Hunger Games is a love letter.
Hunger Games is a love letter to Prim. A love letter to the gentle, to the healers, to the kindly headstrong, to the wise. A love letter to the defenceless and precious, to those who have seen too much too soon — a love letter to those we yearn to save and, often, can’t.
Hunger Games is a love letter to Madge. A love letter to those who love quietly, to those whose silent actions say a lot more than words ever could. A love letter to the companions whose acceptance and support warm our hearts and touch our souls, to those who stay with us forever — sometimes, regrettably, only in memory.
Hunger Games is a love letter to Johanna. A love letter to the wounded, to those made harsh by loss. A love letter to those who’d rather be loathed than deemed an inconvenience, to those who don’t know how to let people in anymore — a love letter to those who don’t remember what it is to be loved.
Hunger Games is a love letter to Rue. A love letter to the sweet and generous, to the brutally sacrificed, to the victims of injustice. A love letter to those who could have been saved but weren’t, to those who deserved better, to the innocent — a love letter to the children who will be forever mourned.
Hunger Games is a love letter to Finnick. A love letter to those whose pain was made to be spectacle, to the dehumanised and abused. A love letter to those who put up a wall and hide their pain, to the brave and broken, to the soulfully beautiful — to those who sometimes fall to pieces and can’t put them back together.
Hunger Games is a love letter to Haymitch. A love letter to those who never stopped hurting, to those who dismantle themselves to cope with what’s left, to those who’d rather forget. A love letter to those whose self-hatred struggles with all the good they desperately want to do, those who’d love to love, those who are afraid to fall asleep — those who are irreparably torn in the aftermath.
Hunger Games is a love letter to Katniss’ father, whose memory is the only survivor, and to Katniss’ mother, who is left to pick up the pieces.
Hunger Games is a love letter to Peeta, the dandelion in the spring. A love letter to rebirth and hope, to the growth of flowers among the ashes, to the promise of a better future. A love letter to love, the selfless, healing love, the one that breathes life back into starved lungs, the one that makes a home, the unconditional embrace that warms wintery hearts — a love letter to a sunset that calls for dawn.
Hunger Games is a love letter to Katniss, to the fire of a revolution that yearns for peace. A love letter to those who, surrounded by violence, choose compassion, a love letter for the inadequate and chosen, a love letter for those who are exhausted and forced to get up. A love letter for those who, after the fight, seek to rebuild, a love letter for those who are broken and selfless, a love letter for those who tried their hardest to save those they loved — a love letter to the survivors.

I hate with a burning passion the theory that the reaping bowl was rigged with Prim’s name. Like it ruins the entire point of the series. It doesn’t matter if you’re a sweet little 12 year old girl who’s name is only in their once, the odds are never in your favour.
Like, if it was deliberate that Prim was reaped, was Rue also picked on purpose? Neither of them held any immediate threat to the Capitol locked safely away in their districts, so what good does drawing them out do? (Obviously other than scaring the districts by killing their youngest but that isn’t specific to Rue and Prim that could be any 12 year old)
And also, there was no guarantee that Katniss would volunteer for Prim. If they really thought Katniss was such a big threat (She definitely wasn’t because other people also hunted outside the fence, why didn’t they ever reap Gale?) they would’ve just put her name in the bowl.
Anyway that’s the end of my little rant for this evening.

Botanic Tournament : Main Bracket !
Round 8
Tumblr media
With the participation of the lovely @lunathewafflelord's sweet female dog Lemon "Poppy" Poppyseed Muffin
Nepeta is the genus of catnip
Toph means lotus
Utena means calyx, "the ring of small green leaves (called sepals) that protect a flower before it opens"
Anthy means flower
NB : Nepeta's surname is written correctly in the tags, but I can't change it on the poll itself

(Roses, rue, poppy, catnip, lotus, bay leaves, strawberries, calyx of a flower, pine)

…Then in my most carefull handwritting, come all the details it would be a crime to forget. Lady licking Prim’s cheek. My father’s laugh. Peeta’s father with the cookies. The color of Finnick’s eyes. What Cinna could do with a lenght of silk. Boggs reprograming the holo. Rue poised on her toes, arms slightly extended, like a bird about to take flight. On and on. We seal the pages with salt water and promises to live well to make their deaths count. Haymitch finally joins us, contributing twenty-three years of tributes he was forced to mentor. Additions become smaller. An old memory that surfaces. A late primrose preserved between the pages. Strange bits of happines, like the photo of Finnick and Annie’s newborn son.

i’m sick i’m Sick because before Chaff and Katniss hold hands on stage and before the old man whistling to Katniss and Peeta, before Thresh saves her, before 11 sends her bread as a thank you and before Rue is even a name in a bowl there’s Reaper. Taking the bodies of his comrades and enemy’s laying them down in a row and closing their eyes and covering them with the best “burial shroud” he could find and sitting vigil beside his nations flag begging them to do something about this rebellion

right ok so now that I’ve plunged headfirst back into my hunger games obsession I need to read the takes on the books ending with Katniss having children. I know y’all have feelings. I know there’s deep metaphors and symbolisms. Give me them.

By far my favorite parallel in the hunger games is between Katniss and Reaper. How they both carefully took the time to honor the bodies of fallen tributes, made sure they couldnt be turned into some spectacle for the capital citizens to just gawk at, made their deaths into something that demanded respect and proper mourning, how they both did this for tributes outside of their own districts, promoting solidarity between the districts, the thing that the capital wanted the least, the thing that the games were supposed to prevent just augh head in my hands i love them so much

I started listening to The Hunger Games because I only read the first book around the time the movie was coming out and nothing else
Not me consuming the absolute fuck out of it in my car
Tumblr media
I've only just started Mockingjay and here is how it's going:
Favorite character: Rue and Mags. Rue is precious and Mags deadass was gonna take a nap for her private session. Haymitch is a close second. Least favorite: Gale. The way he treated Katniss in Catching Fire was unnecessary (but well written) and the fact that he of all people couldn't get through his head that the games forced Peeta and Katniss to be together, and that the two had a trauma bond just like he and Katniss did made me very upset. We're not going to talk about the asshole Peacekeeper from 12 because we're not supposed to like him but he would replace Gale in a heartbeat. Most tragic character: I would say Katniss but that's the whole point, so I'm giving this one to Darius. This wasn't in the movie so the fact that they turned him into an Avox caught me so off guard, and the fact that Effie called him and the red headed Avox girl a "matching set" was so well written and heart wrenching. Best part of the books: How everyone deals with their trauma. It is so so overlooked in many books I've read. Vampire Academy, one of my favorite series, is guilty of this with Sydney during the Bloodlines spin-offs. She has nightmares during one small part of the book during a specific plot point but then it's never covered again. Katniss has nightmares, various forms of flashbacks whether it's from her father's death, the games, or life in The Seam. Something I wish they added in the movies: MADGE! FUCKING! UNDERSEE!

Sometimes I think people only read the part of Katniss describing Rue as being similar to Prim in size and demeanor, but nothing else because it's still wild to me how people thought Rue was white/were surprised that she was played by a black actress, even though she's described as having "dark brown skin and eyes". Like some people either can't read or were just making dumb excuses for their racism (both).

i fully believe that if rue hadn't have died the way she did katniss would have died for her to win the games she would have entered the arena to save prim and died in the arena to save rue
