With such great songs as #imwaitingfortheman #femmefatale #venusinfurs #heroin #alltomorrowsparties love how this controversial album was banned from many a record store for its content - I actually have the real cover that peels to a flesh colored banana - thanks Andy! - everyone pretty much hated this record when it came out - I loved it! However it was the 70’s when I discovered the record . I was a big fan of Warhol and loved Andy’s Work as my Mom turned me onto him and later in life we met in NYC at the great club #area - this album is a love letter to the seedy side of 60’s NYC nothing but love for The Velvet Underground, was lucky enough to see the reunion in New York City Enjoy! A Brief History of Album Covers, 2017 - The Velvet Underground. “The Velvet Underground and Nico” [1966]. Andy Warhol may have produced the #velvetunderground ‘s debut album in name only, but his print artwork for the sleeve helped to secure the album’s place in music history. The bright yellow banana on a plain white background perfectly captures the late-60s Pop Art movement as #andywarhol saw it, using simple, recognizable popular culture imagery for mass production. Initial runs of the album had a “Peel slowly and see” instruction next to the banana.
