"Let's skip class, Moony. Please"

Remus was cursed. Sirius had some sort of power over him. He knew they had to go to class. But how could Remus say no to that beautiful face of his?

"No, Sirius. We shouldn't miss classes"

Remus didn't want to lose the scholarship that he had in that school.

"Please, just this one" Sirius pouted "I need you"

But the fantasy of Sirius wanting to spend time alone with him was amazing. He was asking Remus and no one else. And the idea of being alone with him, made Remus' heart jump with joy.

Remus needed to be strong.

He sighed "Pads..."

"Professor Sprout would not notice"

"We actually have Physics with Professor Frumentar and he always notices who is missing"

"Frumentar is cool"

Remus laughed "He is one of the strictest teachers we have"

Sirius rolled his eyes.

Sirius had been a mess lately. And everyone was worried about him. He didn't sleep well. He didn't eat well. He didn't seem to care about classes or homework. Whatever his awful parents did to him over the summer was worrying him. But of course Sirius didn't want to talk about it.

Remus knew he leaned on Remus because he was weak around him. James would force him to talk and go to class with his cheerful self. And Peter wouldn't know what to do. He would just tell James. So Sirius had been very clingy of Remus since they started school.

It was as if Sirius knew he had power over Remus somehow. He used his more powerful weapons: his gorgeous eyes and that beautiful smile of his.

"I really don't feel well to go to class" Sirius said "I have a headache and I am not ready for the painful mindride that Frumentar's class is"

"I'll take you to see Pomfrey then" Remus answered.

Sirius frowned "I don't want to see Pomfrey" he snapped like a little child "I want to spend time with you"

The way he said it sent shivers down Remus' spine. He wished he didn't fancy Sirius this much. It was a nightmare.

"Please..." Sirius made the best puppy eyes he could.

Remus couldn't help but smile.

"Please Moony... Please please please..." Sirius even begged with his hands "I'll kneel down to beg you..."

"Please don't..."

But Sirius was already on his knees.

"Please my lovely Moony"

"Sirius, get up!" Remus giggled embarrassed. There were a few students watching them.

"I promise I will do anything... I will give you a big chocolate bar...."

"Jesus Christ..."

"The biggest one..."

Remus was embarrassed to be blushing this much.

"Okay okay! Fine!!" Remus said "Get up"

Sirius stood up with a big smile on his face.

"But with the condition that we will catch up with this class" Remus added.

"Deal" Sirius grinned.

Remus' heart warmed to see Sirius happy. At least for a while.

They climbed to the highest tower at Hogwarts. Usually the place where people came to snog, shag or do illegal stuff because no teacher or even Filch dared to climb that many stairs.

Remus was out of breath when they got there. But it was worth it. They view was beautiful. It was out of this world.

Remus and Sirius stared at the paradise in front of them. The Lake, The Forest, Hogsmeade. It looked like a place taken out of a fairytale.

And Remus could feel Sirius' presence next to him. So close, yet so far.

"Do you know that most of Hogwarts students had lost their virginity here?"

Great topic to start with.

Remus laughed "Woow, I could feel some sort of energy"

"Yeah?"

"Yeah... Almost like a sanctuary"

Sirius laughed.

"Did you lose your virginity here?" Remus asked curiously.

"And do it where everyone does it?" Sirius shivered "Disgusting! No thank you"

Remus shook his head but he was smiling.

"But it would be nice to look at the starts while you are at it, you know?" Sirius added "I get why people would think it would be romantic"

Remus didn't know why they were talking about this. A quick desire to be here with Sirius and do stuff rushed through him.

"Also very windy" Remus said "It must be really cold to be here naked"

Sirius smiled at him "While you are doing it, Remus. You don't care about the cold"

Remus' cheeks went red. He wasn't feeling that cold actually.

"Do you want a cigarette?" Remus patted his pockets and he desperately wanted to change the subject.

"You are a life savior" Sirius smiled.

Remus rolled his eyes.

"This is why you wanted me here, right?"

"What else would it be, Remus?" Sirius laughed.

Maybe to take his virginity away? Remus hoped. But he didn't say that. He was going mental.

They smoked in silence. They sat on the floor, looking at the sky and occasionally pointed to a cloud and say what shape it had.

It was really peaceful to be out there.

"Remember how we invented stories with the clouds when we were kids?" Remus asked.

Sirius smiled at that.

"It was amazing!" he laughed "Let's do one now"

Remus smiled "Okay..."

They laid on the floor, looking at the sky. Remus pointed to a cloud.

"I see a witch pushing a baby cart" Remus said "A witch?"

"Look at her ugly fingers" Remus giggled "You can only see her hand"

"Oh I see it"

"Maybe she needs the baby for a sacrifice" Remus added

"Maybe that baby is the antichrist"

"Nice one!"

Sirius giggled, putting his hands behind his head.

"The antichrist destined to provoke the apocalypse" Remus continued.

"There's a unicorn over there" Sirius pointed to another cloud.

Remus could see the horn clearly.

"Oh yeah! Maybe that's an angel trying to stop the witch"

"In Unicorn form?"

"If angels exist, that's what they'd look like"

Sirius snorted.

"Maybe it is not a witch but a demon"

Remus laughed "Our stories had gotten darker with time, ha?"

Sirius laughed.

Then Remus felt Sirius staring at him. It was so intense that he was about to point to another cloud. But then Sirius said.

"I really missed you, Moony"

Remus' heart started beating fast.

"Over the summer?"

"I mean when you left. When you and your family left" Sirius added, quite sad again "I missed you and our silly games. Why didn't you call me?"

Remus remembered his time with Sirius as the most wonderful of his childhood. Between the lack of money, his parents occasional fights, and people bullying him at school for being different, Sirius was the hype of his life. They used to spend all day together. They talked over walkie talkies at night. They were each other's best friends. Remus had loved Sirius ever since.

When it was over, Remus missed Sirius so much as well. He missed the house, the games, their moon pacts, he even missed Regulus.

"I called you" Remus answered now facing Sirius "At least I tried" he added with a sigh "Mum kind of remembered your house's phone number but everytime we tried to call, some of the maids answered or Kreacher. They always said you weren't there or weren't available...." Remus looked down "I thought you didn't want to speak with me"

Sirius' eyes were sparkling with forming tears.

"Mother said you had my number but the reason you didn't want to speak with me was because you got tired of me" he said "She always used to say that nobody would want to be my friend because I was impulsive and a troubled boy" he clenched his teeth "I can't believe I believed her"

Remus hesitated by he touched Sirius' shoulder. Sirius let him. Remus' fingers went to Sirius' hair and Sirius leaned to the touch.

"You were my best friend in the whole world, Sirius" he said trying to fight the tears as well "I wanted to see you and call you but everything happened so fast. My parents dragged me out of that house without explanation..."

Remus remembered how he cried as his father dragged him into the car. How he didn't want to leave. And how Sirius came running after them.

"ROSIE!! ROSIE!!!"

"SIRIUS!!"

Remus stuck his face to the glass. He begged his father to stop but he didn't. He saw Sirius' figure through the back window with tears in his eyes.

"ROOOOSIEEE!"

Sirius would've followed them but Kreacher grabbed him and took him inside the property as he yelled at the top of his lungs. Remus had cried even harder.

They were just kids back then. There was nothing much to do.

"What happened?" Sirius shook his head "They never explained anything to me..."

"Neither to me" Remus confessed "But I think our parents got into a fight. My dad hates your father"

Sirius looked angry now. He clenched his fist and hit the floor.

"Orion definitely did something to your dad..." then he looked at Remus with guilt "They broke us apart, Moony. It was definitely all my family's doing..."

Sirius sounded furious. But Remus calmed him down.

"Hey..." he rubbed his shoulder "We found our way back to each other, right?" he even smiled to emphasize it.

But Sirius didn't look happy.

"They hate me, Remus" Sirius' voice broke, as well as Remus' heart "My parents hate me...."

Sirius hadn't told anyone what happened with his family over the summer or why he ran away. So Remus found it odd that he was talking about them now.

"I knew about Orion" Sirius continued "I mean I'd never been enough for him. He makes it quite clear. He made it clear this summer" he let out a nervous chuckle "But I thought maybe Walburga...." he swallowed "She just stared as he hit me, Remus. Over and over" he added. Remus felt pure rage "She didn't do anything to save me or protect me. And then she told me I was burden for her. She acted like she didn't care if I left. That she, they would be better without me. She never loved me, Remus" Sirius began crying "My mother doesn't love me"

Remus pulled Sirius into a hug. Remus really hated those people. They were absolutely the worst parents in the world. How could they make their son suffer this much? They had made Sirius' life unhappy and traumatizing.

Remus would do anything to make his pain go away. Sirius deserved all the love of the world.

"I am so sorry, Sirius" Remus stroked his hair. He didn't know what else to say. He wasn't good with words like James was. He usually said something silly to make Sirius laugh. But right now it wasn't appropriate.

Sirius didn't sob. He just buried his face on Remus' shoulder. Still, Remus' heart was beating fast for the closeness.

Remus couldn't avoid loving this boy. He had loved him since he was ten. And he hadn't stopped.

Sirius looked up into Remus' eyes. Remus stopped breathing.

"I am so glad that you are my friend again, Moony" Sirius stared into Remus' lips "Don't ever leave me again"

"I am never leaving your side"

Remus wanted to kiss Sirius so badly it was killing him. And why did he feel Sirius wanted the same?

Remus leaned in, Sirius closed his eyes, ready for a kiss. And Remus was going to give him a kiss. But when they were a few inches away, Sirius pulled away.

He cleared his throat.

"We should go or we will miss another class" he said "You wouldn't want that, eh Mr. Lupin?"

Remus took a second to get over what nearly happened between them. Did he imagined it? Was he dreaming? Because Sirius was now acting like nothing had happened.

"Now you want to go to class, don't you?" Remus tutted.

Now that Remus' lips were protesting for Sirius'. Now that his body was on fire. And he wouldn't mind using this place like other students.

But Sirius took it as a joke and he laughed. He pulled Remus to his feet. And Remus remembered what Sirius had told him a few minutes ago.

"Are you okay, Sirius?"

"Ha?"

Remus swallowed "Do you want to talk about what happened this summer..."

Remus saw Sirius' panicked expression. But he pretended to be fine.

"Come on" he said walking to the door "I'll race you downstairs"

Remus was still worried about what Sirius had said. Should he tell James about it? Sirius wasn't okay.

"Sirius..."

"You're gonna lose!"

Sirius was already climbing down the stairs. Laughing at the top of his lungs.

Remus had no more remedy to follow him.

On July 13th, we’ll invite Arlene Ducao (educator at MIT & NUY, CEO of Multimer) to x.factory, to share with us about how changes in digital fabrication cost and culture are changing our understanding of populations and environments.

Arlene’s talk with consist of two main areas of research she teaches at New York University:

an examination of how globalization, the rise of maker culture, and falling costs have changed the face of digital fabrication in China and the United States.

a reflection on how maker culture and falling costs have made the technologies of crowdsourcing, wearable sensors, and citizen science all viable concepts for the (re)development of new places, both indoor, outdoor, and in virtual reality.

Besides, she will also talk about her MIT-spinoff Multimer has worked with the opportunities and challenges of the quantified self in the smart city.

Through its advanced technologies that measure biometric data to quantify human sentiment, Multimer helps architects, urban planners, and space professionals make better design interventions.

Arlene Ducao, creative engineer, entrepreneur, and educator

Arlene Ducao makes technologies that examine the relationship between the natural landscape, our built environments, and ourselves. She is a Principal at the DuKode Studio, a scientific and environmental design firm in Brooklyn, and the CEO and co-founder of Dukode’s affiliate company Multimer, a spinoff from MIT Media Lab. At Multimer, she developed her invention MindRider, the geospatial brainwave-mapping system profiled in WIRED, New York Times, Discovery Channel, MSNBC, Fast Company, Science Channel, and many more.

杜卡阿琳善于利用科技来研究和探索我们与自然环境、人造环境之间的关系。她是DuKode工作室的负责人也是多聚体的CEO。DuKode工作室是位于纽约布鲁克林的一家科学可视化公司，专注科技与环境设计；而多聚体则是从麻省理工实验室走出来的一家公司。上文提及的地理空间脑波数据收集项目MindRider就是杜卡阿琳在多聚体开发出来的。该项目曾被连线杂志、纽约时报、探索频道、微软全国广播公司节目、快公司和科学频道等媒体争相报道。

Arlene is also a recipient of the South by Southwest Winburne Community Service Award for her work on satellite mapping in Indonesia and Kenya, she teaches at NYU and MIT, where she presents a range of topics, from multidimensional data visualization to digital fabrication and its cultural underpinnings. She is also active as an organizer-advocate in the Working Families Party and FUREE (Families United for Racial and Economic Equality). Arlene Ducao holds degrees from UMD, SVA, and MIT.
