Santa Fe, New Mexico. Founded in 1610, it is the oldest capitol city in the US, also the highest in elevation at 7,200 feet above sea level. A place with a blend of cultures, art, and food that draws over 1,000,000 visitors annually!

I lived here for 4 years in the foothills of the Sangre De Cristo (Blood of Christ) mountain range. The footage taken here is with my DJI Mavic Pro Platinum drone. Shot in 4k, you see a bird’s eye view of downtown Santa Fe, and the state capitol building with the flags. The first mountain in the distance is Sandia (Watermelon) mountian. The camera pans, and you are looking at the Sangre De Cristo mountain range.

DJI’s new Mavic Pro Platinum is quieter and stays in the air longer

DJI's Mavic Pro drone already has fantastic battery life, but it's still got nothing on its upgraded sibling. The dronemaker has revealed the Mavic Pro Platinum edition at this year's IFA convention in Berlin, and it boasts 11 percent more battery life than the original version. If the basic variant of DJI's foldable drone can last up to 27 minutes, this model can last up to around 30. Sure, the upgrade only adds a few minutes, but most drones, including known Mavic Pro rival GoPro Karma, only promise around 20 minutes of flight time. That's made even more impressive by the fact that drone's battery cell is tiny.

In addition to having a longer battery life, Platinum is also 60 percent quieter than its predecessor. DJI says it achieved an increase in flight time and significant noise reduction by using some new internal components and freshly designed propellers. The good news is that the current Mavic Pro model is also compatible with the new propellers, so even older users can lessen the noise their units make.

While DJI hasn't revealed a new Phantom series model for professional aerial photography, it has announced a new Phantom 4 Pro color: obsidian. The new matte-gray drone has a magnesium shell with anti-fingerprint coating, as you can see below. Finally, the UAV-maker has revealed a new photo mode called "Sphere" for its gesture-controlled Spark drone. Once it rolls out with DJI's upcoming software updates, you'll be able to use the mode to capture panoramic photos with a fisheye lens effect.

The Mavic Pro Platinum edition is now available for pre-order from DJI's website. It will set you back 1,119 GBP (around $1,440) and will start shipping in September. The Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian will also come out in September, though that one will cost you 1,589 GBP ($2,043).

I got the DJI Mavic Pro Platinum, and this is one of the only shots I have left. I was practicing my skills flying it, and was really impressed with it’s ability to capture high resolution film in low light. The drone had a 1” hassleblad 4k camera.

Unfortunately I crashed the $2k drone into a tree next to the cathedral just a few weeks later, and lost it in the branches! I tried to retrieve the drone by borrowing a 30 foot ladder from the maintenance crew at the La Fonda Hotel across the street. When I was in the pine tree, the priest of the church came out and began yelling at me telling me he would call the police if I didn’t come down immediately. Luckily I didn’t go to jail that day!

I spoke to the church and they told me to hire an arborist with insurance to climb up the tree to retrieve the drone. When I called, the arborist told me he wouldn’t be able to help me for a few days. I then paid $100 for the arborist to climb the tree to find my drone, but he looked all over and didn’t find it. I asked the security at the church to review the footage of the cameras, and they saw a construction worker pick up the drone off the ground after it was blown out of the tree by wind!

To this day, I still don’t have my drone. 😢

Vergleichstests zwischen Master Airscrew “DJI Mavic Pro & Platinum STEALTH Upgrade Propellers – x4 Black” und Original DJI Mavic Pro Version 8330. Zuerst sind dierektvergleiche des Flugverhaltens zu sehen, danach ein Kreisflug in 5m Höhe und 10m Entfernung (da die Geräusche ja je nach Windrichtung anders transportiert werden) Am Ende noch hart zusammen geschnitten damit man die Geräusche direkt vergleichen kann. Beim Steigflug (nicht im Video) konnte man feststellen das die Originalpropeller bis in 70m Höhe zu hören waren, aber die MAS schon bei 30m kaum noch zu hören waren.

First you can see a direct comparison of the flight behaviour, then a circle flight in 5m height and 10m distance (because the noises are transported differently depending on the wind direction). At the end you have a hardcut to compare the noises together. During the climb (not in the video) I could notice that the original propellers could be heard up to 70m, but the MAS could hardly be heard at 30m.
