My sister wanted me to draw Siren Neil’s tongue

Andrew feeds Neil often since he thinks Neil would be a horrible hunter (Neil’s so skinny it’s only logical he can’t feed himself) but Neil is a very good hunter. He just doesn’t eat much since it brings attention

When sirens hunt, they do it far from home since all the blood will attract many kinds of predators. But this makes them vulnerable. Many solitary sirens die because of this. Neil rarely eats so he won’t bring danger his way.

Mermaids usually eat meat above surface. They also sometimes make meals above surface because eating it raw and alone is boring. Andrew doesn’t always care and will eat wherever he feels comfortable. Andrew also is the one who usually provides meals for his pod (the monsters) since he’s at the top of their hierarchy system. Not all mermaids work this way, sometimes those at the bottom of the pyramid do all the hunting and provide for those at the top. But Andrew’s got that protective and caretaker instinct to hunt and provide for his family.

When Neil starts slowly forming a bond with Andrew, Andrew is always offering him food. It works that Andrew also eats twice his body weight and carries around and hides extra fish.

okay so one of my aftg fic opinions:

when it comes to au’s that included non human creatures, like mermaids, vampires, werewolves, etc, I always lean towards the ones where Andrew is a human and Neil is whatever else.

I just love the idea that Andrew is just a guy.

A guy who is fucking sick of all this magic/supernatural bullshit. He just wants to live his life and for people to leave him the fuck alone.

Maybe he is actively anti whatever supernatural being is the main focus of the story. Maybe he has massive trust issues with whatever beings are there or the power system at play.

And then boom. In comes fucking whatever!Neil.

“Can I take this off?” Jeremy asked. “Can you even understand me?” he mumbled, more to himself. Those pirate stories said mermaids talked to them, but did those pirates even speak English? Did they even really speak to the mermaids at all? He held his breath as he laid on his stomach over the edge.

“God, please don’t kill me,” he grunted. The mermaid was holding its tail out to him, but not quite close enough. He scooted a bit further out- as far as he could reach without the risk of falling. His fingertips grazed the fin, slick and slippery. As soon as he made contact the mermaid flinched away.

Jeremy grunted and sighed heavily. Work with me here. He tried not to think about the many ways that the mermaid could kill him in the span of five seconds if it wanted to. It hadn’t been nice to a single keeper or veterinarian that encountered it thus far. Jeremy had no reason to be any different.

He flexed his shaking fingers and his heart skipped a beat when the mermaid moved its tail into his grasp. He could hear the blood rushing through his ears. He’d expected the mermaids fin to be slimy, perhaps. Not silky.

Once he got his hands on the catch pole it was easy to get off, and the second it started to release the mermaid started beating its tail to wriggle out of it. Jeremy squeezed his eyes shut, losing his grip on the pole and hesitating on reaching his arm fully into the water to try and snatch it before it fell too far down. His hesitation was enough to lose him this precious seconds, though.

Wonderful.

Jeremy started to move himself backwards back onto the diving platform, but paused and contemplated how exactly to do that. He may have leaned out a bit too far, and there wasn’t necessarily anything to push himself back with. He liked to think his upper body strength was good enough, but the angle was so off that his arms felt useless.

He really didn’t want to imagine what the mermaid would do to him if he fell in.

A splash tuned him back in enough to do a wide scan of the room. When he snapped his head back around to his left he nearly had a heard attack. He instinctively fought back against wet hands, pushing and grunting. Green eyes and sharp teeth flashed, and a sharp hiss shut Jeremy up and stilled him. He could feel himself trembling as the mermaid wrapped long fingers, sheenly webbed and clawed, around his forearms hard enough that he couldn’t move if he tried.

The mermaid pushed him back onto the platform. Its eyes were hard as steel but brilliantly green, they matched the tiny green scales that lined the gills on the sides of his neck, and the pointed fins that were supposed to be ears. Jeremy realized with startling realization that his face was a foot away from a mermaids- so close that he could see the freckles lining its face and the twitch in his jaw and the water droplets falling from his hair hanging over its forehead.

Jeremy planted his palms on the platform the second that the mermaid let go, pulled from the trance of shock that had ransacked his mushy brain.

But it’s already gone, splashing Jeramy with a flick of its tail- the one he just had his hands on, so fast that it was like Jeremy had burned it.

He needed some air.

There were only a handful of other players from the team in the lounge, but all eyes were on Andrew. His reputation from college followed him throughout his five years in the professional league.

Neil's bag finally slips and lands on the floor with a dull thud. “What the fuck?” Eyes whip around to him.

Andrew’s hazel eyes were darker in the interior lights of the lounge room. More brown than gold.

The coach pointed his clipboard at Neil. “Not a word, Josten.”

Ignoring that statement Neil looked at Andrew, opening his mouth ready to speak again when his vision was blocked by a thick shoulder and red hair.

Jodie sets a hand on Neil’s bicep pushing just slightly. “Let's go get changed out, yeah?”

Mind running too fast to process anything else, Neil nodded, following the other man into the locker room. Belatedly he realizes he didn't grab his bag from the floor before Jodie holds it out.

“You look like you've been through war.” Jodie hums as Neil takes his sports bag.

Neil's fingers wrap around the fabric strap. “What?”

Jodie points his thumb back towards the door. “Minyard being here sure surprised you, huh? Coach didn't tell you?”
