Maycury Week 2022

Monday

Here they are, sitting next to the statue of Freddie in Roger’s garden, gazing at the stars. Roger lets out some jokes about them sitting next to a Mercury and still looking for another Mercury in the sky. Brian rolls his eyes and waves teasingly, and in one quick move he makes a "limp wrist" gesture.

All of a sudden, everything became quiet.

Noticing the strangeness, Brian looks to the side and sees Roger looking at him, an unspoken melancholy stirring in his eyes. Then Roger looks away. Ah, the limp wrist, he thought to himself after he realised that Roger still remembers…

Brian used to do the gesture to tease Freddie when he was alive.

The truth is that he didn't do it on purpose in the first place; he just unconsciously mirrored Freddie's gestures. But that didn't bother him, so he was fine with it (despite knowing that gestures are usually only done by gay people and he's not gay). One day Freddie saw him do it and thought Brian was teasing him, so later on sometimes Brian actually did it on purpose just to tease Freddie. He always laughed when Brian did that. "Mischievous Maggie May, aren't you?" Freddie once replied.

God, why does every memory of him already seem like it happened a lifetime ago?

To lighten the mood (and dear Freddie certainly doesn't want the two of them to be sad on his birthday either), Brian looks up at the large statue, chuckles, and then says aloud, "I’m sorry, I think this," he does the limp wrist again, "was actually yours, innit, darling?"

"Yet Hutton said Freddie and I were soulmates when you two existed!" Roger laughed, and the gloom vanished.

"What?"

"You and Freddie always mirror each other. Bloody hell, not only gestures, but also behaviour as well!" and they laugh along.

Then Brian sighed as if in nostalgia. "That grand old soulmate thing, you know what they say—soulmates are actually a soul split into two bodies."

He pauses. 

Funny enough, 

Freddie actually called me his soul brother.

I tried to put all the prompts together and the result is a short animation & a drabble (100+ words but we still consider it a drabble). I wrote it last week but I was busy so I couldn't draw and hence a day late. The animation effect is a bit rough (who am I kidding, very rough) because it's my first time trying something like animation, but I like the last drawing.

"If we can find a place we actually belong, where we're at peace, who's to deny us?"

I really wanted to make something new with my Witches×Monsters AU (that you can read here!) and I thought this was a perfect occasion to explore Brian and Freddie's bond in this story. If you thought I forgot about this AU you're wrong, and I hope to be able to create more content for it soon 🥺💕 I loved drawing this and I'm incredibly happy with the result!

I wrote a lil drabble under the cut, nothing new if you know this AU but I feel it's a nice extra 🥰 It’s set when the boys are already at the Witches’ cottage, a safe place where all of them can be themselves and practice magic without Hunters around, but Brian still needs a boost to his confidence and some reassuring words.

Brian had just woken up, the Sun almost setting on the horizon before leaving space to the Moon and the darkness she carried with her. It was a bit early for him, but Chrissie was already cooking and the broth’s scent filled Brian's nostrils, though it wasn't enough to lighten his mood.

He sat on a bench in the garden, admiring the setting Sun, and missing the real warmth of the day. It was another gloomy moment for him, his still heart constantly aching for being a Vampire, a curse imposed on him against his will.

When he walked out the cottage as well, Freddie noticed Brian's dark face and sat next to him. For the past few years he blamed himself for Mary's attack against Brian, her choice of turning him into a vampire and not Freddie; she was Freddie's friend, but that was a betrayal and he put a hex on her to keep her afar, and yet he still felt it was his fault if Brian was now cursed. But it wasn't the only reason for his care about Brian, his friendship was genuine since when Bri was still a human.

"Hey, Bri."

Brian's red eyes glowed in the sunset, warm and kind despite the color, and Freddie smiled.

"Freddie." He nodded, his curls bouncing. "Sorry, it seems today I'm missing the Sun and the brightness of the daylight."

"You know you don't have to excuse yourself with me, darling." Freddie nudged his arm and Bri gave him a sheepish smile, his pointy canines poking out his lips. "What else is troubling you?"

"I... I don't know, I feel getting blood from Chrissie as well is unfair, she and the other girls are sheltering us and I'd want to help instead of making her weaker." He murmured, aware that he needed blood to survive and that Freddie and Chrissie were offering their blood to drink every once in a while, when the animal prey caught by the Werewolves weren’t enough.

Freddie shook his head, acknowledging Brian’s troubles. "I saw her, she's doing well! But... if you want to help, just go inside and give her a hand with the dinner!" He suggested. More than often Brian needed a distraction to his own thoughts, let it be music, astronomy, or -more recently- Chrissie herself.

"Freddie?" The Vampire stretched his skinny arms.

"Yes?"

"Do you think I'll be useful to the group one day? John and Roger are skilled and powerful Werewolves, you and the girls are amazing Witches... and I'm just a sad Vampire." He moped, earning a patient eye roll from Freddie, framed by a thick line of kohl. 

"You're not just a sad Vampire, Brian!" The Witch placed a friendly hand on his back in a soothing gesture. "You're our friend and I love you no matter what!"

Freddie inflated his hairy chest, doing everything he could to boost his best friend’s confidence, being earnest about his feelings and just letting him know that he was there, as always, a steady point in their lives. 

"You're intelligent and have a heart of gold, Brian, and I'm sure one day you'll be able to master all your Vampire powers and turn your sorrow into art, as we all do. And it'll be brighter than everyone's, I tell you!" He gave Brian a huge bright smile, showing his teeth he was usually so shy about, and a small light started glowing in Brian’s still heart.

"Do you really believe it, Freddie?"

"Absolutely. Look into my eyes, Bri. You can do anything! And if you have any doubt or fear... we're all here for you."

Okay guys please hear me out! You may have already noticed that there's no maycury week for this year cause most of the organizers are busy atm which is really understandable. So I thought to do something about it cause nomatter what we can't just let it go right? Sure the dates are already gone but we can come up with new ones right? Top 5 cute Maycury headcanons, go!

Platonic or romantic? I'll be self-indulgent and do both.

Platonic:

Brian had his own special seat at the Garden Lodge dinner table in the late 80s because he was there so often. And Freddie would call it 'Maggie's Spot' 🥺

Brian has definitely told Freddie, "But I love your smile, Fred," at least once, and seeing Freddie hide it made his stomach hurt.

I can picture them having so much fun picking out their matching outfits for the Magic tour. I can also imagine Roger and John finding it a bit silly, but Freddie and Brian would insist on being color-coordinated.

Freddie was so relieved when Brian stopped straightening his hair, and Brian was lowkey devastated when Freddie cut his short. He loved the soft 70s look.

I can't help but feel like they had "instinctive" knowledge about each other that no one else was privy to. They were just so connected. They knew the depths of each other's heartbreak, and they knew little ways to make each other feel seen. Brian knew Freddie in a way that others didn't, and vice versa.

Romantic:

Brian buys flowers for Freddie every week. Freddie is a more spontaneous gift buyer. Sometimes, he'll show up with five different trinkets at once because he just can't help himself.

In the modern day, they'd be the celeb couple that people watch and go, "God, them? How does that work?" But they'd turn into a mysterious, private it-couple.

They'd have a cozy vacation home in Southern Europe or Japan where they can be for several weeks at a time just to get out of the limelight and focus on their relationship. Most of the time would be spent in bed, but they do manage to write some sappy love songs.

They rescue an abandoned kitten, and it instantly is like a baby to them. They're worried sick, staying up all night.

Cuddling is a must and a near-constant for them. They even cuddle when they're mad at each other sometimes. It keeps them both calm.

After not having published any fics for months, I started writing a new Maycury fic. The Queen + Adam Lambert concert in Berlin last week just gave me such a surge of inspiration.

Theres still time for other Queen events to be added to the calendar! Eg the rare pair event and froger event, and fem Queen event were announced later in the year than january. The fandom is still there even though its quieter!

It's definitely quieter, and I don't know, I definitely remember like Jimercury Week and Maycury Week being announced pretty early on. I think Maycury Week in particular was a more set, annual thing, but did people even do it last year?

Kudos to people who are still creating, no shade there whatsoever, but the fandom is just a different place now

Announcing Maycury Week 2022

It's Brian's birthday again and this time he's turning 75! 35 he's totally turning 35, really. We love him very much here, and so it's time to give him the very best we can imagine - meaning Freddie of course!

Maycury Week this year will run from Freddie's birthday, Sept 5 - Sept 11. We've prepared four prompts for each day: a quote, an AU, a situation, and a song.

Rules! It's Maycury Week, so the central pairing should be Freddie and Brian, whether you want that to be Platonic or Romantic. No word count requirements, poetry music and imagery are as welcome as stories, and the prompts are only for inspiration - if you have an idea that doesn't match any prompt, we will be thrilled to see that too!

There will be a collection on AO3 which will go live the weekend before, as well as a round up of Tumblr posts at the end. Please tag everything “#Maycury Week 2022” so we can find it.

Okay I need to rant I'm working on Maycury week and I shared a section of my story with my discord group. And I did animal detectives. Remember Brian and Freddie aren't human in this. She complained because I didn't make them girls!

I’m sure it’s a brilliant idea anon, and you should publish it nonetheless. I don’t know who complained from your group, but it’s your story, so you should write it.
