it was actually really fun drawing these symbolic panels, yes i traced the mora bc who has time to draw it like wtf is even going on in the middle???

i also want to shoutout a fan of mine from tiktok who made an entire fanfic based off my au, do be warned there is sexual content (which isn’t plot relevant(??? i skipped through it)) and do mind the actual warnings on the fic (it’s alright if it’s not for you!), they have a lot of cool ideas in there and I want to uplift other creative people!

explaination of the symbolism if anyone is curious

kaveh and alhaitham being tied up obviously represents lack of freedom, in kaveh’s version its lack of autonomy (he can’t escape) in alhaitham’s version its mora which he is tied to

kaveh hangs upside down because it mimics the way butcher shops tend to hang fresh meat, it’s also why he gets the price tag as the price tag further dehumanizes him.

alhaitham’s boss is the one who’s tying alhaitham because his life depends on the amount of mora he makes which his boss controls and manipulates

kaveh on the other hand isn’t tied to anyone, because it’s the world and society he lives in who has him tied which he could easily escape from if sumeru in this world was like “yeah maybe let’s not eat mermaids/mans”

alhaitham’s expression is also important, he is used the treatment he gets in his life but had settled with it up until now, meanwhile kaveh is not (he was literally kidnapped)

“exploitation” is an important word too, kaveh is being exploited for profit and personal gain, the same way alhaitham is being exploited (profit by wage theft and kaveh, personal gain by his boss making him work at a loss) and they’re both occurring at the same time by the same perpetrator (the chef)

A little merman Kaveh. His hairstyle is honestly confusing.

Mermaid au but the merman is al-Haitham and Kaveh only discovers him by chance one day while he was on the pier drawing and sees something move in the water.

Several days pass before Haitham comes out, and during those days, Kaveh goes to the pier to draw and talk to that shadow he saw only once and never again, but he knew it was there somewhere. He told them about his day in the purest and most genuine way, sharing what he couldn't tell others because they saw him as a perfect person and any sign of weakness was not acceptable. That's why he took refuge on that old abandoned pier, observing and capturing in his drawings the imperfections of the waves.

Then one day, Kaveh arrived at that pier a little later, the sky transitioned from the radiant blues of day to the gentle hues of twilight. He didn't speak, nor was he in the mood to draw and it was at that moment that the water rippled, splashing salty drops on the boy's face who was curled up on the pier. Kaveh leaned in to look, but there was nothing, impossible to have imagined it "Whoever it was, why don't you show yourself?" but no one answered, just like the times before. So Kaveh stood up, announcing that he would leave, but right then, half of a face emerged, watching him with a mix of curiosity and fear. Kaveh knelt on the pier, looking at that humanoid creature that disappeared into the depths once again. The boy relaxed his lips into a smile, thanking him for showing up and promising to come back the next day.
