You know what's tiny? A space bunk. He will starfish like a mothaf**ker on that queen size, and you gotta just give him that from time to time. If the stay in the hotel is just one night (and there's been no other time away from you recently), absolutely he will stretch out, pillows everywhere, each limb under a separate layer,--seriously though why are there nine layers of blankets and sheets? that's nuts--and no alarm if at all possible. However, if the stay is longer or the hotel is for a specific couple's vacation thing, then no, he would never spend a whole night outside of your bed. Maybe a nap after too much sun, or likely some space if he (or you) is feeling ill, but otherwise, Mace is very good at sharing resources with people he likes.

Curtis Everett

Oof. I really had to think about this guy. Some of Mace applies here, too, but Curtis likes the idea of having extra room far more than he likes using the room. I think he would try to fall asleep in the other bed for whatever reason, and then inevitably just crawl back in with you. He has never made it a whole night away, even if he falls asleep on the couch at home. He always has to be within arm's reach by the time you wake up.

Jimmy Dobyne

No. Nope. Not in the slightest.

He doesn't particularly like waste, so he might call down to see if there is a room with just one bed available, in case some other guests could use the two. Jimmy also hates the fuss of cleaning. He's acutely aware of how much effort would go into remaking the second bed (washing, etc) and won't even put things on top of the unused bed for the whole stay. Not your bag. Not your butt. Not a towel. Nada.

Johnny Storm

Few quick questions: this hotel is fireproof, right? The bedding, okay, but what about the carpet? The curtains? Are the headboards made of wood? Is the varnish flammable? You don't know? Shit, well, he needs to know.

I feel like Johnny has to have like a special tarp thing to lay over normal bed linens, but honestly, I can't really see how he's ever safe to sleep outside of his own customized bedroom. People do not have complete control while they are unconscious. That's super dangerous for folks like Johnny. Reed's fine because what's the worst that could happen, his foot actually hangs off the edge of the mattress? If we were talking about Ben, the weight-capacity would be a concern, too, so even if you are fine to sleep in the same bed as Johnny and sometimes get burned a bit...I...I'm just not convinced a hotel would want extraneous furniture in there.

That's not a sexy answer, but it's the one you're getting.

This is Lloyd's vampire phase. As you can probably deduce, it is not about you, but he will take whatever he can from you.

50/50. Ari is moody. He changes with the wind (not in a bad way but for all the small, subtle stuff), and he sometimes just fancies a bit of something different. Take that as you will--and by that I mean run with it because I am totally talking about all sorts of different things to do in bed. He's the type of man who does better with a bit of alone time, too. Never means any offense by it. Just has spells of needing socializing and needing quiet.

Ransom Drysdale

Literally, I feel like I always have the same answer for Ran: it depends on when this is in your relationship and what the hotel stay is for.

Early on in dating, he aires on the side of caution and goes by his mood and yours. If there's been frustration in the day--due to his family or work or anything--then maybe you need some space. When Ransom is in a relationship, for real, he's actually very attuned to the tone of sex--which, of course, will happen no matter the mood of the day--so a lot of connection and intimacy will tell him it's good to stay close while a simpler, transactional need to get off tells him the other bed might be best.

Ran, however, would not get--or enjoy--the 'prank' of this challenge, and stop goddamn filming him for tiktok!

Steve Rogers

This feels like a whole season of 'What If...?' but I'll try to simplify.

Are you an Avenger or agent? Are you two on a mission together? I think Bucky is hardcore about keeping sharp and professional during those times. Sleep shifts. Minimal touching. The whole nine yards because safety is paramount. Is there some reason there could be surveillance of you two and you're supposed to be a couple? Bucky can put on one hell of a show like that. Just saying. I doubt, however, that he would mix business and pleasure unless absolutely necessary.

Are you a civilian? Is he a civilian now? Then no, he's in that one bed holding you until the second (maybe third) snooze cycle rings on his alarm. He's notorious for giving himself cushions of time, so it's never him needing to rush out on the average day. It took a while to adjust, but Buck can now also vacation with the best of them. Takes advantage of all the bells and whistles: minibar, room service, and the 'do not disturb' sign. Champion vacationer, he is, of this I have no doubt.

And I've been cooking up some more lore so buckle up it's gonna be long (I'm so sorry😭):

You know Tripitaka tried to correct and help Sun Wukong in the JTW? (We get hints of that in LMK) Well imagine that, but with the First Spinjutsu Master as Tripitaka and Yuzhao as SW, after lots, lots, and I mean a lot of attempted murders from Yuzhao's parts they eventually became friends, and FSM began telling him about the vision and prophecies he had.

One of them being that a (insert element) master would one day beat him when the time came.

So basically after being freed the reason he became interested in the Ninjas is because of that prophecy, knowing they were the one.

Except he's not mad, buddy became so strong that he want someone to be challenge him so psychotically bad that instead of stopping that prophecy he keeps pushing it.

Though he forgets the difference between mortal and immortal and may or may not put them in deadly situation thinking it won't harm them much.

So (pls pls pls?) write a headcannon of it with the Ninjas?? Like each Ninja you're writing for is the one the prophecy is talking about, eventually he explains the prophecy to them by accident in the most comic way possible.

You can add Garmadon and Wu but instesd of the prophecy talking about them it's about Lloyd, and how they would react to how Yuzhao acts towards Lloyd, and yes they are unaware of the prophecy but FSM did give them some hints in the past 👀👀

☆ ┈ The two of them often started discussing this together, and finally realized that their father had left clues about the prophecy for them. And, well, guess who goes after it, telling the ninja team to watch you and not leave you alone with Lloyd?

☆ ┈ So, these two intend to do everything in their power to prevent the prophecy. And, unfortunately to you, without you.

My Evil Arin AU Prediction (Fully Expecting To Be Wrong)

So Arin, caught up in Sora’s lie, believes in the false hope that he has his abilities starting to be figured out. That with Lloyds, Sora’s, and his own minds support, he can be a valuable ninja and be a great asset to the mission to get Kai and Bonzle back.

My prediction of this is that Ras and the gang come up with a plan to revive the blood moon to get the other elemental masters freed. So the ninja after realizing this plan have to return to the dragons to come up with a way to save Kai and Bonzle.

But oh no, Egalt (sorry I still can’t spell his name) still things Arin isn’t good enough.

Arin is by no means arrogant of his own abilities after his success, (that’d be very OOC in my opinion), but he is more trusting in himself and blindly optimistic that he has more of this figured out than he actually does.

He tries to prove this, but no matter what he does, he just can’t get it right.

Even Lloyd starts to get confused. But, you know, Arin could do it, so he has faith in the kid that practice will make perfect.

There could even be a scene where Lloyd tells Arin about his experience of getting possessed by Morro (maybe Euphrasia is also in this scene to give her character development), and how his own master, Master Wu, set him up for something so impossible that Morro became twisted jaded and arrogant in himself to achieve something he couldn’t.

Lloyd is saying this as a warning for Arin. While he by no means thinks Arin is acting the same way Morro was, he had the paranoia that he could. And Lloyd totally knows he isn’t setting Arin up for something impossible. He saw Arin get better and be able to do his tricks. So it’s not an impossible standard. Totally not.

Then there’s Sora, who is trying to keep her distance from Arin, who doesn’t know why. The guilt of what she’s done is killing her, and it’s cost her some sleep knowing that either route she could take could potentially end her friendship with Arin. Keep the lie and watch Arin meet his downfall, or tell him the truth and crush his spirits for good.

After all, she was the one person who since the very beginning believed in Arin. Even when no one else did.

And then she didn’t.

She can’t ever take that betrayal back.

Then, you know, she’s learning Spinjitsu. But Arin isn’t completely bothered by it so long as he’s got his own thing going too.

Arin is obviously hurt by her distance, unsure if there was something he did wrong. But maybe there’s a scene where he pours his heart out to her about their friendship, how their belief in each other is something nothing can undo, and how no matter what is bothering her, she should know very well how forgiving he is.

So she’s ready to be honest and tell him-

And then one of the generals of the villain faction attacks them (and whoever else you want to say is here). For now I’m gonna say Jordana, but anyone can take this slot.

And in this fight, Sora gets knocked down, and Arin is ready to defend her using his object Spinjitsu…

But he fails.

And Jordana reveals to Arin, against Sora’s consent, that Sora lied to him and used her own tech to move that object in that fight. She really taunts it in that his best friend and companion never believed in him and was lying to him the whole time.

How does Jordana know this? Idk maybe she found out in a scene before this.

Arin is obviously so devastated that he’s zoned out and unable to defend himself.

Sora, enraged from Jordana having zero respect, protects Arin and does Spinjitsu for the first time.

Jordana is forced to retreat at Sora’s power, part of that has to do with her anger. And once she’s gone, Sora cools off and tries to help Arin. She doesn’t even care or process that she did Spinjitsu, she’s more concerned about her friend.

But Arin is just… blank. Spaced out. He should be furious at Sora, yell at her and express how absolutely betrayed he feels…

But instead, nothing comes out of him. His feelings towards Sora, or the fight, or everything else is replaced by… nothing. And Sora now being able to do what he can while he’s still him is just icing on the cake that Arin is basically nothing now.

Blah blah, in some other points of the season they can learn more about the elemental masters and the wolf masks and the reveal of Ras’s master.

But Arin is mostly just a spaced out person in the way of all of this, it seems.

Lloyd obviously chews out Sora for her stunt and lying about it, but it’s clear she’s very much aware of the damage she’s done and wants to figure out how to apologize and make it right. She doesn’t know how though with Arin’s condition. Lloyd is quick to forgive her so long as she’s willing to try this apology towards Arin.

Lloyd is also trying to help Arin the best he can. It doesn’t matter to him that Arin doesn’t have anything figured out yet. Lloyd himself didn’t, even when his destiny was written in stone. Arin is just… a late bloomer, shall we say.

This doesn’t help Arin, and even tries to get Lloyd to tell him the ‘truth’. That he is a failure of a ninja. He can’t even help with beating Ras. He can’t even find his own parents…

But Lloyd still refuses to call Arin a failure.

That’s a shred of hope that Arin has that maybe the voices in his head, and Ras, are wrong. As long as his idol believes in him.

Maybe he even expressed how much he misses his birth parents. He misses the life he had before the merge. Even everything made sense. Maybe then he could be a kid DREAMING about these big things and not having to think those dreams would ever come true. That was the simple life.

Then there’s the mission to save Kai and Bonzle. And stop Ras and the others. A plan that’s so tight on the ninjas end that they NEED this to go PERFECTLY. Otherwise, a lot could go wrong.

As such, Lloyd makes the call to leave Arin out of the field part of the mission. Instead he’s gonna be working in the back on comms or something.

Arin tries to convince the others that he wants to be out there and help save Kai, but there’s no convincing the others. They all have agreed to leaving Arin behind for his own good. Especially Lloyd. He lost Kai to this and Kai was a professional. He can’t drag Arin into this and lose him too, if a vision of his is correct. (Maybe he sees Ras grabbing Arin’s hand or something, and he’s come to the conclusion that Ras would use Arin as a sacrifice too)

So they leave, and Arin is stuck on comms.

But eventually, seeing one of them get knocked down hard, Arin decides to refuse the order to stay in place. He goes on the field anyway, ready to prove himself and help the ninja as a ninja.

So far, the plan on the ninjas end is going very smoothly. They got Bonzle out and are ready to get Kai out too, and they’re fending off the villains pretty good…

But then Arin interferes, trying to help. You can decide exactly what he does, Im not sure.

Point is, that because of Arin’s actions, and specifically that, everything goes wrong.

More of the elemental masters get out, (probably using Euphrasia as one of the sacrifices), and not only that, but they are unable to get Kai out of there.

They try hard, very hard, but ultimately… they fail.

Four of the elemental masters get out, and they’re ready for the last one when Lloyd realizes Arin is here and Arin is the cause of this disaster.

Not only were they not able to save Kai, Lloyds beloved surrogate brother, but they also now lost others too (whoever you want to imagine got sacrificed. Pick two more characters you think did alongside Kai and Euphrasia). And it’s all Arin’s fault.

So in a bit of rage and unable to think straight (also from his own mental health issues making him irrational), Lloyd lashes out at Arin.

Arin ruined everything.

Arin didn’t listen to him.

Arin should’ve stayed behind.

Arin doesn’t know what he’s doing out here.

Arin is a failure.

And as soon as that last one gets said out loud, Lloyd snaps out of his rage and realizes what he’s done.

He just confirmed all of Arin’s insecurities. That everyone who said Arin was a failure and a terrible ninja were correct. That absolutely nobody believes in him to do the right thing.

Lloyd IMMEDIATELY regrets it. He immediately tries to take it back! He didn’t mean it! He’s sorry! They’re gonna figure something out! He’s so sorry-

And then Ras gets behind them and knocks away Lloyd. After a short fight, Lloyd becomes the last sacrifice for the spell, all while Lloyd is begging and screaming for Arin.

Arin is obviously devastated by what he’s heard and can’t even process the situation. All the elemental masters are freed and it’s his fault. His idol is gone and it’s his fault.

The very idol that said to his face that he was not good enough.

…was he even an idol anymore?

Arin kneels down to Ras in surrender, ready to be defeated. But he becomes surprised when Ras instead shows pity towards the kid.

Instead, Ras offers Arin a way to find his parents. To go back to his old life and not worry about any of these people who never believed in him.

All he has to do is join Ras and help him out. In exchange, he would spare him and his parents. He even offers the wolf mask to help Arin reach his full potential and become the powerful fighter he saw in him.

And with nothing else left, Arin accepts this deal, allowing himself to be corrupted by the mask.

Almost immediately, his insecurities vanished and are replaced with a sense of purpose, of belonging, of power. With nothing holding him back.

He decides to commit to going rogue and finding his parents with this power. He doesn’t care if Ras wins or loses so long as Arin gets what he wants.

With Arin leaving and now on the dark side, Sora, who I guess was knocked out during the fight or something, realizes what has happened.

It’s not hard to imagine her bawling her eyes out and realizing she just lost her best friend. Maybe she even blames herself.

For the remainder of the season, Arin is just kinda along for the ride with Ras’s forces and the master taking a liking to him and helping him control his new abilities. Maybe he’s able to do the object Spinjitsu without much issue thanks to the mask power. But like I said, Arin doesn’t really care about these villains and their plans, so he’s not concerned which side wins, so long as he gets what he wants.

I’m going to say that Sora, making an army with whoever is remaining, sets up one last fight to rescue the sacrificed ninja.

And TLDR, they win and they’re all fine.

I mean, it’s Ninjago, what do you expect?

The only notable thing is that at some point of this fight, Sora is cornered and most certainly going to get a killing blow by someone, but Arin stops them to ‘focus priority on something more important’.

Even evil, Arin can’t bring anyone, especially not himself, to kill his best friend.

It’s short, but it’s enough that after the fight, Sora says that she knows Arin is still in there and there may be a way to save him in the future.

She doesn’t know how yet, but with her power is a strong responsibility to use it properly this time, and she’s making it her own personal mission to get Arin back. No matter how hard the road of struggle and training is, and no matter how long it takes.

Then of course she has to explain to the others, especially Lloyd, that Arin has turned to the dark side.

Lloyd is the most hurt by this, for obvious reasons.

He failed his student.

He can imagine Wu’s ghost shaking his head in disappointment in Lloyd.

From here on, (season three), Lloyd kinda changes as a mentor. He’s still caring towards the kids, but he’s much stricter on them and very cryptic and demanding of them. Kinda like how Wu was in the first couple of seasons of the main show. It’s obviously taxing on the others. But they also kinda understand how paranoid Lloyd is that he’ll fail another person.

With Ras’s forces defeated and the main members scattered, (whoever you want to say is alive or dead), Arin is alone with a bind of his own to Ras’s master guiding him.

Arin becomes a rogue wanderer searching for answers on where his parents are. And while he doesn’t resort to killing, he still will not let anyone get in his way or let him feel that despair of failure ever again. Not even the ninja.

I expect this to be totally wrong. As I said, I don’t think this theory will come true at all. At most I expect Arin to be turned good again and fixed after like one episode. Whereas this AU theory has Arin’s villainy be expanded further into Dragons Rising where Arin becomes a reoccurring antagonist. But while a villain and having seen a villain origin story unfold, we the audience are still routing for Arin anyway in a pretty twisted kind of way. I don’t know, I thought that’d be an interesting angle instead of ‘And then he became a heartless monster’

So because of my lovely partner here @tricogarfield I kind of got the thought pjo x ninjago (I do this with most fandom) so here’s a few ideas I have idk if I’ll take a deeper dive into it

( this is also more based on pjo and not OoO)

This will mainly be Cole,Jay,Nya,Zane,Lloyd and Kai

( yes I know they have canon elements but I tried to think of a good story too🙏)

Nya and Kai:

So for the siblings my first thought was that Kai should be a child of Hermes or Ares and have the whole Luke arc in a way? But to keep them siblings too but to bring angst I kind of got the idea that have the same mom but differently godly parents.

Look idk how that would fully work out but Nya would be a child of Poseidon mostly because I can see her being a badass woman who starts to argue with the gods

My second thought for her was one of Artemis followers? Mostly because I feel like Kai and her would have gotten into an argument which resulted in a split and each of them going their own ways while Kai gets to deal with Cronos Nya joins Artemis

I don’t know yet so bare with me😞

So for Jay

I know everyone would go for Zeus due to lightning but I kind of can see him more in either Demeter;Apollo or Aphrodite similar to piper? Idk but these were my first thoughts( potentially can also see him as a a child of iris)

I don’t know why these first came into my head but again bare with me it’s only my first thought 😭

As for Cole

Genuinely like the idea of a hephaistos kid because I feel like it would fit however I’m not denying the thought of a Hecate kid as well? Maybe? Idk just thoughts again😖

Lloyd definitely is a Hades kid for me who acts like a Apollo kid. Look I know he’s not dark and gloomy but I feel like it would be so interesting to people if they saw him thought oh yeah Apollo and it’s just a Hades kid 😭

Im kind of stuck on Zane but atm I feel like Demeter or Zeus would fit him? If we’re going by bigger gods but I can also see Hebe maybe?Iris could be interesting too..

Like I said these are just thoughts so I would be very interested if anyone else thought of this

Okay, personal thoughts on dragons rising under the cut. Spoilers ahead!

I didn't care too much about Wildfyre going into part 2. she was cool but not really a character I was fully invested in. That is, until her and Kai went on their little quest/mission to get the dragon energy core. They were so Sweet! I loved how Kai had to be the responsible one and how Wildfyre had to learn how to thikn before she acted. They're a really good dynamic and I their relationship growing during this season felt very natrual and good!

Zane! also not one of my favorite characters. But him speaking to a broom with Pixal's photo taped to it got to me okay? I do wonder now where she is.

Mr. Frohicky (idk how to spell things, i've been up all night. give me a break lol) I did Not expect him to return after the crossroads episode back in part 1. He's actually grown on me a lot. It's still kinda weird bc the tone of this show is just a Bit different than previous Ninjago. But it's not bad and I wouldn't hate seeing more of him in the future

Lloyd. God he got so much character develepment this season but especially in part 2! From him trying to do everything on his own to upkeep the Monastary and then finally excepting help, to getting much better at teaching the new ninja. I really loved all the scenes with him an Arin and how their relationship has gone from Arin being a fanboy, to genuine respect and friendship. 10/10

Speaking of Lloyd. What on Earth was all that stuff he saw Again when he acted as the conduit again? I really hope we get more info on those vision in the next season. That's the one big mystery that they havn't really touched on

last lloyd thing, mayeb it's just the angst lover in me, but I really hope there's some kind of conequence to him acting as the conduit. Maybe it starts really draining him or maybe it just makes accessing his power a little harder. I hope they explain it or at least like, mention it.

I'm actually kinda glad they didn't go the whole route of having Nya distrust the Djinn guy who'se name i can't remember lol. It was a nice expectation subversion. Bc my first thought was that he was gonna be evil/ have heard that *she* was the one who tecnically destroyed Djinnjago. I really like that they helped him the way they did and the lesson it taught Sora

Speaking of Sora. I love her. I still fully belive that her power is creation but if it is just 'tech power' i really like how they're handling it. LIke we all Knew it was never Ryu's power she was using but the moment *she* figured that out still felt genuine and deserved because we saw her go through the process of realizing whta was holding her back. 10/10. no notes

Freaking COLE! So him and Lloyd are tied as my favorite charaters bc yee. But holy shit even tho it was 5 am when i got to his episode and i was exhausted. I sat up on the couch and just lost my shit. One, he's still so good at finding people in trouble/captured and deciding he's their protecter. I love him so much. and two. was it just me or was that whole episode so freaking queer coded it isnt funny? Like, even more so than his true potential episode back in S1.

Shipping aside, I really like how on par with his character his episodes were. Even tho they were short and I really crave more about him, they did a good job of leaving just enough questions to keep us interested while also showing us the important parts. Plys the new ability rock monster thing is cool

in that same vein. what the fuck does 'the earth is screaming' mean? hello that shits terrifying? My theory atm is that its' the realms fighting the merge bc it's like unnatural or something. but idk. i would have liked to hear more about that

Zane's car!!!! I own that set and holy fuck it did not dissapoint! At first i was kinda bummed it didn't do Actual spinjitzu, at least I don't think so. But him spinning wildy and saying 'this is adequate' or whatever, is so freaking funny! also it's super fast and looks epic. no notes lol

and Jay! we see him! I'm not really a big jay fan but I am curious what theyr'e gonna do with him next season

and finally, i Really liked all the references to past seasons/events! Even if it wasn't in your face, it was still really nice to be able to see all the pices of the past sprinkled throughout. It was also funny to see Sora being surprised Lloyd is the FSM's grandson. 10/10

Misako sketches what Christmas used to be when Garmadon was still around.

"It's snowing," Misako said to herself while she was in the room she once shared with Garmadon.

"Christmas is..." She knew she should be with her son, but she simply couldn't.

She let him have fun with his friends; she didn't want to burden him with her dark thoughts.

She couldn't bear the thought of having Christmas without Garmadon. And she reminisced about how wonderful Christmases used to be.

~~~Before Lloyd:~~~

"Where should we place the Christmas tree?" Garmadon cheerfully walked around the apartment, searching for a suitable spot.

"Don't you think it's a little early for the tree?" Misako asked Garmadon.

"December 21th is coming," Garmadon replied. "When else would we put up the tree?"

"Well, I don't know," Misako grumpily answered. "How about on Christmas Eve?"

"Christmas Eve?" Garmadon repeated in disbelief. "Last year, we practically put it up at the beginning of the month."

"I know," mumbled Misako. "I just... "

"What's wrong with you?"

Garmadon put his arm around her shoulder. "This year, you're acting like a real Grinch."

"I'm not a Grinch!" Misako angrily replied. "Okay... maybe... a little. I just don't like that it's cold, wet, and dark outside."

"It was the same last year," Garmadon reminded her. "And back then, you were so excited about Christmas."

"I'm just like that," lazily replied Misako. "One year, I'm into Christmas, and the next, I'm not..."

"That doesn't work. It's either yes or no," interrupted Garmadon.

"Clearly, it can," Misako smiled at him and kissed his cheek.

"You're missing the Christmas spirit," Garmadon told her.

"What are we going to do about it?" Misako sweetly teased him.

"We'll go ice skating," Garmadon replied.

"But, sweety, do I have to remind you that every year you remind me that you can't skate?"

"We'll figure it out," Garmadon replied more confidently than he felt.

"Then I agree," Misako said with a smile, reaching out her hand to Garmadon.

"This was not a good idea! This was not a good idea!" Garmadon started panicking when he stepped onto the ice.

"Come on, you can do it!" Misako encouraged him, taking hold of his hands.

For a few moments, all eyes were on them, and a few children even laughed and pointed at Garmadon.

"It's not something you can forget.

"Unless you never knew!"

"You could at least stand on the ice before, I'm sure of it," Misako said, pulling him by the hand.

"Watch out!" he said as he slid onto his backside, which made a few children laugh.

"Come on, even kids are making fun of you. If you could skate at least a little years ago, you can do it now."

"You sure?" Garmadon asked and swallowed hard.

"Yes, come on, let me hold your hand."

"Can I get the help for children?"

"They took everything, and I somehow think that's not enough for you."

"Well, then I have no choice." Garmadon exhaled and let Misako pull him to his feet.

"This wasn't even that bad." Garmadon admitted when he and Misako got off the ice. "I only fell a few times."

"I agree." Misako took his hand. Except for the drama at the beginning."

"Did the children really mock me that much?"

"I'm afraid so." Misako smiled. "But don't worry, I think we've had enough skating for this year."

"I agree with that." Garmadon said sternly.

"Shall we decorate the Christmas tree now?"

"Sure." Misako said as they headed home.

~~~With Lloyd:~~~

"Dwaddy, mwmmy,"little Lloyd yelled and ran to his parents. "I wawt two pwut aw bvig stwar!"

He pointed towards the huge Christmas tree opposite him.

"Of course, sweetheart," Misako said and kissed him on the head. "Let daddy lift you up."

"Come here, son," Garmadon said and opened his arms. Lloyd ran to him and Garmadon lifted him onto his shoulders.

"Mwumy, lwok! A stwar!" Little Lloyd excitedly shouted as he pointed to the top of the tree.

"Well done, sweetheart," Misako smiled and took him in her arms. "But now we have to go to sleep."

"Nwo!" little Lloyd pouted and crossed his arms over his chest, looking so comical that Misako and Garmadon started laughing uncontrollably.

"Listen to mommy, Lloyd," Garmadon said to him and led him to his room. "You have to go to sleep if you want Santa Claus to come and bring you presents."

They struggled with him for a while, but eventually he agreed to go to bed.

"Let's wrap his present," Misako said and pulled out the scissors.

"Honey, can you bring the wrapping paper?"

"Didn't you prepare it?" Garmadon asked her.

"No..." Misako said, feeling embarrassed. "We don't have any wrapping paper, do we?"

"No," Garmadon replied and put his arm around her waist. "But we can just put it under the tree as it is."

"We don't have a choice," Misako sighed and laughed when Garmadon kissed her on the cheek. "I can't wait to see the look on his face when he wakes up in the morning."

"Me too," Garmadon responded. "Just hope it's not too early, like 6 am."

"Then we better go catch as much sleep as we can," she said and kissed Garmadon, pulling him by the hand.

"Come on, tomorrow will be a long day."

~~~After Final battle:~~~

"Do you want to put a star on the Christmas tree?" Sensei Garmadon asked Lloyd when they finished decorating the Christmas tree.

"Sure," Lloyd said and tiptoed to reach the top.

"Do you need help getting up?" Garmadon asked, reminiscing about past Christmases.

"No, thanks," Lloyd replied, feeling offended.

"Leave him alone," Misako said to Garmadon, gently nudging him with her elbow and winking.

"Soon, Lloyd will be taller than you."

"Hmm," Garmadon said, smiling. "I can't wait to see that."

"You'll see, soon," Lloyd remarked and headed to his room.

"Where are you going so early?" Misako asked, confused, and looked at the clock. "It's only ten o'clock."

"You know the routine," Lloyd reminded them with a smile. "I go to sleep, and you wrap my gift. And I also keep up the tradition of waking you up at six in the morning."

"Oh, great," Garmadon groaned. "I forgot the wrapping paper."

"I don't have it either, love," Misako sank into his embrace as he kissed her temples a few times. "Neither do I."

When she finished with thecutting, she didn't even realize how much she was trembling.

The room was very cold, and suddenly it seemed so big to her.

"It will get better." She comforted herself as she felt tears on her face.

She didn't care. It would be better if she let it all out now.

"It will get better." She said, crying as she imagined what Garmadon was doing and where he was.

"It will get better." She repeated to herself as she sobbed.

Even though she knew it wouldn't. Even though Garmadon was there, they were no longer a family.

It wasn't the Christmas they used to have.

Soooo my attitude to the relationship between Garmadon and Misako in the series!

As we were shown, and the way I understood it, we can come to the conclusion that: in the past, Misako was in love with two brothers, and it was very difficult to choose whom to give her heart to, but one day Wu decides to send a letter with a beautiful confession. Chen - Garm's former master intercepts the letter and decides to tell him what his brother wants to do and pushes him to change him signature and send the letter on his own behalf. He does so, Misako receives the letter, immediately realizes that Garmadon is the same, and chooses him. As a result, she becomes his girlfriend, marries him, and gives birth to his son Lloyd. However, there is still poison in Garm's body, and after a while he turns completely to the dark side, disappears, etc.

Misako learns that her son is a green ninja, and does everything to stop the fate in which her son must kill his own father. Therefore, she not only runs away from the monastery and takes the child, but also sends him to a boarding school, that is, she leaves her child, in fact abandons it, and gives all of herself in the search to somehow save and return her husband

After all this, the first thing we see in the present is how stupidly Misako and Lloyd met each other after a long separation (but this is a separate topic for which you need to allocate time)

As the adventures continue, Lloyd defeats Garmadon and essentially turns him back. And the next picture we see is how Misako, who LEFT EVERYTHING, even HER CHILD, reacts to her husband's return (answer: NOTHING! she just: "oh, hello, dear, I'm so glad to see you" - it looked like she didn't see him at all a couple of weeks !!!) I understand that the directors did not want to spend a lot of time on the scenes where you need to show the emotions of the characters, but they could have shown it much better, and this is not what we saw!!

After that, we finally see the normal life of Garmadon, etc. Next comes the season where the ninjas go to the tournament and Gramadon is with them, as he knows who is creating all this. Also in the same season, we learn about the letter and why it happened. And then comes the moment when Chen reveals the truth. What should we see when Wu and Misako find out the truth? Well, probably her brother's anger (what we saw was a kind of parody and nothing more), Misako's anger at her husband's lies and in general the way he acted, at least at least some emotions (although maybe she wasn't very angry at him, because she didn't love him only because of this letter, and therefore she can only be angry that he did so badly with his brother, but this moment can easily be covered by the following events)

And precisely when he decides to sacrifice himself. Wu and Misako realize that there is no other way, so they accept Garmadon's choice. He disappears and that's it, he's gone. Lloyd cannot forgive this, he got his father back not so long ago, and less than half a year has passed since he disappeared forever. What is his wife doing at this moment, who, I emphasize again, did so much to get him back - nothing. She just mentions him, says that he is a hero and that's all....it's all stupid and goes on to flirt with Wu

And after all that, I'm supposed to believe that Misako really wanted to save her husband, that she didn't just leave Lloyd?? Phew, guys, it's just some kind of soap opera. Show me at least one woman who would do so much that, as a result, she would forget about everything and go to someone else. This letter is so absurd that if it wasn't there, nothing would have changed, because according to what the directors showed us, she would have left him anyway and gone to Wu (that's why this letter annoys me so much in their relationship)

From one point of view, I understand that sometimes to choose what we need, we need a push, and the letter could be said to be this very element. But don't you mean to tell me that you will choose your partner just because of some stupid letter? if you do not like a person, even if he/she writes 100 letters, it does not guarantee that you will choose him/her right away. The filmmakers showed us that this letter is the only reason why they were together at all (AND IT'S SO ANNOYING AT THE END!! DAMN WHAT THE FUCK). Then their relationship is built on lies and nothing more, but THEN WHY ARE WE TOLD ABOUT HOW MISAKO HAS SUFFERED ALL THESE YEARS!??? AAAAAAAAAAA??? WHY!?

If this was not in the plot, then it would still be possible to understand that all this happened only through a letter (but I repeat, are you ready to marry a person and give birth to a child for the sake of some piece of paper? Hmmm, I think not, it’s not logical)

Therefore, it is reasonable to call their relationship only through a letter in the series, it is not possible, because every moment of Misako's life covers what they wanted to show us as the truth. She could not choose him through a letter and then look for a way out to save him. The directors are so lazy that they did not show us any real emotions and feelings between them. Not the real emotions between Lloyd and Misako after being apart for a long time, not between Misako and Garmadon when he became normal, not how she was upset by his sacrifice, nothing

It's terrible, because it makes you think that Misako was terrible not only as a mother, but also as a wife

this is my opinion on their relationship and how it was shown to us, and honestly I'm ready to write and prove all time that Misako isn't the worst character. Yes, she is not perfect, but there is no reason to hate her. Because precisely because of the laziness of the directors and the inability to combine two things into one, Misako looks like a simply terrible character. At one moment she is shown like this, and at another it is called the opposite, and when all this is combined it looks like a complete absurdity

all this story with the letter, the directors could show us much better and make an intrigue. But they just needed an excuse to show why Misako chose him, and show how Wu and she will find out the truth and thats all. This moment when they learn the truth is so stupid. Less than 5 minutes were allotted for it. And the question arises, and why did you show it to us, it didn't change anything. NOTHING. If we hadn't been told anything about her leaving the Lloyd to find a way to get her husband back, I would probably have thought of her as a bad character like everyone else

Honestly, I was mad when I initially saw it was a Short Mission. It's gonna be a month now since the last regular chapter came out, the plot was moving, my heart skipped at beat at the last double spread, the story was thriving, I could sense a lore drop any minute now. Then we got two short missions. TWO!!! But the newest short mission took me by surprise and now I'm sad about the damn cartoon dog.

Spoilers for the SpyxFamily manga and anime, more as in, characters that appear and not exactly plot stuff, BEWARE!

IT'S A GODDAMN SHORT MISSION, WHY DID YOU SHOW AGAIN THE SAD DOG'S BACKSTORY?!!! ISTG. You know what I was expecting? I was expecting a "funny haha, future seeing dog has a boring day home alone" maybe break some stuff by accident, maybe he goes to the neighbors' for attention, cute, sweet, nothing heavy slice of life chapter. BUT NO, I WAS FOOLED.

Like, most of the Short Missions are just, not that relevant. Like, it is more of a day-to-day life than the manga normally is. As in, last short mission (the chapter before this one) was about Anya sending Lloyd, and WISE, to an early grave with a High-Fashion dress for prom. It was funny, sweet, Anya wanted to help, then Damian messed up again and she wanted revenge, you know, the usual.

Why? Who gave Tatsuya Endo the idea to give Bond MORE flashbacks?!!! Poor dog's been through a lot, the Forgers becoming his safe place is just beautiful. THE WAY HE AND ANYA RESONATE, BECAUSE THEY ARE BOTH SECRET EXPERIMENTATION SURVIVORS!!!!!! Fucking dog making me sad because a big ass Penguin plushy has stiches. Stupid dog making me emotional over fish, FUCKING FISH. I HATE FISH!!!!

SpyxFamily makes me happy and sad. I think it's a great story to show how connections, friends, family, define a person more than what we'd like to imagine. No person is an island, so seeing characters like Nightfall or Franky, doing missions or getting bits of their backstory, makes it feel more real. Having a character like Anya, being capable of reading mind but not truly understanding most of it makes you think about how children navigate the world.

Oh gosh, I could talk about how SpyxFamily shares an anti-war message through its main characters, all of them victims of the war, one way or another. But it won't, 'cause this was supposed to be about the dog having what I'd call panic attacks because he accidentally broke a glass. BUT WE GET TO THE PENGUIN. In case you haven't read the manga (why are you reading this?) or simply forgot, Bond broke Mr Penguin!

It was an act of jealousy, Anya started playing with the plushie more, and he got lonely. So he destroyed it. He might be an oracle dog, but he is still a dog, I don't blame him. And he felt Bad. He made Anya cry. And he felt terrible because he just wanted Anya back and now Anya's crying and he can't undo it (dogs can't sew). In the end they made it better. I don't remember if it was Lloyd, Yoru or the neighbors, it was probably Yoru though, who fixed it. And the Penguin got cool looking stiches and "he and Bond made Peace".

That was nice, UNTIL THIS GODDAMN CHAPTER. I used to wonder if Bond also felt survivor guilt from being the only dog that managed to escape. TURNS OUT HE DOES, THE DOG HAS SURVIVOR'S GUILT FFS!!!! Poor Bond, realized that he inflicted damage to something like him (unable to defend itself, new/young, a play pretend animal and an animal no longer treated as such) and he tried to make it better. I can't change what I did but I want you to feel better, I'm sorry.

I'm overanalyzing here, it's probably Not That Deep. It's a funny haha manga about a family of dangerous people who end up loving each other by accident. But sometimes it's about Lloyd burying himself in a nameless grave by the time he was 18. It's about Yoru sacrificing her innocence for her brother only to do the same for her. It's about Anya needing validation from everyone because if the people in the lab didn't like her they'd get rid of her. It's about Bond feeling lonely and distressed because a vision he got is especially terrible and he is just a Dog.

I read the interview where Tatsuya Endo said he didn't like the characters that much. Maybe not Gege Akutami (you're going dow Gege) levels of hate, but a blunt indifference. And sometimes I find that hard to believe. Maybe he didn't want Anya to be cutesy-dumb-pink-haired little girl, or Lloyd a super-intelligent-spy-ikemen at first, or even now. But I don't think he doesn't like his story, or characters; we wouldn't have the short missions in the first place if that were the case.

All this to say, cartoon dog made me sad, and then happy, because there are better things coming for everyone in the end. Thank you for reading this far! I'd recommend SpyxFamily if you are up to something a tad dramatic, with a happy ending and endearingly funny. (Or if you have issues with your parents and want a bit of escapism, that's also fair)

I am quite bad at recognizing voices, even when I’m familiar with them, which of course is at times an issue in my obsession with audio comedy. I can do it eventually, requiring less time for people with more distinctive voices. But I’m a lot worse at it than most people I know are.

I am currently listening to the Elis James/John Robins radio show (I wish there were an easy portmanteau so I didn’t have to type all that out every time, like Jossell, but to do that here would just make the word jealous, which might be a fitting couple name given their dynamic of John Robins skewering Elis James for crimes such as making money from sitcom acting and getting verified on Twitter, but it would get confusing to try to use that as a name for them regularly), and I got really, embarrassingly far into it – way, way too far into it, before I realized they’ve had comedians calling in disguise on almost every episode I’ve heard. It’s one of the worst voice-based oversights I’ve ever made, missing all those voices until episode 47.

They have this feature called Textual Healing, where each episode, a listener will call in with their problem and John and Elis will offer advice like Agony Uncles. And I did understand, from pretty close to the beginning, that this isn’t a straightforward advice segment. The problems were always really weird, but John and Elis treated them relatively seriously.

At first I didn’t think much about it, just figured that maybe the producers filtered the calls until they found someone with a weird enough problem to be funny. Then I figured the listeners had caught on to this, and some were calling in with fake problems to be funny, and John and Elis were playing along. I continued to believe this until episode 47, when a woman with a really exaggerated Welsh accent called into complain that her cat was classist.

After 46 fucking episodes of me not working out what was going on, they finally tipped their hand, I thought that had to be an actor. It sounded too much like an actor performing a sketch, getting too deeply into character with the weird voice and the verbal tics and the wild problem presented as though it were normal, I did not think some listener was making this up on the fly. Also, I was pretty sure I did recognize the voice but could not, for the life of me, work out from where.

So I went home and Googled it, and it turns out I have been wrong from the very beginning. There’s a spreadsheet online that tells you who the various callers actually are, or at least, who all the callers are that the fans have been able to identify:

Look at that fucking spreadsheet. Everything from before episode 47 is something I heard and did not realize it was anyone besides a listener playing a game. Looking at it again, I’m now pretty sure that none of them were from actual listeners. I think that from the beginning, John Robins and Elis James decided it would be funny to set up a fake listener call-in segment, where they have comedians call in in character, as a parody of real Agony Aunt segments. And I didn’t catch on until episode 47, when Cariad Lloyd overacted just a little too hard. I think the sections of that spreadsheet where the “real identity” is blank are just the sections where no one has successfully identified who they were, maybe they’re non-famous friends of John and Elis.

It all makes sense now, of course. When that one woman called in and I noticed she had the exact same accent as Lucy Beaumont – really, the exact one, and I’ve never heard anyone else with that exact accent before, but I guess I just don’t hear many people from Hull, and this must be some other Hull woman – and she even had quite a Lucy Beaumont-esque problem, of saying she keeps having dreams that then come true. I thought, maybe it’s common for people from Hull to believe in supernatural things, the way Lucy Beaumont does. Obviously, I am now aware that the caller was, in fact, Lucy Beaumont.

When someone who introduced herself as “Isobel from Crystal Palace” called in, and I thought – that’s interesting, because Elis James’ partner Isy Suttie lives in Crystal Palace, her full first name is Isobel and this caller’s accent even sounds a lot like Isy’s – yep, that was Isy Suttie, and actually that barely counts as a disguise, she literally introduced herself with her real name. I… definitely should have got that one. It’s weird that I didn’t get that one. Especially since it was the episode after John’s then-girlfriend, Sara Pascoe, called in as a character named “Sara”.

I think I a bunch of them do this – call in with problems that are in some small way to related to themselves. Like Lucy Beaumont called in as someone with an absurd belief that she has psychic powers, but the real Lucy Beaumont also believes in psychic powers. I’ve just listened to the first of several Tim Key episodes (episode 59), and he has mentioned that one of his problems is related to a reindeer skull. I know Tim Key really did have a reindeer skull in 2015 (when that radio episode aired), because he brought it as a prize on Taskmaster season 1, which aired in the same year.

Looking at this makes me see that it makes sense that I’d initially grouped the Jellis radio show in with Pappy’s Flatshare and Three Bean Salad, on my list of audio comedy things to get to at some point, because clearly those people run in the same circles. All three people from Pappy’s, and all three people from Three Bean Salad, appear on Textual Healing at least once.

That list also contains quite a few people whose voices I know really well, I cannot believe I missed them all. I heard Josie Long and didn’t recognize her! Romesh Ranganathan, who’s got a very distinctive voice. I think I actually did, for the briefest of moments, vaguely think “Oh that sounds a little bit like Ivo Graham,” one time. But not enough to actually realize it was Ivo Graham. I didn’t recognize Matthew Crosby, even though when I listen to the Pappy’s podcast, I always appreciate that I have no trouble picking out Crosby’s voice, since I can’t tell Tom and Ben apart and it would get really confusing if all three sounded the same.

The worst of these by far is I heard Daniel Fucking Kitson and did not realize it was him. Do you know how big a deal that is? I have spent an utterly indefensible number of hours listening to Daniel Kitson talk. I just checked, and I hesitate to even share this information because it’s so over the top, but if I isolate all the audio files in my Daniel Kitson folder and get their combined duration, and then do the same with the video files in there, and add those two durations up, it comes to about 720 hours. And I have listened to every moment of them, within the last couple of years. That number is slightly inflated because it includes both the full versions of his radio shows with the songs still in, and the cut versions with the songs edited out, so some of the content is duplicated. But still.

Also, for the last year I have been an assistant in a similarly over-the-top project to collate all the Kitson radio clips that my friend and I can possibly find, where said friend (the word “assistant” might be too grandiose for me, my friend has done the vast majority of the work and my contributions have consisted of writing down the names of songs while editing them out of some episodes) has uploaded them to a website that I will deny having anything to do with if it ever comes to attention of attention-avoidant man himself, in fact I will deny ever having heard of Daniel Kitson. But the point is that we have scoured the internet for any references to any time in any year that Daniel Kitson may have appeared on any radio station in any form, because this radio archiving project exists to satisfy the relentless completist that runs deep through my entire personality.

And still, despite all that, I heard a new bit of Kitson on the radio – a clip we didn’t even know existed, and I hadn’t just found a reference to it having happened so I could try to track it down, I had the actual clip right there in front of me, and I did not realize it was him. 720 hours were not enough for me to be able to recognize that voice when I heard it out of context. Not even a brief moment spent thinking, “Oh, that sounds like Kitson.” He even called in with a problem that’s slightly thematically related to some stuff that Kitson used to allude to in his stand-up around that time.

I've enjoyed lots of other little cameos by various comedians. They once took a call from Matt Forde once to defend Oasis as the greatest band in history, which furthered my view of Matt Forde as the essence of centrism in every way. They read out texts and Tweets from listeners all the time (genuine listeners, I think, I'm assuming the entire show isn't just a front), and names of people who sent those in have included, at different times, Iain Stirling, Nish Kumar, Pierre Novellie, Gavin Osborn, and Mike Bubbins. But I did not realize that I was hearing other comedians' voices all the time.

Obviously, I need to go back and hear them again, with this new information. I am downloading the episodes that are marked as being an identified comedian in disguise, and going to go through and cut out all the Textual Healing clips so I can put them in a folder. A folder where I clearly mark the episode number and the date and the name of the comedian, because it bothers me that such an archive doesn’t seem to exist already, because it always bothers me when archives with clearly labeled relevant data don’t exist (though I do hugely appreciate whoever created that spreadsheet). Once I finish the folder, I’ll share it on Tumblr in case anyone else would like to hear some comedians call in as various characters.

But in the meantime, I’ve just finished cutting out the first Textual Healing with an identified comedian, on episode 4 – March 9, 2014 – with Sara Pascoe.

Okay, sure, now I get that it’s pretty fucking obvious who that was, when she introduces herself by name Sara, and complains about her boyfriend who’s always playing phone games, and John Robins has talked several times about having an addiction to phone games that’s gone back and forth from low-level quirky to a serious problem throughout his life and ruined his relationship with a previous girlfriend. And when, in those years, Sara Pascoe repeatedly used comedy shows to complain about her relationship with John Robins, with and without his involvement (I’m remembered a particularly awkward episode of her in Dictionary Corner of Catsdown). Yeah, I really should have figured that one out from the beginning.

Then the next episode Isy Suttie calls in with an adorable little story about her and her boyfriend having pet names for things together, which I’d say shows the contrasting personas of the two presenters of the Jellis radio show pretty well.

Ninjago “Reboot” notes (Part 2: characters)

Alright, let’s talk about the characters

So Lloyd is adopted and a normal human. When he was little, his town was destroyed (but we’ll get back to that), and Garmadon happened to be in the area and saved his life. Since Lloyd’s family was dead, and the kid wouldn’t leave him alone, Garmadon just sort of decided to take him in

In the incident, Lloyd’s left side got pretty horribly damaged, and he’s got scars on that side, being blind and deaf on that side, and eventually needing his arm amputated. He’s cool with it though, it happened when he was young and he’s spent far more time without those things than with it

Lloyd does have a mechanical arm, given to him by a friend (whom we’ll also get back to), but he only uses it sometimes, since it’s kind of heavy and he’s just not used to it

Lloyd’s older in this world, being around the same age if not a bit older than the others

Lloyd had a biker phase, and also had a girlfriend who was a biker (this version of Camille), but they broke up and Lloyd eventually grew out of it. They haven’t talked since but if they were to, they’d probably be able to talk amicably, once the awkwardness was out of the way

Lloyd is also fully aware his dad is an Oni, and they actually have a pretty good relationship with each other (especially given they don’t spend super long stretches of time separated from each other)

Also I don’t think I’m gonna give him an elemental weapon, though he does have a staff, since I have a plan for him to get his normal green powers later on

Lloyd also has a fear of white haired ladies, but not old women

Let’s talk about someone else now

Jay is a Serpentine in this au, and was almost definitely adopted (or should I make Ed and Edna Serpentine too? I’m not sure)

Jay wears a wig to cover the fact he has no hair. While he’s fine with being a Serpentine, he wants hair. It’s like this whole thing with him

Jay is still an inventor, and has no problem with the fact that he grew up in a junkyard. Also might be a bit of a hoarder

He sometimes just makes random inventions with no real purpose

Zane is still a robot, and aware he’s a robot, but he also has no memory of who he is. He lives with Jay in his family’s junkyard while Jay tries to repair him (he might have just found him there one day all broken and decided to try and fix him, only to find Zane’s fully sentient)

Cole’s something of the team mom of the group

Also something about Cole, so his family is cursed. Some generations ago, a member of his family went to the Shintaro mountains and fought an evil sorcerer, like in canon, and was a wielder of the Earth weapon, but at the end they (and the rest of their bloodline) got cursed as a final act by the sorcerer, and basically over time it would spread and they’d eventually crumble to rock. And the curse spreads faster after using elemental powers

Cole’s mother ended up dying to the curse (maybe she used the Earth weapon at some point as well, causing her curse to work faster), and since his mother first fell ill to it (well, to the extent it would kill her), Cole’s been looking for a way to cure it

The curse first manifests as something like his lava arms, only black, and it spreads further and further up the arms and then to the rest of the body until it completely envelops and they crumble

Cole is the only one aware of it as he doesn’t tell the others, as he doesn’t want to worry them, and he hides his curse with increasingly longer gloves. The others do get a bit suspicious when they realize just how long they’ve been getting and that they’ve never seen him without them, but he doesn’t tell until it’s relevant in whatever season focuses on it

Also yes, because he uses his Earth powers, his lifespan gets shorter and shorter each time. While currently he’s not in too much danger, if he doesn’t find a cure, he could end up succumbing to it before he’s 30

One thing I had for Kai was the idea of genderswapping him, mostly because ROTTMNT did it with Casey, and I think because there was a female Kai in Pokémon Conquest, but I’m not sure about it

But regardless, Kai thinks he is and tries to be the cool one, but he usually ends up more like a team mom like Cole, having to be the responsible one

At the beginning of the story, he works at Chen’s noodle shop with Skylor as his coworker. They’re friends

Also this Chen probably isn’t a villain, but in the past there was someone more closer to the original show Chen, but we’ll get to that

I don’t really have much on Nya though, other than she’s a lot more chill than her other counterparts and will sometimes prank people

Sorry I don’t remember much on her

Also she and Jay get along very well, but I’m not sure if they get in a romantic relationship 

Pixal is here too, but here she’s a cyborg, whether because of natural health complications or because of a terrible accident, and is also Borg’s biological daughter 

Her real name isn’t Pixal, it’s (I believe) Cynthia Borg, but she likes Pixal more because it sounds cooler

She’s also Samurai X, and is definitely a bit more flashy

Her cybernetics aren’t just “limbs but metal”, as she can do stuff with them, like turn her arms into cannons or swords, or stretch them far. Because of that, Samurai X is largely speculated to be either a robot or cyborg 

Samurai X is already an established thing by the time this show starts, with the ninja showing up after her

Pixal and Lloyd used to be good friends (and she’s the one who gave him his robotic arm), but they had a falling out and are still bitter about it (Lloyd more than Pixal, as he didn’t really have many friends at the time and it stung a lot more for him)

Oh also about the Serpentine thing, so the Serpentine War did happen, but it was centuries ago, and unlike the show, had a peaceful solution as both sides realized they were being manipulated (possibly after Wu and Garmadon stepped in) and got rid of the people responsible, and over time they eventually found peace and both humans and Serpentine live in relative harmony, hence why no one raises an eyebrow at Jay

Morro is also here, but he’s a centuries old ghost. It’s a long story, but basically he was from a farming family that had the golden scythe, but it got stolen and he spent his life trying to get it back, only for him to be turned away and eventually meeting a horrible end, then coming back as a ghost demanding the scythe. But the scythe couldn’t be found so he just wanders the area bringing horrible tempests

Lloyd eventually finds it and gives it back to him, giving him peace and letting him move on, though he tells Lloyd to find a proper successor

Harumi is also here, but she’s kind of two people

“Harumi” is just the name of the girl being inhabited, the character more resembling Harumi being an Oni that Garmadon once fought

Her power was sealed away into the Oni Masks, meanwhile she body snatches people to try and get her power back, while Garmadon tries to stop her when he can

I’m thinking when she body snatches people, she turns their hair white like hers

One of her previous bodies was the one that destroyed Lloyd’s town, since it had one of the masks, but Garmadon was able to stop her and destroy that one. This is what left Lloyd with a fear of white haired women, since he knows she was the one to destroy his village and left him for dead, and that she uses different bodies

She does eventually show up, and this is where Lloyd’s fear is explained. Prior to this it’s just shown as a weird fear of his that isn’t explained

I’m thinking maybe the original Harumi gets saved (though her hair’s still white), but I’m not sure what to do with her afterwards

Also, is she too similar to Lady Bone Demon? That wasn’t my intention but she feels that way

Anyways yeah, next part will be plot. I haven’t finished everything for that, so I don’t know when I’ll post it. But I thought I should talk about the actual characters

Since it’s the end of finals season for me, how does everyone prepare for/deal with finals and what happens afterwards?

Hoo boy

Kai: Augh just the idea of exams/finals is enough to stress him out, let alone having to read and reread stuff that's already been tossed at him. In classes he enjoys he does fine, but in ones he despises...well, we don't talk about it. Once it's all over he starts training extra hard, using the exercise to burn off his built up aggressions (hopefully without burning everything down).

Jay: Is never worried, could take a test blindfolded and not drop below a B. Therefore, unblinded he's practically guaranteed to do pretty well, Is the WORST person to study with however, because he gets too quickly frustrated when people don't get the material right away. Afterwards does NOT want to do anything that involves thinking, which usually means watching movies cuddled up with Nya.

Zane: Is not worried, and holds himself to a rigorous schedule blocked out day by day hour by hour for dedicated studying for each of his particular classes. Is usually joined by Jay as Zane is one of the few people Jay doesn't get instantly aggravated with, and also Cole...

Cole: ...who is far less dedicated at studying but due to being in the same classes as Zane he gets to mooch a little bit. Acts like he's not worried but deep down is terrified of failing. Like Kai, can't just read through information and absorb it, but he does do much better studying via visuals, like graphs and charts and stuff. After finals are over he treats himself to a well-deserved nap.

Nya: Is probably the most level-headed about finals until someone tries to make it a competition with her (usually Zane, and also usually by accident snksnk) and then she turns into a studying fiend. She's popping out from laundry baskets and closets ambushing people into quizzing her (Cole and Kai are most often targeted this way), although it's usually Lloyd or a terrified Jay that get roped into officially studying with her. Always delivers on her grades, however.

Lloyd: Hates studying and hates the idea of finals, but hates the idea of failing even more (due to usually doing so well on his tests while at homeschool). Normally does just fine, but if he struggles during a final (or if a teacher is feeling particularly vengeful towards him with grades), he'll be bummed about it for weeks. Decompresses with comics and maybe a little bit of doing absolutely nothing at all

Jesse: Always panics around finals time. Is the one organizing group study sessions to make sure everyone's on the same page study-wise (which Kai can't STAND lmao)...and also to ensure that Jesse himself isn't missing out on anything. He does wind up spending a little more time getting others up to speed than himself, but does well enough to be proud regardless. Ends up compulsively cooking afterwards to work off his pent-up stress and energy (so everyone's always trying to hang around his house in the days afterward, especially Cole, Lloyd, and Antonia)

Miranda: Organizer QUEEN. Has her exams mapped out and planned for. Has her brother's stuff all sorted and ready to go. Has the kid from three halls down’s notes primed and ready if he asks. Her study area is a mess of notecards, sticky notes, pens, handwritten notes, a database of info...needless to say she does well on everything, and treats herself to a video game marathon afterwards (in which Jay and Lloyd are usually game to join in on.)

Antonia: She's the one everyone borrows their notes from, and as she takes such insanely amazing notes, she rarely has to put too much energy into studying. She's got the material down first-go like Jay...but, only in classes she enjoys. Like Kai, her grades are a 50/50 split between really good and less than stellar, but rarely does bad enough to be worried. Treats herself to snacks afterwards.

Harumi: A big "read it again" studier, but doesn't put in more effort than she has to. Not particularly worried about it, just vibes and makes fun of those getting way too worked up about it. Does well enough to pass, but whether or not it's with flying color or not varies. Likes going out on the town and doing something with friends once finals are over.

Olivia: Finals normally wouldn't faze her, unless she's got a Shark Army agenda going on at the same time, and then things get a little stressful. Rarely ever gets to study (or wants to), but if she does it's gotta be with another person (Nya, usually) to keep her on track. Indifferent on her grades, but will be pleasantly surprised if she does manage to do well. Throws a huge party at the Shark Lair afterwards; most of the Shark Army has no idea why they're celebrating but they're never gonna turn down an opportunity to party! (of which Bridget...absolutely...HATES...)

And bonus Sunni because why not: Never too worried about finals, but puts much more energy into keeping everyone else's spirits up. She's not a cram studier, preferring to pace herself and take in info bit by bit so it registers easier, and studies with Samantha often (even if Samantha gets distracted). She's also tutored by Meghan (which isn't bad, but she'd much rather be tutored by Jay), and when it's all over she treats herself and her friends to some baked sweets (but don't tell Harumi, Jesse, or Zane that they're store bought).

Tracking down the “High Stakes Narrative” feature of conflict-filled 3-act.

This turned out to be trickier than I thought. I thought I would outline why.

What I forgot about when I was listening to “You’re Wrong About” podcast was how paranoid people became in the 1970′s. There was the push towards sellable domesticity, like Martha Stewart, there was the whole, “Satanic Panic”. And there was a F3AR of pornography, centered around Deep Throat. And there was the anti-drug campaigns at the same time.

Given the atmosphere after the 1960′s, to push back specifically from the same adults on the 1960′s, this is my best guess for when the high stakes comes in. You see, Syd Field didn’t put in a high stakes narrative because his model for his story structure is flat. It’s a flat line. The peaks and mountains is Kenneth Rowe stealing from two other people from them and not giving them credit.

So it’s a question of who bred the two models together and didn’t give the proper credit? It has to be in the 1980′s where the attributions went sideways.

Bertolt Brecht probably passed everyone’s notice within his lifetime, but his son was a theater critic in the US. Brecht was a poet, critic, and author of novels, so you can see it traveled. He was also against what he saw as Aristolean theater.

Brecht argued for a character low--the worst thing that could happen to the character happens to them. I should note in the 2000′s this lost favor. But from what I’ve read, the “High stakes” coining doesn’t come from Brecht, but it is one more puzzle piece on the way to Brecht. And this only became popular in the 1980′s after importation and maybe with the help of his son.

To me, that’s wild.

So if you’re following along, Freytag creates his pyramid with the story driver being emotion-->1921, Percy Lubbock argues for conflict narrative (and also Death of the Author)-->Kenneth Rowe plagiarizes works (Selden Lincoln Whitcomb and Joseph Joseph Berg Esenwein) that go against Percy Lubbock’s writings to argue in favor of Percy Lubbock to put down Gertrude Stein-->Lajos Egri, who refuted Rowe’s understanding of Shakespeare in the equivalent of a subtweet and added character analysis by psychology in there-->This leads to Syd Field, who creates the three-act, but there is no mention of high stakes narrative with the worst thing ever happening to the character in his work or the inciting incident.-->The coming of French Critics in the 1970′s-1980′s, Roland Barthes, Vladimir Propp, Joseph Campbell, and Northrop Frye. Michel Foucault and Jacques Derrida.--> Bertolt Brecht then got folded in, which I kind of think is an irony, since he hated Aristotle, but then all of this is attributed later to Aristotle. TT 

Don’t you feel bad yet? Some people who don’t want to be here, are folded to be here Whitcomb, especially. I rather liked his nuanced look at novels, and out of everyone mentioned I kinda like him the most.

So we’re missing two figures: High Stakes Narrative (likely white male, considering how thing are going.) and the “inciting incident” coining. (I read the French philosophers and they aren’t it.) And Syd Field isn’t our person. The dregs of it are around, but not named. I do think it’s likely either Brecht (Whom I haven’t gotten to read in full yet) or some other script maker.

Oh and I found out that Ben Jonson likely compiled the First Folio for William Shakespeare. He makes the dedication in the front of the Folio for him. He’s also a likely candidate (no, not to be William Shakespeare), but to have imposed the act structure on the plays. The circumstantial evidence is there. He had a poor understanding of Latin and Greek languages, loved the classics, translated them POORLY (Most famously Horace, but also other Greek plays.) and had a HUGE ego. I mean the man wrote a play that got him jailed and didn’t care and still continued to write raunchy plays. He insisted that his name be spelled Ben Jonson without the H in his lifetime to be pedantic, even though his father spelled it with the h. The man had ego to spare. And he made the dedication in the front of the Folio. Since he loved Greek plays and the classics, I think he’s likely the one that reformatted Shakespeare’s plays to the Five Act structure, which only became popular after Shakespeare’s death. (If we’re establishing, from a bad translation of Aelius Donatus.) I think we need to put him in consideration for structuring the plays like that. And yes, I do have the counter story of what was happening with women and minorities during the same time period with story structure. Mostly they followed Virginia Woolf’s example with saying it can’t be described and might be individual.

Atelier Frixi 2

I got up early and decided to try a bit more alchemy, I did everything the same as yesterday till the final stir. -Knock knock- I almost took my eyes off the cauldron but then I remembered Lloyd telling me too concentrate. I focused on the last few stirs....get these properties of the item and YES I did it. This medicine should help cure any of Nina's future battle wounds. (???) "Impressive, I guess my theory about you being an alchemist was correct!". I turned around and it was that guy from yesterday.....(Frixi) "Hey um..thanks again....why are you here?". I was kind of scared he mentioned what happened with the monster to Lloyd. (???) "I was visiting the blacksmith's and I was told an alchemist lived here. My name is Azure and I would like you to make me some metal like this!". He took out an ingot....ugh I guess I could make something like this. (Frixi) "I can try but do you have an idea as to where I can find the materials?". He then took out a bag and put it on the table....hmm these look like they would help.

(Azure) "Feel free to keep any materials you don't use for my request, I am simply in a rush to fix a weapon!". (Frixi) "Thank you very much sir" I looked through my recipe books for the ingot. Luckily it was a basic one....I stirred at a bunch of different speeds and tested out different liquids. I even tried making some other items to use as a material....I made about 10 ingots! "Um are any of these too your liking?" he picked up each one and weighed them in his hand! I was a bit anxious....(Azure) "I will take this one, the rest are pretty good though here is the payment". (Frixi) "Thank you very much sir" he then walked out....hmm he said they were all good. I wonder if I could get my brother to make a sword for Nina...after all a new sword could be what she needs. After a bit of lunch I decided to go over to my brothers work place....the group that went to the woods after us yesterday had carried the monsters body back! They were loading it onto a ship.....I guess transporting meat.

I went to my brothers place, (Frixi) "Hey um Lloyd could you make me a sword with this ingot?". He then checked it, (Lloyd) "Sure but I can't do it for free sis as we need to make a profit here!". I then paid him most of the money I got for Azure's ingot, "Hmm what type of sword you after?" (Frixi) "Well one like Nina's I think an updated weapon may help her training". He then started working on the sword and told me it would be ready by tomorrow. So I decided to go back home but then I saw a scene....(Nina) "Don't act innocent I know you put all the other monsters to sleep! If they were awake we wouldn't of had to use the bomb to try and wake them up". (Azure) "You make a good point I guess, just consider it me showing you how dangerous things are for rookie's like you". Oh boy....I could sense Nina's anger building up and then (Nina) "I have been training for years....I bet I could easily beat you one on one". (Azure) "Maybe, how about you go take down a Grandhog like I did yesterday if you wanna prove you are tough".

He then started boarding a ship....it was the same one as those guy's from before, I guess they were working together! (Nina) "Fine I will go and kill a Grandhog as well...". She then stormed off and bumped into me "Oh hey Frixi did you see that?". (Frixi) "Yeah I guess you are as stubborn as always!" she sighed and agreed with me. (Nina) "Hey um Frixi will you help me take down one of those monsters?" ugh I knew she was gonna ask me to help. (Frixi) "Fine but let's wait till tomorrow I asked Lloyd to make a new sword for you and it will give me time to make some items to help us!". (Nina) "Aw thanks Frixi you are the best" I made my way home....when I got back I stared at my staff and wondered if I should get a better one made too. I still had plenty of ingots left over...hmm there was this one other recipe though that may help out. After I spent a couple hours of alchemising I felt exhausted and called it a day, I need to make sure I was ready for tomorrow.

talking abt my lloyd-harumi roleswap AU because i'm Going To EXPLODE

basic gist: harumi is the green ninja. lloyd is the quiet one AND still the son of bad guy lord garmadon. they both have so many goddamn parental issues

in which i ramble about the entire backstory of this AU, because I have thought about the logistics of it entirely too much.

tldr harumi and lloyd both get as many trust and abandonment issues as i can heap on them

gonna be upfront i saw One Fic with this premise and it cracked my skull open but the fic didnt do it how i wanted to do it so i'm doing it myself. alrighty

For s1 set-up:

Harumi is still an orphan, bcuz of course she is. But instead of the great devourer, her parents die pre-series bcuz of skulkin. She ends up having Very Mixed Feelings abt garmadon, who took over leadership of the skulkin after they killed her parents. She ends up distracting herself from grief through exploring myths, eventually finding her way to the tomb of the anacondrai.

.....where she meets pythor.

Pythor doesn't have a convenient map of the tombs on hand, so he sticks by little Harumi to find all of them and Get His Revenge. He ends up playing the best friend act as per canon, but the two cause much less trouble than Lloyd, and go under the Ninja's radar for much longer.

Harumi, as a little kid who just lost her parents, is delighted at having a cool snake friend, so of course she'll go around freeing the Serpentine with him! If he's so nice, the others must be too, right?

I think it would be very funny if swap!Harumi gets trust issues because of betrayal.

Obviously, once enough Serpentine are free and Harumi has fulfilled her use, Pythor ditches her. Harumi is disraught. The Ninja witness this live, and decide to take her in for the time being

She is, understandably, very suspicious of them. Pythor just ditched her, after all. It's only once she gets kidnapped again and Kai rescues her from the volcano that she opens up to them, a little bit.

Noooot much to say from her side of the plot for the rest of s1/2. It mainly plays out like normal, except the Harumi v Garmadon conflict is a tad less emotional. However, Garmadon still really misses Lloyd, and Harumi has the same hair color, so he maybe... develops a bit of a soft spot for the kid. Even if just enough to sabotage instead of do away with her.

(I have a Lot of thoughts on the Harumi-Garmadon dynamic for this AU.)

In the meantime: Lloyd still gets kicked out from Darkley's. He's wandering about, but decides to go for more quiet approaches when stealing candy. Really, shoplifting is way faster.

In short, the Ninja just plain don't know he's around.

Everything's fine for Lloyd, really! Until the great devourer eats the building he was staying at with all his supplies inside, and now he's got only the clothes on his back, and there's so many homeless people now that the government does something about them?

Well, if pretending the great devourer ate his parents will net him three square meals a day, Lloyd's not saying no.....

Except. Garmadon defeated the great devourer. Garmadon's back from banishment! His dad's back! The one he's been waiting for for so long... so why does his dad go off to do evil instead of searching for his son?

Garmadon still cares about Lloyd, but Lloyd doesn't know that. Lloyd thinks he's been abandoned.

For the entire duration of this AU's s2, Garmadon is too preoccupied dealing with that green ninja to care about Lloyd, or so Lloyd thinks. He thinks she's stolen Garmadon from him, essentially.

So, screw it, Lloyd decides. When the freaking imperial family wants to adopt him, Lloyd says yes. If Garmadon still really cares about Lloyd, Garmadon come and find him!

...

And that's where we get to one of my favorite bits: Sensei Garmadon.

After the final defeat of the Overlord through Zane's sacrifice, Garmadon finally has time to think about what he wants to do. He asks Harumi if she'd like to search for his son with him. She agrees.

(The two get to bond a lot on in s3, and maybe Harumi has accepted him into her heart. And maybe Garmadon told her Lloyd would surely love to have a sister as amazing as she.)

Except, when the two search for Lloyd, he's nowhere to be found. With Misako's information, the two go to Darkley's, but he's not there. Expelled a year ago, the teacher said.

(The imperial family is very private, remember? And after his frustrations with Garmadon in s2, Lloyd hasn't exactly been going around telling people his surname....)

The two try to track him down through witness accounts and whatnot, eventually finding his last known whereabouts: an abandoned building destroyed in the attack of the great devourer.

There's an easy conclusion to make here.

Garmadon is inconsolable, and Harumi tries to stay positive, that maybe Lloyd survived, but, well... She doesn't really believe it either. She's never been much of an optimist, after Pythor.

and then s4 rolls around, so neither of them have time to think about it more. And then Garmadon is gone, and Harumi is alone again.

So when Harumi meets the imperial prince, she thinks it's a funny coincidence. How many Lloyds are there out there? And he does remind Harumi of all the tales she's heard of Garmadon's son but... surely not. That would be too good to be true. It's just her being stupid hopeful again, and she's had enough disappointment.

And Lloyd, well, he wants to get his father back from the girl who's "stolen" him, by any means necessary.
