One of the biggest Miss Fisher Mysteries is that @rositalg is a fan who has done so much for this fandom, and I don't even know who she is. The impressive thing is that she does it so quietly and without looking for popularity for herself. Walking in the wind

Harry Styles has a gift for answering a question and not answering it at all at once. In the Made in the A.M track by track he said WITW was inspired by Paul Simon’s song Graceland.

I love how Harry's solo work draws modern inspiration from his diverse music tastes and he encourages his fans to broaden their tastes. Hindsight being 20/20 you can see where he went with his debut in that short video and this song.

When Simon wrote Graceland he and Carrie Fisher were divorcing and his relationship with Art Garfunkel was bitter. Simon said Graceland was a metaphor for the journey to mend a broken heart. Much like 2015 Harry who had broken up with Taylor and was on tour as One Direction ended. Simon also went to Africa to make this album, much like Harry went to South America for debut.

Timeline

Made on the AM was written in Japan in February 2015. Harry talked being able to just write 'good songs' because it wouldn’t be toured which made space for a song like this. WITW was probably written between February and May 2015. Harry and Taylor had been close at the end of 2014, it was over on or by his 21st birthday 2 February 2015. His smile when he saw her at the start (0:29) of BBMAs showed no animosity, but it’s unlikely WITW was written after the BBMAs in May (Woman). He also started looking even sadder live then.

To rolling stone Julian Bunetta said:

“That title was born in Japan. Just the title of it and the idea of it. Everyone’s different experiences of what they’re going through, whether it’s this or that, I’d like to think that these songs can apply to more than just [one instance].”

The relaxed and happy tone depicts their romantic friendship that continues. I think they genuinely cared for each other, are nice people who both prioritised their careers. To me, “the fact we can say goodbye means we’ve already won” shows that mutual respect for each other.

To me “Do you believe I’ll never be too far” is agreeing to be apart while they focus on being massively famous and together in the future.

In the context of their later work about being end game, the 1, sushi is about having only a piece of your persons life, in as it was and golden he sings about it being time or feel her taking over.

Harry does not have anyone that would never be too far in a literal sense, and although at that time he was always with 1D they have spoken in interviews that year of that not being good.

Taylor has a similar lyric in The 1 “But we were something, don't you think so? / Roaring 20s, / tossing pennies in the pool / And if my wishes came true / It would've been you” this is about appreciating the relationship.

Where their earlier work on Red and other 1D albums sung about always wanting to be together and coping in their career by Made in the AM and Reputation onwards they started singing about being connected but apart, on faith they’d come back together.

[Verse 2: Louis] Yesterday, I went out To celebrate the birthday of a friend But as we raised our glasses up to make a toast I realised you were missing

This may be referring to Lily Aldridge’s birthday where they both were. Harry’s 21st birthday was 2 weeks later but Lily and Taylor were in Nashville. In Hunger he sang about making her cry on his birthday, if it was for Debut the 1 year to 2 timeframe line up for that. (Hunger also sings of “your stuff” as in music, doesn’t taste the same, as in Two Ghosts)

Later on 27 February he posted the overgrown winding wheel and she started dating CH.

[Bridge: Harry] And I know we'll be alright, child Just close your eyes and see I'll be by your side Any time you're needing me Oh, yeah

The bridge is similar to Fine Line, which also ends on “we’ll be alright” in Fine line he’s reflecting on being friends with someone he’s in love with. Here he is asking his muse to have faith that although they are not together he’s there for her. Also Sign of the Times "Just stop your crying / It'll be alright"

I just wanna love you leak

In September 2023 a leaked song, I just wanna love you referenced WITW with “A week ago you said to me: "We've started running out of time" / Crying over memories that we lost and cannot be found / Why don't we stop talking now? / (I just wanna love you)” which to me, in the sound and this lyric is the sequel to WITW, he’s saying it’s time. It also refers to Late night talking, and The 1 and Question…? Where they explore friendship with someone they love, in WITW they seem to agree to leave a live unresolved, on Harry’s House and Midnights they are contemplating that unresolved love.

Varl (Horizon)

Aloy did not appreciate this good dude nearly enough. I want Varl to be my BFF. T_T But HFW happened and... I won't say too much about that or we'd be here all day. He's alive in my head and that's all that matters.

Cimorene (The Enchanted Forest Chronicles)

Cimorene! She's no-nonsense and clever. She wasn't a fan of being treated like a princess so she went and "got captured by" a dragon so people would stop bothering her, and helps her cook and organize her library. I mean, goals.

Loki (MCU)

I wasn't into the MCU when it started getting big, and in fact I didn't see any of the movies until I read someone on Tumblr (c. 2012) going on about (paraphrased) how awful it was that people liked Loki because he was the absolute worst and if you liked him you were a gross immoral person and you should feel bad. So I went and watched this Avengers movie everyone was talking about. And guess what haters? He is terrible and I love him.

Parker (Leverage)

Although I am not brave enough to throw myself off buildings, sometimes I amuse myself by thinking "what would Parker do?" and since a canonical option involves stabbing someone who's bothering her with a fork and jumping out a window, the thought cheers me up even if I can't do that.

Aziraphale (Good Omens)

He just wants people (aside from Crowley) to leave him alone in his bookshop. He never fits in with his "side" but tries to do what they want anyway, because that's the good thing to do, and he wants to be good. I can relate so hard, buddy.

Milo Thatch (Atlantis: The Lost Empire)

Ok so... I totally had a crush on Michael J. Fox and I was already interested in linguistics back when this movie came out, and then here's a main character voiced by him who was a linguist! Milo had to be my favorite :D

Elena Fisher (Uncharted)

I will fully admit that some of my initial love of Elena came from her AI covering my panic-flailing self early on in the first Uncharted game (I'm THE WORST at games with guns, even on easy, it's actually embarrassing) - but she impressed me right away when she was not overly impressed by Nate. And her snark game is on point.

Zeb (Star Wars Rebels)

I feel like Zeb needs more love. Comic relief character who actually has an unbelievably tragic backstory! And his story has so much untapped potential! We never really get to explore what happened with Lasan, and then then dump Kallus in there with his defection to the Rebellion and his whole *handwaves* history with the Lasats and eventual apparent (b)romance with Zeb - and the show had so little to say about it! Huge angsty storytelling miss right there. (Dave why.)

Brian Finch (Limitless [2015])

This dude! Lovable but he would be SO exasperating to deal with IRL. His arts-and-craftiness just resonated with me. He was always making stuff out of toothpicks and yarn and papier mâché and clay and and and- I'm still mad this show only got one season.

All right, folks, signups have been open for 3 days - here's how things are going:

353 offers from 263 creators in 176 fandoms (including 93 write-in fandoms, and 42 folks offering to work in any fandom.)

The signups so far include 238 offers for written fanworks, 47 for fan art, 32 for podfics, 26 for fan labor (beta, specialist expertise, translation, etc), 1 for video, and 9 for 'other' (including typesetting for print, playlists, origami, and more).

Creators are overwhelmingly choosing to let their bidders decide what org to support (231 for 'bidder's choice'), but for those who have selected orgs, the top two are TLDEF (87) and Any/All abortion funds (82). The orgs selected least often are Xerces (22), The Appeal (18), and Razom (17).

We'll be giving additional detail for fandoms over the weekend (bring on the Unlisted Fandom Challenge!!), but for now ... here's a quick peek at listed fandoms that don't yet have any signups:

Who makes the world a better place, looks gorgeous doing it, and knows how to have fun along the way?

b) the fabulous, talented MFMM fanwork creators who make fanworks for the @fandomtrumpshate auction!

Fandom Trumps Hate is an annual fanworks auction that raises money for a number of small, progressive nonprofits: organizations that support trans rights, that advocate for immigrants and refugees, that protect pollinators and work on habitat restoration, support people seeking abortions, and more. (You can see the full list of 2024 organizations here.) Over the past seven years, thousands of fans have come together through the auction to raise nearly $240,000.

There are two ways to participate in Fandom Trumps Hate:

sign up to create fanworks. Fan creators are the ones who make the auction happen by offering their time and talents to other fans. You'll have space to tell potential bidders what kinds of things you're especially excited to create, as well as what kinds of things fall outside your sphere of interest or comfort. You'll also have the chance to narrow down the list of organizations that your auction will support, if you feel strongly about a couple of causes in particular. Signups are open through February 19th.

bid on creators who are offering to make MFMM fanworks. Is there a song you love which would make a perfect Phrack vid? Have you always secretly craved a Roman Empire AU, or a story about Dot's childhood? Bidding on another fan creator is a great way to make that happen! If you win an auction for a given creator's work, you'll make a donation to one of the organizations that creator has identified, and then you and that creator can get started dreaming up the fanwork that will hit your sweet spots. Bidding will be run from March 5th-March 9th.

There are a handful of MFMM fics written for the auction over the years (including one by me!) but it would be fabulous if there were lots more this year! If you are a lover of MFMM fic (or gifsets, or vids, or art, or any other kind of non-tangible fanwork) please consider signing up as a creator, or taking part as a bidder!

I personally am willing to wait however long you need for one of your works (even if it isn’t in a fandom I’m from) because I know your works are always absolutely amazing and nothing short of a masterpiece. <3

Have you listened to Ariana’s new album and Hozier’s new EP? I loved ‘We can’t be friends’, ‘don’t wanna break up again’, ‘boy is mine’, and ‘I wish I hated you’ from Ari’s album specifically, although every song in that album was so good. ‘Too Sweet’ and ‘Fare Well’ were my favorite from Hozier’s album, the guitar in both is just so good.

My recommendation for this time (if you haven’t heard it already) is Luna Day’s ‘Obsessed’ and ‘Say it Back’. Unrequited love songs will always have a special place in my heart.

I never watched it, but I might eventually, I don't mind silly murder mysteries occasionally, I like Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, my life is murder, some episodes of murder she wrote BUT especially my life is murder, a Australian/new Zealand show staring LUCY LAWLESS. It is so cute, and Lucy can't help playing a badass. A lot of conservative actors or normie actors are gay for pay and hated it the whole time, I remember watching Colin Farrell say kissing a dude was gross in an early 00s interview and it was just unprofessional and lazy. You're a damn actor sir. Kissing the uncomfortable intimacy with a stranger is acting class 101. Off topic but Playing up homoeroticism in interviews is a very recent trend. Back in the day straight actors playing gay characters used to go out of their way saying how gross it was, but they suffer for their art. Now professor X and Magneto flirt in interviews for the fans. And every actor who plays friends in films pretend like they have some deep romantic connection. When they don't even talk to each other after. What's better using homoeroticism to get a fanbase/attention for your film or openly saying it's gross. Straight people can't be normal.

I've been a fic writer for over 25 years, so I have thousands of fics. 9. How do you find new fic to read? I follow a few AO3 bot blogs, some rec blogs, and a ton of fic writers. I also love reading stuff people recommend to me from fandoms I may or may not be in...as long as I have a passing familiarity with the fandom I'll read it.

16. What’s an AU you would love to read (or have read and loved)? Oooh! I have an answer for this that I have read! My friend @dreaminonao3 has a few fics started that are modern-era Pride & Prejudice (2005) reimaginings with Caroline, Mary and Kitty paired off with her amazing OMCs Thurston, Leland and Gabe, respectively. I also really enjoy her modern au!Penthony (Anthony/Penelope) fics for the Bridgerton fandom and her rewrite of MCU canon where Steve wasn't from the 40s but he was actually a Templar Knight (I am also the inspiration for her popular fic enabler fic, so yeah...I'm her biggest fan).

48. What’s the last fic you read? Do you recommend it? The last fic I read was a Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries ficlet called Vows that I do highly recommend (married!Phrack, sickfic)

So, I made a thing, it took me 6 hours and I’m not sure if animation is my thing but I’m absolutely thrilled with how it turned out!

Behold, baby Mickey having an existential crisis over how to tell his not boyfriend that he misses him. Ian misses him, too, if you didn’t already know that. Except Ian tells Mickey, whispers it in his ear when he has him bent over in the dugouts, tattooed fingers gripping chain link while Ian is balls deep. And Mickey just whines at it and Ian knows he missed him too.

We have no doubt that Phryne and Peregrine would both be Prince fans. 

The virtuoso songwriter and performing artist’s home was Minneapolis. His private estate and production complex, Paisley Park, is “...a place where art, music, fashion, and culture are celebrated and inspired by the visionary creative spirit of Prince.” It’s located about a half hour from St. Paul, and open for tours.

A bit late but here you go!

Drawing. I don't know what you were expecting from me, but drawing must go on top. May it be homework, sketches, anatomy studies or fan art (from time to time, my original characters), I'm always up to something. Mostly because I get easily bored if I don't do something with my hands.

Reading. Huge nerd for fantasy books, but I'm incredibly nitpicking since my favourite part is the world building (it has become quite difficult to find good books that have also good in-deep lore of the world where they are set in, along with characters well-developed and not some cardboards). In the last few years, I've started reading also some manga. They're good. I also like classical literature, now I'm busy reading Classic English Literature in their original language. I'm quite a fast reader, if my adhd allows it 😅

Playing DnD. Mostly Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder. I like playing my silly characters and going on silly adventures and being a lil whimsical myself. Thinking of it, now most of my original character are somehow related to DnD, even if I don’t have a proper campaign to play them 😭😭😭 at the end of the day, I still like creating characters and stories.

Listening to music or podcasts. My favourite background noises when I have to do something 💖I should mention that fall in this category also the various "six hours long video commentary and in deep lore on [insert movie/tv series/whatever]" and the various DnD campaigns I follow.

Watching (my fav) TV series or movies. I'm one of those people who would rewatch their fav shows constantly. Incredibly, most of them are crime drama/thriller 😂. Some of my favs include: "Murder, She Wrote", "Criminal Minds", "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries", "Bones" and "Law and Order" and a lot more (some of them are italian, and I doubt somebody would recognize them)
