Not by sound. You don't make a sound in this Zone if you've been here long enough or are born of its very fabric. Sound kills here in various cruel ways, and good Schwarzwalder stalkers barely even make the shuffling of cloth or jingle of tack, if that. Muting their very existence from the world in the hopes of staying alive. Even when running full bore between the tree trunks and that is a good reason to fear their prowess and their need for survival, where they would be capable of eliminating even their heavy taxed breath in everything but sight.

It's not that looming presence either, a slight pressure on the back of the neck of being watched. Many things here have that and he's felt it wafting off the monstrous spindly Ritters that slip around through old ruins, or the imposing giants of the various Trees that shuffle about in their own daily routines. The Wolf is for sure a creature of a woman, that much is certain, with such an intimidating presence it makes most surprised to learn she's still human at all. Not to him though, he's used to her by now.

No, it's the smell. Tones of freshly-rained soil and rose-oil, with the tang of gunpowder and gun oil and human musk faintly beneath, wreathed together with the smell of smoke. Clove tobacco isn't so hard to come by. A sweet spice that overrides the earthier taste of tobacco beneath and clings to every fiber and crevice it can find. Little sprites too fleeting sparking to life mysteriously from the gaping maw of the silver wolf's head pipe and clinging futilely to something on their way to non-existence.

An exhale as she wafts passed him and calculates with little effort how to traverse the steep slope of the roots in front of her, the glow off her eyes reflecting off those tiny delicate tendrils as they vanish into the ether around her head like a broken halo. The crooked smirk as she utters just three low words:

"C̛ ͘H À N͠ ̨G ͏E I S̶ C̀ O͠ ͞M I N G҉......"

It sounds like more than one person is speaking, a distinct undertone of creaking wood like trees in a heavy wind. But all Guides here tend to speak for the Schwarzwald, and likely this is an instance it is using her to relate the latest news, albeit vague.

He might have hesitated a moment to let the goosebumps settle, but in the face of change in a Zone as old and as dangerous as this one, it's better to stick around a Guide. So instead, he follows the smell and shifting plume of clove smoke disappearing down the ridge.

Change is coming, and it is somewhere behind them.

Apparently, my decision to be silly and make fanart of someone's writing (because I genuinely enjoy the story the person is writing and I was struck with inspiration upon reading a particular scene) has benevolent and wildly unforeseen consequences.

I apparently gained a bit of control of the canon because said writer really loved the art and decided what I drew/draw is canon.

2. Writer put said artwork into the document of his story right below the scene, so now it's IN the story where people who read the story will see it (with a link to me)

3. He sent the artwork to all his friends and people he knows because he was so excited

Wholesome interaction and I watched him do all that in real time, good stuff. However...there are two more consequences I was notified of today...nearly a full week after I gave the artwork.

Seeing the artwork caused his friends to become interested in reading and hearing about his story, which means more people are reading what he's writing and giving him critique on the story (which he actively asks for).

Apparently, upon seeing the art, his writer friends got a sudden second wind to pick back up writing they'd abandoned for a few months. Because, I quote, "seeing that someone enjoyed {his} writing enough to take the time to make art of it gave them the motivation that maybe THEY can write something that will inspire someone to also create something." I have accidentally caused a writing frenzy among his writer friends and my silly idea to make art for someone has had a butterfly effect for people who I don't even know.

Uhh...I'm pretty sure there's a moral here but I am tired and have a great deal of emotions about this.
