it's been on my mind since i've started reading tlou reader-insert, but i just want to let you all know: plus-sized people can exist in the apocalypse. there's a plethora of reasons why:

genetics. lack of eating can cause slower digestion. your body enters survival mode and slows down your metabolism. eating canned, processed foods that outlasted traditionally healthy foods.

people can be plus-sized and still athletic. people can be plus-sized and have 'healthy' lifestyles. people can be plus-sized and not fit your expectation of what being plus-sized is like.

i make this post because, with fatphobic rhetoric always floating around, it's hard to remember that you exist as you are, oftentimes regardless of circumstance.

can we talk about how joel gives ellie a choice in deciding who to follow, and how that’s changed from the game where he simply shows up and asks her to get on the horse? how that’s so important because the line “you deserve a choice” will echo when he takes that choice away from her later? joel offers ellie agency here and she follows him without question. brilliant change that adds a whole layer of depth to the decision joel makes at the end

i got a request earlier this week and im getting ready to write for it, but i cant write anything until i get caught up with school.

but BECAUSE i cant write anything, i have so many different ideas just swirling in my head for multiple Tangerine x Reader pieces.

and because i dont think anyone will see/acknowledge this post, here are the hints/prompts to GET THEM OUT IF MY MIND SO I CAN STUDY FOR MY BIO EXAM:

• bookstore reader x tangerine who’s an avid reader bc he travels so much

• agent reader who’s paired/friends with lady bug on a mission x tangerine — this is after bullet train movie, tan still finds ladybug annoying. meets reader on a mission, doesnt realize that theyre paired with ladybug. cue ladybug and lemon teasing reader and tan about the flirting

• reader x tan — reader is at a club or something for an event for a VERY VERY EXTREMELY rich friend who’s the child of a very important man. tan and lemon were hired to ensure that rich friend’s party clubbing isnt interrupted by people trying to get to said friend to try and blackmail their father. tan is suspicious of reader and somehow gets them alone and is interrogating them. tan doesnt realize that reader is acting HELLA sus only because they find tan attractive. lemon finds them, tells tan to chill tf out and lets reader go back to the party.

• an angsty piece where tan and lemon and reader go see the new john wick movie bc the boys LOVE the series, but like pointing out what really would and wouldn’t happen and how THEY would do the job more efficiently because theyre in the same/similar line of work. reader obviously like hearing about it bc it makes them very nervous for the boys

• i so badly want to write part 2 of New Opportunities because i WANT TO WRITE THE DATE BETWEEN READER AND TANGERINE

in conclusion: i need to hurry up and finish my uni work and also the Fruits need to leave my head

it's not a narrative accident that David the Preacher exists in the same episode as Joel finally accepting Ellie as his new daughter.

David wants to treat Ellie like an ""adult"", he wants to make her some kind of child bride because he sees how smart and worldly she is. David is the kind of guy who thrived during the apocalypse because he was a monster to begin with, and these circumstances allowed him to do what he wanted to do without consequences. He is selfish, self centered, and does not care about people at all. He was a teacher before probably not because he wanted to help students, but so he could have power over them.

Joel is the antithesis of that. Joel did not thrive, Joel lost his purpose, he became aimless. He did evil things and became a type of monster not because he wanted to, but because he had to. In this episode we saw the Joel that made Tommy afraid of him, and he didn't do it for himself, he did it for Ellie. When Joel sees what Ellie had to do to survive he comforts her, he soothes her, he treats her like the child she is.

When Joel and David look at Ellie they both see the same strength and resellience that they have. The main difference is that David thinks Ellie is like that because they both thrive in this environment. Joel sees the truth in it: that they're both like this because the world made them this way, and they didn't have a choice.

not me and @undercoverpena talking about how different Pedro boys would react to a British reader and now I have serious brain rot over Joel Miller being in London for the first time. Sitting in a pub, drinking a £7 pint. Getting jostled when the rugby is on the tv. HIM TAKING THE TUBE. GOING ON THE LONDON EYE TO SEE THE VIEW. Him being blown away seeing Buckingham Palace for the first time.

SO YEAH. That's a thing.

AND DON'T GET US STARTED ON JAVIER PEÑA NOT KNOWING HOW TO HANDLE BRITISH SNARK AND INSULTS.

I've seen a bunch of back and forth about whether or not Joel made the right decision in saving Ellie at the expense of a cure for cordyceps. He's wrong for saving her at the expense of the world. The cure would have worked. The cure couldn't work. The Fireflies are poorly organized militants who can't possibly make this cure work. Marlene is a power hungry psychopath. Ellie would have wanted to give her life if she had the option.

None of this matters because for Joel, in that moment, there was no decision to be made. He is not weighing the fate of the world against the life of one person. He is not thinking of Ellie's agency or lack thereof. There is no weighing of what is right or wrong, for the greater good.

His focus narrows to getting to Ellie and getting her the fuck out of there. That is all he cares about in that moment. There's no moral calculation there's just her. Joel is not rationalizing his actions. He is acting.

As a parent, I can tell you. If someone took my son from me and said we need him to save the world but we're going to cut into his brain and kill him to do it? Fuck the world. The world can burn. You'd have to kill me first.
