On September 16, 1932: British actress Peg Entwistle climbed to the top of the “H” of the Hollywood sign and jumped. Her suicide note, recovered two days later read as follows:

“I am afraid, I am a coward. I am sorry for everything. If I had done this a long time ago, it would have saved a lot of pain. P.E.”

Despite being well renowned on the stages of Broadway during the 20s, she tried to make it in the moving picture business, but unfortunately failed. She tried to go back home to New York but did not have the money to. She was only 24 years old. Her death was widely renowned and was a key element showing the gnawing effects of the film industry.

Her unfortunate loss was a motivation that prompted writer F. Scott Fitzgerald to write his short story entitled “I’d Die For You.”
