Tell us about your current and past motor vehicles
gladly! this is gonna be a long post
Tumblr media
this was my first car, she was a 1984 mercedes 300D turbodiesel. her name was clifford, named after a button on the dash from a defunct security system. in-line five diesel engine, sounded like a truck, was built like a truck, LOVED this car. i paid $600 for her in 2016. she had 308k miles when i bought her, and she went to the scrapyard with 314k the next year when the hood latches broke while i was on the highway and sent the hood into the windshield. i was okay but the repairs were just too much for a $600 car. she was awesome though, a real head turner even with her peeling clearcoat and plumes of diesel smoke
Tumblr media
then there was the corolla! 1999, manual transmission. the best car i’ve ever owned. not my favorite but definitely objectively the best. bought off a friend also for $600, around 210k miles. surprisingly fun to drive, very reliable. drove from north carolina to massachusetts in that car, and then across massachusetts every week. her name was wanda, which carried over from the previous owner. drover her for a little over a year before the brakes failed and i rear ended someone
Tumblr media
i replaced the corolla with an ‘05 mazda3 i called the tick, after the cartoon character. also bought from a friend. kept it through early 2021 i think, drove it through most of early quarantine. i didn’t love this car personally, in large part because the transmission and starter both went out on me within the first two months of ownership and the friend i bought it from was entirely unsympathetic. i sold it to my shitty roommate lol
Tumblr media
and then for some reason my mom gave me a sports car. she bought a new honda civic and handed down her 2004 subaru wrx wagon, with the manual transmission and everything. she’d named it the millennium falcon so i called her falcon. this car was a blast to whip around. that turbo boxer engine sounded amazing and this thing RIPPED on the highway. the biggest issues with it were that it really didn’t have all that much character on the road, and it took premium gas, so fill ups were EXPENSIVE. i sold her after having her for a few months because the clutch went out and i was quoted $2k to replace it because that’s what happens when you have a sports car. sold it as is to a guy with two other wrxs who wanted to fix it up and use it as a work car
Tumblr media
this is the current baby! bit of an older picture because she looks uhhh worse these days but this is clifford jr the 2001 jeep cherokee xj. i’ve learned so much with this car, done a bunch of the work on her myself. she’s a fixer upper im reaching my limit on but she’s served me remarkably well and is my favorite car i’ve owned. not fast, not good on gas, but god she’s got some character. just rolled over 256k miles
like i said i’m reaching my wits end with the jeep, every time i fix something two more things break, and i can’t afford for her to keep being a money pit. so i’m starting to save for something else, ideally a late 80s honda or toyota, or a panther body sedan, like a ford crown victoria or mercury grand marquis

beautiful Mercedes 300D wagon (S123), with optional 3rd row seating.
This was classified as a 7-passenger car, 6 of whom would’ve had 3-point seat belts (the middle row, middle seat had only a lap belt).

Mercedes-Benz 300TD W123 Station Wagon – The Best German Daily Driver Of All-Time?
The Mercedes-Benz W123 300TD is remembered today as one of the toughest and most reliable vehicles of its age, they were commonly used as taxis due to the fact they could run up over 1,000,000 kilometres (621,000 miles) on the odometer without requiring anything more than scheduled maintenance.
The Mercedes W123 And The Record Breaking OM617 Engine
Many of these high-mileage vehicles would be shipped to developing countries in Africa after being retired from fleets in Europe, where they would carry on for decades longer. Mercedes of this era proved well-suited to the rough road conditions in many of the world’s less wealthy nations, and vehicles carrying the three-pointed star could be found across the Middle East, Africa, and South America carrying everyone from government officials and dignitaries, to taxi passengers and livestock.
The Mercedes-Benz W123 is an executive car released in late 1975 and sold until early 1986, it succeeded the Mercedes-Benz W114 model. It outsold it predecessor and became the Mercedes with the highest production numbers in history up until that point, with 2.7 million units sold worldwide. Many of these cars are still on the road – somewhere in the world.
Mercedes offered the model in a number of variations, the W123 was the four-door version and the most common, there was also a luxurious coupé – C123, a limousine – V123, chassis-only (for ambulances etc) – F123, the estate/station wagon -S123, and as a convertible. A variety of engines were offered ranging from a 2 litre inline-4 petrol unit all the way up to a 3 litre turbodiesel.
It would be this 3 litre, 5-cylinder turbodiesel that would win the W123 a lot of fans. The engine produced 123 hp at 4,350 rpm and 184 ft lbs at 2,400 rpm though the power output did vary somewhat over the production run. This engine was the Mercedes-Benz OM617 engine, it was regarded as one of the most reliable motors of its time, it was also installed in the tough 4×4 Mercedes G Wagon, and it would still leave many modern engines in the dust in the longevity stakes.
Interestingly it would be a highly modified version of the OM617 turbodiesel that would set a slew of world speed and endurance records when it was fitted to the Mercedes-Benz C 111 concept prototype. On the test track at Nardo in Italy over the space of 60 hours, four drivers would set no less than 16 world records, including 13 for diesel vehicles and three for cars with any type of engine – their average speed was 252 km/h.
Today the W123 remains a popular car with Mercedes enthusiasts, and the 300D version is prized for its engineering. As the cars now begin to fall into the classic category due to their advancing years we’re seeing people spend money on full restorations, something that was rare even just 10 years ago.
The 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300TD W123 Station Wagon Shown Here
The Mercedes-Benz 300TD W123 Station Wagon you see here has recently been through a comprehensive restoration, including a full new interior reupholstering, which cost $14,900 USD on its own. The total cost of the restoration was over $31,000 USD and there are detailed receipts and invoices in the history file.
In the USA the European estate body style is typically referred to as a station wagon, this car is just such a model, with five doors and a lifting hatch at the back. It still has its original 300D turbodiesel engine and its 4-speed automatic transmission, a new air conditioning system by Custom Car Cool in Houston was fitted, and the car benefits from a fresh engine and glass-out respray.
Bonhams will be offering the car in mid-January, the estimated value is between $35,000 to $45,000 USD, if you’d like to read more about it or register to bid you can click here to visit the listing.

India-Bound Mercedes GLC Unveiled at the Geneva Motorshow
The Indian market loves its SUVs and all manufacturers make certain to get their SUVs in the Indian market as soon as possible. Mercedes current line up includes a whole variety of SUVs starting from the humble GLA to the top of the G wagon, the Indian market has it all. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC facelift made its public debut in the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. The new model includes contemporary style elements and new advanced features. The latest GLC also features the latest generation four-cylinder petrol and diesel Mercedes engines. Mercedes shall waste no time and deliver this SUV to the Indian market by 2020 replacing the current generation model.  Starting with the performance, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC includes the new choice of four-cylinder gas and diesel engines; the-GLC 300 4MATIC, GLC 220d 4MATIC and a GLC 300d 4MATIC. The 2.0-litre diesel engine powering the 220d model makes 192 bhp and 400 Nm torque, while the 300d model makes 241 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque. All these models are mated to the 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox. The cottage of the facelifted GLC receives a full upgrade and has an entirely black finish. The centre console trim gets the choice of piano lacquer finish or the open-pore ash timber or the walnut wood finish. However, the biggest highlight is the addition of this MBUX (Mercedes Benz User eXperience) system that comprises a digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen. The updated model also includes a Dynamic Body Control suspension with infinitely adjustable dampers for the front and rear axle, and an Off-Road Engineering Package which adds Off-Road and Off-Road+ driving modes. The updated Mercedes-Benz GLC shares the same profile and stance of its predecessor and accounts for new exterior changes like – a new chrome grille with a black coating for the three-pointed star logo at the center. The SUV also gets re-designed headlamps, and come with LED units as standard. The new LED daytime running lamps, along with a new front bumper, and fresh angular air intakes make the GLC look like a fresh and bright SUV. The 2020 GLC also comes with new alloy wheels ranging from 17 to 19 inches, in addition to a newly designed set of LED taillamps which have new rectangular elements and the integrated exhausts have a sharp-edged outline, rather than the existing curvaceous appearance. The GLC overall looks really sharp and mean. Stay tuned as we bring you latest updates of this India-bound SUV.  The post India-Bound Mercedes GLC Unveiled at the Geneva Motorshow appeared first on Sell Auto Notes | Sell BHPH Notes | Auto Note Buyers. https://autonotebuyerinc.com/india-bound-mercedes-glc-unveiled-at-the-geneva-motorshow/

A car owner's story. via /r/cars
A car owner's story.
In this thread, we will make and submit fictional car owner stories.
Here is mine:
Harry Brownville was born in 1959 in Southern California. He was an aspiring painter.
In 1975, he bought his first car - a 1964 small block Corvette coupe. He had it until 1979, when joydrivers wrecked it.
As the Corvette was uninsured, he bought a different, cheap, car - a 1963 Triumph Spitfire. It was unloved and barely ran, and in a few months, it died completely by setting itself on fire.
The Spitfire got replaced by a 1961 Jeep M606, which was an old Army surplus farm truck, revived by a new battery. It was in use until 1986, when the engine had ground itself up and the car got parked on the farm.
In 1983, needing some more highway-friendly cheap transportation, which would transport him between the abandoned Marin farm he inhabited and the city of San Francisco, Mr. Brownville bought a 1971 Peugeot 504. It was quite resilient, but in 1988, an engine repair was scheduled to cost more than the car, so the Peugeot got scrapped.
Its replacement was a 1969 ex-junkyard Jaguar XJ6. Unfortunately, the car quickly showed why it was on a junkyard through needing expensive repairs, and it came back to the yard in 1989.
The replacement was a 1974 VW Beetle. It ran just fine, but by 1997, Mr. Brownville decided he wanted a newer car, and put the Beetle in use as a farm car. It was that until 2001, when it did not survive a stream crossing attempt and was pushed to the farmyard.
The Beetle's replacement as the main car was a 1984 Toyota Cressida wagon. It ran just fine until 2003, when a crash with an F-150 totaled it.
Also, in 1999, Brownville won a 1966 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow in a game of poker. However, the car was a piece of junk lacking any value, being devoid of most mechanical bits and used as a storage bin/chicken coop. It was parked in the farmyard.
When the Beetle came to a wet end, its farm truck replacement was a 1967 Deuce-and-a-half truck. Unfortunately, in 2009, the front suspension basically fell apart, and it was never repaired - the truck was parked on the farmyard.
In order to replace his Cressida, Brownville bought a 1983 Mercedes 300D sedan. Unfortunately, because the previous owner ran it on vegetable oil, the engine seized in 2006. Going to the yard as one of these cars that could be fixed.
The replacement was an $1500 Craigslist 1975 Lincoln Mark IV. It was a comfortable car, until 2012 saw the engine seizing and the Lincoln joining other cars from the farm.
In 2008, Harry was browsing the local Craigslist, and saw an $1000 1975 Winnebago. Seeing a bargain, he quickly bought it. It served him as a car for music festivals until 2010, when the engine seized and was never repaired, being put in the yard.
To replace the Deuce, 2009 saw an arrival of a 1977 Chevy CUCV. However, in 2015, the differential basically exploded and the Chevy ended up as another car in the yard.
In 2012, the Lincoln was replaced by a 1996 Chevrolet Caprice PPV, which still runs and is its owner's main car.
In 2014, Brownville saw a project car hell 1979 Datsun 280Z for $500. He decided to buy it to learn mechanics, but it is still in pieces in his barn.
2015 had the old Chevy get replaced by a 1993 Toyota Truck. It is still used on the farm.
And this is a story written by me. What are your products of imagination?
