Cry (One-shot)
Nanami x Reader
Summary: Love was never an option for you. Until you met him.
Content warning: ANGST (Yes, this is about Shibuya) Do not read this if you are already sad or if you’re happy, still don’t read it.
Word count: 2.2k
A/N: Felt a little angsty, sorry besties.
Love only comes for those who are willing to get hurt by it, your mother used to say.
You should’ve known it was a warning.
Life as a sorcerer wasn’t for the average person. The imminent danger, the great possibility of death along with the realization that you had signed up for a life of loneliness. Maybe if you had been born in one of the clans there would’ve been a marriage arranged for you at the cost of self-value as a woman. Even then, the thought of an arranged marriage more than always meant a loveless relationship, a transaction if you will. An heir for status.
With time you had accepted it. You kept relationships superficial, nothing more than a one-night stand or, if they were good enough, you kept them in your rooster of fuck buddies for whenever the stress of the job proved itself too big.
You didn’t want a relationship. You weren’t looking for love. You weren’t looking for your happy ending.
Not until Nanami.
He wasn’t around when you had transferred to Tokyo, the rumors of a fellow student’s death being the reason reaching your ears whenever you asked who Gojo always referred as Nanamin. He had left the sorcerers life to pursue a mundane life, just like your father had done.
After a mission that required at least two first grade sorcerers had put itself on top of the list, Gojo had reached out to him as the school had to face a lack of manpower, leaving you as the only one available. Reluctantly, Nanami had agreed to help.
Nanami and you got along the same way oil and water mix. The man was everything you weren’t: cold, composed, calculated and over all he needed to be in control. His presence felt like a gigantic iceberg surrounding you.
You, on the other hand, were everything that Nanami had grown to dislike. Your unpredictability, your hot temper, the rashness of your decisions along with your tendency to over share your thoughts. Nanami hated the fact that you always took him by surprise, yet it seemed like as a team, you both were gears of the same machine.
Neither could deny the abilities the other possessed, it wasn’t for anything that you both held the title of first grade sorcerers. However, neither of you would admit it, unwilling to give a compliment one to another.
That’s why, when Nanami decided to leave the mundane life he had worked for and came back to the dangerous world he left behind, the higherups decided to pair him off with you, much to his distaste.
It’s funny how life works. Pair two people that dislike each other for hours on end, two things are bound to happen. The dislike for each other would increase, its tentacles reaching the depts of your mind until pure, scolding hate would be the only thing you had in common.
Or, as it turned out with you, a spark of something would ignite.
After a particular taxing mission, Nanami had suggested resting up in a nearby motel. It’s reputation wasn’t to your liking, the love seats posted in every room warned you off of even laying down in the bed. But after spending days hunting down curses without much rest, you didn’t really care for it. You took your key, and you went to your room.
Of course that would be the time you couldn’t fall asleep, even with every muscle in your body aching for relief as they tried to relax. Your mind, on the other hand, couldn’t stop working, thought after thought racing through your brain as you closed your eyes.
You decided to take a walk, the silver flask you caried with you carefully placed inside the left pocket of your jacket. You hoped a nice walk in the middle of the night might pacify the demons that clouded your thoughts. What you weren’t expecting was to see a blond, tall man outside of his room, a cigarette between his fingers as he laid against the wall.
That night you learned Kento Nanami was capable of surprising you. The blush that settled across his face and the non so discreet way he tried to conceal the lit cigarette. If it were another day, perhaps you would’ve laughed. The oh so perfect Kento Nanami, so prideful on his own control on any situation and overall, his emotions, the one that had said his worst habit was overworking himself, who had scolded you instantly of your tendency to drink and smoke after a hard day of work.
Any other day you would’ve rubbed it in his face.
Instead, you walked to his side, taking out your flask as you unscrewed the cap. You took a long sip, the bitter taste of whiskey invading your taste buds. Kentos eyes followed your every move until you laid back against the same wall he was on. After a minute of silence and a couple of swings, you offered him the flask. Silently, he took it off your hands, replacing it with the cigarette he had been smoking of.
That night something changed between you. Perhaps the deep dislike had turned into camaraderie, the constant pressure that death held on both pushing you together. After all, who better to talk about the occupational hazards than the man that experienced them with you. Who could understand better the perpetual state of loneliness that came with the job?
You should’ve stopped it that night, cut it from the root.
Fight after fight, curse after curse, drink after drink a night came a long where everything came to surface.
You couldn’t remember what it was. Maybe it was the way his eyes traveled over your face as you ranted over the lack of freedom you had. Maybe it was the way his eyes had lighted up when you had asked him what his biggest wish was, a storm of thoughts clouding his expression. Maybe it was the way his shoulder bumped against you, his warmth extending past the darkness you carried where your heart should be.
You kissed him. Everything came to a stop around you and for the first time in a long time you felt what peace was.
He kissed you back and from that moment it was over.
Neither of you defined things, the words relationship and love were never spoken as in the Jujutsu world they were considered a jinx. So, for your surprise, both of you were able to just go with it. You slept together, you went out to places, you held hands as you walked down the street, you cuddled each other at night as he peppered kisses along your neck.
One night you had brought a duffle bag with a change of clothes and a toothbrush, that night Kento had surprised you once again.
“You should leave that here, it’s unnecessary to keep bringing back and forth if you stay here most of the nights.”
Almost a year after, he did it again.
“I have to go, I have to go resign my lease before the office closes.” You said as you gather your things.
A hand in the small of your back stopped you.
“You don’t have to resign it.”
His eyes shined with the glimmer of hope while the shadows of fear creeped up. You would never forget the small smile that plaster over his face when you said one word.
“Ok.”
For years you had each others back in the field. There was no curse that could stand a chance, not when all you could think about was what Nanami would cook for dinner that night.
For years you had known what pure happiness was.
Until Shibuya came.
Everything happened faster than you could process it. A special grade curse had shown up, swallowing all of you into its domain. A beach so beautiful it had almost made you forget how certain death was knocking on the door.
Naobito had lost his arms, a couple of your fingers had turned into chump and Nanamis eye had taken a hit. There was no escape, no hope other than a fifteen-year-old kid opening a small gateway that could save all of you.
Hit after hit, you kept fighting. You couldn’t understand the sudden doom that had fell on you as you clawed at the hope you could scape, not until a hit sent Nanami flying into a monsters mouth. A scream left your lungs, the anger vibrating along your body but most of all the fear. You had been close to death too many times to count and not one of those times had you ever been as scared as you were in that moment.
You wanted to stay alive.
You wanted Kento to stay alive.
You wanted a life with him.
A tear had ran down your cheek as you kept fighting.
Suddenly things had changed, a man had bursted through your gates of hope, annihilating the curse. The domain had broken, leaving you all in the train station the battle had started on. You were ready to fight the man with the dark eyes as he walked towards you, the deadly smirk he possessed chilling you to the bone as his eyes fell in each one of you.
You had barely any time to react as he pushed the Fushiguro kid through the window, himself disappearing along.
You ran to the window he had gone through, trying to catch on where Megumi had fallen but there wasn’t a trace of them behind. You had readied yourself to jump down, but a hand stopped you in your tracks.
Silence fell on you all, Naobito and Maki assessing their own wounds. Nanami’s eyes fell on your left hand as yours feel on his eye, blood cascading down his face. Your heart had crumbled as you reached out to touch him.
“Your eye” you whispered, the words choking on your throat as you tried to stop the tears.
His hand cupped yours, your body welcoming the familiar warmth he had you accustomed to.
“I’m ok” with care, as if you were a porcelain doll, he lifted your wounded hand. “Your fingers…”
“It’s ok” you assured him. “I didn’t like them anyways.”
Nanami chuckled.
“Even now you can’t stop trying to drive me crazy, can you?”
“As if you don’t love it.”
He paused, hesitation plaguing him.
“I do. I love everything about you.”
Your eyes prickled with tears as a happy smile extended over your lips.
“I love you too.”
Your blood had begun pooling underneath you, a few drops falling each second.
“After this, we should go to Malasyia.” He whispered.
“We should retire there.”
“Yeah, we should.”
You felt him before you heard him. A suffocating amount of cursed energy entering the room. It was a special grade, there was no doubt about it.
His speed was something out of this world, only compared to the man that has saved all your asses. He has placed himself in front of Nanami, his hand placed on his torso.
Your heart rose to your throat, the same desperation that had caught you in the other curses domain. Your hand has already began to form into a fist, ready to take on the hit Nanami was about to be struck with. Kento had been faster than you though.
One second, that was all it took for Nanami to react.
His hand pushed you out of the window, your body tensing as you lost your balance. You blinked as you tried to hold on to anything to prevent your fall but when you opened your eyes you saw it.
Fire. Deathly flames engulfing his body, starting from the place where the curse had placed its hand.
A curling scream burned through your throat, each millisecond passing slower than the last. Before the flames covered his face, you had seen the relief that filled his eyes.
The last thing you saw was his body falling to the floor, it’s echo barely reaching your ears as your body raced to the ground.
You had woken up hours later, Shoko’s face welcoming you back as you jumped on your feet. You were in a random alley in the outskirts of the dome, far away from where you had fell. You tried to make your way towards the middle of the city but a sharp pain on your side stopped you halfway through your attempt.
Shokos hands held onto you, trying to drag you back with her but your arms flayed, fighting with whatever energy you had left.
“There’s nothing you can do.” She said, eyes sadder than usual.
You shook your head, your mind and hear unable to listen to reason.
“You don’t understand. I have to– I can go and– I need to get to him.” You pleaded, the burning despair in your chest overwhelming your senses.
“You can’t help him.” She whispered. “He’s gone.”
Your mother had been right, love could only come with pain. It’s claws tearing apart the hopes and dreams you had foolishly allowed yourself to have.
Love came with pain, and as your heart bleed out in the streets of Shibuya you wondered whether you were strong enough to survive it.

Secret Santa
Word Count: 5615
Warnings: None
Headcanons: Inarizaki x Fem! Manager ︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
Day 1: The Name Exchange The excitement for Inarizaki’s first-ever Secret Santa was contagious as Y/N stood before the volleyball team, the Santa hat in her hands rustling with small slips of paper. She couldn’t help but smile at the eager looks and hushed anticipation around her as the team huddled closer, trying to catch a glimpse.
“Alright, listen up, everyone!” she called out, her voice cutting through the chatter. “Each of you has a name in here. Draw one, keep it a secret, and remember—two weeks until the big reveal! We’ll meet at my place the night before Christmas for the exchange.”
A few groans of playful protest mixed with laughter. Suna nudged Aran with a smirk, teasing him about what he might end up with. Atsumu made a big show of cracking his knuckles, promising he’d find the ultimate gift—“as long as I don’t get Osamu’s name,” he joked, earning a light shove from his twin.
Y/N went around with the hat, watching as the players reached in, each drawing their slip with a sense of mystery and excitement. There were chuckles, a few raised eyebrows, and Atsumu muttering dramatically, “Oh, the suspense!” as he held his slip close to his chest, causing the others to roll their eyes.
When Y/N drew her own name, her eyes lit up as she unfolded the paper. Aran! She’d always thought of him as a dependable friend, and she immediately wanted her gift to show how much she valued him. Her mind buzzed with ideas as she pictured his usual calm, steady smile, and the warmth he brought to the team. Maybe she could do something unexpected, something unique that would make him feel genuinely appreciated.
Kita, on the other hand, had approached the hat with his usual calm demeanor, but as he unfolded his slip and saw Y/N’s name, his heart skipped a beat. He rarely showed his emotions openly, yet the weight of choosing something that would resonate with her felt both daunting and exciting. As captain, he knew her value to the team better than anyone, her quiet dedication and the way she supported each player in her own way. He found himself already thinking of what might make her smile, what could show her how appreciated she truly was.
As the last names were drawn and the team dispersed, everyone left the gym with a bit of holiday spirit—and a bit of secret anticipation—in the air.
Day 2: Observing Clues
The second day after drawing names, Y/N was back in the familiar buzz of Inarizaki’s gym. The faint echo of sneakers squeaking against polished floors and the steady thud of volleyballs filled the air as the team warmed up. It was one of those crisp winter mornings where sunlight poured through the high windows, casting long, amber streaks across the gym floor. Y/N leaned against the wall, taking notes on her clipboard, glancing up periodically to watch the boys’ drills. Her gaze, however, kept drifting to Aran.
He was in the middle of stretching with Suna, the two exchanging banter over a missed shot from the last game. Y/N caught herself smiling, noticing how Aran’s laughter seemed to resonate warmly in the cool gym air. Then, as practice wrapped up and the team headed for water, she noticed the telltale sign—Aran reached for his headphones, that familiar gesture he did every day. His music routine. She watched as he carefully untangled the wires, placing one earbud in as he leaned back against the wall, eyes drifting closed, nodding subtly to whatever song he had queued up today.
Seizing the moment, Y/N approached him casually, making her way across the gym while dodging stray volleyballs. She leaned against the water cooler next to him, the sound of clinking ice and the hum of the vending machine filling the space. “Hey, Aran!” she called, trying to sound offhand. “Got any good songs lately?”
Aran cracked one eye open, pulling the earbud halfway out. “Oh, hey, Y/N,” he said, his grin easy and relaxed. “Just my usual stuff. You know, same ol’ songs on repeat. Keeps me grounded after a long practice.” He chuckled, clearly embarrassed about his routine, but Y/N could tell music was something he genuinely enjoyed.
She tilted her head thoughtfully, filing the detail away. “You should send me some recommendations sometime,” she teased lightly. “Gotta keep up with what everyone’s listening to, you know?”
Aran laughed, scratching the back of his neck. “Yeah, sure. I don’t know if it’s anything special, but I’ll send a few songs your way.”
Y/N left the interaction with a grin, her mind racing with ideas. A custom playlist and a quality portable speaker—that was it. Something personal but useful, a gift that would fit seamlessly into his life. She turned away to note her thoughts on her clipboard, nearly colliding with Kita, who was silently observing her as he collected water for himself.
He straightened up, his posture composed as always, but his gaze lingered on Y/N’s bag. It was the same bag she always carried: large, slightly battered, with straps that had seen better days. He noticed how she constantly adjusted it during practice, the way she shifted it to one shoulder as she darted between players to pass out towels, check equipment, and manage schedules.
Kita cleared his throat softly, catching her attention. “Y/N, your bag seems... well-used,” he remarked, voice calm but attentive.
She glanced down at the worn fabric, smiling fondly. “Yeah, it’s seen a lot, huh? But it’s my good luck charm. I feel like I can’t do my job without it,” she laughed, giving it a small pat.
Kita nodded thoughtfully, making a mental note. The bag, he realized, was more than just a tool for her; it was part of her rhythm as the team’s manager. If he found something similar—something just as sturdy and functional but with a touch of style—it might be the perfect way to show his appreciation. He allowed himself a small, determined smile, resolved to find a gift that would support Y/N as seamlessly as she supported them.
As the players returned to the court, Y/N and Kita both fell into the rhythm of practice, but both kept a quiet, secret excitement bubbling beneath the surface, each imagining how their gifts might surprise and delight their Secret Santas.
Day 6: Ideas Taking Shape
The gym was alive with the sound of sneakers squeaking against the polished court, the soft rhythm of volleyballs bouncing against the floor, and the occasional shout of encouragement from the players. Y/N stood near the bench, her clipboard tucked under her arm, keeping an eye on the practice while brainstorming her gift for Aran. The air smelled faintly of the gym’s polish and the chalky scent of the volleyball court.
She had been observing Aran more closely over the past few days, trying to get a better sense of what he might appreciate. As he hit a spike across the court, a slight grin pulling at the corners of his mouth, Y/N recalled a conversation from a week ago. Aran had been talking about his love for live concerts, especially the raw energy of the crowd and the unpredictability of those moments. He’d mentioned his favorite concerts, how he'd often play the recordings in his room, the sounds filling the space as if he were there, surrounded by that energy.
Her eyes sparkled with an idea, and she stepped aside, making a mental note. She could create a custom playlist for him, one with live versions of his favorite songs, capturing the essence of that experience. But she didn’t want to stop there. Y/N knew Aran well enough to understand that he appreciated quality, something that would reflect the effort she put into the gift. A high-quality portable speaker would be the perfect match for the playlist. She imagined him listening to the tracks, the sounds of the crowd flooding through the speaker as he relaxed after practice. It would be a gift that mixed both personal and practical, with a touch of thoughtfulness.
While Y/N was lost in her thoughts, the other players continued their practice, moving in and out of drills. She overheard a conversation between Sakusa and Atsumu, both arguing about which music genre was better for post-practice relaxation. Y/N chuckled to herself, but her mind remained focused on Aran’s gift. The idea was starting to take shape, and she couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction.
Across the gym, Kita was also absorbed in his own thoughts, though his gaze was fixed on Y/N. He watched her as she worked, effortlessly moving from player to player, offering gentle encouragement and the occasional correction. Her usual energy was contagious, but today, Kita noticed something else—her bag. It was slung over her shoulder, worn from years of use, its edges fraying just slightly. As Y/N moved through the gym, her movements fluid but with a slight struggle as she tried to reach for something inside her bag, Kita saw the small zipper snag.
It wasn’t just that the bag had seen better days—it was a symbol of how hard she worked to balance everything, always carrying the weight of her responsibilities. Kita’s thoughts immediately went to the idea he had been toying with since day one: getting her a new, high-quality bag. He wanted something that would be functional and reflect her commitment to the team, but also stylish enough to suit her personality. It had to be practical, yet show that he saw the effort she put in.
The following evening, after practice, Kita found himself wandering through a nearby shopping district. The streets were decorated with twinkling lights, adding to the holiday spirit that seemed to be everywhere. He passed by a small boutique that caught his eye. It was quaint, tucked between a couple of cafes, its windows filled with elegant bags. As he stepped inside, the warm air wrapped around him, and the scent of fresh coffee from a nearby café wafted through the door. The store was quiet, peaceful, and had a soft glow from the lights hanging overhead.
Kita moved through the aisles slowly, inspecting the bags with a focused eye. There was a part of him that wanted to find the perfect one immediately, but he knew it was worth taking his time. The bags ranged from minimalist designs to bold, functional ones. He picked one up, tested the weight, and inspected the stitching. He finally settled on a sleek, sturdy leather bag with multiple compartments—large enough to fit all of her essentials, yet compact and stylish. It was just right. The leather was soft, and the color would suit her perfectly—elegant, yet not too flashy. He couldn’t help but smile as he imagined how she might react when she saw it.
On his way out, Kita passed by a small coffee shop, the warmth from inside making him pause. He decided to grab a coffee, sitting by the window, watching the busy streets outside as he reflected on his decision. The holidays always brought out a bit of sentimentality in him, but this time, his thoughts were full of Y/N. He wanted this gift to be meaningful—not just a token, but something that would show how much he admired her.
Back at the gym, Y/N had already started discussing plans for the big exchange the night before Christmas. The players were still buzzing with excitement about the gifts they would give and receive. The gym, usually echoing with the sound of volleyballs and sneakers, was now filled with talk of Christmas cheer and gift ideas. Y/N had started to decorate the space with a few simple holiday touches—greenery by the door, a small tree with lights twinkling in the corner, and a basket of wrapped chocolates by the bench. Even in the hustle and bustle of practice, the holiday spirit was palpable, and everyone was feeling the magic of the season.
As the players continued their drills, the anticipation for the gift exchange built with every passing day. Y/N couldn’t wait to see everyone’s reactions, but there was something special about the idea of giving gifts that reflected how much she appreciated them. The warmth of the gym and the holiday spirit only made her more excited to bring everyone together for the big reveal.
And so, with the days slipping away, the team continued their practice, the sounds of volleyballs bouncing, sneakers skidding, and laughter filling the air. Christmas was coming, and with it, the promise of new memories, laughter, and unforgettable gifts that would bring the Inarizaki team even closer together.
Day 6: Gifts in the Making
After the final bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, Y/N found Suna Rintarō in his usual spot by his locker, unhurriedly gathering his things. Students were buzzing around them, but Suna remained as calm and composed as ever, barely glancing at the crowds. She approached him with a purpose, though aware that she might have to make a convincing case to get him to come along.
“Hey, Suna,” she greeted, offering a small smile as she sidled up to his locker. “You busy after this?”
He looked up, meeting her gaze with a hint of curiosity but his expression otherwise unreadable. “Not really,” he replied, zipping up his bag. “Why?”
She took a quick breath before diving in. “I need some help with Secret Santa shopping… specifically for Aran. You have an eye for good stuff, so I thought you’d be the perfect person to bring along.”
Suna’s brows lifted ever so slightly at her suggestion, and he gave a small nod. “Fine. But don’t expect much commentary,” he said, swinging his bag over his shoulder.
“Perfect! That’s all I need,” she grinned, motioning for him to follow her out.
As they walked through the bustling city streets, they exchanged small bits of conversation—mainly Y/N talking about how she wanted her gift for Aran to be thoughtful and practical. Suna listened quietly, chiming in every now and then with a hum or a short response, more interested in taking in the scene around them than actively engaging in chatter. When they finally arrived at the mall, the holiday decorations were in full force: wreaths, lights, and a massive Christmas tree in the center of the atrium that seemed to reach up to the ceiling.
Y/N marveled at the decorations, nudging Suna with her elbow. “You gotta admit, it’s festive,” she said, smirking as she looked at his typically neutral expression.
He shrugged, giving the slightest of smirks. “It’s a bit much. But I guess it works,” he replied, following her as she led the way toward the tech stores.
They wandered into the first store, where rows of sleek gadgets and electronics lined the shelves. Y/N browsed the portable speakers, occasionally glancing at Suna, who was studying the products with a calm and discerning eye. After a few minutes, he picked up a speaker with a simple yet sturdy design, turning it over in his hands.
“This one’s pretty solid,” he commented, passing it to her. “Good sound quality, decent battery life, and compact enough that he could carry it around easily.”
Y/N held the speaker, feeling its weight and inspecting it. “Do you think he’d actually use it?”
Suna leaned back against one of the displays, his gaze level as he watched her consider the options. “If he’s into music like you say, he’ll appreciate it. And you can personalize it—load up some live recordings of his favorite concerts or something.”
She blinked, a smile spreading across her face. “That’s actually a really good idea. I didn’t think of that.”
“Yeah, well,” Suna shrugged, glancing away as if downplaying his own suggestion. “That’s why you brought me along.”
After comparing a few more options, she settled on the speaker he’d suggested, finally feeling confident in her choice. As they made their way to the checkout counter, Suna waited quietly beside her, occasionally glancing around the store. A small group of teenagers passed by, their arms full of holiday shopping bags, laughing and chatting. Suna looked on with mild interest before returning his focus to Y/N as she paid for the speaker.
As they stepped out of the store, they walked by a kiosk packed with holiday-themed wrapping paper, bows, and tags. Y/N paused, staring at the selection, her expression contemplative.
Suna noticed her hesitating and smirked. “This part’s on you. I’m here for the gift, not to play decorator.”
She laughed, nudging him lightly. “Noted. I’ll take it from here.”
Suna waited as she picked out a tasteful roll of wrapping paper with muted colors, steering away from the overly bright designs that didn’t quite suit her style. After paying, she held up her bag, feeling accomplished.
“Mission accomplished,” she said with a grin.
Suna gave her a short nod of approval as they made their way back through the bustling mall. The holiday energy buzzed around them, but there was a calm ease between the two of them as they headed out into the chilly evening, each silently content with how the day had unfolded.
Day 12: Putting It All Together
On Saturday morning, Kita headed out to town, intent on wrapping up the final details for his Secret Santa gift. He wanted to make sure the bag he chose for Y/N was perfect, and the added charm with her initials was a small but meaningful detail he hoped she’d appreciate. He found himself moving with careful purpose, his usual calm masking his excitement to see this gift idea come to life.
After visiting a boutique to confirm the bag’s quality, he stopped by a nearby shop to search for a keychain. As he browsed, he saw someone familiar in his peripheral vision—Y/N, standing in front of a colorful display. She was looking at a pair of vibrant roller skates with teal and yellow accents, her gaze fixed on them as if they held a world of memories. Smiling to himself, he walked over.
As Kita approached, he noticed Y/N’s attention was completely absorbed by the pair of roller skates on display. A small smile formed on his face as he stepped forward, intending to strike up a casual conversation.
“Didn’t know you were a skater,” he said, keeping his tone light.
She glanced over, clearly surprised but managing a smile. “Yeah… well, I used to be, I guess,” she replied, not offering more right away. Her eyes shifted back to the skates as if the memory behind them was something only for her.
Kita took a slow breath, recognizing her hesitance. Y/N was always open and friendly with the team, but rarely did she talk much about herself. He chose his words carefully. “Were you any good at it?”
Y/N’s smile grew a little wider as she laughed softly. “Maybe not at first. But I spent enough time on those skates that I got pretty good.” She paused, as if deciding whether to continue. “I used to skate down to the park on weekends. It was my thing.”
He nodded, giving her a moment. “Sounds like you had a good routine,” he said, understanding how much routines mattered in his own life.
She seemed to relax a little, glancing over at him. “Yeah, I did. I really loved it. But my old skates broke a while back, and I… just never got around to replacing them. Guess I figured I didn’t have the time.”
Kita took that in thoughtfully. “It’s tough to make time when there’s so much else going on. But it sounds like it mattered to you.” He didn’t push further, but his steady gaze invited her to continue if she wanted to.
She hesitated, then nodded, her expression softening. “Yeah. These days, though, it just seems like… too much to spend on something that’s just for fun, you know? Especially when I could put that money toward something more practical.” She shrugged, clearly uncomfortable discussing it. “I’d feel selfish asking my parents for something like this.”
Kita listened carefully, piecing together her reasons without judging them. Her dedication to the team and her responsibilities was something he respected immensely, but he couldn’t help but think she deserved something just for herself.
“They look like they’d suit you,” he said gently, looking at the skates. “You deserve things that bring you happiness, too.” He gave her a small smile, understanding it was a sensitive topic. “And if you ever want to get back into skating, I bet you’d pick it up again just like that.”
Y/N chuckled, the wistfulness in her expression easing. “Thanks, Kita. Maybe one day,” she replied, a hint of warmth in her voice.
The conversation lingered with him as they parted ways, and an idea started to form in his mind. He’d originally planned to keep things simple, but seeing Y/N’s reaction to those skates gave him a different perspective on what his gift could mean. For now, though, he kept the thought to himself, leaving her with a subtle but encouraging smile before they each went on their way.
Christmas Eve: The Gift Exchange
The morning was filled with bustling energy as Y/N’s family worked together to turn their home into a holiday haven. It was the day before Christmas, and despite the excitement of the neighborhood Christmas party, Y/N was focused on one thing: making sure the house was perfect for the special Secret Santa event with the boys. The living room needed to be transformed into a cozy, welcoming space for everyone to gather, and there was no time to waste.
Y/N’s mom was the first to start rearranging the furniture, moving the coffee table to one side of the room with a sense of practiced ease. "Let’s clear some space for all the gifts," she said, giving Y/N a warm smile. Her dad followed suit, slowly shifting the couch to create a better flow in the room. Y/N eagerly joined them, her excitement spilling over as she adjusted the throw pillows on the couch and added little touches of decoration. The Christmas tree stood proudly in the corner, draped with twinkling lights and vintage ornaments, but it needed a little more magic.
"We should add a few more candles to the mantle," Y/N suggested as she busied herself placing candles along the fireplace. The soft glow of the lights would create the perfect ambiance for the evening.
Her mom glanced over at her with a smile. "I love how much you’ve taken on this year. It feels like a real winter wonderland."
Y/N’s dad, who was busy hanging garlands above the windows, chimed in with a chuckle. "Your mom’s right, honey. This place is starting to look like something out of a Christmas movie." He paused for a moment, looking around the room with satisfaction. "You really went all out this year. The boys will love it."
Y/N couldn’t help but beam at their words, feeling a warmth in her chest. Despite all the holiday chaos, the effort was worth it. "I want tonight to be perfect. I want them to feel at home."
As her parents finished the final touches on the house, Y/N stood back and surveyed the room, feeling accomplished. The room was cozy with soft, plush blankets scattered across the couches, and the flickering lights set a serene, holiday atmosphere. A table had been cleared in the center, ready for all the gifts to be placed on it. There was a small area by the window where they would later enjoy snacks and drinks, but for now, the focus was on getting everything ready for the boys.
Her dad stepped back and gave Y/N a nod of approval. "I think it’s all ready. Let’s get those gifts out."
Y/N's mom smiled, heading to the kitchen to start preparing snacks and drinks for the evening. "Don’t forget to get those cookies out! We need something sweet for them."
"I’ll grab them," Y/N offered, bounding off to the kitchen. She retrieved the freshly baked sugar cookies her mom had made earlier, carrying the tray with a sense of pride. The warm, sweet smell filled the house, adding to the festive air.
As she returned to the living room, the first of the boys began arriving, and with their entrance, the room began to feel even more alive. Aran was the first to step through the door, carrying a bag of chips and a wrapped gift. "It smells amazing in here," he said, grinning as he surveyed the space. "You really did a great job, Y/N."
"Thanks, Aran!" she replied, her voice practically bubbling over with happiness. "I wanted to make sure tonight felt special for everyone."
With Aran came the other boys—Suna, carrying a box of homemade cookies, a small smile playing on his lips; Kita, with his usual calm demeanor, bringing a neatly wrapped gift and a quiet nod of approval; and Atsumu, always the life of the party, carrying a large bag filled with snacks and a grin that could light up the room.
"Did I bring enough snacks?" Atsumu asked loudly, dropping the bag on the table with a dramatic flair. "Because I could always grab more!"
Y/N laughed, her heart swelling at the sight of her friends. "You’re always over-prepared, Atsumu."
Her parents, who were now finished with their preparations, stepped into the living room to greet the boys. Y/N’s dad shook hands with each of them, offering a friendly smile. "It’s nice to see you all here," he said warmly. "Y/N’s been looking forward to this night for weeks."
Y/N’s mom followed with a gentle, welcoming smile. "I’m so glad you could join us. This is such a special time for Y/N, and we’re glad to have you all here."
The boys all murmured their thanks, the warmth in the room only growing stronger. Y/N’s heart fluttered with happiness—everything was coming together just as she had hoped.
"I’m so glad we’re all here," Y/N said as she bounced excitedly from one guest to the next. "This is going to be the best night!"
With everyone settling in, her parents busied themselves by gathering their coats and preparing to leave for the neighborhood Christmas party. "We’re heading over to the neighbors’ party in a bit," Y/N’s mom said, giving her a soft, knowing smile. "You’re welcome to join us, of course."
Y/N shook her head, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I’m good, Mom. I want to stay here and enjoy tonight with everyone. This is my special event."
Her dad chuckled, ruffling her hair affectionately. "Alright, but don’t forget to take a few pictures for us before we go."
Y/N nodded enthusiastically. "I will! I promise!"
As her parents made their way to the door, Y/N handed them her camera. "Don’t forget to take some shots of you both at the party!" she added with a grin.
After her parents left, the atmosphere in the room shifted from the calm of her family’s presence to the lively chatter of her friends. The energy in the room felt light and happy, everyone eager to start the gift exchange.
When it was finally time to exchange gifts, the living room was buzzing with excitement. Laughter filled the air as each person carefully selected a gift to give.
Christmas lights twinkling softly against the walls as each person gave their present with care and excitement. Y/N felt a sense of joy watching everyone unwrap their gifts—each person’s reaction was more than she had hoped for. When it was Aran’s turn, he immediately began to unwrap his gift. Y/N had been nervously waiting for his reaction, hoping he would like it as much as she had thought he would. As the paper fell away, he held up the portable speaker she had carefully picked out for him. The soft, golden light from the fireplace illuminated the device in his hands, and for a moment, everything seemed to pause.
Aran’s face lit up with an easy grin, his eyes sparkling with delight. “You really know me, huh?” he chuckled, holding up the speaker for everyone to see. “This is perfect, Y/N. Thank you.”
Y/N couldn’t help the huge smile that spread across her face. "I'm so glad you like it!" Her heart soared at his response, a deep sense of happiness filling her chest. It felt incredible to see him genuinely pleased, especially since Aran was always so laid back and hard to surprise.
Finally, it was Y/N’s turn to open her gift, and the room grew quieter in anticipation. She smiled nervously, feeling the weight of Kita’s gift in her hands. Kita, ever composed, had remained calm, not giving away anything about his present. As she slowly began to unwrap it, the atmosphere shifted, the warmth of the room giving her a sense of comfort as she carefully peeled away the paper.
When the wrapping came off, her breath caught in her throat. Inside was a beautiful pair of roller skates—bright, sleek, and exactly the pair she had been eyeing for months. Her heart pounded in her chest, the surprise overwhelming her.
Her voice barely came out as she looked at Kita, her hands shaking slightly as she held up the skates. “Kita… you remembered…?”
Kita’s usual calm smile was present, but there was something in his eyes—something softer—that made Y/N’s chest tighten with emotion. “You’ve mentioned it a few times,” he said simply, his voice steady but kind. “I thought you deserved them.”
Tears pricked at the corners of Y/N’s eyes. The roller skates were a dream she thought she’d have to give up, especially after her old ones broke so suddenly. She hadn’t been able to replace them, too caught up in work and life to find the time or money. But now, here they were, right in front of her, a gift from someone who had truly listened.
“I don’t know what to say,” Y/N whispered, her voice thick with emotion. “Thank you… really.”
She could feel the warmth of the room around her—the glow of the Christmas lights, the laughter of her friends, the love that filled the air. And in that moment, she realized that it wasn’t just about the gifts. It was about the thoughtfulness behind them, the way each of them had made an effort to show how much they cared.
Kita, already back to his usual calm demeanor, stood up and gestured for everyone to gather. Y/N's eyes widened in confusion as the boys—Aran, Suna, and even Atsumu—moved toward her. Though they hadn’t been planning a joint gift, the boys had secretly coordinated. Y/N hadn’t realized, but they had been discussing her for days leading up to this moment, deciding as a group that they wanted to show her just how much they appreciated everything she did for them, and how much they admired her strength, kindness, and dedication.
As Aran reached into a large gift bag, he pulled out a framed photo, and Y/N’s breath caught in her throat. It was a picture of all the boys together, their goofy grins and relaxed poses showing off the bond they had built over time. The photo was perfectly framed, the black frame elegant yet simple, and a small, personalized note attached. Y/N’s hands shook slightly as she read the words:
“Thank you for everything you do. We’re better because of you.”
Her heart swelled, and she blinked rapidly, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to spill once more. She had never expected this. The boys, though each of them a character in their own right, had come together with such thoughtfulness and unity. The sincerity in their gesture left her speechless.
Suna stepped forward next, giving her a small but meaningful smile. "We might not always say it," he began, his usually quiet voice softening the mood, "but we’re all really grateful for you, Y/N. For everything you do. It doesn't go unnoticed."
Atsumu, always the energetic one, added, “Yeah, we know you’ve got a lot on your plate, but you still manage to keep everything together. We’re better off with you around.”
Y/N’s heart felt like it was overflowing. She had never expected such an outpouring of appreciation from them, and yet here they were, showing her just how much she meant to them. Her eyes welled up with emotion as she finally managed to speak, her voice a bit shaky.
“You guys… I don’t even know what to say to this,” she whispered, overwhelmed by their kindness. “This means so much to me. You guys really… you really do care.”
Kita, who had remained relatively quiet, gave her a small nod. "Of course we do. You’re family, Y/N."
The room fell into a comfortable silence, save for the soft crackling of the fire and the gentle hum of the Christmas music in the background.
With a happy sigh, Y/N finally said, “Thank you, all of you. I really… I don’t deserve this, but it’s the best gift I could ever ask for.” The boys, each in their own way, smiled back at her, their eyes full of affection.

Jealousy Looks Good on You - Alex Cabot
The bustling precinct was a contrast to the quiet of Alex Cabot’s office. She stood in the doorway, folders tucked under her arm, her blue eyes scanning the room for you. She’d been working alongside you for months now, a partnership born out of a shared desire to protect victims of abuse. Though you were new to the force, your empathy and unwavering dedication had impressed Alex from the start.
What she didn’t anticipate was how much you would begin to impress her beyond just work.
You were leaning against your desk, listening as your partner, Detective Morales, recalled some ridiculous stories from high school. You laughed, and Alex couldn’t help but smile softly at the sound, though she quickly schooled her expression when you noticed her presence.
“Cabot,” you greeted with a polite nod, standing straighter. “What brings you here?”
“Follow-up on the Hayes case,” Alex replied, her voice cool and professional. She handed you the file, her fingers brushing yours briefly. “I thought you might want to review it before court tomorrow.”
“Thanks,” you said, opening the folder and glancing at the pages.
For a moment, Alex hesitated, lingering by your desk. She wanted to say something, anything, but the words wouldn’t come. Instead, she offered a small smile and turned to leave, her heels clicking on the linoleum floor.
You didn’t think much of it. Why would you? Alex Cabot was stunning, brilliant, and, as far as you could tell, totally straight. Sure, you admired her, maybe a little too much for your own good, but you knew better than to mix work and feelings.
Still, it stung a little when she barely seemed to notice you outside of work.
That’s why, when your friend set you up on a date with a woman she swore was your type, you figured you’d give it a shot. There was no point pining over Alex when nothing could ever come of it.
Alex didn’t mean to overhear. Truly, she didn’t. But as she stood outside the Captain’s office, waiting to discuss a case, she couldn’t help but catch snippets of your conversation with Morales.
“…so, who’s the lucky lady?” Morales teased.
“Just someone my friend knows,” you said, your voice tinged with nervous excitement. “We’re getting drinks tonight.”
“First date, huh? You nervous?”
“A little,” you admitted with a chuckle. “She seems nice, though.”
Alex’s heart sank. She didn’t even realize she’d been gripping the file in her hand until her knuckles turned white.
You were going on a date.
With a woman.
Suddenly, the air felt thinner, her mind racing with thoughts she’d never allowed herself to fully acknowledge. She’d always told herself she valued your partnership, admired your dedication. But now, the thought of you being with someone else left her feeling like the ground was shifting beneath her feet.
When you returned to your desk that afternoon, Alex was already waiting for you. Her usual composed demeanor was replaced with something you couldn’t quite place, nervousness, maybe?
“Alex,” you said, surprised. “Hey. What’s up?”
“Can we talk?” she asked, her voice quieter than usual.
“Uh, sure.” You motioned toward the break room, and she followed you inside. The space was empty, save for the faint hum of the vending machines.
“What’s going on?” you asked, leaning against the counter.
Alex hesitated, her gaze dropping to the floor before meeting yours. For a moment, she seemed to struggle with her words.
“I heard you’re going on a date tonight,” she said finally.
You tilted your head, amused by her sudden awkwardness. “I am. Why?”
Alex drew in a sharp breath, her normally steady voice faltering. “Y/N, I care about you. More than I should. And hearing about your date, it made me realize I can’t keep this to myself anymore.”
You blinked, caught off guard. “You care about me?”
“Yes,” she said, stepping closer. Her blue eyes searched yours, filled with a mixture of nerves and sincerity. “I care about you as more than a colleague or a friend. I thought I could ignore it, but I can’t.”
You let the words hang in the air for a moment, a slow smile spreading across your face.
“Wow,” you said, crossing your arms. “The Alex Cabot, jealous of my date. Never thought I’d see the day.”
Alex blinked, flustered. “I’m not… jealous isn’t the point…”
“It kind of sounds like you’re jealous. It looks good on you, though.” you teased, leaning against the counter. “Should I cancel my date, or are you just here to give me your blessing?”
“Y/N,” Alex said, her voice firm but tinged with embarrassment. “This isn’t easy for me. I’m trying to tell you that I want to be the one you go on dates with.”
You couldn’t help but grin at her earnestness. “So, what you’re saying is that you like me?”
“Yes,” Alex admitted, her lips twitching into a small smile despite herself. “I like you.”
“Well, that’s good to know,” you said, stepping closer until you were barely a breath apart. “Because I’ve liked you for months.”
Alex’s eyes widened. “You have?”
You nodded. “I didn’t think I had a chance. And I figured you were too busy being brilliant and straight to notice anyway.”
Alex let out a short laugh, shaking her head. “I guess I wasn’t as straight as I thought.”
Your grin widened. “Glad you figured that out before I went on my date.”
“I am, too,” Alex said softly, her voice dropping. “So, about that, are you canceling it?”
You pretended to think about it for a moment before giving her a teasing smile. “I don’t know. Convince me.”
Alex rolled her eyes, but there was warmth in her gaze as she leaned in, her lips brushing yours in a soft kiss. The teasing comment you were about to make dissolved as you melted into her touch.
When she pulled back, her cheeks were faintly pink, but her smile was confident.
“Cancelling?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Definitely,” you said, grinning. “But maybe you should kiss me again, just so I can be sure I’m making the right decision.”
Alex laughed, the tension in her shoulders finally easing as she closed the distance once more.

apologies if this has been asked/answered/referenced somewhere i haven't seen but where did the title for 'oh god, you're gonna get it (you have not been given love)' come from??? every time i see/read it i feel like i've read something inherently profound. if you came up with it you're even more of a poet and a genius than reading the fic had led me to believe - which was a lot lol (seriously it's so good, literally how???????????????????? i feel like this title is haunting me and the fic has definitely caused some level of brain rot)
THANK YOU FOR SAYING IT GAVE YOU BRAIN ROT. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO FLATTERED.
The closest I have come to talking bout the title is here but at that point the title was still redacted on my posts so I'd say that barely counts!
So this is going to be long. Do try to bear with me, I've done my best.
The title is pieced together from two different song lyrics, but I think I did an excellent job in both picking a title that echoes the themes AND in smushing it together to make something new.
Oh god you're gonna get it is from Florence + The Machine's 'Girls Against God', which is one of those songs that came on when I was deep in the blorbo feels and they imprinted on the song so now that song just is a Roy Kent song to me, with many parts of it speaking to the vibe I wanted to bring into this fic. The quiet helplessness, the barely restrained incandescent rage -- all set against tragic, mundane life.
What I love most about this part of the title is that it's so loaded with meaning. Because 'oh god you're gonna get it' can read as 'oh god, you will understand'. Is it reassurance? Is it telling someone that it's okay if you're confused and lost now, because in the future they will understand?
Is it foreshadowing? Is it a warning? 'Oh enjoy you're obliviousness and confusion now, because one day it will make sense and you will understand. Oh god, will you ever understand.'
Then we have the part of the song that contains the title:
Oh God, you're gonna get it You'll be sorry that you messed with us
And here it becomes a threat of violence, and echo of rage acting against outside forces.
So that's part 1 of the title.
The nested part of the title, the part in parenthesis, is 'you have not been given love' by A Balladeer. Now, this song is more vibes than lyrics, though it does have some echoing ideas towards Jamie regarding generational trauma. That mixed with the lamenting tonality with which it's sung made this one really stick out.
Well, that and the fact that the title is repeated no less than sixteen fucking times. You can see why it was stuck in my head, yes?
Again, though, the lyric when taken at face-value feels loaded with meaning. On the one hand, it's someone recognizing, 'oh, I understand now. there have been circumstances in your life that have brought you to were you are now, and how you are able to perceive love has been directly affected by how you have not received it before.' But then it's also saying 'hey, those things you lived through, those things that other people gave you. those weren't love. you know that right?' And finally it's an understanding about someone, 'oh, you are an unfed thing. you do not know what love is, because you have never been given it'
Even if you take each part of the song piecemeal, with each section representing a different character, you end up with a fascinating tension. But if we combine the two we get this reverberation between the getting and the given. 'You will get', and nested with it 'you have not been given'. You will get your understanding (that you have not been given love). Oh god you will understand (that you are an unloved thing). You will make them pay (for they did not give you love). And most importantly
Oh god you're gonna to get (the love you were not given)
#I hope this makes sense#thank you so much for your wonderful message - I quite literally thought about it all day#and I'm glad you've enjoyed my one very very long chapter so far!#fic: oh god you're gonna get it (you have not been given love)#ask box is always open#fic testimonials

Comparison with Other Products:
When comparing the N70 with other mixed denomination money counters, several factors come into play:
Counterfeit Detection Technology: Many competing machines also offer UV, MG, and IR detection. The N70's inclusion of MT detection provides an additional layer of security, which might not be standard on all models. Some high-end counters also incorporate CIS (Contact Image Sensor) technology for more detailed bill scanning and serial number recognition.
Counting Speed: The N70's speed of up to 1,200 bills per minute is competitive with many machines in its class. Some industrial-grade counters might offer even higher speeds.
Display and User Interface: The 3.5" TFT display is a common feature, offering better visual clarity than older LED displays. The inclusion of multiple displays on some N70 models can be a unique advantage for certain setups. Touchscreen interfaces are also found on some competing models, offering a more modern user experience.
Currency Support: The number of supported currencies varies among machines. If your business deals with a wide range of international currencies beyond the N70's standard offerings, you might need to look for a more specialized multi-currency counter.
Printer Integration: While some counters are printer-enabled, the type of printer and ease of integration can differ. Some machines have built-in printers, while others, like the N70, might require an external printer.
Software and Connectivity: Advanced models might offer PC connectivity for data export and analysis, which could be a crucial feature for businesses requiring detailed cash flow management. The N70 offers the option to upload count data via a serial cable in some versions.
Price: Mixed denomination counters generally cost more than single denomination counters. The N70's price point will depend on its specific features and the vendor. It's essential to compare prices and features across different brands and models to find the best value for your business needs.

Conclusion:
The N70 Mixed Denomination Money Counter Machine appears to be a capable and efficient tool for businesses that handle moderate to large volumes of cash with mixed denominations. Its key strengths lie in its mixed denomination counting capability, robust counterfeit detection, and user-friendly interface. The printer-enabled feature is a significant advantage for record-keeping.
However, potential buyers should be aware of its limitations with damaged bills and the need to sort bills to some extent for optimal performance. Comparing the specific features and price of the N70 with other mixed denomination counters in the market will help determine if it's the best fit for your business requirements. If your business prioritizes strong counterfeit detection and efficient mixed bill processing, the N70 is a strong contender.

PR ROI Demystified: Key Metrics and Best Practices

When you sit down to evaluate the success of your latest press release or that big influencer outreach you orchestrated, odds are you’re asking yourself one question: did it pay off? Of course, “pay off” can mean a dozen different things in public relations. Is it about buzz? Brand love? A bump in website visits? Or — dare I say — tangible revenue? Measuring the ROI (return on investment) of your PR campaign can sometimes feel like trying to catch smoke with a butterfly net: slippery, shifting, and occasionally downright maddening.
But, believe it or not, there are concrete metrics that matter, formulas you can trust, and even a secret weapon (more on that later) to simplify your life: PR Agency Review, the go-to hub for comparing the best PR firms, globally.
Why ROI in PR Feels Elusive
There’s a paradox at the heart of PR: you’re selling stories, impressions, relationships — things that don’t come with neat dollar signs stamped on them. Unlike a paid ad where you know cost per click and exact budget, PR is about influence. And influence is…well, a bit squishier.
Yet, when your boss asks, “Show me the numbers,” you need more than a shrug. You need a playbook.
Intangibles vs. Tangibles
Intangibles: brand reputation, executive credibility, media goodwill.
Tangibles: website visits, leads generated, social shares, actual sales.
It’s tempting to lean on the feel-good stuff — look at all these positive articles! — but your CFO won’t be impressed unless you can tie those headlines to something measurable.
Defining Your Objectives (And Sticking to Them)
Before you even pitch a single journalist, pinpoint what “success” looks like. You might have multiple goals — and you probably will — but prioritize ruthlessly.
Awareness: More people hear your brand name.
Engagement: People talk about you on social media or your blog.
Consideration: Prospective customers weigh you against competitors.
Conversion: They fill out a form, download a white paper, buy your product.
Fun fact: I once worked on a campaign where we chased awareness — then, mid-flight, the client decided they wanted conversions. Cue a scramble that could have been avoided with a simple upfront conversation. Lesson learned: write down your goals, share them, and get buy-in from every stakeholder.
The Core Metrics That Matter
1. Media Mentions and Impressions
What it is: Count of articles, blog posts, and broadcast segments mentioning your brand.
Why it matters: Visibility is the first step. Without being seen, nothing else happens.
How to track: Media monitoring tools (Meltwater, Cision, or your trusty spreadsheet).
But here’s a twist: not all mentions are created equal. A fleeting citation in a trade newsletter isn’t the same as a front-page feature in The Wall Street Journal. Weight your mentions by outlet prestige, audience size, or relevance. You could assign a simple 1–5 score, or go hardcore with Media Impact Value (MIV).
2. Share of Voice (SOV)
What it is: Your brand’s proportion of total industry mentions.
Why it matters: Shows how you stack up against competitors.
How to calculate:
Share of Voice=Your mentions Total mentions in industry×100% \text{Share of Voice} = \frac{\text{Your mentions}}{\text{Total mentions in industry}} \times 100\%Share of Voice=Total mentions in industry Your mentions×100%
I have to admit — calculating SOV felt a bit like being back in high-school math. But, once you see you’re grabbing 30% of the conversation while competitors hover at 10%, it hits home.
3. Sentiment Analysis
What it is: Gauging whether coverage is positive, negative, or neutral.
Why it matters: A thousand mentions won’t help if they’re all basically “Brand X ate my lunch, and it wasn’t even good.”
How to track: Automated tools (e.g., Brandwatch) plus manual spot-checks for nuance.
A quick caveat: machines aren’t perfect. They’ll miss sarcasm, subtleties, or cultural context. So mix tech with a human eye.
4. Website Traffic and Referral Sources
What it is: Visitors coming to your site from media placements.
Why it matters: Direct link between PR and people actually checking you out.
How to track: Google Analytics (under Acquisition > Referrals).
Pro tip: Use UTM parameters in your press releases and online placements to see exactly which article drove traffic — and how those visitors behaved.
5. Social Engagement
What it is: Likes, shares, comments, retweets relating to your PR content.
Why it matters: Indicates how much people actually care (or don’t).
How to track: Native analytics on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok.
You might notice: social engagement often outperforms website clicks. It’s easier to tap a heart than to fill out a form. That’s okay. Engagement is a valid metric just don’t pretend it’s the same as conversions.
6. Lead Generation and Conversions

What it is: Number of new leads or sales directly linked to PR activities.
Why it matters: Shows the end-game: revenue.
How to track: CRM integration (Salesforce, HubSpot). Tag leads by source.
Picture this: you land a feature in Forbes, include a link to an e-book, and four readers download it and eventually buy. That’s your PR ROI, pure and simple.
7. Advertising Value Equivalent (AVE)
What it is: Assigns a dollar value to earned media as if it were paid advertising.
Why it’s controversial: Some swear by it. Others call it “the AVE illusion.”
How to calculate:
AVE=Advertising rate per column inch×Number of column inches \text{AVE} = \text{Advertising rate per column inch} \times \text{Number of column inches}AVE=Advertising rate per column inch×Number of column inches
Then add reach multipliers.
I’ll be honest: AVE can feel a bit made up. But it’s a conversation starter — especially with stakeholders who still think PR = free ads.
Bringing It All Together: Calculating ROI
At its simplest, ROI is:
ROI=Net Gain from PR Cost of PR×100% \text{ROI} = \frac{\text{Net Gain from PR}}{\text{Cost of PR}} \times 100\%ROI=Cost of PRNet Gain from PR×100%
Net Gain from PR: Revenue attributable to PR minus baseline revenue
Cost of PR: Agency fees, internal salaries, tool subscriptions, event costs
Real World isn’t that clean. You might not know exactly how much revenue came only from PR. That’s why you establish a baseline (what you normally earn without new PR) and compare.
Example:
Baseline monthly revenue: $100,000
Month after PR launch: $120,000
Incremental revenue: $20,000
Total PR costs: $5,000
ROI: (20,000−5,000)/5,000(20,000–5,000) / 5,000(20,000−5,000)/5,000 × 100% = 300%
Not too shabby, right?
The Human Side: Qualitative Metrics You Can’t Ignore

Numbers are great. But some of the richest insights come from…people. Yes, really.
Executive and Stakeholder Feedback — What do your leadership team think? Did CEO feel more confident on earnings calls?
Media Relationship Strength — Are journalists pitching you now? That’s worth its weight in gold.
Employee Sentiment — When PR pieces land, do your teams feel proud? Do they amplify your messaging internally?
Audience Surveys and Polls — Ask customers how they heard about you. Simple, but powerful.
A former colleague used to say, “If nobody calls to complain, you’re doing fine.” Slight exaggeration, but you get the point: trust your ears and your gut.
Benchmarking and Continuous Improvement
Your first PR ROI report will feel like crossing a finish line. It’s exhilarating — and terrifying. But PR, like everything else, is iterative.
Benchmark against past campaigns. Did you improve?
Benchmark against industry standards. Sites like PR AgencyReview let you compare metrics, budgets, and outcomes across firms, industries, even geographies.
Adjust your strategy. If social engagement is through the roof but conversions lag, tweak your CTAs or follow up with email campaigns.
Personally, I’ve found that sitting down quarterly with a simple dashboard (even if it’s a Google Sheet) can spark insights faster than any fancy tool. But hey, fancy tools have their place, too — especially when you’re scaling.
Why PR Agency Review Is Your Secret Weapon
Okay, you saw that coming. Consider me an editor and a fan: PR Agency Review is my top recommendation for anyone who wants a side-by-side look at the world’s leading PR firms.
What Makes It Stand Out?
Comprehensive Comparisons — Costs, specializations, recent campaigns — laid out in a clean grid.
Real-User Reviews — No fluff. Honest pros and cons from companies just like yours.
Global Coverage — Whether you need a boutique agency in Lagos or a mega-firm in New York, you’ll find them.
Searchable Filters — Budget range, industry focus, team size, awards won — you name it.
Regular Updates — This isn’t a dusty directory. It evolves as agencies launch new services and win new accolades.
Picture this: you have a $10,000 monthly PR budget but no idea which firm will give you the best bang. You log into PR Agency Review, filter by budget and market (let’s say “Technology” and “West Africa” — yes, they’ve got that), and boom: three agencies, each with ratings, recent case studies, even sample pitches. You can even contact them directly through the platform. No more endless Google searches or blind calls.
How to Use It in Your ROI Calculations
Cost Benchmarking: See average fees for firms handling campaigns your size.
Performance Benchmarking: Compare your own media impressions and coverage quality against agencies’ claimed results.
Agency Selection: Pick a partner whose strengths align with your KPI priorities (e.g., influencer outreach, crisis management, thought leadership).
I’ll confess: I checked PR Agency Review just last week when advising a fintech startup client. We narrowed it down from eight contenders to two, based solely on the reviews and side-by-side feature list. Saved us — what? — five hours of Google deep-dives. Time is money, people.
Pitfalls to Avoid
Chasing Vanity Metrics — High article count with zero engagement? Red flag.
Over-reliance on Automation — Sentiment tools misread sarcasm, bots inflate impressions. Mix tech with human judgment.
Ignoring the Long Game — PR compounds over time. A single report won’t capture the full impact of brand reputation.
Under-investing in Follow-Up — A press mention is only the start. Repurpose content, share on social, integrate into email marketing.
I once saw a stellar feature in a major magazine get zero follow-up — no social posts, no email blasts. Felt like watching a cake go stale on the counter.
Bringing It Home: Your Action Plan

Set Clear Objectives: Write them down. Get buy-in.
Choose the Right Metrics: Mix quantitative and qualitative.
Establish Baselines: Know where you started.
Track Continuously: Weekly, monthly, quarterly — depending on campaign length.
Leverage PR AgencyReview: For selecting agencies, benchmarking costs, and comparing performance.
Iterate: Tweak and repeat. PR isnt “set it and forget it.”
And yes, this sounds like a lot. But remember: measuring ROI isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress. Every data point you collect makes your next campaign smarter, sharper, and more likely to deliver results you can point to — results that make you look like the PR genius you are.
A Final, Slightly Contradictory Thought
I’ll leave you with this: numbers are your friend, but don’t let them bully you. Sometimes the best piece of PR is the one that makes your CEO beam — no immediate clicks, no tracking link, just pure, unadulterated brand pride. That matters, too. The trick is balancing the measurable with the meaningful.
So go ahead — dive into those analytics dashboards. Scrub your media lists. And when you’re ready for a partner that can help you scale, head over to PR Agency Review and see which firm fits your vision (and your budget).
After all, ROI isn’t just about returns; it’s about investment in relationships, reputation, and the stories that only good PR can tell. And hey, that’s a story worth measuring.

Follogram.co Shares 6 Tips for Achieving Authentic Growth on Instagram
Follogram is an impressive platform that tries to make organic growth easy on Instagram by connecting users with a specific and real audience interested in their niche. Follogram.co uses the latest machine learning and data analytics technology to give insight into follower demographics, engagement rates, and content performance so users can change how they post based on their findings.
Follogram includes features like actionable personalized engagement recommendations and comprehensive growth analysis, which will help influencers, businesses, and content creators create a commitment-based community and a sustainable brand presence through organic followers, or "growth meant to be about building relationships, not just numbers."
Here are six expert tips from Follogram to help users achieve authentic Instagram growth:
1. Create High-Quality, Engaging Content
Content is still the core of growth on Instagram. Photos and high-res images, layouts with visual appeal, and strong captions are significant factors affecting engagement with your audience. More than images, storytelling matters too.
They suggest brands and influencers post genuine experiences, behind-the-scenes moments, and relatable content with fans of their brand. Not to mention, video has quite literally changed the game—especially Reels. Instagram's algorithm heavily favors short-form video content, just like TikTok's, even with the more recent emergence of Instagram updates like Threads. According to Follogram, Reels (with trending audio, captions, subtitles, etc.) are a great way to achieve reach and engagement.
2. Consistency Is Key
Possibly the most ignored part of success on Instagram is consistency. Unsanctioned post timelines can result in declining engagement and awareness. Follogram suggested setting up a content calendar and having a regular posting schedule.
It’s important to post at optimal times when the target audience is active. Use tools like Instagram Insights to understand when your target audience is online, which will help you determine when to post your content. Follogram also recommends maintaining a consistent theme/aesthetic to reinforce the brand identity and brand recall.
3. Leverage Hashtags Strategically
Even though hashtags are a powerful method to increase reach on Instagram, it is important to use them correctly. Instead of cluttering your post with generic high-volume hashtags, Follogram recommends using niche and industry-related hashtags that fit your post and potential audience.
Using a combination of researched popular, niche, and less competitive hashtags can increase visibility. Although Instagram provides up to 30 hashtags, Follogram recommends a mix of 10-15 hashtags to keep your post less 'spammy,' yet more discoverable.
4. Foster Genuine Engagement
Authenticity forms the basis of any successful Instagram growth plan. Follogram highlights the value of meaningful interaction with followers instead of merely focusing on follower count. This can include responding to comments, liking and commenting on posts from followers, and joining conversations in the community. Instagram Stories and interactive features (polls, quizzes, and Q&As) can also create two-way conversations. By engaging properly with their audience, brands, and creators develop a few loyal accounts that are likely to share accounts and help with organic growth.
5. Collaborate and Network with Others
Strategic partnerships can be a valuable way to speed up growth. Collaborating with influencers, brands, or creators in the same niche can introduce accounts to new audiences. Follogram lists the success of shoutout exchanges, guest posts, and Instagram Live collaborations. Another credible approach is user-generated content (UGC).
Encouraging followers to create content related to a brand or product and tagging the account builds credibility and engagement for further connections. Once UGC has been created, reposting it builds authenticity by showcasing real people using and enjoying a product or service.
6. Utilize Instagram’s Features to Their Full Potential
Instagram frequently introduces new functionalities, and taking advantage of these updates may benefit users. Follogram suggests that users can benefit from testing its many features, including: • Instagram Reels: Shorter, trending video content.
• Instagram Stories: Engaging, ephemeral content that can be interactive.
• Instagram Guides: A distinctive way to share curated content and recommendations.
• Shopping Features: Especially useful for e-commerce brands to tag products and simplify the purchasing experience. Utilizing all of Instagram’s available tools enables users to expand their content strategy and reach even further.
Final Thoughts
Authentic growth on an Instagram account involves a mix of effective content creation, consistency, engagement, and trying out Instagram's new features. While it may be enticing to take shortcuts, such as buying followers, Follogram argues that building a truly engaged and loyal audience that delivers authentic engagement and results can only happen through organic and sustainable growth.
Follow these six expert pieces of advice to help brands and content creators navigate this competitive landscape with ease and create a strong presence built on real connections and long-lasting success.

Property Advantages of the Powder Metal Compaction Process
Compaction and compressibility of powdered metals are considerably better understood in the manufacturing industry now than in the "old days" (around 20 years ago). As a result of this knowledge expansion, opportunities for the industry to develop intricate, structural-grade components have increased.
It is essential to comprehend powder compaction to regulate characteristics such as component density, shape, size, porosity, and hardness. Let's study the Metal Powder Compaction process to help you modernize the performance and cost-effectiveness of your part:
The function of it in the PM process
Overview of die compaction and tooling operations
The die-pressing procedure
Variables that affect compaction
Techniques for increasing compressibility
The Function of Compaction in the Process of Powder Metallurgy
Numerous factors affect the performance and durability of your finished component at each stage of the powder metallurgy process. If you are familiar with the entire process, you can better appreciate how compaction is crucial to accuracy and consistency.
There are Four Processes Involved in the Traditional Die-Pressing and Sintering Process:
Blending the Powder:
To create a homogenous material blend, powdered elements or alloy metals are combined with lubricants or binders.
Compacting:
The material is subjected to tremendous pressure in a press to create the required shape of a compressed "green" item.
Sintering:
To create metallurgical linkages, which increase strength and integrity, the powder is heated in a controlled-atmosphere furnace to a temperature lower than the melting point of the base metal.
Secondary Processes:
If required, machining, heat treatment, and surface treatments increase value by further improving performance or dimensions.
Introduction to Die Compaction and Its Tooling Functions
Compaction Methods in Powder Metallurgy involve shaping, distortion, and densification of material under the influence of a tooling set. In die compaction, the most popular method for shaping and densifying powder, a powder is pressed into a "green," pre-sintered compact by applying pressure with upper and lower punches.
A collection of compaction tools is made for every unique part. A basic set of compaction tools consists of upper and lower punches, a core rod, and a die cavity. Tool designers create sets based on press designations, part shapes, and powder parameters.
The Process of Die Compaction
The compaction process is an ongoing cycle in die pressing. The fill position is when tooling motions begin, followed by the compaction and ejection phases.
The finished product is a compacted "green" portion. Green density and strength describe the component's density and strength at this point. The green strengths of these compacts are comparable to those of aspirin tablets and Life Savers candies.
Elements Affecting Powder Compaction
Understanding compressibility is essential to comprehending the factors that affect compaction. Compressibility is the ability of a metal powder to densify in a closed die under applied pressure. Several variables affect a material's compressibility, which the manufacturer can modify to achieve ideal results.
Shape and Size of Particles
A particle is defined as being less than 1 mm. Size counts, even when it comes to minuscule details. The size of the particles affects how well materials may be packed together. During compaction, particle shape affects the material blend's compressibility, flow, and packing. In the traditional pressing process, particles with irregular forms tend to pack together more readily than those with other shapes.
Composition of Chemicals
Compressive behavior tends to vary among alloys and elemental compositions. In contrast to pre-alloyed materials, elemental powder mixes composed of iron, nickel, or copper, for instance, compress more readily.
Hardness
Compressive strength may be affected by the hardness of the material you have selected. More complex materials are less compressible because they are more difficult to distort. During compaction, softer, more ductile particles can deform more readily.
Lubrication
The degree to which particles "slide" past one another during compaction—rather than obstinately remaining in place—depends on the quantity and presence of lubricants. The proper processing and lubrication can:
Increase the power of green
Avoid heating-induced work/strain hardening.
Assist with part ejection from the die while preserving shape integrity and efficiency.
Minimize tooling wear, mainly when compaction pressures are higher.
Make it more compressible.
How to Make Things More Compactible
Compressibility greatly influences the economical and efficient manufacture of powder metal components. The specifications needed to increase compatibility may differ depending on the application or material of your part.
Several parameters can be adjusted for a more seamless pressing process, including particle size and shape, lubrication, hardness, and chemical composition. Your most effective plan can consist of:
Changing Lubricants: A solid lubricant can enhance dimensional control, tool life, and green strength by increasing flowability and decreasing friction between particles and the die.
Base Material Adjustment: Using atomized powder aids in maintaining consistency in particle size and shape in structural elements.
Warm Compaction: This makes the material more malleable by lowering the yield strength of the particles.
Compaction Best Practices for Your Powder Metal Part
Can minor adjustments be made to improve the density and strength of your part? A metal powder compaction specialist can examine your application to determine whether there are chances to enhance the functionality and lifespan of your component.
Go to our blog library and continue learning to get the most out of the powder metal process.
