Since Crwby decided to play it straight with Penny and Pinocchio (turning her into a meat person), I can't wait for Salem to set Qrow on fire!! =D
don't we might get a shitty phoenix metaphor

You know something, you've had a love of the Zelda series since you were a little girl, ever since Ocarina of Time came out, but I don't think I've ever asked you why you, specifically, love it so much. Like, what made this your lifelong obsession when it comes to gaming? I guess it just never occurred to me because when we were kids, it was just as much a part of my life as it was yours, so it's like one of those "it's all I've known" kind of things.
Rose you opened up a can of worms that even I wasn't ready for. You expected a few sentences? Nah you get an essay with more effort put into than anything I've ever done in school.
I don't even think I covered it all.
Your interests as a kid can heavily influence your interests as an adult. I grew up with Ocarina and Majora and just kept following the series.
I don't know I guess it is a "it's all I've known" thing for me as well but it's one of those VERY few game series I follow adamantly. Kingdom Hearts is another one I love for the characters and their personalities and connections, but that was part of my life into my mid teen years, not since I was 5 like LoZ (and Resident Evil).
I don't know. I just really enjoy playing them, the simple stories with a random gut punch of depth here and there, the characters, the familiar gameplay with a fun gimmick (let's stop pretending gimmicks are inherently bad).
Link may be a blank slate of a character but sometimes he shows his own personality, while subtle at times. Link is a hero you can't help but admire. He's diligent in some games, but a goofball in others. He's a loving brother and grandson, embarking on a personal journey to save his sister and he finds himself on a quest to save the world as well. Or he may be skilled yet gentle warrior with a soft spot for children and animals, a farm boy chosen by the gods, destined for greatness.
The Hero of Time, a young, lonely hero with many faces who can't save everyone no matter how hard he tries. Forgoing his own happiness, he carries the burden of the dead to bring happiness where he can and prevent the end of the world after already doing it once.
A lazy schoolboy with impeccable skill at swordplay and lofting flight, dealing with everything from school bullies to the embodiment of evil itself. His love for his best friend being his motivation.
A teenager who just wants to go home, shipwrecked on an island that only exists in the dreams of a god. His desire to leave supersedes the lives of people who weren't even real but the bonds he made with them were.
An amnesic who's either a trash gremlin who eats dirt and frogs, running through a thunderstorm buck naked, or a stoic knight, set on sealing the great evil away alongside the princess, as is his duty. His personality is truly your personal choice.
In several cases, Link's motivation is saving someone he loves, be it family or friends, but fate and circumstances have something more in mind for this young man with humble beginnings.
~
Zelda herself is so different each game as well. She may be a dainty princess who seeks help, using what power she can to call to you in the dead of night. A young woman hidden in plain sight, guiding you through your journey even if it isn't obvious to some. A respected child pirate who's got a heart of gold, and captain of a loyal crew at her beck and call. Your best childhood friend who just wants to go to the fair and maybe see a magic rodent.
Your best friend and classmate who will ALWAYS be your Zelda even if she's a god.
A wise ruler who knows surrender will save her people if only for a time until someone on the outside can help, but she is also incredibly adept in battle in her own right, shooting Ganondorf while STANDING ON THE BACK OF A GALLOPING HORSE.
A young woman, pressured by her desperate father into unlocking a power she can't, anxious to help in any way she can. Starting off as an overwhelmed brat and growing closer to her appointed knight, finally unlocking her god given powers when it's seemingly too late. Zelda may not be in the spotlight most times, but she's important.
Your various companions, like them or hate them, are another thing that I like when they're there. Navi, the fairy assigned to guide the Kokiri who doesn't belong, is the only constant on Link's journey in Hyrule, wordlessly parting ways when her job is done. A powerful old man cursed by his own apprentice, Ezlo learns humility throughout your journey and leaves you with a parting gift to remind you of your time together.
A deposed princess angry at the world, Midna is cursed into the form on a catty imp by the very man who stole her rightful place on the throne. When kindness is given to her on her deathbed, her motivation is less about her and more about the lives of her own and Hyrule's people.
An emotionless android by design, Fi is knowledgeable on everything in the world, in the sky and below. During your journey, her stoic disposition is broken only once, as she tells you her understanding of happiness before saying the two words you've heard countless times on your journey, and hides away into the newly forged Master Sword one final time.
~
The antagonists have I less to say about but they're there. Disconnected from reality, Zant is a greedy, false king among a people who have been conditioned to have no selfish desires, only able to usurp the throne by using a power he didn't earn. Ghirahim is an eccentric leader of monsters, a dedicated tool to the evil demon king who started it all. He is a force to be reckoned with who relishes in the suffering of others.
Vaati is an arrogant mage who seeks a magical force to grow more powerful. Skull Kid felt abandoned and forgotten by his friends, so he made new ones and stole an evil relic with more power than he could handle. He had no idea what he was in for, in the end he was not wearing the mask, the mask was wearing him.
Ganondorf's motives for power and control are kind of the same in his every appearance but in Wind Waker at least his motive is understandable. Instead of power for the sake of it, he wanted to help his people, but it seems he approached it in the wrong way and went astray. His greed doomed his people and he was blind to the destruction he caused. My enjoyment of Ganondorf is surface level, not much depth for the most part.
I probably put more into this than necessary but my feelings and interpretations are why I love this series. I love the characters, companions, the settings. The game may primarily focus on swordplay but with all the fun tools at your disposal, you can play how you want.

Do you think there's any way James can come back from this? Besides dying, I mean, cuz I don't want him to die. I just feel like it was such an ass-pull on the CRWBYs part, like they knew they had developed a good character but didn't want us to like him so they had him do something unforgivable/unjustifiable. It's the same demonization of a sympathetic character that they did with Ozpin, and their treatment of these characters really makes me ill. I don't hate James, I hate the CRWBY for this.
My thoughts precisely. In any other character an action like this would be pretty unforgivable, but that wasn’t Ironwood. That was RT writing some new, terrible character we’ve never seen before. So yeah, I definitely don’t want him to die for something he never should have been doing on screen in the first place.
The only sure-fire way I can see him coming back from this is if RT decides to downplay the action and emphasize Ironwood’s previous, actual, sympathetic characterization. Which wouldn’t be impossible because it looks like at least some people in the fandom are of the opinion that shooting Oscar wasn’t that big a deal to begin with. I don’t agree with that... but given the assassination to Ironwood’s character I’d accept the story adopting that same perspective lol. Things go so badly with Salem and the group only just manages to survive, so when the smoke clears no one cares anymore what happened leading up to that survival. The point is they made it and now need to move forward, all of them. Or we bring back the theme of forgiveness that we’ve lost since Volume 6. Remember when Ruby used to have sympathetic conversations with Torchwood? And asked Raven to join them because she knows they’re family? Remember when Emerald and Mercury were important characters whose stories were asking questions about when someone has gone too far and whether you can/should forgive others for doing horrific things stemming back to their abuse, trauma, and need for support? Remember how Ozpin tried to explain to Yang why he doesn’t want Lionheart’s legacy irrevocably tarnished because of one big (if massive) mistake?
We’ve dropped that completely. Ever since Ozpin himself became the character in need of forgiveness. So it would be great if we could bring that back for him and Ironwood. Like hey... if you all were once willing to forgive the literal villains of this story, how about you do the same for the heroes making the hard calls to try and keep everyone safe? Shooting Oscar wasn’t a hard call, it’s the outlier of the volume and Ironwood’s characterization, but everything else he’s done is not only understandable but arguably justified (which is what I’ve been doing for the last couple months lol). So imo RT should just acknowledge that they screwed up there and pretty much ignore that shooting moving forward. Downplay the murderous aspect in a way some are already reading the scene. So he shot him? He fell? Big deal. That happens all the time in this story.
The only reason why I might not want to sacrifice consistency (that definitely was a kill shot...) for Ironwood’s characterization is because of Oscar himself. Oscar has been THE character taking all the beatings the last two volumes, none of them deserved. So a part of me hates that the only solution for Ironwood is to make the worst treated character smile and shrug through another horrific attack. Like he did with Qrow. Like he did with Jaune. Now it’s Ironwood’s turn. Either way one of them is screwed. Either Ironwood remains simplistically evil for this action or Oscar is forced to forgive the worst attack on him to date... and I hate that RT created that situation in the first place. Both characters deserve so much better.

The faunus subplot was dropped so hard, even Blake forgot she's a faunus.
blake got hit with the useless lesbian stick so hard by the fndm and writers that she lost every interesting part of her character beyond being stuck to yang at the hip lmao

Do you think crwby even cares about Oz and Oscar? Because I feel like they don't. They keep brushing them aside like they're not important while trying to tell us that they are. I've expressed concern about that myself (on ozpin-defense-squad) but I wanted to know your thoughts on the matter. Do you think crwby even cares about our Oz boys?
i think that oscar has been historically mishandled and consistently used as oz’s meatsuit, and i had hopes that this would change this volume. we’ve seen glimpses but i’m still afraid that oscar is going to be shoved into the background yet again. though, we still have an oscar and james training scene to see so !! maybe he’ll finally tell papa wolf ironwood about rwbyjnr’s abuse of him and ozpin lmao. james is gonna be the new social services for atlas.
crwby consistently keeps on throwing ozpin under the bus and it’s getting real tiring lmao. he and ruby are literal parallels this volume and they’re still finding a way to go oh, b-but it’s okay when ruby lies and puts innocent lives in danger bc shocker, it’s hard to trust now isn’t it cupcake. there was a lot of talk last volume and i’m not seeing the action this volume to make it count so. maybe that’ll change in the next few episodes.

I’ve got a little request regarding character design. I’d like to have someone take a look at some character designs I have for an original story. Fashion and character design are some of my passions (when I have the motivation for them uhuhuh), so I’d like someone to check them out. However I do have criteria for who I’m willing to share these with and those requirements are:
We have had conversations before on any of these blogs (ODSalt, Ozpin-Defense-Squad, MissRoseyRed, or RoseyRed-Art), a.k.a. I know you.
You have been critical of the Atlas outfits, because those are Actually Awful (tm).
I’m not going to be sharing these with too many people, because as I said these are for an original story and I do have to protect my work, so I am going to be very selective, but please don’t take it personally if I don’t share them with you. It really just depends on how well I know you. Please only respond to this post in the comments. If I choose to share them with you, I will initiate a DM.
Thank you!

Oh my does this only add to my feelings that Salem and Oscar meeting is NOT going to go well haha. I promise nothing will get to me as long as its in a fictional show, so no matter how upsetting the content I will personally be fine. If anything I’ll just enjoy some angst potential and the discussion points I’ll gain from it.
But I’d still like to say based off this reply, anyone else who follows me and isn’t a first member who is more sensitive to upsetting content, please be wary and perhaps reach out and ask your first member friends what warnings you will need.

Nothing the voice actors say is canon. In fact, nothing the writers say is canon either. RWBY has no canon. The conflicting medias and other nonsense have proven that.
literally everyone who ever worked on rwby : canon is what i decide

I've noticed that Oscar, a shy boi, doesn't have too much trouble speaking up...unless it's for himself. If he tries to stand up for himself, he gets shut down and that is so, so sad, like when he said "We're not the bad guys here", assuming he meant himself and Oz, what happened next? Jaune assaulted him. It's just something I've noticed, if there's an injustice, he'll speak up, unless the injustice is towards him, and that is just so sad. Makes it feel like his "friends" are abusing him...
Yes, I’ve noticed that as well. He backs up Ruby at the farm, tries to increase morale while at Argus, then reassures everyone that he’ll still help them up until he can’t anymore. This is the kid who decided to set off into the world to help people, despite the fact that unlike all our other heroes he never signed up for that. The guy who is attacked, ignored, and decides after just a few hours to swallow his discomfort and cook them all dinner. Oscar is such a good person and like Ozpin it’s much easier for him to extend that goodness towards others rather than himself.
I’ve seen a post going around pointing out how confident Oscar is when he fights Ironwood, which makes sense given the context. Ironwood has thus far only treated him with respect. Asking him to fight is easier than asking him to, say, stick up for himself. I just hope that sometime soon Oscar is able to take some of that confidence and apply it to his interactions with the group. Or rather, I hope that the writing acknowledges that this is a problem to begin with. Treating Oscar as they have for the past two volumes and then topping that off by telling the same lies and keeping the same secrets they ended up punishing him for (regardless of whether Ozpin was their target)... Oscar deserves more than just a soft one liner to Ruby about how maybe she’s acting like Ozpin. I want him to overhear that nonsense about how is Ruby is supposedly different and really challenge them on that. No. You’re not different and I don’t deserve to take the heat for Ozpin’s mistakes or to keep quiet as you repeat his choices without acknowledging that you owe us both an apology.

Hi Owl, ODS here, I've been a little scared and shy to ask, but what do you think of IronWitch (James and Glynda). I got serious vibes from them in v2&3 (and that elevator bit was suspect), but I wanted to know what you think about it.
i fucking love ironwitch so much, it’s one of my fave ships for both james and glynda because i love that uptight, stern woman who can take a bish out in the blink of an eye and her strong, caring, loving man who’s a hidden soft and would die for her dynamic so much. their moment during the dance in vol2 gave a lot of insight into both james vulnerabilities and how glynda has worked out how to handle them and give james advice that he’ll actually take. however there is conflict in their relationship to be worked through because of the difference of opinion in v3 over amber and the pod; which could’ve lead to a lot of juicy development moments if glynda was ever allowed to exist again.
seriously i miss her lmao.

"If you hate the show then just stop watching" has become the fndm equivalent of "oh yeah well, your mom!" No substance, no creativity, and no point.
honestly yeah like. what does it actually add to the situation besides what they really want to say which is "stop rightfully criticizing a show i like you're making me feel baaaaaad wahwah" which is like. pathetic.

Regarding a post from earlier, as somebody who identifies under the ace umbrella, I would like to ask someone who is not ace what they would consider to be "ace stereotypes".
now i will preface   —  mainly to others reading this ask  —  that i’m not asexual, as pointed out in the ask lmao, but also that these are just stereotypes i’ve heard from  /  discussed with ace or aro people, mainly my friends. these can always vary depending on the person !
a main one has been the desexualization or infantilization of ace  /  aro people, that because they don’t enter romantic or sexual relationships they’re essentially treated as children in grown up bodies.
the connection between the previous trope but heavily in moc, especially asian men. this was prevalent in one of my last fandoms, the 100, & had made some asian men & asexuals uncomfortable. a common headcanon for ren is that he’s asexual which isn’t problematic on it’s own but can come with some negative connotations in the desexualization of east asian men.
assigning robotic  /  inhuman behaviour to ace  /  aros? just because they don’t feel sexual  /  romantic attraction doesn’t mean they don’t feel period. acearo people have fulfilling relationships & lives, they just might not be in romantic or sexual ones.
also off that last one, making nonhuman characters ace  /  aro. if there are other ace  /  aro human characters in the cast, it eases the negative stereotypes but as we’ve seen with rwby & the common headcanon for penny, there are no confirmed asexual  /  aromantic people in the cast so it comes off poorly.
these are the main ones i can think of & i’m always down to listen to ace  /  aros own opinions on this ! i highly value the input 💞

We wouldn't be "screaming" about wasted potential if there wasn't so much wasted potential. Why is this guy popping up all of a sudden just to be annoying? Bro, get a hobby, like knitting.
If I had a nickel for every RWBY simp who decides to check the rwde tag just to piss themselves off, I'd buy NASA.
Tumblr media
they have a hobby, it's called harassing rwby critics while dropping 4k a month on taisummer fanart.
oh also gaslighting people, being racist, defending a genocide & comparing the "htdm" to the "bad side of the autism spectrum" like. begone trash.
