Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
Sir Daniel Fortesque, back from the dead once again!
—
What started as a practice sketch quickly blew up into a full blown poster for the story, and I can’t complain over the chain of thought that led me to this decision. Then the thought process had me thinking about recreating one of MediEvil II’s posters, if not just making one for myself. Plus, this gave me an excuse to work on full-backgrounds again!
Okay, so I made a post earlier about how Sir Daniel Fortesque sounds hotter in the French dub of MediEvil 2.
I completely and 100% stand by what I said. The French completely understood the assignment and made Sir Daniel sound very classy compared to the more zombie-like lisp in the original.
(please ignore the fact that I shot these videos in two different aspect ratios. I only "own" one of these games.)
Winston Chapelmount: -one day I started coughing, see? Felt a little weak. Thought, "ain't all bad, just a little cold". But no. The coughing got worse. The pain got worse. I was somehow burning and freezing all at once. I had to stay in bed, Sir Dan. Don't know how long it was, but last I remember, my whole family was standing around me, watching as I drowned on dry land.
Sir Daniel Fortesque: *clenches his fist in anger* I wish I was there to stop that evil curse.
Winston:
Winston: Uh Dan. It wasn't a curse.
Sir Daniel: I will find "Pneumonia" and avenge your death.
~1 hour was put into this bust. Nowhere near done, but a good start! This is Sir Daniel Fortesque of the Medievil series. He is one of my favorite characters of all time. Maybe I will make a whole statue of Dan eventually? It is impossible to find a statue of him, despite how popular his franchise was. I think Medievil, and Sir Dan, need a lot more love than they receive.
Thanks for stopping by in the stream earlier today if you did! Please share the video link around to get Frankenstein's Monster some exposure! (Spoiler alter, Dan's face is much easier to do than Frankenstein's Monster)
Did you know: In 2000, US residents could mail in four proof-of-purchase labels from various Hershey's products to receive MediEvil II and Spyro the Dragon Strategy Tip Cards!
Something I am trying to decipher, was Dead Head Fred inspired by Medievil 2? I doubt anybody could form a response, the fact that there's no information on it online and I doubt anybody. But myself. Has even run into the coincidence of playing both these games in a lifetime.
The original name for Medievil- Dead Man Dan- EERILY similar in name to "Dead Head Fred"
Specifically namedropping Medievil 2 since it introduces the mechanic of removing your head, the main gameplay mechanic of DHF
I don't know how common the whole "pause the game mid fight to choose a weapon based on a strategy" thing is, but it's a feature both in DHF and Medievil 2, DHF is fairly similar to Medievil 1 in terms of combat
The whole theme. Resurrected guy. I'm more than willing to pass this off as a coincidence, though, dead guy is a good trope
The whole mob boss with Lackey servants type main Villain. HMM.
Zombies + Scarecrows + Skeleton + Mutants + alien / nuclear enemies. A lot of their levels are QUITE similar, such as Freak Farms and Scarecrow Fields.
One part of Kensington feels like it's RIPPED from DHF (it would be vice versa, but it came off that way to myself since I played DHF first. It's UNCANNY).
DR STEINER LOOKS A LOT LIKE THE PROFESSOR holy christ. And dare I say Dr Steiner is a million times better than the professor. They pulled it off I cannot believe it.
Dead Head Fred's whole, main idea from the studio has been "We want to break the stigma of PSP games being bad and small, we want to create a whole game the length of a console game for the PSP". At the release of the PSP, the only other PS consoles out there were the PS and PS2. Clearly they took heavy inspiration from Playstation console games in general, it's very likely they may have come across the Medievil series.
Ok. I think I've pretty much just confirmed it with myself. It's just such an oddly specific game to be heavily inspired by.
