Now for my design notes/headcanons! (There's a lot lol)

- The color pallettes are (for the most part) based off of their parent/parents. In lore terms, l'd imagine that more time they spent around their parents before they hatched, the more their color developed to mimic them. It would usually be used as a survival strategy with their dragon parents, however sometimes their personality overcomes this and they develop their own color.

- Being dragonets, none of them can fly due to their currently underdeveloped wings.

- Tilin's yellow spots would make Quackity think that Wilbur was supposed to be the other parent.

- Tallulah's colors/features are close to that of a duck. It would likely be a coincidence, but it'd be enough to Quackity to feel like the island was mocking him.

- Tallulah's "hair" is feathers. She's the only one with feathers, and it may either be a cause or effect of her being left in the attic (possibly being mistaken to be an egg from a different species and not a dragon, or the coldness of the attic caused feathers to form).

- Tallulah and Tilin have the same colored eyes since Quackity once said that she reminds him of Tilin.

- Chayanne has fins bc he likes doing mlg water bucket clutches and fishing with Missa.

- Chayanne's tail fin, Leonarda's ear, and Richarlyson's wing are ripped in a spot due to loosing a life. Bobby lost one of his after I designed him but one of his horns would be chipped, and forgot Ramón only had one as well so let's just pretend he's got a scar on his left leg lol.

- Its kinda subtle, but Chayanne has protruding bottom canines, similar to my (and many others') Techno design.

- Fun fact that usually in my style I have the neck spines start from the top of the head. Ramon is purposely "bald".

- Ngl I don't have much to say about Trump bc he died so quick (rip) and I never saw much about him; but his hat is too big for his head.

- Bobby is a wyvern bc it's easier to slap everyone with his wings. He also headbutts and slaps ppl with his tail (those hurt more).

- Bobby's colors are less based after his parents, but the orange/blue complementary colors are kinda more of a nod to Jaiden being an artist (which doesn't make a whole lot of sense now idk my brain just defaulted to that), but feel they match his personality as well. Also his scleras (part of eye that's not the iris/pupil) are black unlike the rest who's are normal.

- Leonarda has a tiny mushroom pin on her hat and their back has mushroom-like spots for the hat she always wears.

- People keep saying that Leo somehow looks like Foolish which is funny bc that wasn't even intentional- in fact was worried that she would be one of the only ones who didn't resemble her parents enough. I did try to make her slightly taller but I'm going to guess that it's the jawline lol

- [Edit bc I just thought of it] Leo's wings are bigger bc they've grown faster due to using them more to glide off of Foolish's/Veg's builds

- Dapper is built to be more bipedal than quadrupedal (their dewclaws on their back feet act more like a normal toe for better traction/ stabilization). This makes it easier to grab (or steal) things for their collection. And hold a taser.

- Richarlyson is based after an iguana! thought it would fit well (it's kinda hard to base him off of 5 different people lol)

- Had to go off of a secondhand info + auto translations (I can understand a decent amount of Spanish but have no idea when it comes to Portuguese so this could be off) but think there was something about Richarlyson having a bad leg both in and out of rp, and think maybe Cellbit said something about him having a prosthetic for it and I thought that was so so cool! It's based semi loosely off of a dog hind leg prosthetic and a human running one; probably wouldn't actually be functional but tried to keep the general shape of the leg.

- Richas and his dads cover it in stickers :)

- Juanaflippa's tail and probably the lower half of her front legs (which aren't visible) are semi transparent from Charlie (yellow comes from Mariana), and it shifts around a bit! It looks more like slime than it feels like it. I've been calling her Bananaflippa endearingly

- Gegg intentionally looks like Juanaflippa a bit (but he's way more slimy)

- Gegg's inventory basically consists of him absorbing random things which are sometimes visible (he is so full of avocado toast). He's like Bob from Monsters vs Aliens or smth idk haven't seen that movie in forever.

There some smaller less exciting details and other headcanons I have for them (such as extra accessories they'd have like Tallulah wearing sweaters) but that's about it! Feel free to ask about anything I like talking about them lol

So today I learnt something interesting about the credits in Magic. (CW cults and indoctrination)

So the first one, "Momose Amane", and the last one "Milgram" (it actually is very interesting Milgram is explicitly referenced, but that's not the point of the post), are both written in Hiragana. Which for Amane makes sense, since Hiragana is used for words with Japanese origin. And for Milgram it's interesting because the name actually comes from an American scientist, but it still works because the prison itself is clearly connected to Japan.

Which makes it weirder that the names of the mascots are written in Katakana, which is usually used for borrowed words from other languages. This could imply the cult doesn't have Japanese origin, which makes sense since I've seen some people say it may be based on catholic cults. This detail was probably common knowledge but I think it's neat.

Some other fun stuff I learnt is that it's apparently spelt "Yuuri", when I've been spelling it Yuri all this time (may not be wrong actually, I'm not sure how this works), and... can some Japanese understander tell me how the green one's name is actually spelt? Because I thought it was spelt "Gachata" but the Katakana seems to more directly be "Gachiyata" maybe? I don't really know what I'm doing though, so it's probably a skill issue on my part. EDIT: Clarification in the comments

Also, Amane is referred to as something like "happiness support sister" (presumably "sister" just means she's a member of the cult/religion), which-

Season 8 No Album Release (Read More) Slider (Super Mario 64) (OST Version) - Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games

So, it's been more than a week since it happened: the glorious 4/20 event of SiIvaGunner Season 8. Are we all in agreement that it was fucking amazing?

Look, I love the olden internet days and all what Unregistered Hypercam 2 brought as much as anyone else, those anthems of YouTube's earliest beginnings as heard in rips like Unregistered CyberSpace 4-5: Arrow of 2009 are well worth remembering - but the truth is, that I was just a bit too young to get to experience it all in a way that I can tangibly recall. My age was still in the single digits during the Dreamscape's reign - but in contrast, I remember every little bit of how MLG and Montage Parodies rose in popularity, and how they eventually fell out of style. And like I said back in we are number one but with outdated memes over it, it was as if they died out right as SiIvaGunner itself was taking off, like the torch was being passed from one to the other. All these years later, I presume even the SiIvaGunner team themselves were getting nostalgic for the sheer chaos of it all - and so, the age of MLG was celebrated for a day straight on the 20th of April, 2024.

It was a fantastic day across the board, and it was really hard to pick just one rip from it to feature on here. It featured everything from the typical Snoop Dogg rips a la Ganja Man 9: Hash Blunt Hash (Shorty's Stage), to genuinely excellent melodyswaps using songs featured in MLG parodies, to rips not even prominently featuring music, spoofing MLG edits more directly in a genuinely super nostalgic way. In the end, I had to go with slider has swag, just for it being the most whollistic rip choice possible - a cacophany of noise using all corners of MLG, and in said noisiness perfectly encapsulating the ""appeal"" montage parodies had back during their prime. That, and just like with slideless, I feel like there's just something special about Slider rips in particular - they've been around for so long, posted with both such frequency and such enduring quality, that a meme getting Slider'd feels as if its being inaugurated into the SiIvaGunner Hall of Fame. Seeing my beloved MLG get that very same treatment felt like a prophecy come true, a story in the making since the very beginning of SiIvaGunner, realized at last.

But, okay - what exactly IS slider has swag? It was maybe a bit wrong of me to describe it as just noise, because it does have a throughline carrying its melody from start to finish - Smoke Weed Everyday, that is. This isn't a meme medley that changes sources with every half measure of the song a la Memey Hell - rather, other MLG-related sources instead play like accents onto the base melody, little flourishes that make the rip feel more complete. The rip would've been a great listen with JUST the main melody edits, the pitchshifting on Snoop's vocals are fantastic as-is, but each little flourish just adds more than the last. I think a big reason why it works so well is because of how Slider as a track is composed of a lot of call-and-response segments: The melody plays one segment of four or five notes in a steady rhythm followed by a pause, and within said pause the music leaves just enough room for a different melody cue to "respond" to the lead melody. My favorite example of how that's used in slider has swag in particular has to be the airhorns at 0:25 - Snoop's pitch-shifted vocals are met with the infamous airhorn sample which is ALSO pitch-shifted into the aforementioned response melody, and the two sources keep playing off one another for the rest of the segment.

All your other, uh, "MLG Favorites" are here and accounted for as well, I love the hitmarker sounds as the melody starts up at the very beginning, and how the responses before the airhorn segment are just small audio clips like "NICE MEME", "Mom get the camera" and more - it lets the rip add in just about every part of MLG possible incredibly seamlessly. Perhaps most seamlessly is when Slider's melody changes midway through to a slightly less upbeat segment, as it does in the original track, only here being paired with Enya's Only Time - a song you may not recognize by name, but one that was used CONSTANTLY for shitposts about characters dying in MLG compilations, the theme song of all "RIP in Pepperonis" and "liek if u cri evrytim :(" comments all over the internet. And hey, Semi-Charmed All Star - All Star itself even makes it into the rip, taking over Snoop's lead melody duty toward the end of the rip before it loops, along with everyone's favorite Darude Sandstorm. The list goes on - you're surely getting how much fun of a listen this rip is by this point, right?

And like, I know MLG stuff isn't for everyone - there's a reason it all died out, and I'm sure many viewed this event as to be taken purely ironically. But shit, I dunno, sometimes loud DOES equal funny - and though my perspective may be tinted by nostalgia, Montage Parodies are undeniably a part of internet history, a brief but nonetheless HUGE part of online culture, and one that we need to acknowledge happened no matter its obnoxiousness. They weren't all funny, sure - but rips like slider has swag don't feel like they're made to remind us of how terrible things were, but rather how much fun they all COULD be when done right. Not that SiIvaGunner is spearheading an MLG revival per se - but the entire event gave me a ton of nostalgia for something I only recently realized that I was missing. Nice meme indeed, Mitchell - and I suppose that with THIS. IS. SOLEANNA., we've now come full circle on your rips, in paying tribute to all corners of the internet's shitposting history.

Etymology of the word for ginger (the plant)

The map shows French and Latin as the source word for English. This is because according to Wikipedia, the modern “ginger” comes from the Old English word, but under heavy influence by French.

I find it interesting that Armenian and Georgian share the same word, even if they are not from the same language family. Probably one influenced the other.

Most of the languages apparently use the same word for the plant and the spice, but there seems to be a difference in Greek – “piperoriza” for the plant and “tzintzer” for the spice. I listed both. Edit: "piperoriza" comes from "piperi", meaning "pepper", probably referring to the spicy taste of ginger?

The dotted lines reflect connections where I couldn’t find clear etymology, but it is rather based on my speculations.

And I know that the boxes do not accurately reflect the positions of the languages – I tried to arrange it as best as I can. I had some difficulties with Czech, Slovak and Hungarian as the lines currently cross. To confirm, the words in Czech and Slovak come from Italian, the word in Hungarian – from Latin. Also, I took the liberty of combining Czech and Slovak in one box, because as far as I understand it is the same word with slight pronunciation differences.

I had the weirdest fucking dream about some like made up streamer drama, indirectly involving Vinny Vinesauce? and I don't know why since I don't watch streamers. This entire post is a wall of nonsense but I hear journaling your dreams is good.

It involved this game that was like chess problems almost but as a versus game. Two players were faced off against each other, both with the same randomized set of pieces, but placed differently on the board. The goal of each match wasn't to knock out the king, but just to kill everyone. For some reason there is, a fog of war of like 3 tiles radius or something. You'd have a set health pool, and each player you faced would deal X amount of damage to you if you lose. The goal was to see how long you could survive, and there was a whole leaderboard thing that streamers were competing over. I don't think it'd be very fun in reality.

Well in my dream Vinny Vinesauce got in one specific match, where the piece pool was just a singular rook. He was white, and his rook spawned at A8, and the opponent at B1, but he couldn't see it because of the fog of war. He took his rook to B8, but then instantly after he gets sniped by the opponent's rook. The match instantly ends and he barely processes it for a second, just thinking about moves in the next match it instantly put him in, then just yells "WHAT?"

So the real meat of my dream was this getting clipped as "Vinny Monty Hall Problem" There was a thing with it getting millions of views, with various people that I probably made up reacting to it. But then importantly, SNEAKO/Adin Ross reacts to it, and that gets posted on various social media.

This causes massive public backlash to him, which while deserved, is just bizarre since he doesn't say anything weird specifically. It leads to other streamers calling him the f-slur in a new trend that starts with the MLG Teletubbies guy for some reason? and ultimately results in Joe Biden doing a public announcement, calling Adin Ross the f-slur for reacting to a Vinny Vinesauce clip.

One more part I just remembered (edited) was he started breaking down live on stream because of this, and quit streaming altogether, which I think is a good thing? Still bizarre since I never think of that specimen in my active hours of life.
