10 Reasons to Make Apache Iceberg and Dremio Part of Your Data Lakehouse Strategy
Tumblr media
Get a Free Copy of "Apache Iceberg: The Definitive Guide" Build an Iceberg Lakehouse on Your Laptop
Apache Iceberg is disrupting the data landscape, offering a new paradigm where data is not confined to the storage system of a chosen data warehouse vendor. Instead, it resides in your own storage, accessible by multiple tools. A data lakehouse, which is essentially a modular data warehouse built on your data lake as the storage layer, offers limitless configuration possibilities. Among the various options for constructing an Apache Iceberg lakehouse, the Dremio Data Lakehouse Platform stands out as one of the most straightforward, rapid, and cost-effective choices. This platform has gained popularity for on-premises migrations, implementing data mesh strategies, enhancing BI dashboards, and more. In this article, we will explore 10 reasons why the combination of Apache Iceberg and the Dremio platform is exceptionally powerful. We will delve into five reasons to choose Apache Iceberg over other table formats and five reasons to opt for the Dremio platform when considering Semantic Layers, Query Engines, and Lakehouse Management.
5 Reasons to Choose Apache Iceberg Over Other Table Formats
Apache Iceberg is not the only table format available; Delta Lake and Apache Hudi are also key players in this domain. All three formats provide a core set of features, enabling database-like tables on your data lake with capabilities such as ACID transactions, time-travel, and schema evolution. However, there are several unique aspects that make Apache Iceberg a noteworthy option to consider.
1. Partition Evolution
Apache Iceberg distinguishes itself with a feature known as partition evolution, which allows users to modify their partitioning scheme at any time without the need to rewrite the entire table. This capability is unique to Iceberg and carries significant implications, particularly for tables at the petabyte scale where altering partitioning can be a complex and costly process. Partition evolution facilitates the optimization of data management, as it enables users to easily revert any changes to the partitioning scheme by simply rolling back to a previous snapshot of the table. This flexibility is a considerable advantage in managing large-scale data efficiently.
2. Hidden Partitioning
Apache Iceberg introduces a unique feature called hidden partitioning, which significantly simplifies the workflows for both data engineers and data analysts. In traditional partitioning approaches, data engineers often need to create additional partitioning columns derived from existing ones, which not only increases storage requirements but also complicates the data ingestion process. Additionally, data analysts must be cognizant of these extra columns; failing to filter by the partition column could lead to a full table scan, undermining efficiency.
However, with Apache Iceberg's hidden partitioning, the system can partition tables based on the transformed value of a column, with this transformation tracked in the metadata, eliminating the need for physical partitioning columns in the data files. This means that analysts can apply filters directly on the original columns and still benefit from the optimized performance of partitioning. This feature streamlines operations for both data engineers and analysts, making the process more efficient and less prone to error.
3. Versioning
Versioning is an invaluable feature that facilitates isolating changes, executing rollbacks, simultaneously publishing numerous changes across different objects, and creating zero-copy environments for experimentation and development. While each table format records a single chain of changes, allowing for rollbacks, Apache Iceberg uniquely incorporates branching, tagging, and merging as integral aspects of its core table format. Furthermore, Apache Iceberg stands out as the sole format presently compatible with Nessie, an open-source project that extends versioning capabilities to include commits, branches, tags, and merges at the multi-table catalog level, thereby unlocking a plethora of new possibilities.
These advanced versioning features in Apache Iceberg are accessible through ergonomic SQL interfaces, making them user-friendly and easily integrated into data workflows. In contrast, other formats typically rely on file-level versioning, which necessitates the use of command-line interfaces (CLIs) and imperative programming for management, making them less approachable and more cumbersome to use. This distinction underscores Apache Iceberg's advanced capabilities and its potential to significantly enhance data management practices.
4. Lakehouse Management
Apache Iceberg is attracting a growing roster of vendors eager to assist in managing tables, offering services such as compaction, sorting, snapshot cleanup, and more. This support makes using Iceberg tables as straightforward as utilizing tables in a traditional database or data warehouse. In contrast, other table formats typically rely on a single tool or vendor for data management, which can lead to vendor lock-in. With Iceberg, however, there is a diverse array of vendors, including Dremio, Tabular, Upsolver, AWS, and Snowflake, each providing varying levels of table management features. This variety gives users the flexibility to choose a vendor that best fits their needs, enhancing Iceberg's appeal as a versatile and user-friendly data management solutio
5. Open Culture
One of the most persuasive arguments for adopting Apache Iceberg is its dynamic open-source culture, which permeates its development and ecosystem. Development discussions take place on publicly accessible mailing lists and emails, enabling anyone to participate in and influence the format's evolution. The ecosystem is expanding daily, with an increasing number of tools offering both read and write support, reflecting the growing enthusiasm among vendors. This open environment provides vendors with the confidence to invest their resources in supporting Iceberg, knowing they are not at the mercy of a single vendor who could unpredictably alter or restrict access to the format. This level of transparency and inclusivity not only fosters innovation and collaboration but also ensures a level of stability and predictability that is highly valued in the tech industry.
Dremio
Dremio is a comprehensive data lakehouse platform that consolidates numerous functionalities, typically offered by different vendors, into a single solution. It unifies data analytics through data virtualization and a semantic layer, streamlining the integration and interpretation of data from diverse sources. Dremio's robust SQL query engine is capable of federating queries across various data sources, offering transparent acceleration to enhance performance. Additionally, Dremio's suite of lakehouse management features includes a Nessie-powered data catalog, which ensures data is versioned and easily transportable, alongside automated table maintenance capabilities. This integration of multiple key features into one platform simplifies the data management process, making Dremio a powerful and efficient tool for organizations looking to harness the full potential of their data lakehouse.
5. Apache Arrow
One of the key reasons Dremio's SQL query engine outperforms other distributed query engines and data warehouses is its core reliance on Apache Arrow, an in-memory data format increasingly recognized as the de facto standard for analytical processing. Apache Arrow facilitates the swift and efficient loading of data from various sources into a unified format optimized for speedy processing. Moreover, it introduces a transport protocol known as Apache Arrow Flight, which significantly reduces serialization/deserialization bottlenecks often encountered when transferring data over the network within a distributed system or between different systems. This integration of Apache Arrow at the heart of Dremio's architecture enhances its query performance, making it a powerful tool for data analytics.
4. Columnar Cloud Cache
One common bottleneck in querying a data lake based on object storage is the latency experienced when retrieving a large number of objects from storage. Additionally, each individual request can incur a cost, contributing to the overall storage access expenses. Dremio addresses these challenges with its C3 (Columnar Cloud Cache) feature, which caches frequently accessed data on the NVMe memory of nodes within the Dremio cluster. This caching mechanism enables rapid access to data during subsequent query executions that require the same information. As a result, the more queries that are run, the more efficient Dremio becomes. This not only enhances query performance over time but also reduces costs, making Dremio an increasingly cost-effective and faster solution as usage grows. This anti-fragile nature of Dremio, where it strengthens and improves with stress or demand, is a significant advantage for organizations looking to optimize their data querying capabilities.
3. Reflections
Other engines often rely on materialized views and BI extracts to accelerate queries, which can require significant manual effort to maintain. This process creates a broader array of objects that data analysts must track and understand when to use. Moreover, many platforms cannot offer this acceleration across all their compatible data sources.
In contrast, Dremio introduces a unique feature called Reflections, which simplifies query acceleration without adding to the management workload of engineers or expanding the number of namespaces analysts need to be aware of. Reflections can be applied to any table or view within Dremio, allowing for the materialization of rows or the aggregation of calculations on the dataset.
For data engineers, Dremio automates the management of these materializations, treating them as Iceberg tables that can be intelligently substituted when a query that would benefit from them is detected. Data analysts, on the other hand, continue to query tables and build dashboards as usual, without needing to navigate additional namespaces. They will, however, experience noticeable performance improvements immediately, without any extra effort. This streamlined approach not only enhances efficiency but also significantly reduces the complexity typically associated with optimizing query performance.
2. Semantic Layer
Many query engines and data warehouses lack the capability to offer an organized, user-friendly interface for end users, a feature known as a semantic layer. This layer is crucial for providing logical, intuitive views for understanding and discovering data. Without this feature, organizations often find themselves needing to integrate services from additional vendors, which can introduce a complex web of dependencies and potential conflicts to manage.
Dremio stands out by incorporating an easy-to-use semantic layer within its lakehouse platform. This feature allows users to organize and document data from all sources into a single, coherent layer, facilitating data discovery. Beyond organization, Dremio enables robust data governance through role-based, column-based, and row-based access controls, ensuring users can only access the data they are permitted to view.
This semantic layer enhances collaboration across data teams, offering a unified access point that supports the implementation of data-centric architectures like data mesh. By streamlining data access and collaboration, Dremio not only makes data more discoverable and understandable but also ensures a secure and controlled data environment, aligning with best practices in data management and governance.
5. Hybrid Architecture
Many contemporary data tools focus predominantly on cloud-based data, sidelining the vast reserves of on-premise data that cannot leverage these modern solutions. Dremio, however, stands out by offering the capability to access on-premise data sources in addition to cloud data. This flexibility allows Dremio to unify on-premise and cloud data sources, facilitating seamless migrations between different systems. With Dremio, organizations can enhance their on-premise data by integrating it with the wealth of data available in cloud data marketplaces, all without the need for data movement. This approach not only broadens the scope of data resources available to businesses but also enables a more integrated and comprehensive data strategy, accommodating the needs of organizations with diverse data environments.
Conclusion
Apache Iceberg and Dremio are spearheading a transformative shift in data management and analysis. Apache Iceberg's innovative features, such as partition evolution, hidden partitioning, advanced versioning, and an open-source culture, set it apart in the realm of data table formats, offering flexibility, efficiency, and a collaborative development environment. On the other hand, Dremio's data lakehouse platform leverages these strengths and further enhances the data management experience with its integrated SQL query engine, semantic layer, and unique features like Reflections and the C3 Columnar Cloud Cache.
By providing a unified platform that addresses the challenges of both on-premise and cloud data, Dremio eliminates the complexity and fragmentation often associated with data analytics. However, while this layout allows for better flow and light distribution, it can sometimes lack definition or distinct areas designated for specific functions. This is where the notion of defining zones comes into play. Defining zones helps to visually separate different areas within an open plan living space without compromising its overall openness. By incorporating various techniques such as furniture placement, flooring changes, rugs, and lighting to visually separate different areas or decorative elements, homeowners can effectively delineate different sections such as the living room, dining space, and kitchen according to their purpose. For example, a dining area can be demarcated by placing a rug under the dining table or using pendant lights overhead to create a focal point. By doing so, you create a sense of purpose and functionality for each zone while maintaining an overall cohesive feel. Consider Traffic Flo When it comes to designing your home, the concept of merging different areas together brings a sense of spaciousness and connectivity, creating a fluid and versatile living environment. However, amidst the excitement of an open plan living floor, one crucial element is often overlooked: traffic flow. Understanding how people will move through the space is essential for ensuring functionality and comfort. Traffic flow refers to the movement patterns within a room or between different spaces in a house. It involves considering how people will navigate through the area and ensuring that there are no obstructions or bottlenecks that hinder movement. By carefully analyzing traffic flow, you can optimize your open plan layout to create seamless transitions between areas while maximizing both usability and aesthetics; however, ensure you avoid blocking access points. Harmonize Color Palette To create a harmonious and visually cohesive open plan living area, choose a consistent color palette that complements each other. Opting for shades that belong to the same color family or have similar undertones can help create a cohesive look throughout the space. For example, pairing warm neutrals like beige and taupe with cool greys or blues can provide balance and visual interest. Alternatively, opt for a neutral base color and then add pops of accent colors to create interest and define individual areas. This color scheme will help tie the space together, creating a sense of unity and balance. Coordinate Flooring Flooring plays a crucial role in open plan living as it visually connects the different zones. The key to successful coordination lies in selecting flooring materials that complement each other while defining distinct zones within the open plan layout creating a seamless flow, and making the area appear larger. For instance, using hardwood or laminate floors throughout can create a sense of continuity and visually expand smaller spaces. To define specific areas, such as dining or living spaces, homeowners can opt for tiles or carpets with varying textures and patterns, adding personality without compromising unity. In addition to aesthetics, coordinating flooring also serves functional purposes. Utilize Furniture Placement Without careful consideration of furniture placement, your open plan living space can quickly turn into a chaotic and cluttered area. By strategically arranging your furniture, you can maximize the functionality and aesthetic appeal of your open plan layout. Firstly, consider the natural flow of movement within the space. Arrange your furniture in a way that allows for easy navigation from one area to another. Avoid blocking pathways or placing large pieces in the middle of walkways. Instead, position sofas and chairs against walls or use them as dividers to define separate zones while still maintaining an open feel or position furniture in a way that forms natural boundaries. Be mindful of scale and proportions to maintain an open and spacious feel, avoiding overcrowding or blocking sightlines. In addition to creating a smooth traffic flow, think about how you can optimize each zone's purpose within your open plan layout. Incorporate Multi-Functional Pieces Maximizing the functionality and versatility of your open plan living space is essential for creating a harmonious and efficient environment. One effective way to achieve this is by incorporating multi-function pieces of furniture. These innovative designs not only save space but also provide multiple uses, allowing you to make the most out of every square inch. Choose pieces that can serve multiple purposes, such as a storage ottoman with hidden storage compartments that are perfect for storing blankets, pillows, or even books while doubling as extra seating when needed. A dining table with built-in storage and extending pieces or a sofa bed can serve as both a comfortable seating option during the day and an additional sleeping area for guests at night. This dual-purpose piece of furniture eliminates the need for a separate guest bedroom, making it ideal for those with limited square footage. These versatile pieces will help you make the most of your space while reducing clutter. Control Acoustics The absence of walls and partitions can lead to challenges in controlling acoustics in open plan living. Unwanted noise from various activities - cooking, watching TV, or children playing - can easily travel across the entire space, causing disturbances and hindering relaxation. Fortunately, there are effective solutions available that allow homeowners to maintain the aesthetic appeal of an open plan layout while ensuring optimal sound control. To prevent noise from echoing throughout the space, consider incorporating sound-absorbing materials such as rugs and curtains. Additionally, arranging furniture strategically can help create visual and physical barriers that aid in sound control. One key solution is the strategic use of room dividers or acoustic panels. These stylish additions not only add visual interest but also help absorb excess sound waves, minimizing echoes and reverberations within the space. Add Cohesive Lighting Well-planned lighting is crucial in open plan living to create ambiance and define different areas. Whether you have a spacious loft, a large house or a small apartment, strategically placed lights can transform your space into a harmonious oasis. By adding cohesive lighting, you can enhance the functionality and aesthetics of your open plan living area. One way to achieve cohesive lighting is to use layers of light throughout the space. Start by installing ambient lighting fixtures such as recessed lights or pendant lights that provide overall illumination. These fixtures should be evenly spaced to ensure an even distribution of light. Next, incorporate task lighting for specific areas such as reading nooks or kitchen countertops. This type of lighting helps provide focused light where it's needed the most. Finally, add accent lighting to highlight architectural features, artwork, or focal points within the room. Ensure that the lighting fixtures complement each other in terms of style and consistency. Conclusion Mastering open plan living is all about finding the right balance between cohesion and functionality. By defining zones, considering traffic flow, harmonizing colors, coordinating flooring, utilizing furniture placement, incorporating multi-functional pieces, controlling acoustics, and adding cohesive lighting, you can create a successful open plan living space that is both visually stunning and highly functional. Embrace the versatility and freedom that open plan living offers, and enjoy the spaciousness and connectedness of your home. Read the full article

Is Consciousness Primary to Reality? (2021 Documentary) If you haven’t seen this yet, it is well worth watching. I have notes...
3:40 "Physics tells us not what matter is but only what it does."Here I would go further and say that physics tells us not what matter is, but only what it does to matter.
Around 24:00, the video gets in to IIT. Here too, my view is that the role of consciousness is underestimated. To say that reality has a physical and mental pole is a good start, but we should understand that these poles can only exist in the latter "mental" pole of conscious experience. It is true that "a complex mind" correlates with "a complex organization with the specific capacity of aggregating a fundamental aspect of consciousness" (23:20), however I would not say that correlation is an absolute requirement. While I agree with the earlier statement at 23:12 that no serious thinker has defended any claim for conscious minds in rocks, tables, and chairs, the reason for that in my view is not because the physical structure lacks the complexity to permit it.
My view takes in to account the significance of scales of time and size in creating parallel layers of conscious experience that make up the universe. In my view, it makes more sense to see the correlation between the increasingly complex structure of nervous systems through evolution and the richness and depth of conscious experience as being driven more by conscious experience needing to record and manipulate itself rather than anything like a mind 'emerging' from structural complexity.
The chair is not conscious, but I think the same is true of any object. The brain is not conscious either. The brain is an organ that produces ideal chemical conditions for sophisticated conscious experiences to be expressed and realized for other sophisticated conscious experiences to interact with without merging completely with each other. The brain is part of a vertebrate body, which is part of a history of conscious experience going back more than 500 million years. A chair or a table is, in one sense, carved out of wood or some other material by a Homo sapien body's brain and hands, but in another sense, it is one continuous history of conscious experience that is carving new experiences out of conscious experiences that are older, but still ongoing on another timescale, and using them as props to enhance experiences in the human centric umwelt.
In my Multisense Realism conjectures, I have tried to lay out a cosmogony of scales of physical spacing/timing with scales of psychological depth/richness such that our anthropological umwelt is nested within and permeated by the older onion layers of consciousness using bodies/brains on a zoological, biological, chemical, and physical scales of size and frequency of perceptual sample rate (Diagrams like these are some of the many drafts I've hypothesized https://multisenserealism.com/art-charts-and-diagrams/current/).
To ask whether a chair or table is conscious is to assume that what what we see as an image of furniture, and touch as an object of solid matter is all that these things are. Once we factor in the hypothesis of timescales as intentional partitions of subjective and objective seeming worlds (umwelts and welts), a spectrum of realism can be devised which reflects a universal spectrum of perceptual access. This is very much along the lines of what has been proposed in many other scientific and prescientific mappings of awareness, as Ken Wilber documented in his book Integral Sprituality, and which Robert Anton Wilson and Timothy Leary wrote about as the Eight Circuit Model. These models draw on both Western and Eastern metaphysics including Numerology, Astrology, Tarot, I Ching, as well as psychological theories of development from Gebser, Maslow, Binet and many others.
With Multisense Realism, I have sketched out a way to integrate these essential-existential correlations with quantum mechanics, relativity, and semiotic theory to arrive at a conjecture of entropy-negentropy as symptoms of the lensing of conscious experiences, separating them in some sense while uniting them in others, and producing a dynamically growing vocabulary of aesthetic Significance.
From the perspective of consciousness on a celestial timescale, where planets spin like electrons and solar systems proliferate like cells, it would seem absurd that any such thing as human consciousness could exist. The thin biosphere and its mold-like bits of greenery would seem far too small and simple to host conscious experiences.
I don't deny that in practice, IIT-like correlations between the symptom of integration of physical functions and the condition of someone's personal awareness are reliable and pragmatic, but I suspect that this reliability is built into the animal scale experience rather than being a universal necessity for conscious experience to exist. In my view, it is not that things that we see and touch have consciousness in different degrees, it is that our consciousness has different degrees of overlap with a universal spectrum of perceptual access and identification.
I think that the implications from info-centric views of consciousness are misleading, and in fact, no technological artifact is any more conscious than a Teddy Bear or an emoji. This is not because of any bias for biological organizations of matter over technological organizations of inorganic matter, but rather than biological appearances are an expression of a type of experience that is of another order of magnitude of aesthetic richness (Significance) than experiences that are expressed pre-biologically in our perception. The Uncanny Valley is there for a reason - even if that sense of revulsion for imitations of life is not infallible.
In my view, any use of an object as a machine is by definition the use of a low-level aspect of a conscious experience on a distant timescale, and therefore diametrically opposite to sentience. The whole point of a machine is that it automatically serves our purposes, not that it develops its own competing agendas. A truly intelligent artifact would not be a machine, but a potential competitor to biological life itself. Its agency would be uncontrollable by definition. True intelligence necessarily includes the potential for consciousness to step out of its programming and conditioning, and to change itself directly through intrinsic degrees of freedom in its own participatory experience of 'will'.Later on in the video, the combination problem is discussed. My solution here is to re-frame the assumption of cosmic evolution as occurring through an arrow of change from simplicity to complexity, and see it instead as equally an evolution by diffraction or division-by-self-similarity.
Seeing how an embryo develops through the division and multiplication of a single cell, and how a faceted gem multiplies the image of the sun or other illumination source without diluting the source, we can begin to see how the half of the universe that modernity has increasingly hidden from us might work. I recommend these two classic videos about this dichotomy of diffracted holism vs emergent combination. My stroke of insight - Jill Bolte Taylor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyyjU8fzEYU Iain McGilchrist - The Divided Brain and the Making of the Western World - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbUHxC4wiWk
Another couple of classics I recommend to follow my trail of breadcrumbs to Multisense Realism are these: Cosmos - Carl Sagan - 4th Dimension (Abbott's Flatland thought experiment) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnURElCzGc0 Powers of Ten (1977) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fKBhvDjuy0
At 32:00 the video gets in to Philip Goff's Cosmopsychism, in which the fundamental unit of nature is the totality of nature itself. This is a logical inference from the idea of diffraction and top-down causation. Multisense Realism is a form of cosmopsychism, but with less emphasis on psyche and more on qualia: Sense and sense making experience can give rise to more complex histories of awareness that begin to have our familiar quality of personhood, but there may be many other paths down which conscious experience develops itself. My view is more of a cosmoastheticism with participatory tendencies. Understanding the bias of "smallism" is critical. The Multisense Realism view is that smallism and large-ism are both aspects of tangible-ism, but that the full picture of nature requires that tangibility always be experienced from a perspective that is trans-tangible by definition. Nothing is a tangible object in its own native timescale and frame of perception.
Another idea that I have tried to illustrate here is that the smallest and largest sheafs of tangibility have more in common with each other than they do the next largest and smallest scale-sheafs/holons. As we move into the center of the cosmic onion, the core meso-centric sheaf is the most fertile and rich context of experience, much as the clear white center of the visible spectrum is the most direct and complete access to visibility.

bts astro soulmate reading | for brie
sign: aries sun | taurus moon | cancer rising
lover: Jung Hoseok | soulmate: Kim Seokjin
This reading is for Brie, a Jin bias with Namjoon as a wrecker. I can’t tell you how much Iove a woman that loves our fine ass hyungs. Thanks for waiting, and please enjoy <3
Tumblr media
Those born under an Aries Sun and Taurus Moon are a truly powerful force and are considered one of the prized fighters of the zodiac. You are extremely independent and move through the world on your own terms, craving stability - both emotionally and financially - but also artistic and creative expression/freedom, traits which are often at odds with each other. Your Aries Sun is spontaneous, excitable, and determined while your Taurus Moon you patient, grounded, and rooted in reason. While you may have struggled with striking a balance between these two ideals throughout your life, over time it is likely that you've learned to harness your enthusiasm and focus, understanding how to both dream and do in a practical manner. Your watery Cancer rising brings softness and raw emotion to the tangible, grounded nature of your fire and earthy persona. While you are extremely driven towards your goals, Cancer makes you outwardly emotional, expressing your wide range of moods, making you inherently human and more endearing to everyone in your orbit. Highly charming, charismatic, and emotionally intelligent, you are a natural born leader amongst your friends, family and colleagues, likely finding ways to merge your need for artistry and creativity with something that draws a profit. You know how to speak simply about your many entrepreneurial ideas, but with an energy that makes people believe that your words hold authenticity and weight. And as a true caring and sensitive nature of your Cancer rising, that sincerity is your super power.
You, dear Aries, know how to get what you want in life without being overly pushy or manipulative, your passionate yet calm nature typically making people see things your way. This comes in handy in your work life where you lead teams and spearhead projects but also in any social setting. Your demeanor naturally attracts swaths of new fans and admirers in spaces where your communication prowess is able to shine. As a result, you are a bit spoiled - your Taurus moon is quite stubborn and occasionally inflexible when faced with opposing opinions while your Cancer rising makes you particularly sensitive to others viewpoints. While at a dinner party with some coworkers you can't help but feel your blood boiling as you sit across the table from Jung Hoseok, a mutual acquaintance and the life of the party whose sole purpose seems to be to toy with you, playfully pressing your buttons and watching you come undone. He is opinionated, unapologetic, smart, and not hanging off of every word you say - offering up valid retorts to your arguments and having fun doing it. Loving a challenge, you can't can't help but find yourself trying to bring him to see your side of things, resulting in an intellectual sparring match that everyone else can't help but observe. You can't help but be drawn to his striking features as he retorts: the sharpness of his jaw, the darkness of his eyes, his clearly intelligent mind and charisma to match yours. Your Taurus Moon and Cancer rising generally makes you more of a romantic, valuing a long-term relationship over a short term fling with a handsome stranger. But there is something about Hoseok: you don't know much about him, but you definitely want to fuck his brains out sooner rather than later.
Luckily, that is exactly what this Aquarius has in mind as he calls for his car after leaving the second bar where you've ended your night, his hands moving steadily up your back and lets out hisses against your neck. You melt into his grip, your hard Cancer shell crumbling while he whispers into your ear. Show me more of that fire, won't you? And you do, shoving him against the leather interior of his backseat as his fingers move to roll up the partition. In mere seconds you are devouring each other, his mouth moving from your lips to your neck and down to your nipples, licking each one and making you shudder before slipping his fingers beneath the fabric of your skirt and your panties. You can feel his hardness pressed between your legs, and want nothing more than to feel him deeper as his fingers expertly work your clit before finding your center. Eyes locked, you fuck yourself against his fingers while he stares up at you with awe and pure, unadulterated lust. In this moment and the weeks that follow you two are in game of who can drive each other the craziest, your competitive egos more than happy to play. This is the first in a series of wild nights of you getting fucked in various public locations - bars, restaurant bathrooms, dressing rooms - his fingers in your mouth as he stifles your frenzied moans as he makes you cum back to back. Your inhibitions cease to exist when Hoseok is involved, igniting a certain energy in you that has you practically always craving his cock.
For Aquarius Hoseok, sex is a sport, a means of expressing energy and physicality and not necessarily love in the way that you would prefer. His Mars is in Aquarius, making him at times detached and impulsive in relationships. You are impatient, wanting more of a commitment after so much incredible sex and time spent while Hoseok only plays on his terms and no one else's. Ultimately, you can recognize are interested in a more traditional, solidified relationship which the airy, less emotional Aquarius can provide. While your emotional disconnect does not equip you for long-term love, the sex is something that you can't (and don't) give up easily, reuniting with him whenever you see his name pop across your phone. I land tomorrow, can I take you out? You never say no.
One of the main pleasure-seekers of the zodiac, your sign is often seeking out life's finest things from sex and food to travel and new experiences. Your refined taste lends itself to adventures including international jaunts (Aries kryptonite) and of course the most delicious food a city has to offer. It is no surprise when, on a trip of Seoul, that you find yourself booked at the restaurant owned by the infamous Kim Seokjin - its had nothing but rave reviews. Its on this particular night that the owner is making a surprise appearance as a maitre'd, a no-phones policy keeping the vibe intimate but still lively and high-spirited. You are drawn to his effortless Sagittarius confidence, the way that he so easily plays to the guests and the fans that occupy each table as the soju flows and the delicious scenes float around the room. As one of the last tables to dine, an adorably tipsy and flushed Seokjin slides into your booth, asks you how you enjoyed yourself. In the moment it is hard for for you to pretend that you were focusing on anything else that night but the breadth of his shoulders in his button up, the way sweat formed on his brow as he sauntered from table to table, or the generally perfect nature of his face. You are both sugar and spice, singing high praises of the meal and atmosphere while flashing him a fiery stare, suggesting you're interested in more than food. Seokjin bites, equally curious in getting to know what lies beneath that Capricorn exterior. I'm hosting a smaller gathering for my chef to present a new tasting menu - would love to have you.
Your Aries and Jin's Sagittarius Suns have multitudes of acquaintances but only few close friends, and are not ones to commit to anyone or anything too soon emotionally. Yes, you're both big softies beneath a cool exterior but you have been hurt before and therefore have incredibly high standards for the people you involve yourself with romantically. As a result, your dates are proper and curated and of course competitive - think go-carting or mini golf and a four-course dinner, and a chance to get to really know each other beyond the physical even if its just a few dates (you're both impatient). You can hardly wait when you find yourself backed against his front door after you return from that evening's date, a whimper escaping you as he pushes his body firmly against yours as he leans in to trace your lips with his. Stopping just short of a kiss, he smiles at your desperation. I'm going to show you how much I hate losing. You're happy to show him up more often if it means more nights like this: your legs pinned up by your shoulders as Jin thrusts into you softly and deeply until you're cumming mercilessly onto his cock, grabbing onto his thick hair and broad back to stabilize yourself. The hot sex launches you into a relationship that starts off very fun, light-hearted but over time moves into something more serious - something you both likely didn't expect but are happy to fall into.
Jin's Saturn in Aquarius makes him a very diligent, dedicated worker - its one contributor to his major career success - and he likes to enjoy the benefits of his hard work. He very much a provider in the traditional sense, in that he wants to take care of the ones he loves with no questions asked. Jin is happy to provide you with the financial stability you require, as long as it makes you free to pursue more creative, perhaps less lucrative endeavors. For the Sagittarius man in love, you can't put a price tag on joy - the limit does not exist, and this is only aided by his romantic Capricorn Venus which just wants to make you smile by any means necessary. It is not that he is your sugar daddy by any means, he just instinctively wants to anything to make you happy. He enjoys watching your face light up while talking about a new entrepreneurial endeavor and ways to boost your shared wealth, our mind working a mile a minute as you work through your many ideas that he thinks are both crazy and brilliant. You often struggle to recognize your greatness and unlock your potential, something Seokjin's Aries Moon sees and understands on a deep level. His Aries Moon can make him impatient with you and relentless in making you see what he sees.
It's worth mentioning that while Aries holds their own in any relationship, your Taurus Moon is innately turned on by his ability to take care of you financially. He has no issue showering you with affection, gifts, or whatever you need - his Capricorn Venus pairing well with your Cancer rising which is the embodiment of sensitivity, emotion and romance. For you, sex is a way in which you express your love, thinking of ways to satisfy and be satisfied in return. Even when you're the one dressed head to toe in an angelic impossibly gorgeous white lingerie set he bought you when he walks through the door, you hold the reigns. I want to take care of you, baby. Let me do that, please? Your dynamic in bed is naturally one where you are more dominant, with Seokjin happy to lean back against the couch cushions and submit while you lower your lips onto his cock, your tongue swirling around the tip just how he likes it. Nothing is hotter to you than looking up at him, his eyes fixated on your lips as you swallow him - his groans picking up in fervor as you work your way up and down his length. Only you know how to get him this incredibly hard, practically ready to lose it before you climb on top of him sliding the fabric of your stockings to the side so you can take him in. The sex here is sexy but sweet, his lips sucking on your sensitive nipples as his hands gently roam your body to heighten the sensation of your bodies together. I like to think that Jin has a bit of a breeding kink, one that you're happy to indulge, his strong hands frantically gripping your hips and sweet nothings pouring out of his lips as he finishes in you. I love you so much, baby, so fucking much. Jin is insatiable, so there will always be rounds.
Aries and Sagittarius are two of the most passionate signs in the zodiac and you both need someone who endlessly fuels their respective fires. While their interests and careers may take them around the globe and to great heights, you two never stop having fun together. Once these signs go for it, they truly commit to making the best of their partnership, keeping the spark alive by all means necessary: with silly dance parties and hot tub sex in your winter chalet after days of snowboarding in Aspen. You require your finances and relationships, both romantic and familial, to be solid before you can focus on other areas of life, often obsessing over making sure these pieces are in place (looking at you, Taurus moon!) Luckily, Sag Jin is able to take your mind off of the money and onto less serious matters so you can enjoy all of life's little pleasures, of which he knows there are many. With your inner Aries/Taurus worlds battling for stability and adventure, your home needs to reflect each of these proclivities. Luckily, this sense of excitement and responsibility is something that you and Jin share, and you can both take comfort in knowing you could easily spend your Monday night curled up with a favorite movie or jetting off to Jeju Island for a day trip. Together, you cultivate a warm and inviting home that reflects your many travels and adventures, alongside all of the creature comforts you both need (RJ plushes galore). This pairing is one of uniqueness and a learned ability to not care what anyone thinks, allowing you to live peacefully in your own perfectly quirky, fun and beautiful world. Together, the fire of Aries and spontaneous, highly adaptable nature of Sag makes for a strong duo that can achieve great things so long as they have a business manager handling all of their affairs - making sure they don't go too overboard along the way.

Kiss Me, Kill Me
A kiss. A bad reaction. The aftermath, and how Unit Bravo deals with the potential loss of Detective Charlotte Langford from their little group. Inspired by this ask to @twc-thoughts-you-didnt-ask-for.
Chapter 7
Adam du Mortain x f!detective approx. wc: 2030 rating: t warnings: none Read it on Ao3
The Warehouse Common Room, Several Days Later
A broken ankle. This is why she never takes vacation. Three days off for some R&R and she comes back with a broken ankle and a round the clock protection detail because there’s a price on her head and she can’t exactly hobble away at any great speed. Maybe she could just brain an attacker with a crutch instead, but that’s a bit beyond her basic combat training.
This is the last time she takes Tina’s advice. She’s fairly certain she’s said before. She means it this time.
At least she’s still being kept in the loop. Rebecca made sure to include her specifically, even if she isn’t entirely sure why she’s here. She avoids looking at Adam, standing in his usual place by the fireplace, as she sits in one of the armchairs. It would be hard to get a peek in, anyway, what with Nate’s fussing over her while trying very hard to look like he isn’t fussing, and Farah watching her like a cat tracking a nice, fat pigeon. Morgan is acting blessedly unconcerned, perched in a dark corner.
Thank God it’s her turn to babysit tomorrow. I might actually have space to breathe.
“The situation has changed with the coven,” Rebecca explains, and Charlotte isn’t entirely sure why she’s here. The witches in question are a long way from Wayhaven, and they have requested some assistance with something apparently outside of her clearance level. “They’ve requested assistance from the team that worked with Detective Langford.”
She frowns, processing the fact that a coven of witches halfway across the continent know her by name. “Just the team, though,” she looks to Rebecca to confirm. “Not the detective?”
Her mother nods. “Correct.”
“Then, while I appreciate being kept in the loop,” she offers a slight nod of acknowledgement to Rebecca for her efforts, “I don’t see how I can help with this.”
Rebecca accepts the nod. “Your protection, and that of Wayhaven, is still Unit Bravo’s primary assignment.” She continues, “It has been decided that Agent Sewell will take the team to meet with the coven. Commanding Agent du Mortain will assume all duties with regards to your protection until their return.”
She gapes at Rebecca. I can’t have heard that right, she thinks, even as she hears Adam’s tense, “Understood.”
No, apparently I heard that right . Christ.
Her feelings must show on her face, because Rebecca is looking over at her with some concern, “Is that a problem?”
No, no problem. Who wouldn’t want to spend nearly every waking minute crammed into a small apartment with the person who kissed them and then rejected them within the span of, oh, 30-60 seconds? Why would that be a problem?
But she is not losing face like this, not in front of Rebecca, and definitely not in front of him. Not a goddamn chance.
“No,” she shakes her head, impressed with her own ability to keep her tone neutral.
“Good.” Rebecca nods, her mind clearly already with the rest of her briefing notes for the team, “I’ll see you tomorrow for lunch.”
She recognizes a dismissal when she sees one. Charlotte gets to her feet, and begins making her way to the agency vehicle she and Nate had ridden to the Warehouse in. She feels, rather than hears, Adam following her, completely silent in spite of his bulk, like the world’s most corporeal ghost. He opens the door of the SUV for her and hovers awkwardly as she hauls herself into the passenger seat - like he’s not sure if he should be offering help. It takes a bit of work, these SUVs aren’t exactly close to the ground, and she’s only got one good leg, but eventually she manages, pulling her crutches up beside her. He closes the door, and she pinches the bridge of her nose as he walks around to the driver’s side.
It’s going to be a long day.
The Detective’s Apartment, Evening, Three Days Later
She has about two-and-a-half nerves left, each of them frayed, and his continued existence in her space is getting on all of them.
He has her coffee ready at the table in the morning, before she’s finished getting dressed. Exactly the way she likes it. He has Timbit’s feeding schedule memorized, has the cat food in the bowl exactly on time, before she can even stand up to get it. He has the bottle of painkillers in front of her before her reminder alarms go off. Yesterday, her lunch had been delivered to her desk before she even placed the order at Hayley’s. He knew her order. And that she ordered from Hayley’s on Tuesdays. All without her having to say a goddamn word.
She’s barely had to lift a finger for herself in three days. In any other context - well, mostly in the context she’d thought they’d been in a few months ago - it would have been kind of sweet. Maybe.
Now it’s just fucking infuriating.
He’d swept her dinner dishes off the table and had them washed and in the drying rack almost before she could finish blinking, leaving her staring through the partition between the living space and the kitchen at him where he stands with a tea towel in his hand, drying a glass. And there’s an image that sends a lonely twisting feeling through her heart.
Like she still wants him. Like she still wants him like this. In her home. Taking care of her. Being domestic. Like maybe she’s not as over him as she wants to believe.
He catches her looking, and she turns to scowl at the wall. Fuck.
“What the hell is going on?” The words just slip out.
He turns from where he’d just finished returning her plate to its place. She hadn’t needed to tell him which cupboard. Down to two nerves, then.
“Is something wrong, Detective?” He seems perplexed. She wonders if he’s actually that oblivious.
She looks at him, gestures to the towel in his hands, “This. What the hell is going on with this?”
“You’re injured,” he says. Like that explains everything.
“I have a broken ankle. You’re acting like I’m completely incapable of doing anything for myself!”
“I was simply trying to make things easier for you.”
There really isn’t a good response to that. Because it’s a perfectly reasonable thing to say. But she’s not in a space where she needs a good response to justify being angry. She’s in a space where even a perfectly reasonable thing is more than enough to set her off, when it’s coming from him.
“For fuck’s sake,” she mutters, bracing her hands on the table and heaving herself to stand on her good leg. She grabs her crutches from where they lean on the wall, and twists towards the couch, turning her back on him and the kitchen. But one of the crutches catches on the table leg, and she can feel her balance slipping…
And then he’s there, hands on her elbows, gently setting her straight. She swears they linger for a second, and she squeezes her eyes shut tight, because no, no they can’t be there, he can’t be touching me and I CAN’T WANT HIM TO, and then his hands are gone, and it’s safe to open her eyes. Safe to see him standing right in front of her with his hands extended towards her and that way he has of looking at her like he’d hand her the world on a plate if she asked for it and she can feel her arms tingling where his hands had been and her heart pounding in her chest and…
“I’m sorry.” His voice is soft.
She presses her lips together, swallows hard, trying to get herself under control. She shrugs, not quite meeting his eye, “It’s probably better that I didn’t fall over.” She hates how choked her voice sounds.
“That’s not what I meant.”
She closes her eyes for a brief moment. Oh good. We’re doing this now . Because this is when I want to have this conversation . “Then what are you sorry for?”
“For how I behaved.” He’s standing a little closer now. Is he? Maybe. Or maybe that’s just how she’s seeing him. It’s not his size. Just his...presence. He seems to drown everything else out. “That night.”
She feels the prickle in her nose, the burn in her eyes. But she will not cry in front of him. She absolutely will not cry in front of him. So she casts her eyes to the ceiling instead, shaking her head.
“Charlotte.” He says her name like he always does. Reverent, like it’s sacred.
And that does it, she feels the first drop slip down her cheek. Fuck it. He’s seen her almost bleed out. What difference does it make if he sees her cry.
“Why?” she whispers. It’s all she can think to ask, hopes he understands what she means. Why did you do it? Which part are you sorry for?
“I…” He’s looking down, brows knit, hands clenching and unclenching. He looks back up at her, eyes flicking back and forth as he looks between hers. “I was afraid.”
And you think I haven’t been?
She shakes her head, just a little, “Did it help?”
“No.”
Oh God.
She collapses back into the chair that she’d just left, too overwhelmed to react when he drops to his knees in front of her.
“I know that I don’t deserve your forgiveness,” he says.
A sound that’s something like a laugh, something like a sigh, breaks through her tears. She has a brief flicker of a memory: Tina asking her a question, something about him being on his knees begging for her forgiveness, something about how she’d never believed there would be a chance that that would happen. It merges with the current situation and leaves her feeling like the world is tilting slightly. It’s all too goddamn absurd.
She rests her elbow on the table, her head on her hand as she looks down at him. He’s close enough that her toes are almost brushing his knees. “What would you even do if you had it?”
“Whatever you wished of me.”
A simple statement. That’s his way, isn’t it? The simplest statement that could mean anything or everything. But she’s tired. Tired from her pain and tired from work and and tired from heart-ache and tired from trying to parse the meaning of his simple statements.
“What does that even mean?” she asks.
“I...If you tell me that you wish to remain colleagues, it means that. If…” she watches him close his eyes and swallow, hard, before looking back up at her, and his gaze is soft, warm, “If there was a time when we could have been something more...if that is something that you still want…”
It’s a pretty promise, but… she sighs, “It’s not just me that has to want that, Adam.”
“It isn’t just you.” He looks …young, somehow, kneeling on the floor in front of her. Young and sweet and heart-breakingly earnest and her heart lurches in her chest towards him, even as her mind screams at her to get a grip. Because how long has she been waiting to hear this. Even when she thought she was done with waiting. And she can’t stop the smile that spreads across her face, even as the tears are flowing unchecked down her cheeks.
“Goddamn it,” she huffs a little laugh, “yes. Yes. It’s something that I still want.”
He offers her a wry half-smile, “I confess, I was hoping for a little more enthusiasm.”
She laughs at that, feels it bubble up her throat and she rolls her eyes with relief as it escapes her lips, “And I was hoping for a quiet night, so I guess we’re both disappointed.”
His smile broadens, and she sees the hint of dimples in his cheeks as he reaches up, brushes the tears from her face with the backs of his knuckles. She feels her eyes drift shut at his touch as he whispers, “I have never been disappointed by you.”

Slow database? It might not be your fault
<rant>
Okay, it usually is your fault. If you logged the SQL your ORM was generating, or saw how you are doing joins in code, or realised what that indexed UUID does to your insert rate etc you’d probably admit it was all your fault. And the fault of your tooling, of course.
In my experience, most databases are tiny.  Tiny tiny.  Tables with a few thousand rows.  If your web app is slow, its going to all be your fault.  Stop building something webscale with microservices and just get things done right there in your database instead.  Etc.
But, quite often, each company has one or two databases that have at least one or two large tables.  Tables with tens of millions of rows.  I work on databases with billions of rows.  They exist.  And that’s the kind of database where your database server is underserving you.  There could well be a metric ton of actual performance improvements that your database is leaving on the table. Areas where your database server hasn’t kept up with recent (as in the past 20 years) of regular improvements in how programs can work with the kernel, for example.
Over the years I’ve read some really promising papers that have speeded up databases.  But as far as I can tell, nothing ever happens.  What is going on?
For example, your database might be slow just because its making a lot of syscalls.  Back in 2010, experiments with syscall batching improved MySQL performance by 40% (and lots of other regular software by similar or better amounts!).   That was long before spectre patches made the costs of syscalls even higher.
So where are our batched syscalls?  I can’t see a downside to them.  Why isn’t linux offering them and glib using them, and everyone benefiting from them?  It’ll probably speed up your IDE and browser too.
Of course, your database might be slow just because you are using default settings.  The historic defaults for MySQL were horrid.  Pretty much the first thing any innodb user had to do was go increase the size of buffers and pools and various incantations they find by googling.  I haven’t investigated, but I’d guess that a lot of the performance claims I’ve heard about innodb on MySQL 8 is probably just sensible modern defaults.
I would hold tokudb up as being much better at the defaults.  That took over half your RAM, and deliberately left the other half to the operating system buffer cache.
That mention of the buffer cache brings me to another area your database could improve.  Historically, databases did ‘direct’ IO with the disks, bypassing the operating system.  These days, that is a metric ton of complexity for very questionable benefit.  Take tokudb again: that used normal buffered read writes to the file system and deliberately left the OS half the available RAM so the file system had somewhere to cache those pages.  It didn’t try and reimplement and outsmart the kernel.
This paid off handsomely for tokudb because they combined it with absolutely great compression.  It completely blows the two kinds of innodb compression right out of the water.  Well, in my tests, tokudb completely blows innodb right out of the water, but then teams who adopted it had to live with its incomplete implementation e.g. minimal support for foreign keys.  Things that have nothing to do with the storage, and only to do with how much integration boilerplate they wrote or didn’t write.  (tokudb is being end-of-lifed by percona; don’t use it for a new project 😞)
However, even tokudb didn’t take the next step: they didn’t go to async IO.  I’ve poked around with async IO, both for networking and the file system, and found it to be a major improvement.  Think how quickly you could walk some tables by asking for pages breath-first and digging deeper as soon as the OS gets something back, rather than going through it depth-first and blocking, waiting for the next page to come back before you can proceed.
I’ve gone on enough about tokudb, which I admit I use extensively.  Tokutek went the patent route (no, it didn’t pay off for them) and Google released leveldb and Facebook adapted leveldb to become the MySQL MyRocks engine.  That’s all history now.
In the actual storage engines themselves there have been lots of advances.  Fractal Trees came along, then there was a SSTable+LSM renaissance, and just this week I heard about a fascinating paper on B+ + LSM beating SSTable+LSM. A user called Jules commented, wondered about B-epsilon trees instead of B+, and that got my brain going too.  There are lots of things you can imagine an LSM tree using instead of SSTable at each level.
But how invested is MyRocks in SSTable?  And will MyRocks ever close the performance gap between it and tokudb on the kind of workloads they are both good at?
Of course, what about Postgres?  TimescaleDB is a really interesting fork based on Postgres that has a ‘hypertable’ approach under the hood, with a table made from a collection of smaller, individually compressed tables.  In so many ways it sounds like tokudb, but with some extra finesse like storing the min/max values for columns in a segment uncompressed so the engine can check some constraints and often skip uncompressing a segment.
Timescaledb is interesting because its kind of merging the classic OLAP column-store with the classic OLTP row-store.  I want to know if TimescaleDB’s hypertable compression works for things that aren’t time-series too?  I’m thinking ‘if we claim our invoice line items are time-series data…’
Compression in Postgres is a sore subject, as is out-of-tree storage engines generally.  Saying the file system should do compression means nobody has big data in Postgres because which stable file system supports decent compression?  Postgres really needs to have built-in compression and really needs to go embrace the storage engines approach rather than keeping all the cool new stuff as second class citizens.
Of course, I fight the query planner all the time.  If, for example, you have a table partitioned by day and your query is for a time span that spans two or more partitions, then you probably get much faster results if you split that into n queries, each for a corresponding partition, and glue the results together client-side!  There was even a proxy called ShardQuery that did that.  Its crazy.  When people are making proxies in PHP to rewrite queries like that, it means the database itself is leaving a massive amount of performance on the table.
And of course, the client library you use to access the database can come in for a lot of blame too.  For example, when I profile my queries where I have lots of parameters, I find that the mysql jdbc drivers are generating a metric ton of garbage in their safe-string-split approach to prepared-query interpolation.  It shouldn’t be that my insert rate doubles when I do my hand-rolled string concatenation approach.  Oracle, stop generating garbage!
This doesn’t begin to touch on the fancy cloud service you are using to host your DB.  You’ll probably find that your laptop outperforms your average cloud DB server.  Between all the spectre patches (I really don’t want you to forget about the syscall-batching possibilities!) and how you have to mess around buying disk space to get IOPs and all kinds of nonsense, its likely that you really would be better off perforamnce-wise by leaving your dev laptop in a cabinet somewhere.
Crikey, what a lot of complaining!  But if you hear about some promising progress in speeding up databases, remember it's not realistic to hope the databases you use will ever see any kind of benefit from it.  The sad truth is, your database is still stuck in the 90s.  Async IO?  Huh no.  Compression?  Yeah right.  Syscalls?  Okay, that’s a Linux failing, but still!
Right now my hopes are on TimescaleDB.  I want to see how it copes with billions of rows of something that aren’t technically time-series.  That hybrid row and column approach just sounds so enticing.
Oh, and hopefully MyRocks2 might find something even better than SSTable for each tier?
But in the meantime, hopefully someone working on the Linux kernel will rediscover the batched syscalls idea…? ;)

Prompt #10: Foster
Tumblr media
and we open up with a shot of the house just like a sitcom
wc: 2,825 (putting word count total here as a warning)
((This is a headcanon I had way back during the great server shuffle. Though my main characters are currently on Sargatanas, I also consider Faerie my second home. I have a private free company there (thanks to @abeat who signed the petition for me :D~) and a cottage in Mist. At some point, long before server merges were announced, I had the idea to make an alt on Siren to take advantage of the Road to 60 buff, level said alt's crafters, then move said alt to Faerie. The first one was Apple, but for various reasons, I stayed off of Apple for a month and missed the Road to 60 buff window to level all the crafters. D'oh! Sometime later, I made Yet Another Alt - Azrael - to accomplish the same thing. Thanks to @abeat again (she is such a sweetie, I swear...) I created another FC to pass items between Apple and Az. Apple created levekit items, Az leveled very quickly, especially thanks to Road to 60, and he succeeded to get all his crafters to 60.
That's the IRL backstory. This is the headcanon I had in regards to moving the Siren characters to Faerie, the novelty of the One Lone Boy, and said One Lone Boy's social anxiety.))
[1]
The xaela, Xiaoning Shou, drummed her large stack of papers on the table until they stacked together evenly. "That about covers this meeting's topics--oh! No, wait. One more thing!"
A green-haired viera, Alto Aria, and a pink-haired lalafell, Princess Kneesaa, tilted their heads to the side in perfect synch.
"Concerning the upcoming, ah, move incentives, and the subsequent pending of three new members to our tiny free company, Vermilion Forest, I have some good news, some bad news, and some interesting news. Which news did you all want to hear first?"
Alto took a long sip of her tea. "Bad news? Oh dear. Let me finish this cup first."
Kneesaa folded her hands together on the table as a princess would when bracing herself for unpleasant news. "Please to tell us all the bad news firstly. Get it out of our way."
"Well, I got ahold of Apple Gardenia, our contact in the, um, other realm, and she said she couldn't get the amount of skill level required for the free company recruit message. Which, as a reminder, was to get all of her disciples of hand to a high enough standard." Xiaoning held up her hand to the other two before they had anything to add. "However! She raised an apprentice who can make us guildleve kits! And has mastered every disciple of the hand to a high enough level! Even beyond what we asked for! That's the good news. Now here comes the interesting news."
Alto and Kneesaa leaned in.
"It's..."
Alto and Kneesaa leaned in further.
"... a boy."
Alto and Kneesaa fell over.
"A boy?!" Alto clenched her hands together.
"In our all-girl free company?" Kneesaa chimed in.
"Vermilion Forest just happened to be all-girl by coincidence..." Xiaoning started but was promptly cut off as Alto and Kneesaa stood to their full heights and slammed their hands on the table.
"Oh gods, do we have to allot a separate bathroom for him?" Alto asked.
"Our bathrooms are gender neutral, just like my inn--"
"What's his name?" Kneesaa asked.
"Azrael Megid, I think--"
"Race?"
"Au Ra Xaela, like me--"
"Personality?"
"Quiet? Apple says he's very shy, but a hard worker and a good person overall." Xiaoning pressed on before the other two had anything else to add. "And you know the other best part of this good news is?"
"What's that?" the other two asked in unison.
"He's a PALADIN!"
Alto and Kneesaa clasped their hands together as their starry eyes envisioned a tall au ra man clad in head-to-toe armor. "Ooohhh...!"
The last point in case was the last push their excitement meter needed. For Xiaoning and Alto, a Red Mage and Composer respectively, a tank could escort them into dangerous areas quickly. For Kneesaa, a White Mage or Scholar depending on her mood, she could have a reliable escort into dangerous areas. This proposition seemed full of win.
Soon, any pretenses of formality melted in a gaggle of flails and squeals.
"Still! A boy in the free company! A boy! So exciting!"
"Imagine, having a boy around! a boy in the house! In chat!"
Outside the free company house, the squeals of excited girls rang throughout the entire ward.
-
Meanwhile, on the aforementioned realm, smoke billowed out the chimney of a small blacksmith forge. Inside, among other things, a rack of impeccably crafted greatswords laid on the wall. Untouched. Unmoving.
Until one hinge at the far end unceremoniously snapped.
In the blink of an eye, the sword barely began its descent downwards when a blur skidded into the vicinity and caught the blade in his hands. Once stopped, the blur revealed itself to be a red-haired au ra in a crouched position.
"Phew."
The au ra, Azrael Megid, stared at his works. He looked up to see the broken hinge in question. He had just built that rack himself. There was no way that anything short of bad luck could have broken it.
Unless... it was a bad omen.
Azrael furrowed his brow. "Somehow, I have a bad feeling..."
-
[2]
Since Apple first taught him the ropes of crafting, she had warned him that eventually they would move to a new free company. That he was getting recruited for the specific task of making guildleve items. No big deal. Azrael liked to help out. Before he came to Eorzea, he had been a blacksmith by trade in the first place, both as a cover story and an actual trade. He loved creating more than destroying. Points for that. He'll have a place to stay, revenue, and a cover story. Check.
The problem? Imminent social interaction.
Even though he could speak to his free company mates Apple Gardenia and Haruka Kinome now, before he found himself at a loss for words.
What do I say? What do I say...?
That night, Azrael tossed and turned in his sleep. His thoughts of carrying a conversation - a regular old fashioned oh yes let's talk about harmless topics for hours and this and that - continued to haunt his dreams.
Eight pairs of hands raised in front of him. "Make us all the things, Azrael!"
Azrael in his dream tried to speak but nothing came out except for a few awkward noises.
Those same eight pairs of hands raised in front of him again. "Escort us through the dungeons, Azrael!" chirped the plethora of DPS and healers.
And him as the only tank in the entire free company.
"A-all at once? Today?" Azrael stuttered in his nightmare.
Azrael woke up in a cold sweat. He shot up and pressed a hand to his chest. Perhaps one day he would warm up to the idea of saying hello. That day wouldn't be moving day.
-
[3]
The fated moving day. According to a letter from Apple, the transfer papers went through without any problems and the trio were on their way. While Xiaoning could have just invited all three to the free company and day over; go home, what fun was that? Instead, Xiaoning also decided to host a small welcoming party.
A large banner saying Welcome, Sirenites! hung on the overhead partition facing the front door. On the counters laid various baked goods and other snacks and tidbits. Xiaoning, Kneessaa and Alto positioned themselves to be immediately visible as soon as the new people walked through the door. All three girls hopped in place and looked at each other with anxious, bright smiles. Neither of them could wait to see the new people!
The doorknob rattled. The trio perked up. "Here they come. Here they come!"
The door burst open. In strode a miqo'te like she had just returned home from a long day's work at the farm. Her brown, braided pigtails fell on both sides of her muscular shoulders and her face was covered in freckles. She wasn't particularly pretty, but her broad smile made everyone feel warm and welcome in her presence.
"Hey, y'all! We finally made it! Nice t'finally meet'cha'll in person!" Apple said in her unique Lominsan drawl.
"Apple! So glad you could make it! I'm so happy to see you!"
Xiaoning bounded over to Apple and wrapped her arms around the miqo'te in a giant hug. Apple returned the hug with equal force. Apple lifted Xiaoning up. Xiaoning lifted Apple up. Alto and Kneesaa came over to share the hug as well.
"Hey, everyone, this is Apple Gardenia." Xiaoning gestured to the brown-haired miqo'te. "We've maintained contact ever since she first sent her recruitment letter. She's really friendly!"
Apple laughed. "As they say back at the farm, ya wanna keep everyone happy, ya gotta feed 'em, and kindness and love are nourishment for the soul. But ya ain't gotta tell me twice to be nice. I love people! Gimme another hug!"
More group hugs. More group lifting. Except in Kneesaa's case where she gently petted everyone's knees.
A knock on the door momentarily stopped the joyous union. Unlike before, where Apple most likely rattled the door knob just to see if she had to kick a locked door down or not, this knock came as polite, yet firm. Deliberate. Like someone polite but of authority.
Xiaoning popped her head from out of the crowd. "The door's open!"
"Excuse me," said a female voice in the same gentle, yet firm manner.
The door closed behind her. There stood a beautiful female hyur with reddish-pink hair that fell into curls on her shoulders. She held her hands in front of her white attire - a garment that could only be politely called a dress, and truthfully called lingerie.
"My true name is Princess Weyll, but you, like, know me on the register as Haruka Kinome. Like, a pleasure to meet you all." The hyur known as Haruka curtsied.
The trio of Vermilion Forest stared at Haruka in awe. "Oh wow, she's so beautiful." "She looks just like a real princess!" "Look at that flawless skin!"
Xiaoning returned the bow. "A pleasure to meet you."
Kneesaa looked up in awe. "Another princess! Kneesaa had yet to meet another like her! Princesses must have pink hair!"
Haruka held a hand to her mouth in a dainty laugh. She curtsied to Kneesaa and smiled. "Yes. Like, a pleasure to make your acquaintance!"
The house quickly filled up with chatter and laughter. So excited the Vermillion Forest trio were to have new members into their small free company - and meet two new people in general - that they had completely forgotten their other point of anticipation and excitement. That was, until Kneesaa spoke up.
"Was there not one more to walk through the door?" the lalafell asked.
Apple and Haruka looked at each other. Both raised their eyebrows and smiled a combination of sheepish and awkward before turning to the trio with the same expressions.
"Y'all mean Azrael?" Apple asked. "He, uh, well..."
Haruka giggled again. "He's very shy. You could say he's not, like, properly acclimated to people."
"No kiddin'. On the battlefield, the kid fights like a primal incarnate, but anywhere else, you say anything more than hi to him and he folds over like a shrinkin' violet. Knowin' him, he'll show up long after everyone's gone to bed. Dun worry. Just do what I did when I first met 'im and leave some notes."
Xiaoning nodded. "I guess that will have to do for now."
Kneesaa bowed her head. "While it would have been nice to see our imminent one body come to the free company, we shall respect these wishes."
Alto smiled and raised her conductor's baton. "For now, though, how about a little music to kick off this celebration? We have food! Help yourself!"
Apple clasped her hands together. "Oh boy! Food! Man, I'm sure starvin'! All that hikin' from one land to another's gotten me beat!"
"Well, like, don't mind if I do. Thank you for setting this all up!" Without hesitation, Haruka took a cookie.
The joyous festivities lasted well into the night. The music and chatter could be heard deep into the ward. Only after the sun began to rise in the horizon did the lights finally go out.
-
[4]
Another day, another morning. An hour after everyone had cleared out of the free company house, the door opened with a decisive turn of the knob and a pushing of the door. Azrael peered into the building through the top of the door. Inside looked like a bazaar - yes, this was definitely the correct house. A little cramped for someone of his height, but well spaced for someone shorter. Not one was there to greet him, not even a mender or a vendor often employed in housing wards. So far so good. He closed the door behind him. Time to check out the place.
Immediately, one item caught his eye: a piece of paper with his name on it pinned to the wall. He bent over bring his face eye level to the parchment.
To Azrael,
Hello and welcome to Vermilion Forest! On behalf of everyone here, I hope you enjoy your stay. Thank you for answering our recruitment call for a levekit crafter. If it's not too much trouble, do you mind getting started as soon as you can? Here are a list of things to make. Please place the items in the third slot of the free company chest. Speaking of which, you are free to use any mats in there to help you out. But don't take everything and run! We know who you are and where you live! Anyway, thank you very much! -Xiaoning.
Xiaoning's warning made Azrael chuckle. Such honesty. And on top of that, someone - most likely Apple - must have told Xiaoning to leave a note for him, rather than scold him to become more sociable. He appreciated that.
The items Xiaoning listed were guildleve items. Azrael rolled up his sleeve. Time to get to work.
-
[5]
Xiaoning didn't awake until well into the afternoon. She yawned and smoothed down her long, black hair as she entered the free company home. "Good morning, everyone..." she mumbled into the special linkpearl created for the free company.
"Good morning, Xiaoning.." muttered a few equally tired voices.
A quick glance to the wall showed that the note Xiaoning had pinned there earlier that morning had gone. Did someone move it? Was Xiaoning just dreaming in thinking she had made a note?
Or did the one lone boy come to the free company after all?
Xiaoning looked at the free company roster. No, his name was there, just like the other newcomers. Azrael Megid.
Did that mean he had seen the note? Curiously, Xiaoning peered into the free company chest, slot three.
All of the items Xiaoning had asked for laid neatly in each compartment.
Xiaoning removed one of said items: an Iron Celata. She held the helmet in front of her head, turning it every which way to inspect in the light. Just as Apple had said, Azrael's craftsmanship was careful, precise and impeccable. Exactly what Xiaoning was recruiting for.
Tucked into the helm was parchment. Seemed too deliberately placed to have been Xiaoning's old note rolled up and put away. Sure enough, the note had been addressed to her. Or whoever saw it in general.
Thank you for having me. I'll do my best. -Az.
Xiaoning smiled and tucked the parchment away in her personal satchel. She had a feeling that the one lone boy would get along in the free company just fine.
-
[Epilogue]
"Everyone, quick! Come to the inn." Xiaoning whispered into the free company chat. "A visitor named Azrael Megid had checked himself in earlier this evening. It could be the very same one lone boy of our free company!"
Soon, the stairwell of the Ruby Phoenix Inn leading downstairs to the actual in area became crowded. Alto and Kneesaa arrived first, dying of curiosity. Apple and Haruka also arrived, though more curious than anything to see how this event played out.
Lead by Xiaoning, the group tip-toed downstairs into the inn area. The inn rooms themselves had no doors, but carefully placed partitions so people couldn't immediately see who or what was inside. Which meant they couldn't catch a glimpse of this mysterious lone boy of the free company beforehand. Although certainly a male presence had made its way here - the further along the group moved, the louder the breathing noises became. At the end of the hall, Xiaoning gestured to the group. With Alto's head on the top, Xiaoning's in the middle and Kneesaa's on the bottom, the trio peered in the room.
Lying on his back too deep in sleep to notice anything but his own slumber, was Azrael Megid, the fabled lone boy of the free company.
"Oh, there he is. So that's what he looks like." said Alto. "Au ra standards must be different, but to me, he looks so young."
"He is young. The less scales they have, the younger they are." Xiaoning whispered. "He's a xaela, just like me."
"He is so tall!" Kneesaa cooed in a whisper. "He is also very muscular. They look even bigger than yours, Xiaoning."
"What? Really? ... well what do you know..."
Azrael, completely asleep and unaware of his visitors, stirred in his sleep. His soft moan acted like a needle to burst Xiaoning, Kneesaa and Alto's collective contained excitement. The novelty! The difference! Squealing like a bunch of schoolgirls, they ran up the stairs. Apple and Haruka moved out of the way to let them pass, then smiled and shrugged to each other.
"Such a lively group." said Haruka.
"You could say that again." chuckled Apple.

Ways to Forgive Chapter 9
Catch up with the first fic in the series  Ways to Say I’m Sorry
Chapter [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][You are here]
[AO3]
Chapter Nine-The Cake
“Oh my God, try the one with lemon curd, it’s to die for,” Chloe held her fork up to Nathaniel’s mouth. He smiled at his lovely wife to be and parted his lips. She was right, the lemon curd filling was delicious. All the cakes were delicious. Tom went above and beyond with the cake tasting.
“The last one is Italian Wedding cake,” Tom said
Nathaniel took a bite. The cake was nice and moist with a hint of almond. Very tasty, but he couldn’t bring himself to smile.
“You don’t seem impressed.” Chloe said, wiping a bit of frosting off Nathaniel’s lips.
“It’s good,” he lied. Lately, everything around him had been Italian. It reminded him of the man who followed him weeks ago. He checked in with Marinette the next day. She said the man left without ordering right after Nathaniel left the bakery. He’d been on high alert since then. Every once in awhile a the paparazzi would follow him around asking about the wedding. Oddly enough he felt safer in the public eye.
Nathaniel didn’t want to worry his bride to be. She was in such a good place now that she smoothed things over with her mother. It wasn’t the tearful reunion like in the movies, but it was a start. They agreed to weekly lunches to catch up and texted occasionally. Audrey stayed as far away from wedding planning as possible and didn’t pry about the inheritance as much.
“What’s wrong?” Chloe took Nathaniel's hand.
“Nothing,” he shook his head. “I just like the Lemon curd better. It’s your second favorite flavor.”
“After honey,” Chloe smirked. She took another bite of the Lemon curd. “You’re right it is better.”
Nathaniel kissed her hand. “Are we making a decision?”
“Lemon curd cake it is,” Chloe smiled. “Cake one of two. Our tasting at the Jewish bakery is tomorrow. I hope your aunt isn’t mad she’s not making the kosher cake.”
“Oh she’s still bringing a cake, so we need to leave room on the table for it.”
“Nathaniel!”
“What, I couldn’t say no to her, she’d be devastated.”
“So we’re going to have three cakes. Fantastic.”
“Chloe, we’re getting married in two months, don’t stress about the little things.”
Chloe gently pulled her hand away from Nathaniel’s grasp. “This is a little fast, isn’t it?”
“I would have married you in a courthouse if I had my way.”
“Yeah, but your parents would have killed you and we wouldn’t have gotten the inheritance.”
Nathaniel frowned. All the money coming their way and they still don’t talk about a prenup. He didn’t want anything from Chloe, but the world didn’t see it that way. Articles about the wedding leaked to the media. Chloe was using the budget very smartly. She splurged on dresses and tuxes for the wedding party, and two sets of meals for the reception. Her lawyers were strict about the spending, but two million was a lot to blow. Chloe kept the scale of the wedding small. She didn’t want to invite any of the unsavory figures from her past how abandoned her when she had nothing. They didn’t need that kind of negativity on the happiest day of their lives.
The “Parisian Wedding of the Century” would be small, but extravagant and Nathaniel was not putting a penny towards it. Well, except for the wedding bands. He was not going to ruin the surprise engravings he had in store.
“All right,” Chloe stood up. “I need to get upstairs for my fitting.”
“You’re not going to Agreste’s?”
She shook her head. “Marinette is insisting she do the final work away from the studio. She’s worried about leaks. The first draft of the preliminary design went up online. She scrapped the whole thing and kept everything within a small team. So much for not overworking her.”
“You know, I would marry you in a potato sack. How’s that for the ‘Parisian Wedding of the Century’?”
“I would rather eat my Jimmy Choos.”
“Didn’t you sell those?”
“Mom bought me a new pair the other day.”
Nathaniel frowned. “I haven’t seen them?”
“I’m breaking them in at home.”
Another stark reminder they still didn’t live together. Chloe held on to that apartment with her dear life. Her lease was up in a couple months and she hadn’t packed yet. She practically lived at Nathaniel place for half of the week. But they were running out of time. Merging her stuff with his was going to be a nightmare.
“Maybe I would see them more if you started moving in already.”
Nathaniel, I love you, but please don’t rush me. We have our whole lives to live together.  I spent most of my life dependent on others. First it was my father, then the Dupain-Chengs. That tiny little apartment is my last piece of independence.”
“Chloe Bourgeois, you are the fiercest, most independent woman I know. Don’t you think for a second you’ll lose any of that once we tie the knot. Sure, we’ll depend on each other for a lot of things, but don’t forget who’s bringing home the bacon in this family.”
“You don’t eat bacon, and that phrase implies that I actually work for the massive fortune I’m inheriting.”
“Just that the complement.”
“Fine,” she kissed his nose. “We can start looking at penthouses after we’re married.”
“A penthouse?” He was hoping for a bigger flat or a house. A penthouse screamed luxury, he thought Chloe was behind all that.
“I really have to go,” she turned and headed around back to the stairs. “I love you.”
“Love you too,” Nathaniel sighed. This conversation was far from over.
<p align="center"> *** </p>
Chloe smoothed over the soft fabric with her fingers before stepping out from behind the partition.
“Oh my God, Chloe,” Marinette cupped her hands over her face. “You look beautiful.”
“Really,” Chloe bubble with excitement inside. She’s seen the design and wore various stages of the dress for fittings, but this was the closest to the final version. Marinette moved the full length mirror closer.
The ivory fitted mermaid style dress hugged every single one of Chloe’s curves perfectly. The off the shoulder sleeves and sweetheart neckline showed just enough skin to make her husband to be drool. She traced her fingers along the delicate lace in shape of small honeycombs that must have took months to make. Marinette outdid herself.
“This is amazing.”
“How does it feel?” Marinette said.
“Like a dream.”
“That’s not a real answer.”
Chloe lifted her arms and walked around for a bit. The dress was a bit snugger than the last time she tried it on. “Maybe it’s a tad too tight around the sleeves and waist.”
“The sleeves are an easy alteration and we can take it out a bit. We don’t want the bride passing out on her wedding day.”
“Thank you, it’s perfect. When can I see the veil?”
“We’re working as fast as we can. Handmade veils as long as yours takes time. We should have it by your final fitting before the wedding.”
“Are you sure I can’t take a picture? Just to show the others. I won’t even send it to anyone.”
“No way,” Marinette shook her head. “All eyes are on you since you announce your engagement--”
“Well technically the paparazzi found me and the media
“Exactly. Designing your dress has put Agreste’s back on the map. We cannot risk the public seeing the dress before the wedding, understand? Besides, you don’t want Nathaniel seeing you the dress.”
Hook. Line. Sinker. Chloe didn’t care if all of Paris saw her in the dress before the wedding, but Nathaniel? No she wanted to see his face light up the second he saw her walking down the aisle. “Okay you win.”
“Good, now have you thought about your something old, new, borrowed and blue yet? I will tell you, blue does not go well with the accessories I’ve planned.”
“We’ll for the old, obviously I’m wearing the bee miraculous.”
“We’ll it is technically borrowed,” Marinette mumbled.
Chloe frowned, it’s been months since she made an outing as Queen Bee. Even with Gabriel in Jail, Marinette, Adrien and Alya still did patrols and fought other crimes. With all the her life moving forward, she didn’t have time to go out anymore and honestly she didn’t miss it as much as she thought she would. But she did love Pollen, and if holding on to the miraculous meant Pollen would still be her companion, she would hold onto it a little longer.
“It’s still mine for now, figure something else out for my something borrowed. My shoes are new and the garter can blue right?”
“It doesn't match…”
“No one will see it.”
“Fine,” Marinette pouted. “If anything else conflicts with your ensemble let me know. Everything has to be perfect.”
“You’re stressing out more than I am, you need to relax.”
“I will after the wedding.”
“What about the bachelorette party?”
“Okay, so I’ll be there,” Marinette zipped her lips. “You’re not getting another word out of me. Sabrina would kill me. I’ve faced hundreds of supervillains, including my father-in-law, no one scares me as much as that woman.”
“Fair enough.” Sabrina was super tight lipped about her surprise bachelorette party. She had no idea where or when it was. All she knew is that it was going to be one last wild ride before tying the knot.
“Ms. Bourgeois your phone is ringing,” Marinette’s assistant held out a Chloe’s phone and placed it in Chloe’s hand. It was Audrey, she wanted to video call. Chloe looked over at Marinette. As much as she wanted to show someone her dress, she had to respect Marinette’s wishes. Chloe declined the video call, but called her back.
“Hey Mom, I’m sorry I can’t video chat right now, what’s up?”
“Have you finished with your fitting?” Audrey asked.  I wanted to see your dress.”
“Sorry, dress is top secret,” Chloe paused. “Wait when did I tell you about the fitting?” Chloe had been very careful about sharing wedding details. She would have remembered telling Audrey about the fitting.
“When I gave you the shoes, remember?” Audrey said quickly. “You joked about them not matching your wedding dress.”
“Yeah, okay.” There was no way Chloe told her the exact time of her fitting. Even so it was odd to video call out of the blue in the middle of a dressing fitting. “Is that why you called?”
“I’m just checking in,” Audrey said. “How are you doing?”
Chloe sighed, maybe she was reading too much into it.“Good, we picked out the first cake flavor at Tom and Sabine’s today before the fitting.”
“Are you free to get a manicure after you’re done?”
This was random. They never hung out more than once a week. While their relationship was in a much better place, Chloe was still waiting for the other shoe to drop. She didn’t want to deviate from the boundaries they.
“Sorry mom I’m super busy after the fitting, the wedding is in two months, you understand.”
“Of course,” Audrey said, disappointingly. “We’re still on for lunch next week?”
“I wouldn’t miss it. I’ll talk to you then, bye.” She hung up.
“You okay?” Marinette asked.
“I’m fine,” Chloe muttered. She felt a little bad about lying. But she needed to protect her feelings. Keeping her mother at an arm's length was the right thing to do.

Corner Gaming Desk | Table with Keyboard Tray Space USA

You’ve hit the helpdesk today We’re going to review the Eureka Ergonomic 60″ L Shaped Gaming Desk So we’ll move on to opening the case next We’ll put it togetherLet me tell you some of the steps I’ve been through and maybe some things to avoid, then let me give you my general opinions we got from this office Put it together for about a week and I’ll tell you my thoughts and durability stuff like that, so let’s get into it first. When you open the box everything is well packed it is in a foam some kind of hard foam everything has a place so everything is protectedThat’s nice, this desk is a partitioned desk, so it’s shipped in 2 different pieces, everything is pre-drilled with the threaded metal bits pre-installed Already glued, shipping was not damaged, here is the desk with the two halves put together before clamps and plates are on the seamClosed close to this plastic corner piece I removed from the desk and I was the first to install this desk with the lights kind of offIt was darker, it was actually a little hard to see this little piece in there and it prevented the desk from merging together, so just remember that Remove that pieceSo that two pieces of the desk can be pushed together all the way and here you can see the formation of the support system of this desk it seems that each piece of the deskProperly supported which is nice and here are some extra support struts that stick out at the top one thing I noticed is that everything lines up correctly so I didn’t have any via threaded issuesWhile putting these screws in and here it is with all the screws in, I had relatively no problems putting these in everything threaded well, nothing tangled I didn’t have eitherToo much trouble with everything so what I’m showing you here is that these legs are in two different sizes, one for the short depth side and one for the long depth okay side don’t panic this desk is used by a nine-year-old kid andWhat I’m going to show you here is how a nine-year-old can make this desk messy and the surface seems not to be protected much but when we wash itThey come out beautifully and brand new, it’s not the most resistant material I’ve seen on a desk, the Mars Cougar and Mars 120 isA bit more scratch-resistant, but this desk came out very clean and has these wire chase ways on the side for cable management which is great It is so deep that you can put a lot of wires in itIt has a central section to hold the wires from the monitor, mouse, and keyboard, it also has a second chase method on the other side, and here’s the desk bringing them togetherHolds 127 inches comfortably, and it also holds the entire desktop we plan on putting two 27 inches on so the way to do that is we’ll have to turn the computer on in the back
a side of l and two 27s and 27-inch curves can fit together now my feelings with this desk I’ve been really looking forward to in other desks is that it only has aWeight capacity is 176lbs and what that means is how sturdy the desk is, so I just put my hand on the desk and kind of move my hand on the desk, which makes Screen shaking makes your mouth vibrate, it is strong enough for a child but if you are an older person Corner Gaming DeskIt’s probably on the keyboard or if you mount your monitor on that desk, you’ll probably get some screen shake and other components going into itTo be able to see the vibration well, I hope you enjoyed blogging a few things, uh to summarize ah the mouse pad comes with the deskIt’s a nice mouse pad, it’s a soft piece of cloth, and it goes the whole depth of the desk, it was very nice, I picked this up during the holiday season, so it was forNow note at the time of this video that it is not available, I saw it for 199 I saw it on the convenient website eureka As much as 2.99 but I think you can get it for close to 200 anywayI’ve been using this desk for over a week now and am loving it! Its a nice sturdy desk that I use for my office and it fits perfectly against corners. I was able to build it by myself in about an hour with the directions included in the box.All parts of the desk have a sticker and is labeled in the instructions to easily put it together. My only complaint with the instructions is the lack of words/ captions to go along with the pictures.None the less, it was still relatively easy to build. I use the desk with two monitors and there is plenty of extra space for some paperwork and a printer. After everything was set, I did notice that the keyboard tray wasn’t the smoothest and had some friction when sliding it back in. Sprayed dry lube on the sliders and it fixed the problem A great product for the price and was a much needed upgrade from my old desk. 5 Best Gaming Desks in 2021 Corner Gaming Desk FULL READ NOW TOP 5 BEST GAMING DESKS 2021–2022Corner Gaming Desk | Table with Keyboard Tray Space USA — (findnowblogs.com)
