the true mass effect experience is spending ages making a personalised character just to run into a random npc that looks almost identical to them

What if you chose control at the end of ME3, and then you import that save into ME4, and it turns into a Civ-style galaxy management game?

My brother said to me, PRE-COVID, so like 3+ years ago, that the next ME was going to have Liara's child be the new protag.
Whether or not you romanced Liara, there was at least 1 mind-meld between Shep and Liara in ME1. I'm not sure there was a way to get around it. Shep & Liara's kid is the new ME protag and nothing I've seen thus far disproves it.
Just saying it here so my brother has bragging rights if his theory holds.

People keep speculating about Shepard coming back for ME4 and honestly, that would be horrific.
I don't know about everyone else, but if my Cassia found herself resurrected AGAIN, she would lose it. Not to mention, ME4 is so far in the future that everyone she loves is long dead; the love of her goddamn life is gone and she's been yanked back from the void to fight again.
At best, she'd murder whoever brought her back and then find a way to kill herself that would make it impossible to bring her back a third time.
At worse, she sticks around but is just completely driven by absolute hatred and spite. The mission gets done, but at what cost?

me4 wishlist:
- unreal 5 engine
- bigger hubs. i wanna be able to go inside a shopping mall on illium or on the citadel for real. let me see all that alien fashion and the gadgets of different species. i would even be thrilled to just be able to enter a grocery store and see all the alien foods.
- ability to buy clothes from malls or foods (just for fun) from grocery stores
- also the option to visit a hairdresser and get a new haircut, to get tattoos at the tattoo parlor, or maybe different make up at a beauty salon
- baby, children and teen npc‘s. the lack of children in mass effect takes away the realism. you‘d think there would be kids on the citadel or on illium.. adding kids would make the gaming experience seem much more realistic.
- more diversity in outfits for npc‘s. it would be so cool to see some actual unique alien fashion in the game rather than just that boring standard suit for men of all races whether krogan, salarian, turian, human and that standard dress for all the asari and human women. plus humans need more diversity in hairstyles no way they‘ve all got the same 5 haircuts in the 22nd century
- getting to see more of thessia. i wanna be able to walk through town in thessia on a sunny day, no reapers.
- a palaven & kahje hub and missions on those planets
- i genuinely wanna see the vorcha, volus, and elcor homeworlds heshtok, irune and dekuuna too
- a vorcha character that isn‘t a primitive brute but has an actual personality and morals
- new species! please let us see some of those species from the terminus system apparently there are dozens others aside the yahg, lystheni, drell that are relatively unknown as well, and they‘re never mentioned by name in the game.
- more of the rachni if you saved them
- squadmates roaming around the ship and the hubs
- option to send squadmates on strike missions. assign a squad leader that leads a small squad while you are working on something else with your squad.
- be able to take more than two squadmates with you
- ability to play an alien
- multiplayer version
- an abundance of lesbian and gay romance options. don‘t do the squadmates in me4 dirty like thane, jack and miranda who were supposed to be bi, but were changed to be straight

The main galactic power players, post-war:
First of all, the krogan. At the very least, the krogan must get a seat in the council. If a named/old character has to be the one to hold it, it should be Bakara. Wrex should rule a unified Tuchanka. Their help was instrumental in holding Palaven, and as a consequence, humanity and the turians. I can see all three peoples become closer allies. Tension would remain, especially between the turians and the krogan, rightfully so. However, I can see the Hierarchy, under Victus, finally start to pay reparations for the genophage.
An initial offer is made to get turian workers to Tuchanka, to help physically rebuild the planet's main cities. This is completely vetoed by the krogan leadership, obviously. These guys were doing secret operations like a year ago to disable a gigantic bomb they had buried in their planet to destroy them. They agree on raw materials + monetary compensation until krogan population reaches pre-genophage and post-industrialization, but pre-expansion numbers. A surviving Shepard that keeps working as a Spectre would totally mediate the negotiations as an impartial observer. It is also yet another show of cooperation between all three peoples.
Now, the asari... would they get any sort of penalty for hiding the Athame beacon? Would it all get swept under the rug due to corruption? Would it be purposefuly "forgiven" due to the galaxy-wide destruction? Let's be real - if they had revealed the secret as soon as the Alliance and its allies started building the Crucible, they would've defeated the reapers much sooner. Hell, maybe Thessia would've been spared - it's attacked after the Crucible plans are found on Mars, with enough time to spare to give Alliance officials (including one very annoyed human spectre) the information.
Even if they didn't know that the beacon held information on how to destroy the reapers, it was known that a weapon of prothean origin was being built, and they had information that came straight from the protheans. If the matriarchs had any common sense, they'd start offering asari help to rebuild say...the Citadel. The keepers were basically reaper tech, right? So it stands to reason that they would've died with them, too. Now, if the others had any common sense they would refuse the generous offer and get their hands on it first (when both humans and turians call dibs, Done-With-Your-Shit Shepard says it should be the asari, under strict council supervision).
Salarians! They did not withhold crucial information, but they actively tried to sabotage the biggest war alliance by trying to ruin the cure for the genophage, and withholding support when they didn't get their way. To save face, the STG could try to make it seem like it was the Dalatrass acting alone, have her replaced, and profusely apologize. They are not formally penalized, but their political influence is definitely diminished. Again, the krogan are now among the most influential species, and the humans and the turians didn't get any help from the salarians, either. The asari chose to stay impartial in that mess, and look how it turned out for them. As such, they'll both need to keep a low profile until things have significantly cooled down.
The quarians would have no interest in joining, I believe. They'll be high on the thrill of getting their planet back. They'll need to completely reorganize their entire society, so galaxy-wide politics would take a backseat for a while. They are used to self-sufficiency and ostatrization for everyone else, so I can't see them being too keen on them, too.
Unfortunately, I don't think the "secondary" species/worlds would get much more influence or power. Some of them, like the volus and the elcor contributed a non-insignificant ammout to the war effort. However, allowing the volus into the council would be a conflict of interest: they are a client race to the turians, so unless they became completely independent for a long while, they wouldn't get that seat. Since elcor made a similar contribution, it would be unfair if they got it and the volus didn't, so no more seats for anyone. The drell don't even have their own planet, and the overall contribution from them and the hanar was not significant enough to change much of their status. Of course, all of these are excuses. The big power players are just not keen on sharing, just like before. After all, politicians will be politicians, and a sense of unity only goes so far.

I know I’m 6-7 hours late to the post about what races you want to romance in ME4 but I really like the wish for a bromance with a Salarian
Nothing in their storyline changes except all their intimate moments are just you and Salarian going “bro…” “bro…” to each other while intimately looking at the other
EXACTLY YES. I want Spongebob and Patrick's level of devotion. Platonic bromance at its finest without the Salarian being pushed aside for Shep's love interest.
Like you should be able to "lock" into their route like any other romantic partner and the story changes accordingly, but it's just pure unconditional love without a hint of romance or sex.
All the dates turn into fun activities where both of you are chilling, you get exclusive dialogue where they refer to you as their best friend, the most dear person to their heart, the brother from another mother idk man I just want us to be two peas in a pod.
Mass Effect did something similar before in ME3, nothing too major, but they had a very lovely sideplot about Steve if you're a femshep. He truly felt like a genuine friend, the way he entrusts you with his vulnerability, the small hangouts you get together, the way he greets you with enthusiasm whenever you talk to him.
Part of me was worried they're turn him into the "gay bff" trope, but thankfully nope. He still talks about the same interests he'd with a maleshep, minus the flirting.
I expected his story to be completely gutted out and pushed to the background since his romance is locked behind a maleshep. But to my surprise he still felt like an actual fully formed character! He still had endearing bonding moments with shep and a lot of fun hangouts.
I wonder if the same happens with maleshep and Samantha. For femshep, I enjoyed how unapologetically gay she was. It's such a fresh breath of air to see lesbian disaster representation in-game. She felt very authentic instead of the fetisizhation I expected. Like a woman character who's unashamed of her sexual desires and openly expresses them like any guy? Without it being treated as a perverted thing? Sign me tf up.

It’s so funny to me that they are apparently making another Mass Effect game that’s going to function as a direct sequel to the original trilogy. How are they going to do that. Are they going to pick and canonize one of the endings. Do they have any idea of the uproar that will cause after they presented all three endings as equal. Why would they do this to themselves.
