I finished my first digital species illustration yesterday! So here's Mobula munkiana (pygmy devil ray/Munk's devil ray)
They live in the eastern pacific from the gulf of california in mexico down to peru. They are filter feeders and are known to go into groups by the thousands probably for mating. They're really cool looking, hope ya enjoy!

#Repost from my Awesome Conservationist Friends at...@nakaweproject @download.ins --- In Baja California Sur Mobula rays continue to be targeted for their their meat, and their gill plates. They appear in large numbers as bycatch in artisanal and industrial fisheries. Due to their slow growth and low reproductive rate, Mobulas are highly sensitive to fishing pressures and their numbers are declining. The Mobula Munkiana for instance, are currently assessed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red list. They are protected internationally under CITES Appendix II, which means that the trade between countries in Mobula ray products is strictly regulated. In addition, they are also protected under Mexican law and their harvest and trade domestically is currently prohibited. Unfortunately, law enforcement is difficult to achieve and it’s not uncommon to find Mobula ray meat on sale in local markets and stores around Mexico. How does this happen? Primarily through mislabelling. Mobula ray meat is often sold under vague names such as “Manta Raya” or even simply “Raya”. Sometimes they’re even sold as “Cazon”. The lack of DNA testing makes it difficult to effectively enforce the law. What can be done? We must continue to put more pressure on ensuring that the law is respected. Demanding supermarkets to properly label seafood products is critical to ensuring that no threatened and/or protected species ends up for sale. The Munk's devil ray, pygmy devil ray, or smoothtail mobula (Mobula munkiana) is a species of ray in the family Mobulidae. It is found in tropical parts of the eastern Pacific Ocean. These rays can be alone, in small groups or in schools, near the surface of the sea or near the seabed. They have been documented to leap out of the water, either alone or in groups, performing vertical jumps, somersaults and other acrobatic maneuvers.
