The Carry On - (1/5)
Pairings: mob!bucky x fem!reader
A/N: This is the series that is inspired by the oneshot I wrote like two weeks ago. This took me forever and is gonna be the long, crappy, filler part of the series but the rest with be much better and I wrote part two first because I’m a doof. I’ve also been in a film noir, gangster/Tarantino mood so als inspired by them. Alrighty enjoy!
Masterlist
Warnings: swearing, mentions of smut, no actual smut because I’m a TEASE, mentions of torture and violence.

The Carry On - mini series part one.
You sighed as you picked at the sleeve of your shirt. Waiting for Bucky was taking forever and he was already late. You were supposed to be picking out the invitations to your wedding today, before you met him for dinner. You had done most of the planning yourself considering his demanding work arrangements, which wasn’t his fault entirely. But being one of the city’s biggest Mob Bosses, half of the blame lands on him because he causes half the trouble. This was supposed to be one of the few things you’d choose together.
Looking at your phone again, you sigh before getting up.
“Leaving?” The woman at the counter asks. She’s been watching you wait for your fiancé for the last 40 minutes.
“Yep.” You approach the counter and look down at the many examples she had laid out before. Your eyes scanned over them before pointing to a grey background with white patterns in the corners. “That one.”
She nodded her head before collecting the rest of the examples. “We will have ready as soon as we can, Ms June.”
You huffed before turning to the door. “Take your time.” You called back before leaving the store.
Sam, who was assigned to be by your side whenever you went out, noticed you leave and pushed off the wall he was leaning on and ran after you.
“June!” He called out, catching up to you. “You’re leaving already?”
“Yep.” You said without care.
“But Bucky said he’d leave soon.” Sam raised his eyebrow, looking at his phone.
“Then you can tell him I’m going home now and I’ll meet him at dinner.” You informed him. “Or I can tell him myself. I’m done waiting.”
“No I’ll tell him.” Sam assures you before typing away at his phone.
You continued to walk down the small street of stores to the car as Sam received a message back from Bucky.
“He’s not happy.” Sam told you.
“I’ll deal with him.” You said before you reached the car.
Sam moves in front of you to open the door for you.
“Whatever you say, boss.” Sam smirked at you as you stepped into the car. As Sam shut the door and walked around to the drivers seat, your phone pinged with a message from Bucky.
B: Sorry baby doll
You rolled your eyes, sighed and shoved your phone in your bag. This has happened many times already, someone had him caught up at the office or the warehouse. You didn’t mind him working, you just wished he’d stop making promises he couldn’t keep.
Tumblr media
Bucky stared at the message he sent, hoping you’d reply. He knows he messed up by missing another part of the wedding planning. Really he didn’t care if he had a say in the wedding planning at all. He wanted to see what you created, see you happy with things you liked surrounding you, in the prettiest dress you picked. He didn’t care if you even had a wedding at all, all he wanted was you to be his wife.
He proposed fairly early into your relationship, because he immediately knew that you were the one. You turned a blind eye to his malicious work ways and his alliances, the amount of men that come and go through the house. You’d said you always loved some company, even with just the house staff. You felt safer knowing you weren’t alone.
He also loved the way you shuddered underneath him and the way you circled your hips on top of him when he brought you release again and again.
A pained groan brought Bucky out of his mind.
“C’mon, Zemo.” Bucky sighed in frustration and shoved his phone in his pant pocket and turned to the man tied up in the chair. “Haven’t we gone at this long enough? I have a date with my future wife.”
Zemo huffed, his head that hung low bounced as he coughed out the blood that had pooled in his mouth from the punches Steve had landed in his face. Steve stood behind him wiping the blood from his knuckles.
“The days are long.” Zemo croaked out. “How many punches you got in you?”
Steve threw down the paper towel and gripped Zemo’s hair, yanking his head back by his scalp. “How many do you think you can take?” He growled in Zemo’s face.
“As many as you can give.” Zemo spat, some blood landing in Steve’s face.
Steve flinched and closed his eyes. Bucky watched as Steve slowly stood and wiped a hand down his face. Steve moves to punch Zemo in the face again but Bucky grabbed his arms.
“Woah, there buddy.” He pulled the handkerchief out of his breast pocket and handed it to Steve. “Take a break.”
Steve scoffed, snatching the handkerchief from Bucky and walking away.
“Now you’ve pissed my friend off.” Bucky leaned down to look Zemo in the eye. “Which is why I’m giving you one more chance.” Bucky raised a finger. “Now I’m not gonna pluck out any of you teeth or anything because we’ve been here way too long now. You just need to tell me the names of the people who robbed my cartel tell last week, or you stay here to sleep in the cold winters night of this nice, lovely, metal scaffolding warehouse of mine, where you’ll probably freeze to death.”
Zemo glared at Bucky’s face. His mouth clamped shut.
To his silence, Bucky clicked his tongue and shook his head. Turning on the balls of his feet, he gestured to Steve that they were done.
“Sleep tight, Zemo.” Bucky said carefree as he waltz towards the door. “Oh. And feel free to scream for help. Nobody can hear you.” Bucky winked at the tied man before stepped out and sliding the massive door shut.
Steve stood next to him and locked the warehouse door.
“That bastard.” Steve muttered.
“You know, maybe you should stick to be the good guy, bad guy Steve kinda scares me.” Bucky said to his best friend as they walked towards their cars.
“Yep, you go back to being bad guy.” Steve loosens his tie and wipes a hand over his face. “They all just spit on me.”
As they approached the cars, some of their men stepped out with guns and full uniform.
“I knew you were never gonna let him sit here by himself.” Steve chuckled as he watch Bucky’s men take point around the left side of the warehouse.
“Fuck no.” Bucky huffed, crossing his arms and he watched Steves men take point of the right side of the warehouse. “I’ll also knew you would never, either.”
Steve nodded, and smirked. He also crossed his arms and watched. “I also have men in the grass around this area.”
“Nice.” Bucky tapped him on the shoulder.
They had been best friends since childhood and nothing stopped them from becoming the kings of the city’s together. Their own businesses, own men and a shared alliance with Tony Stark, Thor Odinson and his half brother Loki who he shares a business with and T’Challa. They keep the peace with each other and work together with the others to try to keep business between them private. But recently, all five businesses men have had their cartel movements infiltrated and had finally caught one of the men involved with it. They also have suspect that an old partner of Tony’s, Brock Rumlow is involved too but they haven’t been able to catch him.
Bucky sighed before checking his watch. “Shit.” He hisses. “I have to get ready to pick up my lady.” Bucky stated as he walked around the car.
Steve rolled his eyes at the mention of you.
“Oh yeah, can’t forget about her.” He said dryly.
“Oh stop. I didn’t pick on you when you married Peggy.” Bucky eyed his friend.
“Yeah, because we had known Peggy for years.” Steve defended his wife.
“And you love her, right?” Bucky asked opening his car door.
Steve have him a ‘duh’ look.
“Well I’m in love with June, Stevie. I can’t help it.” Bucky said, sitting in the driver seat and turning on the engine, rolling down the windows to see Steve bending down to look at him with his brow raised.
“You barely know her.” Steve said with a dull tone.
“I’ve actually gotten to know her very. Inside and out.” Bucky winked at Steve.
Steve groaned in disgust. “Get out of here you maniac.”
“Bon voyage, my friend.” Bucky waved before driving off.

You had just finished putting on your dress, with the help of Rita, Bucky’s longtime General housemaid. After you shimmied into a body suit to tighten your body under your dress, she helped you climb into a classy form fitting black dress and fix up your make-up.
When you finished getting all your stuff together, Rita informed you that Bucky was here.
You trudged your way out of the bedroom and stopped at the top of the stairs, seeing Bucky looking up at you from the living room with wild flowers in his hand. You, still vaguely annoyed at him, gave him a look with a hand on your hip.
Bucky smiled sheepishly. “You’re beautiful.”
“Uh huh.” You responded.
“I’m a lucky man.” He tried again.
“I’m sure.”
Bucky sighed at your short answers to him.
“I’m sorry, okay?” Bucky looked up at you with puppy eyes. “I really wanted to be there but I got caught up. We got closer to the people who have been stealing our shit and this guy just would not give up and...” He trailed off as you have him an unimpressed look.
“Babe, it was just the invitations.” He tried to reason. “I can help you pick out the cake?”
“I did that last week.” You said, finally giving it to him. “And it’s not about the invitations Buck, it’s the fact that you promised me that you would be there. That maybe this was something that we could do together besides actually getting married. Or will I have to do that by myself too?”
“Of course not, baby doll.” Bucky’s eyes were now sad. He didn’t realise how much you wanted his input on this wedding.
As you saw his eyes, you felt a little pang if guilt in your chest. He does work hard to keep you safe in the house and he does pay for everything. He doesn’t treat you bad or insult you. And when he is home, you’re like his goddess.
You huffed before stomping down the steps towards him. He watched as the annoyed scowl on your face twisted into one of confliction. You walked up to him and looked him in his gorgeous baby blue eyes.
He offered you the wild flowers, giving you the biggest set of puppy eyes you’ve ever seen.
“I don’t want to be a brat.” You said, taking the flowers.
“You’re not babe. You’re right.” He rubbed your arms. “I keep making promises I can’t keep. I knew I wasn’t going to make it.”
“Sam said you were gonna be pissed when I left.” You looked at your feet.
“Yeah at myself.” He put a finger under your chin and gently lifted your face to look at him. “I’m sorry baby.”
He pouted before leaning in slowly and capturing your lips in a gentle kiss.
“I’m still annoyed.” You said after pulling away. “No matter how guilty I feel, I can still be annoyed at you.” You pointed at him with the flowers before moving to the kitchen to put the flowers in water.
Bucky smirked as he watched you. “That’s why I brought you something else.”
You pushed open the kitchen door to see a little, grey Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy sitting patiently on the floor, it’s tail wagging at the sight of a human.
You froze and gasped. The little puppy dropped its head and shuffled its way towards your feet.
Carefully you bent down and the puppy crawled into your hands and you lifted it to your chest. You turned back to Bucky who had a hopeful smile on his face.
“Oh my gosh.” You said with wife eyes and the puppy nuzzled under your chin.
“Do you like him?” Bucky asked with his hands behind his back.
“I love him.” You kissed the puppy on the head, earning little licks in return.
“I thought he would ease your your hostility against me for a little while.” Bucky joked and you frowned at him.
“You can’t buy me a puppy every time you annoy me.” You said and scratched the puppy behind the ear.
“Of course not.” Bucky chuckled. “We’d have a full house.”
You smooched the puppy as Bucky stepped forward.
“Am I forgiven?” He gives you the puppy eyes again.
“Hmm.” You pretend to think. “Sure.” You give him a smile.
Bucky’s face brightens and he leans forward to capture your lips again.
~
After finally trusting Rita to look after the puppy and separating you from him, Bucky drove you to a quiet area of town and led you to an empty restaurant.
You frowned as you got out of the car. “This is dinner?”
“Yep.” Bucky smiled brightly.
The restaurant looked extremely fancy, and even with your dress and heels, you felt under-dressed.
“There’s no one in there.” You said, taking his arm as he offered it to you.
“I know. I booked the entire night to ourselves.” Bucky grasped your hand and kissed your fingers. “We have nothing but time.”
Bucky opened the door for you to reveal a dimly lit dining room, a massive fish tank lining the wall filled with different types of gold fish, and only one table with two chairs. Faux plants lined the walls and the windows to the restaurant, giving it a homey feel and the air was warm. But you still felt the tiniest bit intimidated.
As soon as you say down, waiters placed a covered dish in front of you, shocking you.
Bucky smirked at your face, confused by the silver cover of the plate.
“I ordered your favourite.” Bucky winked.
You scoffed. “I doubt this place does cheese burgers with extra cheese.” You laughed and placed a napkin on your lap.
Bucky winked again before taking off the cover and making you laugh. Seated on your plate was a neatly made In N Out burger and fries.
“I thought you’d appreciate this more than what this place normally makes.” Bucky’s eyes watched you as you smiled down at your food. “And I hope the Double Double counts as extra cheese.”
You looked at him ridiculously. “Um, no.” You held up a finger, ready to educate him. “It has two slices of cheese with two patties. It’s evened, not extra.”
“Alright, alright.” Bucky laughed and held his hands in surrender. “Enjoy your food.”
You pushed back the sleeves of your dress and your hair out of your face while muttering. “Don’t mind if I do.”
Bucky admired the way you visibly relaxed. He was going to take you to the formal dinner that Tony was hosting to discuss the recent events in business. But considering so much he has missed with you, he decided to take you somewhere where just you and him could enjoy yourselves.
You ate your food and enjoyed discussing some of the recent decisions you’d made about the wedding. He approved of every single decision.
“So,” You started after finishing off the burger and picking up a fry. “What’s new in the business?”
Bucky smiled at your interest.
“Well, we caught a guy that had been invading our private sales.” Bucky spoke in code, incase of any rats hanging around.
“You give them a good talking to?” You asked.
“Real good talking to.” Bucky wipes his mouth talking to you more. “We got some new information from Natasha. She just came back from her honeymoon.”
Natasha Romanoff was Tony’s own little mole that had been placed undercover as Natalie Rushman inside the gang of Hydra about a year before you met Bucky. She was feeding them as much information as she could while also playing the newest, youngest and most loveable wife of Alexander Pierce.
“Oh how nice.” You smiled. You’d met Natasha before and she was gorgeous.
“It might be another year before she can come back and work for us.”
“That’s good.” You say before munching on your last fry.
“God, I love you.” He mumbled under his breath. There was no way you could be real.
“What’s that baby?” You raised a brow as you heard him mumble.
“I said I can’t wait to marry you.” He told you, watching your eyes fill with love before you launched at him, attaching to his lips in a passionate attack.

3 months later, the wedding reception.
The reception was in full swing. You had a slightly non-traditional wedding. No one heard your vows except you and Bucky, then you joined your friends for the reception. You had finally met T’Challa and his right hand woman Okoye. As well as Steve’s wife Peggy and Tony’s wife Pepper. A bunch of your family had turned up and some friends. Once you and Bucky had your first dance, you changed into something much more moveable so you could enjoy the wedding comfortably.
You were browsing through the snack table when a voice boomed behind you.
“Mrs Barnes.” The deep voice said.
You turned to see a handsomely long blonde man with blue eyes, smiling bright at you with his hand out to you.
You reached and accepted it.
“Thor Odinson.” He introduces himself.
Your face lit up in realisation. “Oh, Mr Odinson. Nice to finally meet you.”
“The pleasure is all mine, M’lady.” He said charmingly. “I hear you use to be a Vet Nurse.”
You nodded. “Yes, in fact that how I met Bucky.”
“Oh really?” He raises his eyebrows.
“Yeah, him and Tony came stumbling into the clinic I was working at chasing someone.” You explained, remembering that moment you first laid eyes on Bucky.
“Wow. I do love animals myself, though I never could have become a vet myself.” He smiled to himself. “I get too attached.”
“I love them too. I always wanted to work with animals. Just didn’t think it would end so soon.” In truth, you missed being surrounded by animals and meeting new ones.
“June.” Bucky’s voice interrupted. “Mind if I steal my wife back, Odinson?” He stepped to you and wrapped an arm around your waste.
Thor smiles at his ally before raising his hands in a playfull surrender. “She’s all yours.” Thor winked at you. “Nice to meet you, June.”
“You too.” You wave him off.
Bucky looks down at you, gosh he looked so good in his suit.
“What?” You giggled at him.
“You’re just so beautiful.” He rubbed his nose against yours.
You reach up gently and wrap your arm around his neck, pulling him down softly to meet you lips. You couldn’t get enough of kissing him today. He was finally your husband and you couldn’t wait to love him with all of your body.
You deepened the kiss by turning your head, your tongue massaging itself against his and you other arm gripping onto his shoulder. He pulls your body against him, pressing your chest against his and feeling the strength of his heart beat. His hands gripped you in such a delicious way that you wanted to melt in his embrace.
You pulled away for air and Bucky leant his forehead against yours, breathing heavily.
“Are you ready?” He asked, breath fanning against your face.
You look around to see that some guests had gone and it was now a relaxed mood, not that you cared. You just wanted to be with him.
“Yes.” Your voice came out on almost a beg.
“Alright.” Bucky pressed another soft kiss to your lips before pulling you with him to the small stage where a lone microphone stood.
“Hello, everyone.” Bucky pulled the attention of the rest of the people in the room. “Thank you all for coming to celebrate this beautiful woman and me. But now it is time we part.” Bucky smirked to the crowd. “We have to start our honeymoon.” You and Bucky then ran out of the venue, giggling like children and into the car on the way to the hotel you’d spend the night at. Making out and touch in the car, you couldn’t wait to get your hands on each other. As soon as the car stopped, you and Buck leapt out and into the building. Bucky fumbled with the room key while you kissed his neck, purring in his ear and gripping him any where you could get a hand full.
As he finally got it open, he pulled you inside and slammed you against the door as it shut. He attacked your neck and moved his hands to take off your outfit. His hands were rushed and he couldn’t wait to feel your skin. Getting frustrated with the fabric, he ripping it at the sides causing you to gasp.
“You only needed it for one night anyway.” He mumbled as he immediately latched onto your nipple, one hand gripping the skin on your hip and the other kneading your other breast.
Your head rested against the door with your eyes closed, enjoying his lips on you. Warmth grew in your core, wetness slicking up your folds as Bucky made his way down your body. He massaged your skin as his kisses trail down to your navel.
“I want to feel every inch of you.” He mumbled against your skin.
His lips were hot against your skin as he sucked a purple bruise on you hipbone. The fabric that had been ripped from your body and bunch up at your knees was now being pushed down you legs and you stepped out of it.
Bucky stood back up and tucked his hands under your thighs, making you jump and wrap your legs around his waist.
He handled you gently, making sure your legs shook at the touch of his tongue to your core and his tip to your sweat spot. He made sweet love to you and you were so glad he could fuck you like that for the rest of your life.

Chapter 1             What is a man?
A young Lincoln waited on the couch in the reading room, just as his mother had instructed him. He tugged at the collar on his shirt, trying to loosen it so he wouldn’t feel strangled. The day was warm and the manor was just as such. He finally heard the clacking of shoes on the wood floor and turned to see his parents leading a girl who appeared two, maybe three years older than him. They all stopped in front of the couch, the girl standing in front of them. She had buckteeth and her hair was drawn into a braid. Lincoln didn’t know why she was there and eagerly awaited.
“Lincoln, as you know,” his father began, “we have considered how to go about your education. We finally have decided that a private tutor is the best option for you. However, we also know that you need other children to play with,” his father looked down and gestured towards the girl, “so we also decided to hire an apprentice to the maids. She will live here with the rest of the staff and fulfill her duties, but she will also be here to help keep you from feeling lonely.” The girl was wide-eyed, looking very nervous at the prospect of the future that awaited her. Lincoln only looked curious, stuck in a state of wonderment.
“Go on, Lincoln, say hello,” his mother instructed.
               “Hi, I’m Lincoln,” he said.
“Hello, my name is Luan,” the girl said with a curtsy.
“Now, I do think it best for the two of you to get to know each other, so would you kindly show her around, Lincoln?” his father requested. Lincoln got off the couch and began an impromptu tour of the manor. He showed her every room, asking bits and pieces, not sure of what to really say. She was just as quiet, unsure of herself when responding. She noticed he was developing buck teeth, even if it was early, much like her. That was something they at least had in common.
“Why did you want to become a maid?” Lincoln asked. It was the only thing that felt right to say when he exhausted what little small talk he knew. She waited for a moment.
“My mom made me,” she replied, saddened. Lincoln only grew more curious to the answer.
“Why did she make you?” They had stopped in the middle of the hallway on the way to the north wing.
“She wanted to see me in a better place that would help take care of me,” Luan said. Lincoln was sure that he didn’t want to press that issue too much.
“Do you want to be with her?”
“Yes.” Luan looked at the floor. Lincoln thought quickly.
“Where are you from?” She looked up, her face reverting back to nervous.
“Royal Woods,” she spoke quietly, her voice distracted from her mother.
“Oh, that’s a quick train ride away,” he stated with realization.
“Have you been there?” Luan asked.
“No. I haven’t been able to go many places and my parents won’t let me visit places with them. But that’ll change in a few months.” He was jovial with the date for then.
“Do you want me to tell you about it?” He nodded fervently. They began their tour again, with her describing her hometown to him. He listened, marveling at her stories. She looked comfortable, as if she were in her own home and they were lifelong friends. Her voice was nice, as if he could listen to it for hours on end.
Lincoln enjoyed this memory, as he loved to remember meeting his best friend for the first time at the age of five. He enjoyed the games they played, although he enjoyed her company always, particularly when ditching their responsibilities. Though it had been a month on from when they met, they hid in a den that was rarely used by his family and just as touched by the staff. He didn’t like the schoolwork he had to do and she was trying to buy time before she had to do anything. She wore a white frilled cap, a simple gray dress, and the apron was not too far off from the cap in design. He was wearing an orange suit that was more to impress the tutor than to be comfortable.
“I don’t know why I ever have to wear this stupid suit. It does nothing but choke me,” Lincoln complained. Luan giggled a little.
“I like it. Orange seems to be your color.” He looked at her with an empty warning in his eyes.
“If you like it, then why don’t you wear it?” he jested. She laughed a little.
“I would but I’m afraid I would be mistaken for a savage, much like you,” she delivered with a wide grin. He laughed, knowing her words were meant only for tickling him.
“I’m still wondering who took the pies from the kitchen,” he rhetorically declared.
“I don’t know, but three butlers certainly found them.” Lincoln laughed harder, remembering how all three were covered in the varying pie fillings. She joined him in laughter, enjoying her handiwork. “I wish everyone could laugh like this all the time,” she said in between giggles. He looked over at her, coming down from the giddiness.
“You want to see the world happy all the time?”
“Yeah. I only wish to make the world happy,” she spoke with a bittersweet tone.
“That’s what you’d love to do, huh?” He never knew before now.
“Yep.” She pulled out something small from her pocket. He saw it had many sides, all of which were yellow, dangling from a small string. “I’ve got my wish right here: to see everyone happy and to bring it to them.” She was smiling grandly. He saw her conviction of wanting to carry out the dream and saw the item go back into her pocket. He looked on at her, wondering if her dream could ever be fulfilled.
He stared, still, his face solemn and stony. He saw the caskets, ready to be lowered after some final words. He held the hand of Lily, his newborn sister. Lincoln wanted her to be able to see their parents one last time before interment, helping to build a chair for her carriage so she could look at them. His mother’s words were always fresh whenever he saw Lily. Promise me you’ll look after Lily, he heard her say with a voice growing weaker and weaker, all happening right after her delivery of her daughter. He promised her and she gave one final breath, smiling as she heard his words. He made sure he would keep his promise, always checking on her and tending to her if he heard her.
Luan was right beside him, looking worse than he was, tearing up but not sobbing, unlike some of the staff who were. He told them it wasn’t mandatory to attend and he would understand if they wished not to, but all of them came. The mourners at the funeral were clothed in black garb. The crowd heard the pastor clear his throat and begin the last step of his job for the event.
“These poor souls were taken from us, beginning with the passing of Lynn Loud, of whom had passed away on the twelfth of April, in the year of our Lord eighteen-hundred and eighty-two. On the nineteenth of April, in the same year, Rita Loud passed away and has joined her husband. They were kind souls in life and so shall be in Heaven.” The sky was gray but no other sign of rain coming was present. “I do believe that the book of Ecclesiastes has some important words for all of us and are most fitting for any occasion. I shall now recite chapter three, verses one through eight.” He cleared his throat again. “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance...”
Lincoln listened to the pastor. He waited for the man to be done, carefully observing each word he spoke. The words brought some comfort, but he wished not for comfort. He wished he could carry on with his parents being there for when he needed them most. And now he needed to be there when they needed him most. The pastor finished his services and approached Lincoln.
“My condolences, Mr. Loud,” he spoke, voice filled with the same solemnity he kept from before.
“Thank you, Pastor Mannard,” Lincoln replied. His voice was low.
“I’ll go ahead and retrieve the gravediggers for their burial. Are you sure you wish to stay around?” the pastor asked.
“I wish to see things through and give them the first shovelful of dirt,” he replied, still low with his voice.
“Then I shall be back in a moment.” The pastor left, going to where the diggers were. Luan put a hand on his shoulder.
“Do you want me to take Lily back to the mansion?” Her voice sounded broken, trying hard to keep itself together. She noticed the staff heading back and wondered what Lincoln would like to do.
“No, let her be until I head back myself.” He moved toward their gravestones, Luan pulling her hand away. She moved closer to Lily, staying within arm’s reach of her. Lincoln stood before the deceased, looking over their gravestones to check for any imperfection.
A good wife and perfect mother, letting no one else say otherwise, he read on the stone for his mother. He made sure the words were perfect, wanting to never disrespect her memory.
A kind husband and an even greater father, he read on the stone for his father. The same case could made here. The pastor returned with his two assistants, spades in hand. They lowered the couple into the holes, taking extreme care with doing so. True to his word, Lincoln gave the first portion of dirt to his mother and the next portion to his father, handing back the spade. He walked away, Luan and Lily in tow. He could hear the movement of dirt until he could hear no more, mostly since a set of walls blocked the sounds.
“Take Lily to her wet-nurse and please tell the staff that I don’t wish to disturbed for the rest of the day,” he told Luan after entering the foyer, the door barely being closed behind them. She nodded and he went to the den his father used almost all the time. Luan did precisely as instructed, informing those who needed to know and ensuring that Lily was to be taken care of before leaving her to see Lincoln. She opened the door with no warning and stepped in.
“May I come in?” she asked, unsure if he would entertain the thought of having her there at this time. He turned to see that it was indeed her before turning back and giving his response.
“Please do,” he spoke quietly from his seat. She moved in farther after shutting the door with a soft thunk. “It’s quite surreal, sitting here,” he spoke again.
“How so?” she indulged the pleasantry, sure of what the answer might be.
“He would always sit there,” Lincoln gestured at the giant, empty seat on the other side of the desk in front of him, “tending to any and all matters that were for business. I never saw him within this room without his presence on that side.” He rested his head in one hand as he looked at the floor. “I’ll never see him standing there again. He filled that seat, but now...” He turned to Luan and she saw his facade slowly breaking down. “But now… I’m not even sure I can fill it. Not even sure I want to fill it.” She stood behind him and clasped a hand upon his shoulder.
“I’m sure you’ll figure this out in due time,” she said, trying her best to comfort him.         “Maybe so, but… there’s just so much to do,” he voiced with grave concern. “I have to assume control over my father’s business ventures, I have to make sure the estate isn’t just suddenly taken away, I have to make sure Lily is taken care of, all the while with me needing to put bread on the table for everyone here.” He looked back down. “Luan, I’m ill-prepared to be Master of the Estate.”
“We all have faith in you, Lincoln,” she said to soothe his woes. “You might not be prepared but I know you’ll succeed. You always do.” She finished with a giant smile showing off her buckteeth. He returned one that was weak, but it was still a smile nonetheless.
“Thank you, Luan, for your kind words,” he said. “However, I must ask you follow suit with the other staff and allow me to be alone for the rest of the day. I apologize if I sound unreasonable.”
“Not at all. I’ll let you know if an emergency arises and requires your attention,” she said and gave truth to her words by letting him be. With the door closed behind her, she set off for her normal rounds, checking to see if anyone was in need of company or wished to check on their employer’s emotional state. She left each room since not one spec of dust or dirt could found and everyone was given the same information when she encountered them. Finally, she walked into Lily’s room, sure there was something to pass the time there.
“How is Master Lincoln fairing?” the woman holding Lily as she herself sat in the rocking chair asked. Her age was certainly not large in number, though it was possible for her to be a grandmother (albeit, a young one at that), her hair reflecting this slightly and the formation of wrinkles barely taking root.
“He seems to be doing better than yesterday but the toll is still plain to see,” Luan responded from a chair stationed near the door. “I’m assuming that tomorrow, Lincoln will wish to be left alone in his room.”
“That’s Master Lincoln. He’s the head of the estate now; you must show him the proper respect his position carries,” the woman scolded her.
“I am showing him respect. He had the title thrust upon him and is still trying to get used to holding it. He wishes that his father still held it,” Luan said, defending her choice in words. The woman sighed.
“I suppose your words have merit, but that does not mean you should be used to speaking with a lack of title in your address of him.” Luan couldn’t argue her words. For as much as Lincoln was her friend, it was inevitable that he would simply become less so and then she would either have to leave or deal with it as her only paths.
“Fair enough,” Luan submitted. “But for now, it’s reasonable.” The older woman chuckled.
“That stubbornness will either put you on the streets or take you to the top of society,” the woman said as she stifled her laughing.
“And I’ll gladly accept such a fate, Ms. Agnis,” Luan spoke with confidence. With the time passing by quickly the more she conversed, night soon fell and she, along with all other members of the manor (to her knowledge), turned in so as to rise in the morning.
However, the next day was still as dreary as the previous one. Lincoln refused to have her as company, something she had expected and so she waited for the next day, and then the next day. And the one after that. It was at long last on the fourth day that she set her mind to disturbing her good friend in his time away from it all.
“Lincoln?” she called from her side of a large door after a quick rap. There was nothing. She repeated her actions, calling a second time, still gaining no response. “I’m coming in,” she warned as she tried the knob. It gave no resistance to her entrance. She entered and saw Lincoln slumped in a chair, his clothes still surrounding him as if he had been productive through the night. He had severe bags under his eyes and the occasional snore let her know he was still breathing. “Wake up, Lincoln.”
“What’s the time?” he asked as he roused at her hand’s behest.
“Time for breakfast,” she answered. He rubbed his eyes to rid them of sleep.
“Send it up then,” he responded, beginning to sit up and get some life into his limbs.
“Everyone’s worried about you,” she informed him. He paused and looked at her, his eyes barely focused.
“I’ll be down in a few minutes, then,” he conceded, slumping forward in the seat. She began to make her way out of the room so as to give him the space for his own needs but was stopped just before the door. “Tell everyone they’re more than welcome to join me, though I suspect I won’t be down there for long,” he added on. She nodded and went to spread the news. Almost all of the staff declined such an offer, the only one willing to accept being Ms. Agnis, on the conditions that she not be served anything.
Enough time passed to cause Luan to wonder if she would have to go back to retrieve her friend when he showed up. His clothes were more put together and fresher looking, but he still had a disheveled look to his head. She knew better than to point it out, seeing how him arriving was an achievement in and of itself. He took his seat and bowed his head so as to stare at the table. Luan delivered his breakfast directly to him.
“How’s the meal, Lincoln?” she asked after a few bites were taken. It was a simple testing of the waters, meant mostly to be done in stealth behind kind words.
“Quite good. Thank you,” he replied with little life in his words. She had taken a seat beside him, something she was rarely afforded a chance to do.
“That’s good to hear,” Luan said, unsure what else to truly do. He continued to eat the meal in peace, leaving with barely a word at the end of it. Luan followed him, even after he ducked into his room and tried to shut the door behind himself.
“I wish to be in peace,” he spoke with slight annoyance, turning around and seeing who he had given such a command to. “My apologies. I didn’t see you there.”
“There’s no need to be sorry. I completely understand,” she replied. He turned back to sit in his chair once more.
“I do wish to be alone,” he said in a much calmer tone. She ignored this and went directly to him, standing by his side as he sat at his desk.
“I’m worried about you,” she said, her tone showing it. “I haven’t seen you smile in an eternity.”
“Luan, now is not the right time–”
“I’m not leaving until I see a smile on your face, Lincoln.” She delivered the ultimatum and he knew that he was in for a fight to be rid of her. “Did you hear about the man wandering a police station? Apparently when he was stopped and asked why he was there, he said he didn’t have the faintest clue.” She saw the twinges of a smile touch the edges of his mouth and used this as a hope to keep pressing on. “Did you hear about the other man wandering the police station? He was trying to find someone to talk to about his pole’s lease”, she delivered, allowing a smile to touch her lips. Lincoln was trying quite hard to suppress the smile he was developing.
“Please, Luan,” he begged. She ignored him.
“Three men and a dwarf walk into a bar,” she began. A knock at the door to the room interrupted her. They both looked toward the door.
“Enter,” Lincoln called. The door opened to reveal a member of staff, a butler by the name of Drewson.
“There’s someone here who requests to meet you, sir,” he spoke, his very voice unsure if he should have even alerted the Master of the Estate to this guest and instead to have sent the person packing at the door.

1vanth30s0m3/ivanthestoryteller: That was quite something. If you enjoyed it, then hopefully you’ll stick around for the rest of the story. I’ve never written an AU nor have I ever dreamed I would. I’d like to take this time to say that I’m probably going to get these chapters released very slowly, so hopefully I’ll be able to keep to a schedule of no more than every three months (I’m not joking). At least until I finish everything and then I’ll up the releases. I’d also like to take this time to recommend stories to you, dear reader. The first two stories go against my personal criteria for this section, but I’ll also be putting in two instead of one, so nothing will be as I want it to be in the future as I have it now. The first story is “Loud Like Love” by ThisAccountKillsFascists. I think I forgot to mention them in the last story I wrote and so I’m just being safe here. The second story I want to recommend is “A Sister’s Love” by (current name) Outsider316. Both can be found on fanfiction.net and are great stories. I really think you should check them out. In the future, I’ll be aiming for stories with under 50 favorites and 50 follows as well as less than 100 reviews from the same site. Other than that, tell me or doodler what you think about this story either here or on fanfiction.net. Reviews and/or pm’s are greatly appreciated.
Doodler here, now many of you fine ladies and gents know I had been absent for a while well that’s because recently I have been out of a job and had been struggling to make ends meet which is not a good thing when you are the constant whipping boy of that jerk called depression. I apologized for the delay and what I am about to do. I will be setting up some of the old fundraising sites like patreon. Not looking for much nor do I have a plan. All I will ask is just some small amount like a dollar, not even per month just a one time donation to help keep the lights on.
But have no fear! I will still be producing more content regardless!
The Loudest Show is a go!!!

GRANOLA (Cranscott fanfic)
It had been a long day. It was just Jason and Billy in the pit for these last few hours. Zack needed to get home to his mom, Trini had to watch her brothers while her parents went out and Kimberly got into it with her parents earlier so they gave her a curfew. Billy’s mom was renting a new van and Billy didn’t really drive so much so Jason was his ride home and would probably stay the night or just bike home. It beats biking all the way to the mines and then back.
Jason smirked as he barely dodged a punch.
“Woah! You’re killing it Billy!” Jason said in between breaths. Billy stopped and clapped a few times. Jason laughed and rested his hands on his knees. He hunched over in exhaustion. Both boys were drenched in sweat, Jason in his tank and red jogging pants and Billy in his blue sweat suit and head band. All of the rangers had started to wear more of their colors, unbeknownst to each other. It had just become a little thing for all of them, their own signature touch. It was actually Billy who mentioned it to all the rangers at lunch. They all pretended like they didn’t even notice but it was quite apparent what they had all begun to do.
“Can we take a break? I can barely stand up!” Billy exclaimed. Jason chuckled and nodded. Billy was just so… cute? Jason couldn’t explain it right. Whenever he was with him, he just couldn’t be anything but happy. It’s like the blue ranger’s joy and carefree energy was infectious. Honestly, Jason didn’t mind the feeling one bit. It was much better than being at home. His mom barely talked to him anymore because she was so busy taking care of his sister Pearl, and his dad was just being… well, dad. Being with Billy was almost like an escape for the leader, but not in a using and manipulating way. Billy was much more to him than that, and frankly, it was very scary.
Ever since they defeated Rita, the two had been spending much more time together. Trini and Kimberly totally snicker whenever Jason saves Billy a seat right next to him at lunch. Zack prides himself in being the best wingman ever, so whenever Billy runs from the lunch line to snag that seat, Zack just says obnoxious shit like “Oh Billy, doesn’t Jason look sooooooooo hot today?” Jason just kicks him under the table and Billy smiles and nods.
“Yeah. He looks nice all the time.” Jason groans and rubs his face to hide his blush and then Billy goes on to talk about other things.
So yeah, it’s gotten a little out of hand.
Jason and Billy grab their water bottles and sit down on the flat rock near the entrance of the pit. Jason starts chugging his water and Billy tries to slow down his breathing to a steady pace. “Being a power ranger is a lot of work you know? Like when me and my dad would come to the mines, we didn’t really do anything, well I didn’t. My dad would do all the work and I would help out a lot more when I got older, but other than that I would sit and watch, I never thought that there would be all this stuff here.”
“Well it’s honestly because of you that we’re here.” Jason said. Billy nodded.
“All I did was blow up the wall. We wouldn’t be rangers if it wasn’t for you, and Trini, and Kimberly… and Zack too.” Jason laughed and finished the last of his water. Billy pulled out a granola bar and opened it, offering it to Jason. “You want some? I’m not super hungry.” Jason nodded and took a piece.
“Thanks.” Jason said as he tossed the small piece into his mouth. The chocolate chips tasted so good after that work out. Billy bit into the granola bar and scarfed it down in about 30 seconds. However, the silence that followed felt like it lasted for hours.
“Jason…?’
“Yeah Billy?”
“Do you know Amanda?” Jason kinda sighed, thinking no, hoping that Billy was gonna ask him something else. But he never thought he’d ask about his ex girlfriend. She was one of the head cheerleaders and after he messed up his leg after the whole beef cake incident, they just started distancing themselves from one another. It was obvious that they were together because of the social statuses and hierarchies of Angel Grove High.
“Uh… yeah. We talked to each other for a while. Why?”
“Oh. Her and her friends just laugh sometimes when they see me or us. And at lunch when we all sit together. They whisper and say things but I don’t really know why. It makes me feel weird or just bad. I heard Kimberly saying that they cut her out of a picture or something and they aren’t friends anymore. At least she has us because if I didn’t have you guys I probably wouldn’t have anyone to talk to either.” Jason only heard about Amanda and started to heat up. He knows that Billy can handle himself but he feels extremely protective of him, and these new feelings that he’s having are not helping.
“She laughs at you? What does she say? Does she do anything else? Has she said anything to you?” Jason tensed up a bit as he sort of spat out each question. He truly doesn’t understand how someone could bother Billy. He’s kind and considerate and truly a good person. He even morphed before everyone else because he cared so much.
“I don’t know what she says exactly. And she hasn’t talked to me. Are you ok Jason? I didn’t mean to upset you at all. It doesn’t bother me a lot.” Jason looked away.
“No I’m fine. As long as she doesn’t say anything to you. If she does let me know.” Billy nodded.
“Okay. You said you talked to her before?”
“More like dated.”
“She was your girlfriend?”
“Yeah.”
“So you liked her then?”
“Not really. We were just together because we felt like we had to be. Like, if we weren’t then the school wasn’t in balance or some shit like that.” Billy frowned a bit at the swear and tone in Jason’s voice. “Sorry Billy.”
“No it’s okay. I just can’t say that word, but you can say what you want.” They both laughed a bit. “Is that how you feel with me?” Jason was completely thrown off by the question.
“Wait what?”
“Do you feel like you have to be with me because we’re a team?”
“No! Of course not Billy, not at all. You are nothing like those stuck up kids that go there, and trust me, I would know because I was one of them. You’re a good person, someone who actually cares about others and would do anything to protect them. I enjoy being around you.” Billy smiled and fiddled his fingers together.
“I enjoy being around you too Jason.” Billy could feel the heat radiating off of Jason’s body. They were so close. Billy started to heat up a bit too. His cheeks flushed. He became confused. He didn’t normally like touching and all of that but Jason was different. He was nice. The closest thing to a friend he has ever had at Angel Grove. But he knows what friendship feels like.
Friendship is how he feels with the other rangers.
This isn’t the same thing.
But he doesn’t really know what it is then and how to act on the feelings. If it’s not friendship, then what exactly is he feeling and why?
“You know Jason, you’re my friend, and whenever I see you I just want to go to you and talk with you, and walk with you, and just be near you all the time. I hope it doesn’t get annoying because I know that I can be that sometimes or boring even…” Jason shook his head at that, “but when I’m with you, I get all weird inside, like my face heats up and my stomach feels funny, not like I’m going to throw up or anything but well, I guess you felt the same with Amanda… or probably not… well maybe you felt the throwing up part because you didn’t like her but I even talked with Kimberly about it. She told me that it’s a good thing, and that I like you, and I do like you obviously but Kimberly corrected me and told me not in the way that she feels about you or Zack, but that I like you the same way that she feels about Trini. Does that make sense?” Jason was just dumbfounded. Was Billy really explaining how he felt himself? Everything was the same down to a tee, his feelings, the weird sensation in his stomach.
“Is that all true Billy? You feel that way? With me?”
“Well of course. She said that I probably want to be with you but I’m with you right now like I am all the time but it doesn’t fix the feelings I get. It only makes them worse…” Jason bit his lip. He was never good with words but he was a leader, that was his job. To encourage his team or to speak for them as Zordon put it, which he completely disagreed with. They were their own people and could speak up for themselves but how was he to lead a team if he could barely talk himself?
“Jason?” Jason snapped back to reality at the sound of Billy’s voice.”
“Sorry I was just…” he opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out.
“You’re mad at me aren’t you? I was hoping that wouldn’t happen Jason I’m sorry. I don’t want to weird you out.”
“No Billy listen-” Jason grabbed Billy’s hand. Billy flinched a bit from surprise but Jason forced himself to ignore it and not pull away out of instinct. He had to get these words out. If he didn’t, then he knew he’d regret it. “Billy I feel the same. I do I really do. You’re so smart and just… yourself. You don’t pretend to be anyone that you’re not and I wish that I had done that years ago. When I see you, no matter what’s happened at home or at school, I’m happy, and that’s a feeling I haven’t felt in so long.” Billy smiled and looked down at their hands. It was all so strange. Neither boy could understand it really but as strange as it was, it felt right. And that’s all that mattered now.
They’ve seen stranger things than this anyway, like the whole teen super hero zero crystal dino car stuff.
Billy laughed and Jason smiled at him. “What’s so funny? Did I sound stupid?”
“No it’s just, you know how Trini and Kimberly are?” Jason rolled his eyes.
“You mean like making out all the time?” Billy laughed.
“Sure…” Jason smiled and looked away, his cheeks flushed. He leaned into Billy a bit and turned. He looked at him, he actually looked at Billy. He was perfect. The moonlight framed his face in the most fascinating way. Jason kissed Billy on the cheek. Billy smiled and faced him. He leaned in a bit and caught Jason’s lips in his own. They broke apart after a few seconds. Jason laughed with excitement and put his head on Billy’s shoulder.
“Why are you laughing at me now?” Billy said breaking into short laughs between the words.
“Nothing it’s just… you taste like granola.”
“Yeah? Well so do you!”
They both laughed against each other until their sides ached.
