Innovative film combines cooling efficiency with vibrant structural colors

In a study published in Matter, Song Yanlin's lab from the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Li Mingzhu's lab from the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry of CAS designed a structurally colored radiative cooling film with a hierarchically porous nested structure (SC-RC film), which can preserve highly efficient subambient cooling performance and provide an appealing colorful appearance. The SC-RC film was engineered to reflect sunlight across a broad range of wavelengths while exhibiting distinct reflective peaks at specific wavelengths. It resulted in brilliant structural colors without compromising cooling efficiency. The color can be adjusted by altering the diameter of colloidal nanoparticles. The innovative design embedded colloidal photonic crystals into micropits, ensuring a confined assembly of nanoparticles and reducing defects associated with self-assembly. This process resulted in vibrant structural colors. In addition, the porous polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) micropit framework provided protective support for colloidal photonic crystals that significantly enhanced the mechanical stability of the structural colors.

Fatigue failure (pitting) - Gear defects - Other defects

Contact fatigue. In another failure mode, called contact or Hertzian fatigue, repeated stresses cause surface cracks and detachment of metal fragments from the tooth contact surface, Figure 1. The most common types of surface fatigue are macropitting (visible to the naked eye) and micropitting. Macropitting occurs when fatigue cracks start either at or below the surface. As the cracks grow, they cause a piece of surface material to break out, forming a pit with sharp edges. Based on the type of damage, macropitting is categorized as nonprogressive, progressive, spall, or flake. The nonprogressive type consists of pits less than 1 mm diam in localized areas. These pits distribute load more evenly by removing high points on the surface, after which pitting stops. Progressive macropitting consists of pits larger than 1 mm diam that cover a significant portion of the tooth surface. In one type, called spalling, the pits coalesce and form irregular craters over a large area. In flake macropitting, thin flakes of material break out and form triangular pits that are relatively shallow, but large in area. Micropitting has a frosted, matte, or gray stained appearance. Under magnification, the surface is shown to be covered by very fine pits (less than 20 mm deep). Metallurgical sections through these pits show fatigue cracks that may extend deeper than the pits.

Influence of sulfate-reducing bacteria on the corrosion behavior of 5052 aluminum alloy

The interaction between SRB and metals had been the focus of numerous investigations. In this paper, the interaction between SRB and 5052 aluminum alloy was studied using biological and electrochemical methods. Electrochemical analysis suggested that the corrosion rate of the aluminum alloy was accelerated substantially by SRB. This effect was based on the consumption of hydrogen, which in return promoted SRB metabolic activity. Deeper and larger micropits were found on alloy surfaces immersed in SRB. Energy dispersive spectroscopy analyses demonstrated that the concentration of Al on the surface of samples immersed with SRB was lower, while the concentrations of C, O, and S were higher than those without SRB. The results give an insight into clarifying the interaction between SRB and Al.

Tendencias en fluidos de engranajes industriales

Los aceites de engranajes de hoy no son lo que acostumbraban a ser y con razón: El entorno en el que trabajan los engranajes industriales se ha transformado y las demandas sobre el lubricante han aumentado dramáticamente. Encontramos dos factores primordiales que influyen en las tendencias del concentrado de dispositivo industrial: las características y los cambios en las maquinas de engranajes de industria.

Fondo

Hay una serie de estándares de lubricante de engranajes de línea de base, entre los que se encuentran disposiciones geográficas concretas como AGMA 9005-E02 EP (Norteamérica), DIN 51517-3 (Europa) y SEBI 181 226 (Alemania – acero). Los mayoristas de conjuntos originales (como David Brown, Flender, Winergy y Cincinnati Machine) suelen aprovechar ciertos o todos y cada uno de los ensayos promedio de referencia en combinación con sus requisitos auxiliares, lo que viene a resultar en estándares de desempeño más rigurosos para el lubricante de engranajes. Asimismo, existen especificaciones objetivas del cliente final (como GM LS-2) y concretas de la industria (como lubricantes de contacto con comestibles y turbinas eólicas). Con independencia de la diferenciación o estándar, se están convirtiendo cada vez más estrictas, que exigen aceites industriales de mayor calidad. Esto ha dado lugar a que los desarrolladores adopten un modo de centrarse diferente para obedecer o sobrepasar estos fines de alto rendimiento.

Cambios en cajas de cambios industriales

Las cajas de engranajes de en la actualidad están fabricadas de materiales novedosos, lo que resulta en un peso más liviano de la caja de cambios. Se les exige que produzcan más energía y sean más durables y fiables que sus precursores. Además, los dientes y las cargas de los cojinetes son también más altos.

La envergadura más chiquita de la caja de engranajes quiere decir menos grasa y aditivo para engrasar los engranajes, que ahorita están tratando de llevar cargas más altas. Esto da como resultado temperaturas más altas y una velocidad del proceso de oxidación. La oxidación es perjudicial para los aceites de engranajes industriales, puesto que puede formar lodos que pueden acortar la vida del grasa y la vida beneficiosa de los componentes de la caja de engranajes. Esto resulta en tiempo de inercia y gastos para relevar o bien arreglar componentes.

Fragmentos de un correcto aceite de engranajes

Los componentes de un aceite de dispositivo de excelencia a veces dependen de quién está liderando la discusión. El creador de lubricantes, sin embargo, está bien notificado en todas las partes del proceso. Estos aditivos incorporan química de azufre-fósforo para presión extrema, antioxidantes, desmulsificantes, modificadores de roce, modificadores de pegajosidad, desactivadores de metal y otros. Los proveedores de aditivos dan al fabricante de lubrificantes la tecnología para ir más allá del grasa de engranajes universal basado en minerales. Con una ciencia aditiva apropiada, el empresario de lubrificantes puede hacer aseveraciones de rendimiento concretas y generar aceites de engranajes con algunos atributos, como niveles más altos de capacidad de carga o bien para aplicaciones específicas, como contacto con comestibles y turbinas eólicas.

Nueva tecnología

El valor del resultado y la diferenciación pueden conseguirse escogiendo la técnica aditiva apropiada en combinación con el fluido base adecuado. Actualmente, se dispone de una primicia ciencia aditiva que ofrece este valor y esta diferencia. Elaborado para proporcionar altos niveles de características de presión extrema mediante una amplia gradación de viscosidades (incluso inclusive ISO VG 68), las cajas de engranajes más pequeñas que llevan cargas altas tienen protección adicional. Los aditivos usados para prosperar las propiedades de presión extrema pueden ser propensos a inconvenientes de equilibrio térmica, dando sitio a la formación de lodo. Esta noticia ciencia ha sido formulada para otorgar la mesura estupenda de la continuidad térmica para los conjuntos de engranajes libres de lodos y la defensa de extrema presión para la durabilidad de servicio pesado.
