Miami Carnival 2022

The months leading up to Carnival you research bands or go with one you are familiar with that always has good vibes on the road and the most appealing costumes.

You purchase your costume or put down your deposit ( make sure to pay it off by the deadline! ) and you’re halfway there!

Next you find where you’ll be staying for the weekend. Make sure it’s in close vicinity to events and the Sunday Parade.. you don’t want to have to Drive or UBER too far if you’re tired and tipsy from the festivities.

Then you plan out your weekend. Purchase any party tickets or “fetes” you plan on attending. There will be PLENTY to choose from.. My favorites in Recent years have been Tipsy and all White Fete featuring different soca artists and this Year I got To see Burna Boy which I’ve been a fan for a while so it was exciting to finally see him perform.

Another Favorite is Soca Brainwash hosted by DJ PrivateRyan.. a well know DJ in the soca community. Usually a themed party with drinks included. You get a themed cup which you can refill all night.. this year I lost mine halfway through whining on somebody son.. so I had to finish the rest of the party mostly sober 🫤😂.

Then there Is Viva la Carnival a cooler fete that usually goes til 4 in the morning. Always high energy and the most beautiful people 😍. These are only a few, there are also breakfast parties, boat parties, etc.. whatever you’re looking for you will find your crowd in Miami..

Jouvert Mornin

It’s where it gets messy, Dancing to soca getting splattered with paint and powder mostly involuntarily, there’s no feeling like it. Most bands provide the Jouvert attire but your free to mix it up and put your own spin on it. You’ll see ladies in tights, thongs,bathing suits usually with their hair covered for obvious reasons🙆🏽‍♀️ and the guys usually some shorts and shirts optional.. comfortable, old shoes are the preference.

Costume Pick up

Some where between parties you will find yourself needing to pick up your costume from wherever your band has designated. Bring your patience bc this could be a long process .. Thousands of masqueraders that need costumes so just imagine ..

Sunday Morning

It’s time to hit the road. Make sure to eat a good breakfast as you will be drinking all day. It is also important to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Make up then costume making sure everything fits right ..someone from the crew always brings a hot glue gun.. because if you know you know that some parts of the costume may start to fall apart before the day even gets started so it’s just good to have..

Of course all dressed up in your pretty costume it’s time to take some pics!! Do this in the beginning bc once the liquor starts flowing ain’t no tellin what you’ll be looking like 🫣.

On the road Is where it all goes down, jump up , whine down, and dance your heart out to soca Music. I always have a great time, for that weekend I’m not thinking about my business, kids , bills , etc I’m just there to soak it all in, be the moment and be carefree even just for the weekend..
