the image above, if there are 3 car tiles per 14 tile lane, the density of the entire street is 21%.
This spacing determines the frequency at which rubble crosses in front of the ship, on average. So, we're going to have to do some statistics. If you know how to do statistics, feel free to come at me, because I am pretty sure I did this stupid.
Alright, here's the game plan: we are going to define a space in front of the Iris II, designated as the Reaction Space, and we are going to designate a desired frequency of Reaction Events in that space. This is super arbitrary and has a huge impact on the final number! No pressure. So, let's give Krejjh one and a half seconds to react to the debris in front of the ship. If you've ever had a dog run in front of your car, this is scary as shit -- but hey, nobody said crossing the Telemachian rubble field was easy, and the ship did get hit a couple of times. Knowing the speed of the Iris, this gives us a physical distance in front of the ship which rubble may cross. Multiply that by the height of the ship- let's say 10 meters, there don't seem to be multiple floors- and we have bounded a certain number of orbital lanes through which the Iris is imminently about to cross. We'll call the average piece of rubble 5 by 5 meters, and therefore an orbital lane is about 25 square meters of space.
Each orbital lane represents an opportunity for a Reaction Event, which is to say one or more pieces of rubble entering the flight path of the Iris II, forcing Krejjh to maneuver to an open space (see Frogger above). Because statistics is an exercise in twisting your brain in circles like squeezing a wet wash cloth, in order to define how frequently Reaction Events occur, we must instead define how often they do not occur. The Reaction Space must be empty a certain amount of the time, or else there is literally nowhere to maneuver to- the space is literally impermeable. So, consulting the more difficult levels of Frogger, we are going to say the Reaction Space is empty 50% of the time. This means that every 1.5 seconds, there is a 50% chance that Krejjh has to pull some pants-shitting evasive maneuvers. This strikes me as acceptably challenging.
Now, each orbital lane does not have a 50% chance of spitting out a piece of rubble; rather, each lane has a very small chance of spitting out a piece of rubble and cumulatively, across hundreds of lanes, there is a 50% chance of one or more of them spitting out a piece of rubble within the selected timeframe. 50% = x raised to the number of orbital lanes, so a little bit of exponent math and we find that each lane has a 99.9% chance of being empty during a given second and a half.
Given a probability for an event over a certain time period, we are now able to calculate the return period of a given piece of rubble, which is to say, the average amount of time between events. Return periods are typically used to measure the probability of 100-year storms on a given year. Fun fact: There is a 37% chance that no 100-year storms will occur during a 100-year period, but there is also a 26% chance that there are 2 or more 100-year storms that occur over a 100-year period. Isn't statistics fun?
Using the average timing between pieces of rubble, we can determine the average spacing between pieces of rubble and therefore determine the density of the rubble field.
QUESTION 5: How many ships is that?
Alright, then. Here's the million dollar question: how many ships were destroyed to create the rubble field?
We will base this estimate off of the biggest modern fighter jet I could find with a 2-minute google search (I cannot overstate to you, dear reader, how little I care about fighter jets), so we're basing these ships off of the SU-35. Now, given that I have zero interest in caressing the delicate curvature of the Fighter Jet in the hopes of earning its trust and learning its True Volume, I'm going to estimate it as a cylinder with a diameter equivalent to the SU-35's height and assume the wings probably fit crammed up in the space there somehow. This gives us a volume of 587m^3, which makes the number of ships perpetually encircling Telemachus.......
Now, listen. This is an unrealistic number of ships. I do not believe that 70 billion people were killed in a single battle.
However.
When I set out on this estimate, I was willing to believe that 5 or so billion were. Between casualties on both sides, maybe a space station or two being destroyed, who knows, maybe they had a space trebuchet? This is only an order of magnitude away from a potentially reasonable number.
QUESTION 6: How Far Can I Stretch These Numbers?
Let's massage these numbers a bit and see what we can do.
First, let's round up the ship volume just a bit-- they're in space, maybe the FTL engine needs a bit of extra room. Let's call it 650m^3.
Then, we can start fiddling with the rubble frequency. Let's say the Iris II is 15 meters tall (it is a space yacht. maybe the ceilings are tall?) and then crank the reaction space up to 2 seconds (which means rubble can pass up to 2 seconds away, but it is still able to be anywhere nearer). And let's say the average piece of rubble is 4 meters across, not 5. Turn the the event frequency down to a 40% chance every 3 seconds, we can get this thing down to around 7 billion ships.
So, in conclusion: the Telemachus space debris ring is officially potentially reasonable! 🎉🎉🎉
Always remember, kids: number fudging is a proud, time-honored tradition when I do it, and a disgusting twisting of the nature of truth itself when anyone I don't like does it.

how i manifested the greatest academic comeback
tldr: nerd starts tweaking over the possibility of failing a class and starts trying to manifest it away. it worked
alright guys it’s the end of the grading period and let me say, i CLUTCHED 💪🏽💪🏽
so for my grades, 3 weeks ago my geometry grade was a 28. NOW BEFORE YOU JUDGE, lemmie explain how it got that way ☺️
last december i got into a car accident and injured my right shoulder. bcs of that i’ve had procedures done and physical therapy every tuesday and thursday (sometimes friday). so i always leave school in the middle of my geometry class to make it to my appointments.
i can’t skip phys therapy bcs there’s a whole legal case and all that stuff (i’ll tell that story once everything is settled 🤫) but basically if i skip too many times, then it can be used against me legally so i literally gotta go.
anyways considering i always leave early in geometry, my grade was COOKED bcs i was missing dols (demonstration of learning, basically a 5 question quiz where you answer questions pertaining to what we learned) and i missed a test.
i was real stressed out bcs i’m an honor roll student. like the only time ive ever gotten a failing grade was freshman year in PE. if that doesn’t show the extent of my nerdiness idk what will. and y’all, i genuinely could not live in a world where i failed MATH, that would have been my 13th reason on top of everything else going on rn.
so because of that, i used my little trick (affirming and persisting) in order to fix my grade. i affirmed that i would not fail, and i wouldn’t get anything less than an 80 on my report card. i’ve also been using that distraction method with the void and stuff.
fast forward to about 3 weeks of trying to fix my grade and make everything up, i was still sitting at a 68 (around 3-4 days ago). at that point i had started saying that i would have around a 70 if i made everything up. i was literally calculating what i had to get on the next 2 grading cycles and final in order to have an 80 for the semester.
then, out of nowhere, my teacher put in some random assignments that i had done and a binder check, with a high weight on the grade since it was categorized as a test. for the binder check and random assignments i got 100%. i also had a quiz yesterday that i got an 83 on, which was also a test grade.
so my 68 turned into an 85. i was content with having an 85 but i still had a few dols to make up so i stayed afterschool today and finished them.
now i have a 90🎉🎉🎉 i’m so happy, id like to thank my peers on this beautiful app for showing me my true potential and myself for being open minded and willing to explore. guys i swear, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PERSIST AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. if your conscious mind and 3d starts telling you differently from your desires, correct it. you write your story, not anything else. towards the end i was losing hope of my gpa being so high but my constant work in writing my story and has led me to be great
once again😄

If The Core Division Three Members Had Gaming Channels...
Kafka Hibino {A.K.A ComfyManGaming}: Mainly Shop Management Sims or just Sims in general. His most popular series and the one that let him go full time as a content creator was his Power Wash sim Story Time where he got to talk about the craziest things that happened to him in his, like, six different cleaning jobs. ( In order; Landscaper, personal maid service, High rise window washer [tied for origin for most of his craziest stories], Nuclear Power Plant Office janitor, Failed attempt at running his own power wash service, and School Janitor with a car detail side job. {Most recent/longest held job/and also tied for craziest story origin generator with Car Detail Horror stories being second). Can be convinced to play atmospheric games like Journey/Abzu/Fire Watch/Anything thought provoking or emotional.
Reno Ihchikawa{A.K.A IchyChill Breakdowns}: Whatever Windette does, but with less insults. Basically Build Breakdowns and Speedrun Tutorials. Carried with the energy of a tired Indian Math teacher trying to teach calculus to 8th graders. Is also [technically] a PNG tuber, but because he's low energy, the PNG doesn't move much.
Iharu Haruichi {A.K.A SharkBAIT}: Two Channels. One is a horror game channel, Both Indi and Triple A. The other is anything casual, but mainly sticks to Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, Coral Island, that sort of thing. Fans like to call the Horror one Anxiety and the non-horror one Anti-Anxiety(Each have their own mascots and like to fight each other like Jacksepticeye and Antisepticeye). He has absolutely accidentally cross posted horror vids onto the non horror channel and vice-versa. The community like to pretend that they don't interact with the other channels and when that sort of thing happens, they pretend they've been exposed to horrors beyond comprehension. (yes, even when the horror channel gets a cutesy vid)
Mina Ashiro{ A.K.A Can(n)onGodess/Pr3ttyW1ttl3K1tty}: Also Two channels, but actively makes sure that no one knows she runs both. One is a live stream of FPS set up as no-commentary/with camera (Mainly colorful ones like Valorant). The other is also no commentary with NO camera and its Sim 3 or 4 tips-and-tricks and Minecraft Aesthetic House Build (Mod and No Mod.)
Kikrou Shinomya:{A.K.A Can_It_Doom?} A STEM major that couldn't find a use for her degree as fast as she liked, so she started a Can it Run Doom? channel as a joke, and now it's evolved into a channel where people recommend different setups like Drumset Controler on a Texas TI-84 Graphing Calculator. (Is also currently in the middle of working on a live action Tank Setup for World of Tanks as a subscriber goal.)
Hoshina Soshiro{A.K.A SwordSingerSUPREME} Any game that involves sword fighting and critiques it either Accurately or HARSHLY. Also streams his HEMA training/tournaments. It's very popular (because everyone find him hot) and has since become a bit of an eclectic channel that is split between his Gaming vids, his HEMA vids, and P.O Box unboxing vids where people send him A LOT of gifts. There's also an over an hour video of him playing Let's Hit Each Other With Fake Swords the Card Game with his older brother (who is also in HEMA.) that he made when the channel hit 5 million subscribers.
✨Bonus✨
Gen Narumi{A.K.A xXGenNarumi420Xx}: Plays anything that's currently trending, but his bread and butter is FPS or Run and Guns. (Has confessed to saying "Would" to the Ultrakill Robot.)
Okonogi Konomi{A.K.A BlossomBear}: Indi VTuber that plays exclusively Indi Puzzle games or Puzzle Platformers. Isn't a singing VTuber so much as one that can and will go in-depth on programming and what goes into a VTube model (She made hers and it has two forms : a chibi, curly white haired, anthro bear girl and a white plushi version with orange blossom motifs.) Can and has demonstrated to be an absolute GOD at Minesweeper
Minase{A.K.A MinAction}: A anime/movie/Western Animation reaction channel. Has an uncanny habit of predicting things before they should be obvious.
Hakua{A.K.A HakuaKooksXP} A cooking channel whose shtick is 1000 Ways To Prepare [Insert Food Here.]. She's still currently working her way through rice.
Haruichi Izumo {Goes by his name} Various product review channel.
Aoi Kaguragi {Also goes by his name} A very well made workout channel.

Headcanons for the Mitchell-Bradshaw kids (+ friends & family) because I can | Top Gun AU ✈️
Summary: What happens when you live with 4 little ducklings? Unforgettable memories!
Pairing: Bradley Bradshaw & Jenny Mitchell
Characters included/mentioned: Dane Bradshaw, Austin Mitchell, Maverick, Slider, Iceman, Carole and etc
Note: Fluffy/ Top Gun Headcanon fic
~~
1) Bradley and Austin used to volunteer at an Animal Shelter, full of puppies and full grown dogs if all breeds. One day, Slider’s kids wanted to adopt another dog but couldn’t since they already had 4 already so in result, they called Iceman to help them out and so in result he adopted the doggie.
But there was a catch, the Yorkie made so much more barking than expected and had so much darling energy, so Iceman had no choice but to call him—Maverick!! Let’s just say the real Maverick wasn’t the happiest person after hearing that and the kids laughed so loudly at his reaction
2) Speaking of dogs, Austin Mitchell may or may not have brought home in an panic a week later. Jenny was sending text messages on her laptop when he rushed in yelling, “Don’t tell Dad!”
She was confused and looked up, “What did you do?”
“I want you to know that I love you VERY much and you’re always welcome in my room for the bigger closest room.”
“Aussy, what happened? Did you break his motorcycle again?”
“No and for the 10th time that was Dane!”
He hoped the door for a puppy to walk in as his sister’s jaw dropped to the floor, hugging the fur ball to tackle her. He laughed at the moment and whistles as two more dogs came in grinning brightly.
“Sooo? What do we think?” He asked with a matching grin as the dogs, carrying the puppy.
“We ain’t NEVER telling Dad!” She repiled with a little giggle falling in love with the dogs.
—
3) As a kid, Dane really in awe of Ice's ability to flip pens like it was nothing and wants to be his student to learn the trick, begging for him to teach him one day after school. His mom brought him a small pack of pens and pencils to practice with for flipping tricks, eventually he gets the hang of it where he showcasing his tricks in class.
He thanked his Uncle Ice later on for showing him the trick, calling him cooler than Maverick jokingly and laughed running off to show his friends his new tricks
4) Speaking of Dane, is maths kid in school. History was never his strong suit but surprisingly, numbers came much more naturally to him. It resulted in the type of career he would have in the future.
His brother and siblings knew this fact very well, being able to be crafty where he can calculate prices of analysis for planes. As well as when needed he can calculate, like the the tax and measurement when it comes to paying for a restaurant bill.
It would surprise his mother as she would ask, “Not bad, sweetie. How did you do that so fast?”
In result he would hold up the pen and napkin he used to do the math then reply, “I counted.”
—
5) When it comes to certain things, Jenny is terrible at keeping secrets and wants to gossip, so she can be a little nosy at times (she gets better at it with age). Ice and her dad like to say, she got from their Aunt Carole, since Sunset was most likely the one to be hush hush about certain subjects.
When she was 5, and Bradley was 7, she knew he had a silly little crush on the babysitter cause she was so nice. So she told her auntie Carole who stayed gushing with her all about it, teasing her son about it
When she was 10, she heard all about uncle Slider becoming Commander after watching the adults talk about it and went running to her daddy to spill the news giggling with excitement. It was supposed to be a secret for a few short days but she couldn’t help herself.
When she was 16, she found out that Dane and Austin had a crush on the same girl or so she thought. She squeals so loudly, knowing that she would have to be quiet about it or else. Bradley even gave her an odd look.
But Jenny had other plans as she sneaked up on her brother and asked, “Sooo who’s the girl?”
“What girl? There is no girl!” Austin exclaimed playing video games on the computer.
“Oh my god it’s the senior!”
“How did y-no! I am not into a senior.”
“But I saw you talking about some girl name ‘Avery’…”
That’s when her brother snorted, “No, Avery Thompson is the senior leader of the drama club. I’m into Avery Rodriguez, he’s on the basketball team.”
Her eyes widen and gasps, “HIM?! Damn, you got good taste!”
—
6) Jenny had a small crush on Bradley when they were kids, jokingly saying ‘You are my boyfriend.’ when she was 7 but let it go a while later. Especially since fictional boys existed on Tv duh! However, Bradley thought girls had cooties and said, ‘Gross!’
As early high school rolled around, Jenny was watching Disney Channel movies and texting her friends as she watched the boys play guitar and drums in the center of the garage. Austin, Dane and Bradley were jamming out in their band laughing and singing covers.
Tracy and Rachel, Jenny’s friends, walked into the garage jamming out to the songs as she greeted her with a hug. They were chatting and gossiping about the latest movies, along with newest episodes of Gossip Girl.
“Can you believe Blair said that to Serena?! That was uncalled for!” Tracy exclaimed as they sat on the bench, sipping water bottles.
“I know right?! But Serena had a point though.” Jenny yelled, chuckling.
“Blair was better.” Rachel added for a debating measure, “But I love Serena too.”
Bradley was tuning his guitar but paused to look at the girls with a loopy smile, stuck in a mini trance.
That’s when Austin threw an empty water bottle at his head and yelled, “Dude! Stop staring that’s my sister.”
Dane laughed at his brother’s face, waving at Tracy, Rachel and Jenny who giggled. Bradley just glared at Austin as he stuck out his tongue muttering a few things.

i'm trying to get over my deep embarrassment about being So Bad At Math and let myself accept it and work on it and really think about it again—
which is hard! because every time i even bring up my struggles and/or the idea of having dyscalculia i get shut down like "no you're too smart, you can do math, you're just anxious, you're just overthinking it"
... yeah, i can do math, but i do it slowly and by shortcuts and memorization and being good with calculators and by redoing everything five times as fast as i can to catch the inevitable stupid mistakes. i can do math like the average dyslexic person can read.
i'm a cashier and i can't count people's change back to them using that subtraction(?) trick. i mess up too often.
i'm overthinking it because i keep having to relearn significant parts of multiplication and division every year or two.
—and, uh, anyway, and now that i'm thinking about it again after getting back into therapy and all that. working actively on self-acceptance. it just hit me that the number i have the most trouble with is 1.
like of course i didn't want to admit that. one. one! can you even explain to me what one is? probably not! it's too obvious! it's intuitive, right?
well. not for me.
1 is actually a very abstract number. when you're looking at stuff in the real world—counting beans, slicing pies, whatever—you're actually arbitrarily grouping billions of atoms and molecules into a "single" object. you're one person, but you're also trillions of cells.
i do fine with the real world, but not so well with abstract quantities. my intuition is concrete. in the real world you can't multiply things. that would violate the conservation of mass. you just move things around (or compare them to each other). and practically speaking you're always moving around lumps of stuff and an atom or a crumb here or there doesn't matter. 100 vs 99 is not a big deal. 1 vs 2 is. (sometimes i get very upset about fractions.)
i can't hold the idea of "one" as a pure quantity in my mind very well. i think of everything as a set. (i was very happy to encounter set theory in middle school. genuinely ecstatic.) i have to visualize 1 as something tangible, give it a shape. a dot. a circle. a square. the problem is, 1 is really small. either i'm picturing it as something big enough to have other stuff in it—too big—or as basically an empty set, which ends up resulting in a lot of errors because i treat it like 0.
i can think it more easily in binary sometimes—explicitly distinguishing between 1 and 0!—but that means a lot of repetition which i can't keep track of well enough for regular arithmetic. the repetition is worse for my working memory.
idk, it's late and i'm rambling. it's just. this is a disability i have. it's on my mind because i've been struggling really badly with time management and today i really realized that a big part of that is because time management involves constantly doing math. i get to see my little arithmetic mistakes add up to cascading problems in real time.
what's a little 1 misplaced here or there? whoops, that 1 was an hour. 15 minutes is basically the same as 20. oh but 20 is about the same as 30. is there really a big difference between half an hour and an hour? well, i have 60 whole minutes, might as well waste 5. 45 minutes is almost an hour.
15 minutes late is "you no-call no-showed your appointment." 10 minutes late is "your timecard is looking bad. you're on your first warning, after your third one you're getting fired." 5 minutes late is a "tardy," and i've never had a clean attendance record.
it's past 3 a.m. i need to get up at 11. will i get 8 hours of sleep?
do i ever?
this is not a very kind world in which to struggle with simple math.

PhD Blog Week 15
First week back after christmas, pretty sure I've forgotten everything. Spent the week before we returned doing the CFT assignment, horrible, but at least it's finished now.
Courses
Solitons: important for my research but not a topic I love. Spent the first hour recapping the wave equation and then the next hour looking at nonlinear PDEs, its shaping up to be like all other DE courses where it's just a list of tricks and transformations to get a vaguely manageable equation, maybe things will turn around when we get to actual solitons, which have nicer algebraic properties
Rep theory: Defined a representation, proved Schur's lemma, went way to fast, finished a 2 hour lecture in an hour and a half, hand cramped from writing too much
Hopf algebras: covered the required category theory in a way that was supremely unhelpful, lecturer just read off the pdf of the course notes, probably how the rest of the course will be lectured as well, but at least the material is interesting
Supervisor Meeting
Failed to do a calculation on the board, forgot most of what I was learning, rough first meeting back, I blame CFT for taking all of my time before the meeting
Teaching
Starts next week, but we got our tutorial assignments this week. I'm doing one first year maths tutorial and dynamical systems, which means I have to learn dynamical systems. It should tie in well with solitons though, and the tutorials are every other week which will be nice
Talks
Integrable systems seminar, looks like there will be regular seminars this semester! Some of them will be internal though, so I may have to talk, which is a bit scary. The seminar this week was good, it was about an addition to quantum groups where you introduce a boundary and allow the particles to bounce off it giving you an addition to the Young Baxter equation. I followed most of it until he started presenting results and the equations got really ugly, it did use ribbon diagrams for some things which was fun, I've never had reason to go beyond string diagrams before

headcanon on some genshin characters and how they do math. mostly on the men. under read more bcs it got long.
kaeya
can do quick math in his head on the fly. knows some tricks to use his hands to help count to keep track with bigger numbers. give him paper and pen and he can do impressive calculations super fast
diluc
slower with counting than kaeya but better with big numbers. can do rough estimates quickly but needs to write things down to make sure things are accurate.
jean
somehow manages to have the bros' skills combined. good at estimates, can do quick math in her head, big numbers are no problem. they all disappear when she's out of coffee.
zhongli
math whomst. he can make money appear in his hands, he doesn't need math. it gets worse since childe starts footing his bills. he can do math but he won't be happy about it.
childe
god of math. he's an overachiever who thinks that since he's basically posing as a banker in liyue, he HAS to be a good banker, which means he has to be better at math. already good at math to begin with but now he can do big numbers in his head no problem. who needs pen and paper if you have your noggin
keqing
can probably do math in her sleep if she wants to. probably already does that in her dreams tbh.
alhaitham
smart as fuck. cannot do math to save his life. there's a reason why he goes into haravatat. he can grasp concepts but can't do numbers.
kaveh
another god of math. he needs to be accurate with numbers because of his job. king of decimals. somehow his math abilities goes up in smoke when money is involved
collei
hilariously, better at math than she is at her other studies. other forest rangers in training are jealous. "counting is easier than spelling bcs you just keep adding." sure jan.
xingqiu
math whomst, i got lots of mora, i don't need to count.
chongyun
the one doing math for xingqiu
xiangling
can't do math, unless cooking or food is involved. "xiangling what's two plus two?" idk. "xiangling we want to make 77 servings of almond tofu, how many liters of milk do we need" miraculously comes up with the correct answer in 2 seconds
yun jin
can do simple math but is in no way an expert at it. can count the number of her audience accurately in just a glance somehow
kamisato siblings
both are decent at math, but they turn to thoma when it comes to accurate calculation on big numbers. dude's not in childe's levels but he's still calculator on legs
yoimiya
multiplication is easy! somehow, subtraction elude her.
itto
what's math?? that's what shinobu is for!!
kuki
has to be good at math bcs itto is too big of a himbo to realize what addition even is. bless him but pray for her sanity.
layla
has math anxiety. akademiya leaves its marks in different ways in everyone.
furina
can memorize entire scripts in 10 seconds flat. needs calculator to check 1+1
neuvilette
math on legs. he judges he counts he subtracts. we stan a king
lyney
decent at math but lynette has to check his work bcs she's more meticulous
wriothesley
wasn't the best at math but picks it up when he became the warden. sigewinne tutored him and is very very proud of his progress
sigewinne
typically can't be bothered but she does need to calculate meds doses
navia
asks his subordinates to check her work. they usually end up doing the math themselves. save my queen she's good in many things but not math
clorinde
girl's decent at math. she can do her taxes no problem and that's enough for her.
sethos
probably the one who does the accounting for his tribe tbh he has that vibes

task 12: secrets seven

read more to learn seven secrets about tiana powell!
Secret 1: While most of Tiana’s circle has figured it out already, Tiana prefers not to talk about this: her dream restaurant will celebrate the lives of Black heroes from American history, such as Rosa Parks and George Washington Carver. The reason behind her secrecy is that her ideas have been stolen in the past; a high school classmate copied Tiana’s final project in a literature class, and now Tiana takes care not to openly describe her creative work until it is complete. Tiana’s coworkers have already uncovered this secret, however. Tiana swore them to secrecy immediately.
Secret 2: When Tiana was fourteen years old, she illegally drove a car from her neighbor’s house to her own house. She did very well, for her age. After her mother arrived home from the store, Tiana lied and said that the neighbor girl, who was almost eighteen, had driven her and run back to her house for dinner. (This did not explain why the neighbor had supposedly left her own car behind.) The truth was that Tiana had been thinking about possible emergencies that could force her to drive a car prematurely, and she only wanted to know that she could do it. These days, Tiana chalks up the incident to teenaged impulsivity, but she would never tell her mother that she did it.
Secret 3: Tiana has a secret recipe for chocolate chip cookies that uses both white and brown sugar. This is not an uncommon way to make chocolate chip cookies, so Tiana wouldn’t mind if people knew this secret. After all, the real trick lies in combining the ingredients gently enough to make the cookies softer. (Most would-be bakers go a little too fast at this stage.)
Secret 4: Only Tiana’s mother and her friend Charlotte know that Tiana went by the nickname Ti-Ti for an entire summer in high school. She and Charlotte spent part of that summer at camp, where everyone seemed to have a nickname, and Tiana pretended that she had always gone by Ti-Ti. The appeal wore off on the first day back at school that autumn, when the principal gave a speech about “behaving more adult-like.” Tiana will blush if this nickname is ever brought up again.
Secret 5: Only Charlotte remembers when Tiana’s first car broke down outside the La Bouffs’ mansion. Tiana doesn’t swear, but she did that day. Profusely. Some truly terrible insults were born from Tiana’s rage toward her failing car.
Secret 6: Although Tiana deeply loves her mother, she can’t bring herself to relate to her mother any feelings she’s had about boys. She knows that some mother-daughter duos talk about boys all the time. But for whatever reason, Tiana feels best when she keeps romantic thoughts private. One boy in particular, who took sixteen-year-old Tiana to the homecoming dance, did make Tiana feel special, but she implied to her mother that he only seemed nice to her. Another boy, who won her heart at culinary school, was also described to her mother as “nice enough.” Maybe when she settles down with her future husband, Tiana will finally admit to her mother that she feels something.
Secret 7: Tiana will never, ever touch a calculator. She abhors math. For a person so keen on building a business, math is not just essential, it’s life or death. But Tiana’s mind struggles to hold onto numbers the way it holds onto quantities in the kitchen. In high school, only intense concentration and memorization helped Tiana make it through her math classes. Now, she plans to hire a reliable accountant to handle the growth of her future restaurant. If only graphs and percentages made as much sense as filling up half a cup of water, or adjusting a recipe for more people.

Left Me Begging to the Birds for a Bone or an Offering
Chapter 9
AO3 link ~ https://archiveofourown.org/works/44541196/chapters/123186934
word count ~ 3920
18+ only!
~ months later ~
She was a brunette with pretty, blue eyes and far more popular than he was. It was why he didn’t understand the first time she asked him to help her study. He legitimately thought it was a prank, and was so apprehensive beforehand that he almost didn’t meet her in the library like he had agreed to do the day before.
The two of them had attended the same pretentious preparatory academy for two years, and for most of those two years the most Alexsandr could do was give a shy smile if she looked his way. She was friends with pretty much everyone she met, he was not.
She was everything he wanted to be but nothing that he felt he deserved.
Even the school’s notoriously stiff faculty would always openly beam at her pleasant disposition and consistently high marks with a kind of praise they showed no one else.
Yet, he held the highest of scores and no one gave a single damn.
That was why he thought it was a trick. He just knew that some of their notoriously cruel classmates were lurking in the shadows as they waited for him to humiliate himself for all to see.
It was common knowledge that she would openly and gladly admonish anyone that she caught as a bully, but still, his doubt remained.
It wasn’t a ploy; in fact, she had shown up early and was waiting for him when he got there with a sweet smile and warm greeting.
“You’re late,” she joked.
Kallus was actually early so that he could do a quick sweep of the entire floor before he made his way to their study room. Much to his surprise, only a handful of people occupied seats throughout the large, open floor.
“Sorry,” he stuttered as his nervousness flushed hot and fast across his face. As a feeble attempt at a deterrent, he clumsily dropped his bag to the floor so that he could quickly duck and pretend to pick it up so that she couldn’t see the embarrassment he felt. It had been more than obvious, and so he stayed hidden under the table for as long as he could before his absence became more awkward than his actions.
“So,” she started from above him, “it appears that I’m having a hard time with this pesky math.”
“Oh,” he said before he looked over to see her face leaned down under the table with a giant, knowing grin framed by dark hair that fell messily around her face. In that instant he realized just how pretty she really was. Flawless was an understatement when she was seen roaming the halls of the school and dormitories, but out of her element, as a real person, she was so much more than mere ‘perfection’.
“I happen to really like math, so hopefully I can be of some assistance,” he said as he sat up and put his textbook and calculator in front of him with a long, quiet breath that was meant to relax him.
It did not.
What he had told her was true, he really did like mathematics; so much so, that he actually wanted to be an engineer.
”You’ve got my name. You’ll go into the military like me and my father and his,” was the end of that dream.
“I don’t know, it’s pretty rough over here,” she said seriously as she pulled out her own notes and book. “I’m more of a computer hardware nerd but apparently there’s math in that too,” she scoffed to herself. “Never needed it before though,” he heard her say under her breath.
Kallus barely heard her as he looked in almost terror at the chaos that was her ‘notes’.
“What the hell!” she exclaimed and pulled him from his fright as she reached over and grabbed his notebook from his hands.
Her soft touch excited every one of his nerves instantly and lingered delicately on his skin long after.
“Wow,” she slapped the book down in front of her. “Are these notes or blueprints to a high security military facility?” she joked as her fingers grazed over the color coded and perfectly organized information.
For a brief moment he imagined her fingers grazing lightly over him but quickly he shook the thought from his mind before he said something stupid, “organization is a key to control. If I know where everything is, then I don’t have to waste ti-“
“Can I just start copying these?” she cut him off as she slid it back over to him and pulled her own back in front of her as she sighed heavily in preconceived defeat.
“It’ll cost you,” he joked bravely.
She looked right at him, mischief in her green eyes, “name your price.”
There was no hiding the redness that he felt envelope his entire body as he hesitated to answer, but nothing reasonable came to his mind quickly enough, “to be determined.”
“A man of mystery. I like that,” she smirked as she picked up her chair and walked over next to him and sat it down at his side, closely. “Teach me, smart guy,” she playfully commanded as she pulled the hair that kept falling into her eyes into a loose braid and nonchalantly tossed it behind her.
And so the two carefully went over the basics of things so that he could figure out where she was actually struggling. He would write out an equation for her and watch diligently as she fumbled her way through, careful to point out her mistakes without embarrassing her.
A very fast hour later they had worked through a portion of what she was struggling with when her stomach growled loudly.
“Sorry about that,” she laughed quietly before Kallus reached down into his bag to grab her one of the small snacks he usually carried with him, but came up empty.
Crap, he thought as he remembered that he needed to replenish his supply after his last workout but forgot to. “I thought I had something in here but it looks like I do not. I can run down to the first floor and grab us something,” he said, being sure to say us rather than you so that she wouldn’t have as much to fight him with.
It didn’t work.
“No you won’t,” she told him as she stood. “A snack is the least I can do for all of this,” she joked as she gestured her hand at the scattered mess that they had made. “I’ll be right back.”
“Really,” he started before she glared down playfully at him. “I really don’t mind. It will give you time to look over things.”
There was no room for argument, and as she quickly reached down and grabbed a small wallet, he didn’t put up a fight, “I’ll be right back,” she told him before she turned and he watched her disappear around a corner.
A stupid smile crossed his face and he couldn’t help but let his mind wander into a place it never had before. She was kind, and pretty, and genuine and he wanted to spend every second with her more than anything else in the galaxy.
Sweet scenarios were still running through his mind when Kallus noticed that she had been gone for longer than he realized. Another ten minutes passed and he couldn’t wait for her any longer. Something was off, he could feel it, and he knew he needed to go look for her.
Maybe she ran into a friend? She does have a lot of them, he thought as he waited for the lift. She left all of her things.
What felt like an eternity later the lift finally opened to the first level and his heart stopped instantly.
A small group of people talked animatedly to two security guards by the large entrance into the building and somehow he knew it was about her.
His feet struggled to walk and could barely find his voice when he finally reached them to ask, “what is going on?”
“Have you seen a woman fitting this description?” one of the guards asked as they showed Kallus a school holopic of the girl he was also looking for.
“Yes,” he breathed out. “She was upstairs with me studying. She came,” he paused. “I let her come down here alone,” he stuttered. “I shouldn’t have let her come down,” he said quietly to himself. I should’ve had something for her.
Everyone in the group went quiet and focused their attention solely on him.
“When was this? You said she was alone?”
“What is happening?” Kallus snapped. “She was with me fifteen minutes ago and now you’re trying to tell me she’s what? Missing or something?”
One of the guards looked at the other, “we got a report that a woman screamed and another student looked over to see two large people dragging whom we assume was her away. We need to know everything that has happened between you two tonight.”
The sound of screaming jerked Kallus’ head to his side. Just outside of the large floor to ceiling glass windows he saw her. She was running full speed,
with two large men close behind.
“There she is!” Kallus yelled as he grabbed one of the security guards by the shoulder and spun him around to see. “Look!”
“Hey, kid! Don’t touch me!” the man warned darkly as he glared back at him. “You’re already in enough hot water as is.”
“Can you not hear her? She’s right there!” Kallus pointed out of the window as he began to run to her, but terror shot through him when his feet would only skip a few short steps before they quickly cemented themselves back to the ground. He tried again in vain as the group of people stood around completely unaware of what was happening just outside.
“Alexsandr!” she screamed and he tried again to run to her but again, his feet wouldn’t take him to her. “It will be okay!”
“Why aren’t you doing something?” Kallus yelled as he watched one of the men catch and grab her.
“No! Someone do something!” Again he couldn’t move and again he heard her scream his name.
This isn’t real.
The girl continued to kick and punch at her assailant as she screamed over and over to a disinterested audience.
“You deserved to be loved!”
In the blink of an eye, the second man caught up to them and Kallus watched him pull out a blaster and laugh before he pointed it straight at her body, incapacitated on the ground when the man holding her threw her down.
Wake up.
“Captain,” he heard voices cry out all through his mind.
Wake. Up.
A small hand reached above her in vain to stop what they both knew was coming.
“No!” he heard himself scream through the cloud that surrounded him before his field of vision turned bright red and his mind finally released him from his agonizing torture.
Sleep paralysis.
Beads of sweat and tears left streaks of terrified remorse down his face as Kallus shot up so hard and fast he almost threw himself out of his bed. “Fuck,” he mumbled before he used his shirt to wipe the salt away from his tired eyes. The cold sting of adrenaline lingered in his veins that pumped so hard he thought they might explode as he rubbed uselessly at his temples and sighed.
He hadn’t thought about the girl in years.
Scenarios of her disappearance created by the unknown danced through his mind like demons around a flame over and over, year after year.
It was more than he could handle.
It was how Alexsandr Kallus learned to compartmentalize trauma at far too young an age.
~ present day ~
Alexsandr Kallus sat at a hotel bar on Coruscant loathing his existence. He hated everything from the Empire, to the stupid ceremony that he had been dragged halfway across the galaxy for, to himself. But he especially hated what he knew what he was about to do.
He thought that surveilling the Rebel cause would help fill the gaping void left within him months prior, but it was merely a small patch on a large wound. It gave him something to concentrate on, and for that he was grateful, but it wasn’t a constant.
Thoughts still managed to creep deep into his mind, especially at night.
Self medicating habits almost instantly became a regular occurrence; none of which were in the least beneficial for longer than he needed. Not a single one was remotely healthy.
Respectable was always an afterthought.
A small whirlpool formed as he swirled around yet another drink. He had easily lost count of them as he stared blankly at the ice circle and clink against the hard glass. If he had to be there, which he did not, then he at least was going to dull his senses enough to make it tolerable.
It wasn’t working.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw that she was still there; a pretty redhead with alabaster skin and piercing blue eyes. She had been staring at him for about half an hour and he finally had enough alcohol in him to manage to look back.
The woman slid off of her barstool and glided over to him. Her hips swayed effortlessly and caused the skirt of her long, revealing dress to dance from side to side like some sort of seductively irresistible mating call. He knew exactly what she was doing.
It was working.
Hello there,” she said in a low voice as she sat down next to him. “You’re far too handsome to look so sad.”
He almost laughed in her face.
“Well,” he started as he downed the last of his drink, “it’s been a sad few months.”
She tilted her head to the side and purposefully elongated her neck which caused a stir deep in his belly, “I’m sorry to hear that.”
I’m sorry to be living it.
“Wanna go forget about it?”
“Yes,” he said simply as he threw a handful of credits onto the bar top with disregard to whether the total was correct or not as he stood. A wave of dizziness hit him like a speeder and he had to blink hard a few times before he regained his composure enough to lead the woman into the hallway and to the elevator bay.
She pushed the button to go up before she turned around and pushed herself up against the wall. Her hand reached out with intent and grabbed him by the waistband before she pulled him into her and slowly ran her hands up his chest to thread her fingertips into his facial hair. His eyes closed as his stomach turned, but he didn’t pull away. He never did anymore.
It was better than the alternative. At least that’s what he always told himself.
The door to one of the lifts opened and she rolled around him and pushed him in. “What floor?”
“Twenty,” he mumbled as she pressed the button and turned back to face him.
“You didn’t hit me as the shy type,” she said quietly as she gently palmed his crotch.
He took a sharp breath in and fell back into the wall, “don’t have much to say.”
“Good,” she whispered as she began to roll her fingers in a miserably pleasurable massage; her other hand crept up around his neck before she pulled him down to kiss her but, to his relief, the doors opened before she could. “Lead the way,” she ordered as the corner of her mouth drew up and she pulled him out by his hand.
Kallus quickly guided her to his room in an awkward silence that was broken only by the sound of the beep from his keycard that opened his door.
“Fancy,” she said simply as she walked in and over to look out of the window.
“Yeah,” was all he said as he closed the door and took off his boots.
The light from outside of the window illuminated her silhouette beautifully when she turned around to face him. He found her stunning, far more attractive than Rhoan but somehow less attracting.
Kallus could easily take the woman home, but he wouldn’t keep her there.
“So shy,” she giggled before she pushed the strings of her dress from her shoulders. It fell gracefully to the ground around her as she pulled her chin down to look at him seductively before she stepped out of the fabric at her feet. “I hope that changes.”
Doubtful, he thought as he released the seal of his tunic and let it fall gracefully from his shoulders to the floor.
A low hum escaped her throat as she slowly looked up and down his chest and, for some reason he couldn’t explain to himself he felt a twinge of pain shoot through him.
You brought her up here for this reason, he scolded himself before he wrapped his hands underneath her and pulled her up to his waist. Her legs instinctively wrapped around him as he walked over to the bed and sat her down.
The woman scooted toward him to sit on the edge of the bed and began to reach for the buckle of his pants before he swatted her away. A look of confusion crossed her face but quickly turned to a small, fiendish smile when he stepped out and kicked them to the side.
Even in the darkened light he could see the woman tilt her head in morbid curiosity as she stared at the scars that wrapped around his abdomen and his breath caught at the idea of her fingers on his skin.
The ideation turned to a sickening reality when she reached toward him, and without realizing it, he grabbed her wrist hard and growled down at her, “don’t.”
A look of panic filled her eyes when he didn’t immediately let go.
It took a few seconds for Kallus’ wits came back about him; he hadn’t realized that he held onto her for as long as he had and he quickly let go. “Sorry,” he mumbled, “just…don’t”
The anxiety in her demeanor didn’t change as quickly as he liked, and for a brief moment he swore that she was going to get up and walk out.
She didn’t.
Instead, she took the not so subtle hint as she grabbed his arm instead and jerked him toward her.
Just as he macabrely craved, she pushed his semi erect penis through the tight circle she made with her thumb and forefinger. A deep moan instantly escaped his throat and he dug his fingers deep into his hips as she moved her hand back and forth along the length of him.
The slow assault continued, eventually graduating to her using her whole hand as she twisted her wrist back and forth together with increasingly harder strokes, but he barely responded. The next system over heard her loud blatant sigh as she moved down to the floor. An unstoppable embarrassment quickly shot a strong heat across his face.
“Sorry, I guess I had more to drink than I could handle,” he lied.
“It’s alright,” she also lied as she looked up at him before she leaned forward and took him into her mouth.
“Fuck,” he breathed out heavily as his head fell back and he stared at the ceiling. Fuck.
The woman moved slowly, letting her tongue drag along the artery underneath before she made small circles around the head. He responded to that and she continued, increasing in speed incrementally.
Soft tresses threaded into his fingers as he put his hand behind her head and looked down on her with intent.
The sight of her dark hair that fell swept around her shoulders, drew a charmed smile across his face as his fingers gently moved a lock behind her ear instead.
The woman brought her hands up and around his waist and grabbed onto each globe of his ass as she pushed him deep into her throat with force a few times before pulling back and looking up at him.
Kallus let out an exaggerated breath and blinked hard a few times before he looked down into her pretty eyes. A smirk played at his lips before he bent down and picked her up to toss her onto the bed. Her playful laugh echoed through the room when she made impact, and as she slowly backed to the middle of the bed he crawled with and overtook her.
There was a twitch right where he liked it when she bit her bottom lip, and he suddenly pushed her legs further apart and slid between them before he buried his face into her neck. A line of sweet kisses slowly, led to her ear when suddenly he felt her tense up.
Kallus looked at her and she furrowed her brow ever so slightly before she rolled him over and straddled him. Without breaking eye contact, she ran a finger down his chest to his pelvis and moved him right to where she wanted him. Suddenly and without warning, she trust down on him hard and fast and he let out a loud cry as he dug his fingers into her thighs.
“Now that I have your attention,” she said snidely before she put her hands on his chest and began to roll her hips up and down.
He looked up at her with sincere confusion, but only briefly before his eyes closed and his breathing deepened. She was not gentle and he didn’t care. It kept his mind from wandering and it was deeply welcomed relief. Complete concentration went into how good she felt, so much so that he was only snapped back to reality when she began to cry out his name.
“Alex,” she repeated over and over as she moved back and forth on him, her head had fallen back and her hands were tangled in her hair. “Gods, Alex, I’m gon-“ she didn’t finish as her body launched forward into multiple spasms and loud cries that indicated she had reached absolute bliss.
It took her a long few minutes to regain her composure before he shot up and spun her underneath him. Hazel green eyes looked into him as he entered her again, his mouth fell open over hers as he slowly did. Unlike the woman, he was gentle and rhythmic and attentive. His thumb brushed along her jawline before his fingers wove into her hair yet again as he pulled her face to his.
Her eyes fell closed as he felt her tighten around him once more, and as he whispered her name sweetly into her ear he felt himself clench and the build up finally release. He groaned loudly and thrust into her once more before he fell clumsily onto his side.
Alexsandr reached over to pull her into his chest, but she slapped him away from her as she rolled over and walked to the window where her clothes were.
“Is something wrong,” he asked as he pushed himself up onto his elbow.
“Seriously,” she snapped back as she pulled her dress over her head and smoothed out her hair. She glared at him until she realized that he was completely clueless. “Whoever you are, you’re not the only one with shit they’re trying to forget,” she hissed at him.
“Also, my name isn’t Rhoan.”

What Is Vedic Maths and Why Should Every Student Learn It?
Math can often be seen as an intensely focused discipline that requires extensive calculations, often to the point of frustration. What if there were an alternative that made math faster, less time-consuming, and more fun? That is where Vedic Mathematics comes in!
Vedic Maths is an ancient mathematical system that has recently gained much acclaim for its simplicity and effectiveness. Drawing inspiration from India's Veda texts from centuries past, Vedic Maths offers an effective solution to math-related problems through not just formulae but also knowing their logic and patterns behind numbers. In this blog, we'll cover what Vedic Maths is as well as why students might want to consider taking up this ancient system of calculation.
What Is Vedic Maths?
Vedic Mathematics was devised in ancient India according to its Vedas, specifically Atharvaveda. It consists of sixteen sutras (rules) and thirteen sub-sutras (sub-rules), providing an easy method of solving mathematical issues. One great aspect of Vedic Maths lies in its ability to simplify complex problems quickly, allowing complex calculations to become simple calculations with quick solutions.
Vedic Maths stands apart from conventional approaches in that it emphasizes shortcuts and techniques that enable students to find answers more quickly without memorizing formulas - making learning fun rather than daunting!
Vedic Maths 16 Sutras
These 16 principles from Vedic Maths were created to make math operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division more straightforward - as well as Squaring Square Roots or solving algebraic equations.
They comprise:
Ekadhikena Purvena -- This method assists in the squaring and multiplication of numbers.
The Nikhilam-Navatashcaramam Dashatah -- "All from 9 and the last from 10." A quick way of performing subtraction and multiplication.
Urdhva-Tiryak -- Also referred to as 'Vertical and Crosswise." This sutra is useful when multiplying large numbers.
Paravartya Yojayet: Transpose and apply, used to solve algebraic equations.
Each sutra could be applied to various mathematical problems, making complex calculations much simpler.
Why Should Every Student Study Vedic Maths?
1. Enhancing Calculation Speed and Accuracy: One of the chief advantages of Vedic Maths is its ability to increase calculation speed and accuracy. Students can tackle complex problems faster using Vedic methods than conventional ones - for instance, multiplying large numbers or finding square roots takes much less time than conventional ones! This allows them to be more effective during tests while building confidence in their math skills - essential traits in today's fast-paced society when taking competitive exams.
2. Enhancing Mental Agility:
Vedic Maths develops your brain's capacity for critical and creative thinking, providing students with opportunities to use imagination and visualization abilities, which enhance mental agility. Through crosswise multiplication techniques such as crosswise multiplication tricks, students learn different perspectives of questioning in order to increase concentration, memory, and overall concentration, which makes decisions easier in everyday situations. The mental training gained can not only help with math problem-solving but can be applied directly in everyday decision-making as well.
3. Reduces Math Anxiety:
Mathematics can often cause anxiety among students. With its simplified method and quick steps for solving complex equations and calculations, Vedic Maths helps break complex issues down into manageable chunks that reduce mental strain. By solving problems quickly, they feel less intimidated by math itself.
4. Improves Problem-Solving Skills:
Vedic Maths provides students with problem-solving capabilities by encouraging them to think outside of the box and create innovative solutions. By not solely using rote learning techniques but also thinking and patterning skills, creativity flourishes while problem-solving becomes much simpler for all concerned. Being able to approach numerous problems from different approaches will increase thinking and analytical qualities sought-after across fields.
5. Deeper Understanding of Mathematics:
Traditional mathematical techniques often entail memorizing formulae and applying them without first fully grasping their purpose or effect. Vedic Maths provides students with an in-depth knowledge of math concepts, enabling them to connect multiple ideas, recognize relationships among numbers, and build a more comprehensive understanding of it - which in turn gives students more clarity of thought when approaching more difficult mathematical topics later. This approach can result in stronger foundations for mastering more difficult issues later.
Vedic Maths makes math fun: Vedic Maths' unique design ensures it transforms a seemingly monotonous task of solving math equations into an enjoyable challenge by offering learners access to tricks, shortcuts, patterns, and other means for solving them more quickly than before - giving rise to an interest for math that makes learning an engaging activity rather than an arduous duty. It promotes a passion for mathematics while making its study enjoyable and captivating.
Who Can Benefit From Vedic Maths?
Vedic Maths is suitable for anyone; whether you are an elementary school student trying to master mathematics, an educator searching for ways to engage students more fully, or an adult looking to increase their mathematics-related capabilities - Vedic Maths will be helpful.
Vedic Maths offers school students a method for simplifying learning and excelling in tests.
Vedic Maths Can Aid in Competitive Exam Prep Candidates Students studying for competitive exams such as IIT-JEE, UPSC, GMAT, or SAT can use Vedic Maths to more quickly and precisely address questions in Vedic Maths questions.
Professionals Who Work In Fields Requiring Frequent Calculations, Such as Engineering, Finance and Data Analysis Will Benefit Anyone working in fields that entail frequent calculations - like engineering, finance, or data analysis will find increased processing speed and accuracy beneficial to their field.
