Umber Embers Vol.2, 9.9.23 “All Of Us"
There was a time, where a promise had meaning Where the future was teeming With opportunity There was a morning, bright and shining to see For world, and me To be something more There was a plan, a process, a chore Set to be placed, in a business core Study, work hard, keep your head down Make it four years without slightest frown Then there’s a place for you in our town There was a time, with promise When did times, turn amiss Gone is the time where a wish Could be found Where did that go? Left in the future with nothing to show I was robbed without the dignity Of it being done to my face

: ̗̀➛Back to Source
Tumblr media
╰┈➤ 𝐉𝐞𝐟𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫
Has at least nearly roundhouse kicked you bcs he thought u were Jane on MULTIPLE OCCASIONS… (he’ll say he’s sorry in the most dull non apologetic way ever and probs doesn’t mean it.)
“My bad, I guess.”
He doesn’t care abt aesthetic that much I believe, as long as he finds you hot lolz.
Though when he’s out killing people and he sees something that catches his eye that he’d class ‘gothy as fuck’ he’d snatch it for you… so that’s sweet ig.
He deadass brought you a dead bat once…
╰┈➤ 𝐓𝐢𝐜𝐜𝐢 𝐓𝐨𝐛𝐲
HE LOVES U AND UR AESTHETIC SM
Midwest emo x trad goth, what a combo :3
His first words to you ever was that you looked like you crawled out a Tim Burton movie (he was tryna impress u with his film knowledge).
Type of guy to ask to make a shared Spotify playlist and try and learn all of the songs you like and force himself to learn the lyrics for you.
Bro will jump you just to get a hug, and when he finally pulls away you’ll just see the black imprints of your makeup on his white tee.
BEGS YOU TO GO THRIFTING TOGETHER TO FIND COOL THINGS TO WEAR FOR EACHOTHER!!
“T-this would luh-look so cool o-on you!!”
╰┈➤ 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫
TWINNING!! :D
She’s a trad goth too lmao.
You two definitely share clothes, no matter what it may be. Corsets, dresses, boots, gloves. Anything in the closet really you two own together :)
ALSO she WILL help you doing your makeup, not because you need the help just because she likes to practice so she doesn’t get rusty. (She mostly wears her mask so she doesn’t rlly do a whole lotta makeup besides lashes and lipstick)
Like Toby will take you thrifting (without the breaking in part).
╰┈➤ 𝐍𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫
She thinks your so so so super duper awesome sauce.
She’s a scene girly, so she LOVES the fact that your twos aesthetics are so different and unique from eachother.
Also likes helping to do your makeup, because she just wants to be able to do trad makeup to impress you.
WILL ASLO TAKE YOU TO THE THRIFT SHOP. (these guys like thrift shops okay)
Would love if you guys swapped wardrobes for a day.
“BABE, PRETTY PLEASE??? JUST FOR TWO MINUTES!! I’LL GIVE ‘EM BACK!!”
And you’ve deffo caught her in your clothes MULTIPLE times :3
╰┈➤ 𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐫
She doesn’t care all that much what you’re aesthetic is lolz.
She just wants someone in her life to love and to love her back.
But she does compliment your look nervously when the convo gets a lil too quiet.
Though you to catch her staring at you lovingly while doing your makeup.
She may bring you back little things that caught her eye that reminds her of you, that being anything rlly. BUT ESPECIALLY CLOTHING.
╰┈➤ 𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤
She will compliment you every chance she gets. Mostly calling you hot and sexy.
SHE’S GOT THE HUMOUR OF A 12 YEAR OLD BOY WHO HASN’T HIT PUBERTY!! (And you love it and hate it at the exact same time.)
Like I mean she makes goth mommy jokes ALL THE TIME… there’s no stopping her. She cackles so hard afterwards after u scold her for it too.
“I love my big tiddy goth girlfriend<3”
“Nat, I swear to fuck-“

Hello! I’m back (kind of).
I’ve decided to be brave and start posting about my own original story! It’s still in development, and things are privy to change, but I’ve worked really hard on it.
“Do Not Go Gently” is the title currently, as in reference to the poem Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
It’s a religious horror/dark comedy that I made to help me hash out my own thoughts and feelings about faith in general.
It follows a cast of four characters as they take on a dangerous cult that is spreading throughout the Midwest of America. I set it specifically in Missouri, and I put in a lot of cultural references to a specific area of eastern Missouri where I grew up (Old Mines, Missouri if you’re interested)
The main gang, if you will, are:
John Wise: a British preacher who murdered his best friend
Tumblr media
Naomi “Omie” Lewis: a single mother who killed her boyfriend to protect her son
Tumblr media
Mika Brimstone: a member of the Omaha nation on the hunt for revenge
Tumblr media
Cain, Daughter of Eve: The Wanderer, The First Murderer, who binds all three of them together through her mark
Tumblr media
(I’m sorry these drawings are so half assed, I promise I can draw 🙏)
I’ll be posting about it here if you’re interested. I don’t expect much traffic on this series but that’s okay.
I am going to put a link to the (admittedly) massive playlist I made for this story here:
And here's the link to the (frankly unimpressive) Pinterest board:
(don't pay attention to the weird link title, I have no idea how to get rid of it)
I’m also putting together a Google slides that has most of the story on it that I will share the link to in an upcoming post.
Anywho, I will go a LOT more in depth in the future. I just need a stepping stone to do so. Toodles ❤️

can we bring this article back? it's so good and still so relevant, imo: www*vogue*com/article/taylor-swift-may-cover-maid-of-honor-dating-personal-style
Her style has never been deliberately provocative or fad-chasing—on the contrary, there’s always been a kind of effortless appropriateness to Swift, a quality she shares with her friend the Midwest-raised model Karlie Kloss—and yet it’s easy to see a curiosity about new things. Recently Swift cut her hair into a sharp bob, and she’s been seen strutting in a pair of Gothy, over-the-ankle Vetements boots that look stolen from the closet of Siouxsie Sioux.
“I’m just taking things as they come,” Swift says. “I’m in a magical relationship right now. And of course I want it to be ours, and low-key . . . this is the one thing that’s been mine about my personal life.”
“Real love doesn’t mess with your head,” she says. “Real love just is. Real love just endures. Real love maintains. Real love takes it page by page.”
Almost like she’s been writing the pages since before 2016... 😉

Depeche Mode “Shake the Disease” 1985, Mute Records. 12″ single, special edition, UK import. This past weekend the subject of Depeche Mode came up with an old friend who shares a mutual enthusiasm for the band and who is currently re-collecting the band’s catalog on vinyl. I commented how grateful I was that I’ve pretty much hung onto all of my records since I started buying them in the 80′s. This 12″ extended version of “Shake the Disease (Edit the Shake)” is one i’m still very fond of: I purchased this soon after its release in 1985 while on a visit to Los Angeles. While there I heard “Shake the Disease” on KROQ and was thrilled to be hearing the new Depeche Mode single before my friends back in the Midwest – radio stations in small-market Wisconsin cities did not play such dark gothy synthpop in the 80′s.
“Shake the Disease” was Depeche Mode’s 13th single, a stand-alone that DM would include on their 1985 comp album The Singles 81-85 (UK) and Catching Up with Depeche Mode (US). It went to #18 in the UK and into the Hot Dance Club chart top 40 in the US. It’s super-dark, melodically minor: a great bridge from the moving-darker synthpop of Some Great Reward (1984) to the industrial goth Black Celebration (1986). “Alan Wilder felt this song captured the essence of the band, saying that ‘there's a certain edge to what we do that can make people think twice about things. If we've got a choice between calling a song 'Understand Me' or 'Shake the Disease', we'll call it 'Shake the Disease'. There's a lot of perversity and innuendo in our lyrics, but nothing direct.’" (DM website/Wiki)
Also on the 12″ is a live version of “Master and Servant” (originally on Some Great Reward), recorded at their performance in Switzerland in November 1984, as well as upbeat synthpoppy “Flexible (Pre-deportation Mix)” and “Something to Do (Metalmix)” (Some Great Reward).

The Batcave || Alaric & Faith
@allroundlostcause
"Nice. You the man in charge around here?" Faith's impressed and she sounds it. It's been awhile since she's seen pretty, gigantic Alaric (or any of the East Coast Scoobies), and is almost pissed at herself for doing away with Stefan's upgrades and reverting back to her juvenile, gothy kickwear.
Her sleek lines and expensive slacks, draped berry tone shells and camisoles replaced, today, with tall boots and a black muscle tank sporting a gigantic black widow - the same color olive green as the mini pleated corduroy skirt she picked up at Good Will on her way through the Midwest. Ball-chain necklaces, coal rimmed eyes and curled hair. Nails and lips so dark red they'd pass for brown. She looks like a fucking idiot, at her age.
She's almost got an excuse. It was a long hitch. Armory being damn near on the other side of the country and Faith being broke off her ass, habitually. Took longer than she thought. Almost two weeks of hitching, sharing Lyft's with passengers who wanted more than just enough change to cover her mileage and getting busted for sleeping in public spaces and foreclosed properties. The crappiest motel on the planet is where she landed but at least there's a shower, at least there's basic cable, coffee and wifi.
Dead on her feet, though. Keeping up with Alaric on sheer steam, trying not to plop down into one of those too-expensive chairs and just nap through whatever it is he's saying. They're moving through a room where artifacts are being held in glass cases and Faith's brow bends, eyes focused in on a bit of merch they're passing - an antique Colt, under glass like a pheasant. She hikes the strap of her bag to a more comfortable spot on her shoulder and keeps moving, "So, you got somethin' to show me, right? Didn't come all this way to watch you walk, not that I'm complaining."

Surveything
Would your parents care/have cared if you went to the tanning bed? I don’t think they would have cared, when I was younger.  My Mom used to tan.  I prefer my pasty self, though. At what age do you feel like you grew up mentally/emotionally? I don’t think we ever stop growing, and I think Adulthood is kind of a social construct, especially if you consider how many people are over 50 but still act like 3-year-olds.  Plus it’s hard to gauge, since I was never particularly a normal kid.
When was the last time you felt like, if something happened, your life would be a lot better? A better question would be when was the last time I didn’t feel like that. Who’s one person who changed how you viewed something? Pick any writer of any book on my shelves and you’ll have someone who did, at least a bit.
Were you ever scared of driving? What scared you about it? Yes, actually.  I got my driver’s licence late, because I was so uncomfortable with driving, and my little sister’s got the same problem I had.  It doesn’t help that our father has the worst possible temperament for teaching a person that kind of thing.  He’d teach you how to hit a softball, but ask him to get out of his chair for anything serious for which he would have to be a responsible adult, beyond bread-winning, and he tends to get pretty surly.  As for what scared me about it, it’s hard to really put into words.  I think it’s something to do with the fact that I had so little control of my life for such a long time.  It took a while to have confidence in taking control in a situation where if I didn’t do it right, I could die.
What time of day are you at your worst? How do you act? Mornings, I suppose.  I’m winding down and ready to go to sleep, it’s hard to focus on much of anything, I get a bit forgetful.  I don’t tend to be grumpy or anything, though, so when it comes down to it, my daily worst isn’t all that bad. If you have any piercings or tattoos, do you remember the name of the person who did them? I got nothing.
What’s something that someone has said to you in the past that really offended you? There was this old woman on FB, some distant  relative, who tried to guilt-trip me because I wouldn’t do some random family-tree research for her.  I can’t stand people who are only buddy-buddy with people because they want something, and she was one of those kind of people, so it fell pretty flat.  I think mostly I was offended that she thought for a minute that it would work. Would you ever want to go down the same career pathway as either of your parents? Noooooo, nonononono... Is there any part of your appearance that you’re really self conscious about? Wouldn’t mind being in better shape, but I’m working on that.
The most memorable time that you skipped school, what did you do? I never really skipped school.
Did you ever have a favorite teacher in high school? What made them your favorite? A couple of my AP English teachers were pretty great.  They both actually cared about what they were teaching, and did it in fun ways, and were never really mean if a student didn’t understand something.  They were the kind of teachers all teachers should be like.
Do you do that typical girl thing out in public where you have to have someone come into the bathroom with you? I’m not sure how typical that actually is, off of television, but no, I’ve never done that.
Can you think of a time when you were really obviously judged by your appearance? What happened? When I was younger I used to dress much more Gothy, and, this being the Midwest, people reacted about the way you’d expect.  I never minded it, though.  Dressing that way was a good way of weeding out the sort of narrow-minded people I knew I wouldn’t particularly want to be friends with anyway.
What’s something your mother told you growing up that you actually listened to? I honestly don’t remember.  She wasn’t really the child-raising kind of mother.  Even when we got along, I always felt like she was more of a fucked up friend than a parent.
Have you ever written someone a letter then tore it up? Who did you write it to? I don’t think I ever have. Who was the last person you made plans with? My roommate.  At some point, soon, we’re going out for Indian and then we’ll see A Wrinkle in Time. When was the last time someone really got on your nerves? Some guest here at work stole all the candy out of the basket we keep at the front desk.  It’s there for guests to have some, but when you literally dump the whole thing into your purse and walk away without a word, you’re getting greedy.  Part of me feels like it should’ve been funny, but it was just really rude.
Do you ever put clothes on hold at stores and go back up to buy the things you wanted? No. Have you ever stayed up all night texting someone? I’ve got a couple of friends I’ll do that with, sometimes.  It’s easy to do, with the kind of schedule I keep.

music: weekly roundup (our favorite submissions of the week)
Michael Barrow & the Tourists - No Such Thing (As Getting Over You)
The vocals on this immediately caught my attention. There’s something so smooth, soft, and expressive about them. The instrumentals are upbeat and poppy with a fun alternative rock twist. The message of the song in context juxtaposes that nicely - it’s about being stuck on someone which I’m sure everyone can relate to (I know I can).
KOKO - eyes so wide
This is a little bit outside of my wheelhouse for a playlist, but something about the low vocals really caught me off guard. On a normal week, this would be a bit too electro-based for me, but this track really got me going. I don’t go out to clubs, pretty much ever, but if I did this is the kind of song I would want to hear. This has a catchy backbeat, really interesting pacing, and a little bit of mystery. I highly recommend for your going-out playlists.
Far West - Carry Through
This track would be right at home in an indie movie montage. Don’t ask me to delve into that deeper, it’s just something that I know in my heart would fit. It’s a hazy, ethereal, chaotic upbeat bop with lyrics that compliment the steady backbeat very nicely. The second this song started, it reminded me of summer drives to the beach.
hellocentral - Carbon Fiber House
I must have listened to this song about thirty times while I was putting this week’s playlist together. A lengthy, meandering intro sets the tone for vocals that are just a touch melancholic. When the first chorus kicks in, those melancholic vocals kick up a bit and become just a bit gritty. This alt-rock song would be right at home in your playlists featuring bands like Brand New, Have Mercy, the Hotelier, etc.
Loose Buttons - I Don’t Really Know
The opening guitar riff on this is so catchy that it immediately burned itself into my brain maybe forever. Instrumentally, this song reminds me a lot of midwest emo bands like Hot Mulligan or Charmer. The vocals are a bit less emo and a bit more rock, but they mesh so well. This track was a perfect fit for my new favorite curated playlist - autumn but emo. Give this a listen on your next roadtrip.
The Sweet Kill - Explode
With a steady bass line and very laid back instrumentals, this track is subtle and consistent. The vocals are smooth and fit right into the track, considering the slightly gothy/dark mood of the track. This track is a really easy listen with a catchy beat. For fans of the alternative scene, definitely give this a listen.
Last Night Saved My Life - Waterfall
As Im pop punk trash, here’s this week’s pop punk feature. Last Night Saved My Life is a band that’s recently come on my radar (specifically for venmoing spare change to people - I laugh a little bit every time they do it). Their music is everything you want your standard pop punk track to be: quick, melodic vocals, really uptempo, featuring Derek DiScanio (is there a pop punk band he hasn’t recorded with? Genuinely asking). This song will be a welcome addition to your heavy-rotation pop punk playlists (and maybe your venmo feeds?)
Listen to all of these songs on our playlist!
