Op deze dag in 1959 overleed Mike Hawthorn als gevolg van een auto-ongeluk. Hawthorn werd in 1958 gekroond tot de allereerste Britse wereldkampioen Formule 1, waarna hij besloot om met pensioen te gaan. Slechts enkele maanden later raakte hij betrokken bij een zwaar ongeluk op de snelweg. Hawthorn werd slechts 29 jaar.

The race featured an intense battle between the 3 main constructors; Hawthorn in the Jaguar, Fangio’s Mercedes & Castellotti’s Ferrari (both of whom you can see in the D-Types reflection). Although Hawthorn took first place and marked an important step in Jaguar’s racing history, the win was a hollow one. The race also included the horror crash of Pierre Levegh, resulting in the worst loss of life at any motorsport event in history, and an incident in which Hawthorn played an unfortunate part. Ahhhh yes, today we have sweet moments between SM and WW… scenes that remind us of the immense, sweet, necessary, deep and natural friendship they have. Today's scenes in Wonder Woman: Evolution are small representations of what their relationship was like in the past, when Superman was Superman and Wonder Woman was Wonder Woman and not these almost unrecognizable beings we have today. I don't know the direction the story will take, but I liked (with reservations) what I've seen so far.
