I just love how Katniss’s method of shutting Peeta up is by kissing him. Like okay girlie that will definitely shut him up, but she, also, just wants to kiss him. And in comparison, Katniss shuts Gale up by slamming the door in his face LOLL

thinking about how dandelions are the first flowers kids bring their mothers. how they’re just a weed, but in such a small fist, presented with such a proud grin, they become a bouquet. it’s a sweet, thoughtful thing to any mother.
but imagine it for katniss. who has always connected the flower to life and hope. imagine katniss receiving a handful of dandelions from her child for the first time.

sometimes i think about how happy Katniss was when they rescued Peeta in Mockingjay, running to him giddy and giggling, making up scenarios inside her mind, dreaming about kissing him, like for a moment despite all the horrific things she had to go through she was genuinely, completely happy and then the absolute, crippling tragedy of it being taken away when he tried to kill her and she found out that they had tortured him and erased every part of him that loved her and not only does he hate her, he’s actually afraid of her and is convinced she’s not a real person and then i want to jump off a bridge

There are so many Everlark moment but there was just something about Katniss stroking Peeta's head in the capitol mission in Mockingjay...
His head by her feet. Her feeding him in the middle of the night, holding on to the lid so he doesn't hurt himself. Asking about the time he was tortured, assuring him she is still trying to protect him. Moving the hair out of his forehead which is probably a relief because his wrists are bloody in the handcuffs. How he froze but didn't withdraw and she kept going. And how he finally fell asleep because he felt safe enough around her.
Chills.

How can anyone say that Suzanne Collins has a bleak and hopeless view of humanity in a world where the Mockingjay epilogue exists? Yes, the characters are forever scarred by the evil that people do and the evil that they themselves have done, but there is still good in the world! We sometimes have to fight to see it, but it's always very real! There is hope for the future, for a better tomorrow! The world can heal and can learn from its mistakes! I can believe there is good in the world because I will do good and will teach my children to do better! Our children will learn the evil that humans are capable of, but I will first show them to see the good! The game we need to play is holding fiercely on to goodness! How can you not break down sobbing from the beauty of it all?

haymitch having to address 4 different deaths for each district on his victory tour. can anybody hear me. haymitch likely having to play the narrative that the deaths of his family were mysterious unsolved murders and to even make it so, partake in the humiliation ritual of public funerals held within the capitol. haymitch having to keep distance from the other victors because he really is a killer and cannot face it. 47 faces and 47 graves dug all because of him. is this thing on. haymitch being forced to mentor tributes he likely knew as classmates or school peers for the first few years of his victory. can you hear me do you understand !!!! haymitch having his games pulled from every possible outlet and blacklisted because of the shocking nature and traitorous way of his win. haymitch likely facing so much scorn amidst all the grief just for surviving. just for making it back home.

Compromise
(Katniss Everdeen x Fem Reader) ❀
Summary: A little drabble of you doing Katniss’s makeup.
Warnings: None! This is pure fluff.
Word Count: 836
“Stay still–what did I just say? Stop squirming around!”
Katniss giggled, wiggling out of your grip. Your makeup brush left a nice red (unintentional) line across her cheek and down her jaw.
“Oh great, that’s beautiful.” You couldn’t help but chuckle as you set the brush aside.
Katniss laughed too. “You really want to put that on my face?” She eyed the bright red blush with unease. “It’ll make me look like a clown!”
“A beautiful clown.” You replied. She smiled. “And I’ll blend it in. Afterwards, you won’t even be able to see it, I promise.”
“I don’t know. What is the rest of the look supposed to be?”
“Red eyeshadow, that’s all I’m going to tell you.” You said with a smug smile. You gently cupped her face, wiping the misplaced makeup away with your thumb. Her cheeks still remained pink beneath your touch. “But it’s going to look beautiful on you. So stop moving and let me put this on.”
She hardly ever let you mess with makeup like this, finding the feeling of too much on her face to be appalling. But after weeks of you begging, she finally gave in. Though she was starting to regret it…
Katniss groaned in protest but stopped moving. Having just come back from training, she was looking forward to taking a nap but you pounced on her with the earliest opportunity to fulfill her promise.
She couldn’t help but giggle again as you rubbed the makeup into her face with your thumbs, tickling her sensitive cheek.
“Y/n.” She whined, gentle hands flailing out to try to push you away. It was a failed attempt.
“No way.” You pushed her onto her back on the bed. “You’re staying right here until I’m done.” Climbing on top of her, you sat on her stomach and made sure she couldn’t fight out of your grasp. You grabbed the eyeshadow pallet.
She fell limp beneath you. You’d finally trapped your prey.
When you finished applying the eyeshadow and the eyeliner, you carefully glued a few jewels to her face, around her gray eyes. Then you sat back and admired her with a proud expression.
For a moment you wondered if you’d put too much blush on her face as she was now a bright red color. When you felt her cheek and realized how hot it was you snickered.
“Well, now the blush is too much.” You set your hand on the side of her face and leaned in closer, using your thumb to gently flick an eyelash away. “I’m trying my best to not make you look like a tomato, love, but you’re as red as one.”
“If you weren’t sitting on top of my stomach and slowly suffocating me I wouldn’t be this red.”
“I don’t know… I think you’re just embarrassed.” You cooed and she flushed even brighter. You leaned closer and pressed a kiss to the tip of her nose.
Katniss reached a hand up and blocked you from going in for another, eyes sparkling. “Come on, get off of me, I can’t breathe.” She complained and squirmed again.
“I don’t trust you, you’ll try to escape my loving touch.”
“Can we compromise?” She groaned with a smile and you felt the corners of your lips perk up.
“What do you have in mind?”
About 5 minutes later, you were sitting in Katniss’s lap, legs gingerly wrapped around her torso as you applied a soft layer of gloss to her lips. Her eyes were closed as if she couldn’t bear to look at you being this close to her face—or if she was just messing with you. When you spoke her name she offered no reply, playing dead.
You decided to make sure she was still with you.
You pressed a quick, gentle kiss to her shiny lips.
Katniss’s eyes flew open and she let out a soft noise of surprise. She blushed once more. “Now you’re running my makeup.”
“Now you actually care?” You teased as you applied a new layer of gloss to her lips. “There, problem solved.”
Katniss just laughed softly. She wrapped her own arms around you and flipped the two of you over so she was on top of you. Her soft eyes shone with mischief and her glittery lips were spread in a wide smile.
“You should let me do your makeup next.”
You laughed again. “No way. I still have to do your hair.”
“My hair is perfectly fine.”
You reached a hand around her head and ruffled her fluffy hair, messing it up. “No, actually, it’s not. Now I have to fix it.” You fussed with a mischievous chuckle.
Katniss sighed dramatically. She couldn’t help but smile and she leaned down and kissed you once more. She smudged her lip gloss again. “And that too.”
Your hand was still gently curled around the shape of your head and you tilted her head down again for another kiss.
“Maybe we should save that until the end.”

“I had a dream, though,” I say, thinking back. “I was following a mockingjay through the woods. For a long time. It was Rue, really. I mean, when it sang, it had her voice.” “Where did she take you?” he says, brushing my hair off my forehead. “I don’t know. We never arrived.” I say. “But I felt happy.” ... Peeta pulls the chain with the gold disk from around his neck. He holds it in the moonlight so I can clearly see the mockingjay. Then his thumb slides along a catch I didn’t notice before and the disc pops open. It’s not solid, as I had thought, but a locket. And within the locket are photos. […] “Your family needs you, Katniss,” Peeta says. My family. My mother. My sister. And my pretend cousin Gale. But Peeta’s intention is clear. That Gale really is my family, or will be one day, if I live. That I’ll marry him. So Peeta’s giving me his life and Gale at the same time. To let me know I shouldn’t ever have doubts about it. Everything. That’s what Peeta wants me to take from him. ... He puts the chain with the locket around my neck, then rests his hand over the spot where our baby would be. “You’re going to make a great mother, you know,” he says. ... As I drift off, I try to imagine that world, somewhere in the future, with no Games, no Captiol. A place like the meadow in the song I sang to Rue as she died. Where Peeta’s child could be safe. ....

One commonality between thg and pjo that I love is that both katniss and percy at the end of their series have the potential to gain power/leadership roles etc and they both refuse because all they want to do is go home and try to find some peace and happiness with the person they love
Like katniss could’ve joined up with coin’s plans for vengeance or taken a similar route to Gale and moved to district 2 for a fancy position in the government/military- but she made the choice to return home to twelve and build a quiet life with peeta
And percy could’ve accepted that offer of immortality and become a *literal* god- but he refused it and went back home to be with annabeth, his mom, and the rest of his friends and family
But whereas so many (if not most) protagonists have these kinds of 💪glorious✨ endings where all of their hard work gets rewarded with power/success/etc- both of these teenagers basically just said “I wanna go home” and returned to their remaining loved ones to find some happiness/peace with them
And this kind of peaceful, quiet ending is *so* important and special to me 😭🥹

i love the hunger games movies, i think they’re a great adaptation but they majorly missed how absolutely broken and sometimes lunatic Katniss was in Mockingjay.
We see her deeply disturbed and brought to tears with the roses after the air raid and with the horrible things Peeta says to her because of the hijacking. But she was seriously fighting for her sanity that entire book and at times was incoherent and manic. She seemed more angry and depressed in the movies and they kinda missed just how disarrayed her mental and emotional states were.
And Coin… She hated Katniss and saw her as a threat in the books and wanted that threat eliminated. But in the movies she just seemed to want everything to seem like it was under her control. Coin wanted Katniss DEAD once the districts were unified.
