Whenever Mob thought about Teru, it felt almost the same as it did when he thought about Tsubomi. It proved harder to bear a crush on someone when the two were close. Teru and Mob walked home together on the days they could, and what once was a wholesome friendship now made Mob hide his face in embarrassment when he thought about it. He could barely survive walking home with Teru with his heart beating too fast to bear.
“Kageyama, are you okay?” Teru asked, leaning into Mob’s face. “You’ve been so quiet this whole time and you’re looking worried.”
Mob tensed up and jumped flusteredly . “Uhh… mhm.”
Teru studied Mob further for a second, and then smiled and returned to his place beside him. “What a relief. You looked like you were thinking about something serious. I can’t have you being serious again. It gets me worried, y’know?”
Mob’s face reddened as he nodded in reply. “Right… I'm sorry, Hanazawa. I didn’t mean to worry you.”
Teru laughed but didn’t say anything in reply, however, Mob noticed the gentle, subtle flush in Teru’s face that made his eyes widen. Teru was flirtatious towards everyone- or rather, every girl- he’d met, apparently, and had never seemed to care besides taking pride in it. Mob had never seen Teru really flush like it had at the moment.
“Hanazawa, you’re turning red.” Mob pointed out.
Teru grabbed his mouth with his hand as his cheeks grew redder than they had been. “I… I am? I… wasn’t aware of that. Haha.”
Mob wasn’t expecting that reaction out of Teru. Yes, he knew about Teru’s flamboyance, and how he had much more emotion than Mob ever would, but he’d never seen Teru seem embarrassed, excluding when Mob had ripped off all of his clothing. But besides that single time, Teru was always flirtatious and never regretted it.
Which is why it felt so weird to see him flustered.
…
“Shishou, how do I know if someone likes me?”
The remains of an exorcized ghost sparkled like stardust as they flew past Reigen and Mob. Reigen paused for a moment, as if Mob’s words were weighing in his head. Then he jumped and looked at Mob, shock sparkling in his eyes.
“Mob, you think someone likes you? That’s surprising.” Reigen smiled. “Who? Is it a girl?”
Mob stared out into the distance, not answering Reigen’s question. “Rather, how do I know if I like someone?”
Reigen’s expression changed, it somehow seemed to be more serious. Mob looked up at Reigen with surprise; he didn’t expect him to become so serious.
“Well, Mob, it all depends on who it is.” Reigen looked down at Mob with his dark brown eyes shining. “Who is it?”
“Hanazawa…” Mob mumbled.
Reigen became shocked yet again, but a humorous sort of shock, as he was laughing and making a big deal out of it. It made Mob flustered and uncomfortable at first, but he grew to think it was funny too, gently smiling and giggling alongside his master.
“Mob, there’s no way this kid doesn’t like you.” Reigen put his hand on Mob’s shoulder. “And if you think you like him… then that’s your decision. All you need to do is trust yourself. That’s all.”
And in the way Reigen always did, he made Mob’s eyes sparkle with admiration as he smiled.
“Mhm.”

mob having changed teru’s world view so dramatically that not only was his entire fight against ???% a painful reversal of their first fight but in the end teru claiming victory because he used his powers to save everyone else, not to beat mob. even when teru couldn’t reach mob, teru had still been so irrevocably changed by his friendship with mob that he acted in a way mob would approve of even faced with a moment of pure defeat. anyway my cause of death is tragic parallels in media and I fear my boy is doomed by the narrative
