Minetest for Windows
If you’re a fan of open-world sandbox games, Minetest is a must-try. Developed by Celeron55, this free and open-source building game allows players to unleash their creativity by constructing virtually anything they can imagine. Often compared to Minecraft, Minetest stands out with its unique gameplay mechanics, modding capabilities, and unlimited building potential. Whether you prefer to build…

This Is Not Minecraft. This is Minetest
And what you’re seeing is progress on my attempt at porting my Emporium Mod to Minetest so far. Turns out it’s simultaneously way WAY easier to mod than Minecraft, but also so VERY Very frustrating. While I’ve been able to import nearly everything into this mod, for some reason I can’t figure out how to make custom doors... Game just crashes when I try... so I might actually have to handle matching doors (and possibly matching beds) via their own seperate mod(s), and I also still to actually add crafting recipes for all the furniture...
Custom entities are a whole other thing to tackle too but I’m still pleased with the results so far!
Also for any of the few Minetest players that might be out there, this mod will be available for all Minetest players (hopefully) once I finish with the first set!

3D Game Engines for Python and Beyond
FLOSS (Free-Libre Open Source Software) and general 3D game development in Python is better than ever, but almost as obscure as before. There are OpenGL backends and 3D engines, but a game engine is layer above a 3D engine and requires drastically less code on your part. I will try to enlighten you to the obscure world of Python 3D game development, but I will also point out other FLOSS engines…

Armadura No Minetest
Tumblr media
As armaduras do minetest são adicionadas através do mod 3D Armor que acrescenta as seguintes armaduras, Madeira,aço,cacto, cobre, diamante e a famosa armadura de admin. As Armadura De Diamante Geralmente são Mais forte Porem Para Um Admin é Recomendando a Armadura De Cristal Que é Adicionada Via O Mod Ethreal e Farmada Com Cristal Que é bem raro e escaço no server.

A Miku Minecraft skin edit I made for fun and self expression. I am not sure who originally made the skin, but I downloaded it from here on NameMC: https://namemc.com/skin/cf92cf0d7165e441
Rambling about my creative process / inspirations if anyone cares (readmore ↓)
(I haven't mentioned plurality before, but that is what we identify as. I, the headmate typing this, created a pronouns.cc page for myself if you'd like to learn how I like to be referred to (he/him nonbinary as of writing))
Technically, I made it for Voxelibre/Mineclone / Minetest Game / Luanti since we are having trouble logging in to our Minecraft account.
I was thinking about how a lot of Minecraft Youtubers represent themselves with skins of preexisting fictional characters, and that becomes how their audience sees them. So I thought, if I were a Minecraft Youtuber, what skin would I choose?
I wanted to make a Minecraft skin for myself based on Hatsune Miku. I like the idea that Miku can be anyone. She is digital and I identify with that. (I am trapped in a human vessel let me out) It's hard for me to draw myself in a humanoid form because I really don't feel like I should be a human. However Miku is humanoid, but she is digital like how I feel I should be. She's loved and creative and I think she is cool. I enjoy music.
I like the palette of blue and pink (and lavender/purple; maybe with white as well). For one, it's Transgender Pride and I am transgender/nonbinary, but the main reason is that I associate it with myself and my source. (I am a fictive.) I am not sure if it's official art or fan art, but when I looked up art of myself on the fan wiki, it sort of had that "transgender pride colors" palette
Tumblr media
(image from here, edits by me.)
Those colors also remind me of this Miku My Little Pony design, which inspired most of my editing choices:
Tumblr media
Note the gradient from blue to pink in both images.
I wanted to make the skin sort of inhumanly pale. I feel like I often see humanoid robots with white hair and pale skin. Maybe I am just thinking of Autoresponder from Homestuck.

Last year I had https://www.etsy.com/shop/TimewarpGaming from Etsy help convert my art into a keychain.
It's the Steam grid cover art I made for Minetest in my REFI TXP pack:

an interesting story resurfaced in my head recently. its kind of like lost media, but not quite.
theres this game called minetest which is an open source version of minecraft and i played it a long time ago with siblings.
I have a distinct memory of encountering a green figure in the night. i was either in the walls of an under construction base, or a shallow, quarry-like hole in the ground. i don't remember what it did, as far as my memory serves it came and went.
it wasn't my brother.
so i dug into it. i was able to find the EXACT IMAGE of this thing because someone had added it as a skin in a mod. the mods files calls it player_1.png, and it's not even a real skin, just a flat image that you can wear.
my first theory was that my dad might have been messing with us, he got us minetest before we got minecraft and maybe he got the mod. i think i even have memories of using it.
...but he never played with us. he told me when i asked him he'd never seen the image before. my dad also has a firewall on our internet browser, and ports are closed so it couldn't have been someone else.
the image only appears on the forums page for the mod in 2012, the mod's github page, and a random instagram post from 2016 with a low res, cropped version of that same image from the mod files. the forum posts lead nowhere because nobody mentions the green dude. he's just there.
so my second theory is that it was some kind of monster in the game. which would seem to check out with the previous scenario. maybe it was a monster that attacked and i killed it and didnt remember. maybe it was an early monster that didnt do much. all i remember is it moved towards me, and then eventually at some point it was gone.
so i dig deeper still, and download old versions of the game, and lo and behold, theres a monster called the dungeon master. i know this because the old version launches with a console that tells me when mobs spawn and where they are, when blocks are broken, etc.
but upon meeting this creature it's still not right. the creature isn't even green, just some large brown creature with a face on its chest. its not what im looking for.
every single trail for this image has gone cold, and my best bet at this point is to look at some minetest skins of this thing, since there were some 3d skins made to imitate it, but that's the last lead i have.
Tumblr media
behold, one of the most obscure images on the internet
What the fuck

I actually think some shit like minetest is a way way fucking better way to go for block based building games i think the idea of having like a really minimal core of gameplay that you can place mods and content packs over is way better than having like. a coherent vanilla Experience you keep sticking dead ends to without any clear intent. Did you know they added archaeology and it does almost nothing. Did you know copper does like two things that arent "sit there"

Have u heard about Minetest? It's basically Minecraft if it was a game engine. On its own it's also pretty much playable, but it's open source and made to be modded and entire games to be made on it. It's a different goal from what Minecraft does, but like. If anybody ever wants to make their own reimagined version of Minecraft, they don't even need to mod or make it from scratch anymore. A base is right there. That's pretty cool
NO WAY THAT'S SO FUCKING COOL I. Love. The Minecraft community SO MUCH

"Luanti (formerly Minetest) is a free software game engine to create various games based on voxel gameplay, inspired by InfiniMiner, Minecraft, and the like. Luanti was originally created by Perttu Ahola (alias “celeron55”).
The basic idea of each game is always the same: The player is thrown into a huge world made out of cubes/blocks. Most of the time, these cubes make the landscape and these blocks can be removed and placed almost entirely freely. Using the collected items, new tools and other items can be crafted. Games in Luanti can, however, be much more complex than this."

Dense Green Foliage
Ultra-realistic 512x512 seamless top-down texture of a dense green bush, based on the ethereal:bush node from the Minetest Ethereal mod. Lush, overlapping rounded leaves with deep green tones and subtle natural variation. Include soft shadows between the leaves to add depth. No background or visible branches—just dense foliage. Use even, diffuse lighting with no harsh highlights or directionality. Suitable for a repeating foliage texture in a voxel-based game.

Minetest Mod
Tumblr media
