in regards to fan art, i prefer to only take commissions for media i am familiar with, and i may refuse commissions for media that i don't know particularly well or with which i am uncomfortable. if you're unsure about the media you're looking to commission fan art of, you can inquire via tumblr asks or dms.

i will not take commissions in a different art style from my own. this includes commissions where i would be asked to replicate the style of another artist.

overall, i reserve the right to refuse any commission whose contents i am uncomfortable with.

procedure:

after contacting me via google forms, discord, email, or dms, i will respond to accept, confirm, and provide a price for the commission.

payment will be done upfront via paypal invoice (accepts credit/debit cards, paypal, and venmo). i will send confirmation once the payment has been received.

i will send the rough sketch once it's complete and provide additional details such as a rough color palette if needed or requested.

refunds are only possible before the sketch has been completed.

during the process of completing the commission, i will provide work-in-progress images of the artwork at the line art stage, as well as the flat color and fully shaded stages if applicable to check if there are any changes you want to make to the piece at those points.

additional work-in-progress images will be provided alongside any requested alterations made to the artwork. if you would like progress images at any other point in the process, please let me know.

please provide reference images for the subject of your commission. these can include references for the kind of pose, prop, clothing, etc. you would like, but at least one reference for a character or individual being drawn is necessary.

these can be as simple or as complex as you can provide, as long as they are clear. i will not design a character from a written description of them.

you may, however, supplement reference images with written descriptions if there are certain details for which you do not have images.

terms:

the final product of the commission is a digital artwork, and is provided in the form of a PNG or JPG/JPEG file. no physical/material copy is provided.

the artist retains copyright over the finished artwork, as well as any work-in-progress images provided to the commissioner.

the rights to all characters or individuals featured in a commission are retained by their respective owners.

▬▬▬ Aaron knew about asperger's syndrome, it is something that as particular as it sounds, it is among the different disorder he has seen throughout his career as a profiler, he could identify a person with this syndrome as he knew the characteristics that identified this condition.

▬▬▬ When he met you, he thought you were very sweet, but you proved to be too shy and somewhat awkward when talking, you didn't even look him in the eyes when conversing, you even found it difficult to understand some simple things that Hotch tried to convey, you didn't get it, he could notice the autistic spectrum characteristics in you.

▬▬▬▬ He loved you, he realized how much he liked you since he didn't want to profile you as he would do with anyone, he wanted to get to know you more and more, that you yourself gave him the confidence to know more about you.

▬▬▬▬ You were a little younger than him, very different from him in so many ways, he felt really nervous and scared to take you into his world, destroy you because of his chaotic work, and because of his little experience with asperger people, he only knew Reid and sometimes even didn't understand him.

▬▬▬▬ One night he spoke to Spencer as they were returning from a case, he thought talking it over with him would be best, he commented that he was meeting a girl with asperger's syndrome and wanted to know how to treat and understand her, Reid took the time to give him some facts about the condition and give him some advice, the most important was “Pay attention to the details.”

▬▬▬ Aaron understood it soon after, You had difficulties to understand nonverbal communication (gestures, facial expressions, tone of voice, etc.), You didn't understand jokes, jokes, metaphors or sarcasms, for you everything was for its literal meaning, your way of speaking and expressing yourself was so correct, technical and formal with a moderately childish tone of voice, that for people who didn't know you it could sound annoying and pedantic, but for Hotch it turned out to be simply cute on you.

▬▬▬▬ You were talking so passionately about your favorite things, explaining to Aaron even the smallest detail without being able to stop for a second, another characteristic of your condition, this man could listen to you talk for hours and hours and he wouldn't get tired, this helps him a lot to know you in depth.

▬▬▬▬ The first time you met Jack, Hotchner was scared that you couldn't relate well with him because of your poor social skills, but to his surprise, you were much better at striking up a conversation with a child than with an adult, you missed the real world just to play with his son as if you were just another child, an image that destroyed his heart was watching you and Jack playing in the little boy's room with all his toys on the floor after dinner, you were laughing and enjoying yourself like he had never seen you before.

▬▬▬▬ Your relationship was progressing very well, everything seemed to be going great, until one afternoon, Hotch decided to take Jack to the amusement park due to the little one's insistence to go, he decided to invite you to accompany them, which you happily accepted, Once in the park Jack and you were walking each one holding Aaron's hands. At first you watched with amusement the attractions with their lights and the people having fun, but it came to a point that the screams and laughter of the people were bothering you, they sounded so loud in your head that it began to upset you.

▬▬▬▬ The loud noises made you very anxious, you realized that there were many people around you and it made you uncomfortable, you felt a discomfort run through your chest as your throat felt clogged with the need to cry, you tried to pretend that nothing was wrong as you didn't want to ruin the moment with Aaron and Jack, but you were dating an expert profiler, indeed, you didn't even have to be one to notice that you didn't feel well at all.

▬▬▬▬ At the moment Hotch noticed it, he saw how you moved the fingers of your left hand similar to how you do when you are nervous, when he asked you what was happening you hesitated for a second, but with much sorrow you approached him whispering in his ear that you did not feel comfortable in that noisy place, everything got worse when a group of teenagers nearby began to scream and laugh scaring you so much that you covered your ears with your hands on the verge of tears, you seemed so helpless and weak that Aaron quickly took the determination to get you out of there.

▬▬▬▬ On the trip to drop you off at your house, the air conditioning in Aaron's car helped you calm down along with his hand, which rested on your leg silently giving you to understand that he was there for you at all times, but you felt extremely ashamed of yourself for reacting like that and ruining the night, Jack saw you worried without understanding why you had reacted like that in the park, he wanted to know if you were okay, but honestly you did not feel like talking about what happened.

▬▬▬▬ When leaving you at your home, Hotch noticed the instant relief that ran through your body to be in your comfort zone away from people and loud noise, you tried to apologize for ruining his night and making him feel sorry for taking you out of the park in that state, you thought that after today Aaron would not want to see you anymore, but he was totally sincere in his own way, he made it very clear that he was not upset with you and he was willing to help you in all your crises as many times as necessary, he was not going to abandon you for anything in the world, he could not leave without kissing your head in a careful and loving way, being this action one of the first signs of affection of the major towards you.

▬▬▬▬ That same night, he took Jack to bed to sleep as usual, but his son still worried about you asked his father why you had behaved that way, in the best possible way he explained to Jack your condition and some characteristics that you suffered from this, resolving doubts of the child, When he found out and understood what was happening, he bravely promised his father that he would protect you from all the bad things and help you to enjoy the world as he did, these words touched Aaron's heart, making him smile sweetly, thinking that his son was an angel and very intelligent.

▬▬▬▬ In the solitude of his room, Hotchner realized how difficult this disorder could be for you, what happened today in the park helped him to see that you needed a boost to move forward in your daily life, that you needed someone by your side to help you get ahead, and he would be that someone, he was really in love with you and would not let you go so easily, he would help you to be more independent and brave to face the world, but above all, to feel loved.

We all have screenshots from Rise that we love! Sometimes it's because of the beautiful artwork and animation. Sometimes it's because of the characters and expressions. Sometimes it's just a very entertaining "paused at the wrong moment" smear frame!

If you have a screenshot that you love, for any reason, feel free to submit it as an entry in the ROTTMNT Screenshot Showdown!

Submission Guidelines:

Your screenshot can be from any official Rise of the TMNT media (episodes, movie, comics, shorts, etc).

Similar submissions (ex: two frames from the same scene) may be combined into a single entry, at the moderator's discretion.

Please submit a high-quality photo if possible! If you are unable to find a good quality image of your screenshot, just submit whatever quality you are able to (even a photo of your screen will do!) and I will attempt to procure a higher-quality version.

If you are unable to procure a screenshot at all, but still have one in mind, feel free to leave a written description and I will do my best to locate the image for you! Please be as descriptive as possible, and include the episode (or other media) your screenshot is from.

You may submit multiple screenshots, but please only submit each screenshot once!

Okay, I need to talk about this. A blacklist system in the form that people are requesting it is not simple. At all.

First off the blacklist system for just site images would only realistically extend to just to items in your hoard (or lairs for dragon images) or in the database. What about the items showing in coli/bios/forums/tab info? As far as I'm aware those don't pull info from personal player settings, just their main database. There would need to be a system that checks all of those for your supposed blacklisted items. There is no 'it just blurs the image' here. There's a 'we would need to make an entire extra triple layer cake of code to check everything' or 'the basic blacklist blurring exists but only on these three areas and is visible everywhere else.'

And suppose they do all that, every bit of it and all that effort. It still won't matter. Forums, clan pages, dragon bios, all these allow for custom images. I could save a photo of my dragon that falls under someone's blacklist, slap that into imgur, and put it in the bio. Maybe I wanted to photoshop my hatchling into a silly hat? Dragon picture in bio. Artwork depicting a seemingly 'safe' dragon not on someone's blacklist with a feature that upsets them? Well it wasn't blurred so clicking it should have been okay. Saving someone's avatar dragon image to use as forum decoration? Not linked to any actual player icon and therefore exists outside of any blanket blacklist. Someone just buys a dragon off the auction house and finds it has a hatchery banner in the bio with an image they don't like? At least the code doesn't show image previews, but you're still going to wind up seeing the image.

The only way around the above issue is heavier moderation on what people can post and do with their custom spaces, which goes against the primary argument of a blacklist only affecting the person who sets it. Even then I can see such toxic hostility sprouting up when someone does something as simple as showing off a silly dragon edit because 'well some people would have that dragon blocked!' It already happens, even in spaces where it is perfectly clear spoilers aren't required.

I understand not wanting to see things. I understand things making you uncomfortable. But please stop saying this is 'simple accessibility' because it isn't. This is so heavily multi-layered from not only a basic gameplay stance but from a social gameplay stance.

When describing things such as the poses and scene, please break the text up into smaller chunks. Also, please don’t tell me to just do whatever, that isn’t helpful at all, stressful, and odds are you know these characters more than I do!

Must have a visual reference for any OCs or character who are difficult to find good references for (such as for a very niche series). I need as neutral lighting in screenshots as you can manage, if you want color accuracy I need accurate colors for colored pieces or the ability to infer what they would be in the lighting of the commission. If the screenshots are too bad I will say no until you can get a better one.

Keep it SFW, suggestive at most for adult characters only (vulgar dialogue or text allowed as long as it's not bigoted or in poor taste). Upper nudity is fine for adults. You must be an adult for that. Fetish content that wouldn’t be clocked from an outside perspective is not allowed. I can also tell when people try to stealth fetish art out of me.

I will not emulate other online artists’ styles, and this commission opening is for the above style only.

If you want me to illustrate part of your fic, do not expect me to read it. Give me a description of the scene as you would any other illustration. If you try this, I will reject your commission.

Shipping is fine (OCXCanon, OCXOC, CanonxCanon) provided it isn't incest or adult/minor. If I'm skeeved out by a particular one you bring up I'll also let you know if I won't do that one.

No politics, no bigoted content (including transphobia and exclusion), no shitty tired jokes like farm tools, rape jokes, pedophilia jokes, or anything involving F/yr unless it’s him getting being obliterated into a fine paste. You get the gist, he makes me uncomfortable and I refuse to draw him, and poor enough taste concepts will get you rejected and blacklisted.

There are some series I refuse to draw for full stop. If you ask for one, I’ll let you know.

Hi! Of course it's okay to ask, I'd be happy to try and describe it for you :) Throwing this under a readmore since it's image heavy!

I've made an alt account to give the best explanation I can - when you join the server, you'll be dropped right into the rules channel. You'll see two other channels, the FAQ and the old bug reporting channel, which has a link to a Google Form for any bugs you encounter and want to report.

You'll need to agree to follow our rules next. Discord I believe only allows us to list 6 rules - you'll need to read through the rules channel for the full list!

After that, you'll need to wait a few minutes before you can interact with Silverpelt to gain access to the rest of the server. Use this time to read through the rules channel to make sure you understand how we expect our members to act!

Once the countdown is up, you'll be able to click the verify button! If it doesn't work straight away, wait a bit and try again. Sometimes the silly bot is taking a nap and forgets to let newcomers in!

This will open up a ton of new channels, which may be a bit overwhelming at first. Don't stress too much - you can click Browse Channels at the top of the channel list to choose exactly what you'd like to see!

Some important channels:

staff-help is where you go to open a ticket. If you ever have a concern about the server, such as another member making you upset or uncomfortable, you can open a private ticket to chat with the moderators. Nobody can see these but you and the team, so they're a great way to express how you're feeling about things without fear of being judged by others!

Everything in the Clan Gen category is where you'd go to chat about the game! We have a general channel for regular chatter, a screenshots channel for sharing your in-game pictures, a challenges forum for mixing up your gameplay, and a clan-sharing forum for sharing your Clans!

The Creative Corner category hosts channels like art, alongside the modding channels. This is where you'd go to get user-created mods (such as the ever-popular LifeGen!), or to talk about making your own!

The Tech and Game Support category is where you want to be if you need help. The official-tech-help forum accepts threads asking for help with the ItchIo version of the game, while the players-helping-players channel is where you'd go for help with the GitHub developmental version. There is also a save-file-editing channel for help with editing your files, such as bringing a dead cat back to life or causing a cat to become pregnant!

I was just curious, what would some of Lucifer’s bonding attempts look like? Would Nicaise—once she arrives— try to encourage Alastor to get to know Lucifer? Even if she doesn’t know the real relationship between herself and him?

Thank you so much! I'm glad you think so. I do try to keep true to the characters, but I worry I tend to be a little biased, so I appreciate you saying this.

(Forgive me, but I'm going to blabber a little bit before I properly answer your question.)

So, as I've been going along, I haven't really had a set timeline for the Devil's Bastard AU because I've mostly been thinking of scenarios and how things would go in response to the asks I've been receiving. As a result, the timeline for this AU has been kinda wibbly wobbly. At first, Alastor knew and he was keeping it a secret, then he didn't know but Lucifer figured it out. Then Nicaise became a real character in the AU and she got involved in events, and there was something about a dog...

As of now though, I'm getting a sense of how I'd actually like the timeline to go.

First being that nothing comes out until after the finale. Nicaise meeting Charlie in Heaven is sort of the catalyst for everything, but it's not until after she falls from Heaven that any secrets start coming out. Once it's known that Nicaise is Alastor's mother, and he makes the connection that Alastor was born later that same year, the gears in Lucifer's brain start turning and he starts wondering about the missing time from the night he and Nicaise met. That leads to him doing some digging on Nicaise's life, (my mental image is talking to someone he's on good terms with in Heaven who has access to records of mortals' lives on Earth), which in turn leads to him finding out that Alastor is in fact his kid.

I think once Lucifer finds out, there's no way for him to try bonding with Alastor without revealing that he's Alastor's dad, and once Nicaise learns that, it doesn't take her long to realize she's Alastor's mom. Even if Nicaise hadn't realized Alastor's on her son by her own at that point, she's able to piece together what happened based on what Lucifer's told her of their first meeting and Alastor's behavior towards her. So in any scenario where Nicaise sees Lucifer trying to connect with Alastor, she's already going to know the reason why.

(Okay, now to actually answer your question! Apologies for the word vomit.)

Lucifer definitely fumbles a lot when it comes to trying to form any kind of bond with Alastor. With Charlie, he seems to try to bond by showering her with gifts and offering to simply take care of her problems for her. It's a bit of a shallow foundation for a relationship, but Charlie at least seems to appreciate that he's trying, even if she's a bit uncomfortable with it and wants some actual support. But Alastor is proud, independent, and seems pretty uninterested in grandiose displays of wealth, preferring a more moderate lifestyle. If anything, Lucifer's attempts to bridge the gap by giving gifts would just be taken as him rubbing his power and wealth in Alastor's face. Alastor does compare Lucifer a lot to the man who kidnadopted him; a rich white man who had a fondness for champagne and caviar.

Nicaise's feelings on the matter are a bit complicated. As much as she likes Lucifer as a friend, she knows he's not really Alastor's parent at the end of the day. He didn't raise Alastor, didn't even know he had a second child until recently. She dresses both of them down when their behavior becomes unacceptable (insert a mental image of both of them on their knees with bowed heads while she's standing over them with her hands on her hips) but Nicaise isn't about to force her boy to see Lucifer as a father figure. Instead I see her telling them that as long as they're going to be under the same roof they're going to be civil whether they like it or not. (Cue Vaggie breathing a sigh of relief.)

Sadly, she doesn't really know Alastor either, not anymore. Not since Heaven took away her 'painful' memories. She knows she died when Alastor was still young so she encourages Lucifer to give Alastor space, "Let him come to you." It's a struggle for Lucifer because after his shutting himself off left his relationship with his wife and daughter so threadbare, it's hard not to feel like he's just giving up on his son. But over time they do reach a point where they can at least coexist in the same space. This is probably the real starting point for Lucifer and Alastor to form any kind of bond.

Of course, there's still the matter of whatever ulterior motives Alastor has for the hotel. The fact that his mother is now there... Is something he will have to figure out along the way.

I’m in D&D group on discord that is mostly free to the public to apply to join a session that’s starting at the end of the summer. The session hasn’t started yet but people who want to apply can join and start roleplaying anyway. To preface this, I’m giving everyone fake names and this happened relatively recently. There was a channel for text roleplay and people could make their own threads. There is one person, James, who had admitted to being a minor, around thirteen from what their texting style implies, and they were role playing with Adam, who I believe is over 18. Adam started coming into James’ character, who was a minor as well. Keep in mind this is a public chat. Now this person, Jesse, started talking in the chat in brackets, and said “Not Adams’ character not realizing that James’ character is jailbait XD”. This situation is very obviously horrible and what makes it worse is that James’s character was actively fighting against Adam’s character. I said something in the discussion chat in the server about this situation, and said this is incredibly uncomfortable to watch, and Jesse said that what happened was wrong, but to “not be the bait” for creepy people and basically saying to not play under 18 characters. And afterwards when the discussion died down, Jesse said “Now let’s refrain from using public humiliation in the future.” Which I felt was very obviously a dig at me. Now, fast forward to yesterday, where James was being unintentionally mean to someone in the images chat where they posted their selfie. My friend Liam told them that it was incredibly bad manners to say something like that and to use tone indicators in the future if possible (many people in the server use tone indicators). All of a sudden Jesse chimed in and started arguing with Liam about how tone indicators are not needed and “you want a tone indicator? Use proper grammar and syntax.” And how “Language was actually built around *communication*, believe it or not.” (Paraphrasing that last part). And at this part I’ve had enough. I said “hey man you are literally arguing in a roleplay discord server over grammar this is a stupid hill to die on” and he basically said “I die on every hill” and continued to argue, with this high and mighty tone, using sarcasm and very obviously (to me and a few others I’ve talked to) talking down to me. I left it off and said: “dude this is incredibly stupid argument. You’re dying on a hill about grammar in a roleplay discord server.”. I brought this all up to the moderator, who has publicly said to contact them if you have a problem with someone, and nothing has been done yet. To top it all off, Jesse messaged Liam after the moderator contacted me, telling him “if you want to talk about something let’s talk like proper adults without getting others involved.”. AITA?

Hello everyone❗ I’m opening commissions for some quick and simple drawings that will take 1-2 hours of my time. I generally only do portraits, and I will default to monochrome black or brown on a white background unless you request otherwise. Your choice between hard ink and sketchy charcoal, and I can emulate a particular style at your request. I will do headshots, half-body, full-body, and/or multiple subjects but keep in mind I will be spending roughly the same amount of time regardless so that will be reflected in the level of detail. I WILL draw: Characters from practically anything, your OCs, you, your friends, or your family (assuming you are comfortable providing reference images), celebrities, or anyone I could feasibly find pictures of on google. Nudity, moderate sexuality, blood, mild gore.

I WON’T draw: Anything heavily mechanical (think transformers), animals/furry (”catgirl” kind of shit is fine), detailed backgrounds, graphic gore/sexuality, and anything/anyone I am personally uncomfortable with (we’ll cross that bridge if we come to it.)

Notes from the first chapter of Roman Homosexuality, by Craig Williams. Warning for discussion of slavery, rape, and pederasty.

The Romans really didn't have any concept of sexual orientation like we do today. The gender a man was attracted to didn't matter any more than whether he preferred blonds or brunets. And this was a native Roman norm, not a Greek importation.

Instead, male sexuality was defined in terms of gender roles and social class. A Roman man was supposed to perform masculinity both in his public comportment and by being the penetrating partner in private. And he was only supposed to do it with people considered "available" - i.e. his wife, slaves, and prostitutes. Freeborn Romans were supposed to be off-limits.

Since slaves were imported through slave markets or as prisoners of war, and thus usually weren't Roman, sexual norms sometimes had a "Roman/non-Roman" distinction. E.g. Roman portraits of Ganymede, Jupiter's young male love, often play up markers of his Trojan ethnicity to reassure the viewer that Ganymede isn't a freeborn Roman boy, and he's thus an acceptable target of desire.

A Roman man was also supposed to exercise moderation, i.e. to not sleep around too often. This wasn't out of respect for his wife or other sexual partners, though. Over-indulging in sex was seen as an excessive luxury and lack of self-control, especially if he spent too much money on slaves or prostitutes, or went out with a prostitute in public. It was considered the same kind of vice as drinking too much or wearing overly fancy clothes.

For a man to only have sex with his wife was respectable, even a little idealized, but unusual enough that people would comment on it.

Of course, many men diverged from these norms in practice. Often, what mattered most wasn't what a man did in private, but the image he could project to his peers.

This book explicitly says it's focusing on men. I may have to find other sources for Roman women's sexuality and trans topics.

In some ways, this is an uncomfortable topic for me to read. My own view is that a "good" sexual and romantic relationship occurs between equals, and built on mutual respect, honesty and consent. This can include straight, queer, kinky, and poly relationships, but excludes anything involving slavery or children, since the power imbalance makes it impossible for one party to freely consent. And I especially disapprove of non-consensual sexual contact, i.e. sexual harassment, abuse, and rape.

This book is full of examples of relationships that therefore read to me as sexist, abusive, and rapey. I shouldn't be surprised, though: that's what slavery is. It means treating humans as objects. It comes down hardest on the enslaved, of course, but it also erodes the humanity and empathy of the slave-owner. And sexism is most violent and traumatic toward women (and folks shoved into the "woman" category), but it's suffocating, toxic, and sometimes violent for men, too.

Even so - that's nothing wrong with the book, it's just history. And considering all the queer humor and speculations I make on this blog, it's a topic I want to learn more about.

Vee Headcanons #2

People seemed to like the last post I did, so I figured I’d come up with a few more. You can find the previous post HERE.

(also, I know it says Vee Headcanons, but uh, some of these are more about basilisks in general)

Headcanon #8: Despite their other similarities with snakes, basilisks are actually not cold-blooded, they are endotherms. However, they can absorb heat from their surrounding by basking in the sun or the like in order to preserve energy.

Cold weather do make them lethargic and in the wild, basilisks would go into hibernation during particularly harsh winters when food was scarce.

For this reason, the basilisks being experimented on by the Emperor’s Coven were kept in uncomfortably chilly cells. So even on stomachs full of magic, the subjects wouldn’t have the energy to fight back or try to escape.

To counterbalance that sad image, I want you all to imagine Vee once winter rolls around properly,  refusing to go outside unless she is dressed in five layers head to toe. She prefers to spend the winter months curled up under a blanket (or three) in front of an open fire.

Headcanon #9: Basilisks have the natural ability to mimic pretty much any voice they hear. Not only that, but they can imitate pretty much any sound as well.

You can imagine the hijinks that ensued once the other kids discovered this talent of Vee. How did they discover it, you ask?

Well, they were out walking one day when they encountered this dog behind a fence that just wouldn’t stop barking at them. So Vee barked back. Suffice it to say, it was the funniest thing the kids have ever seen and they spent the entire day finding things for her to imitate. From dogs, cats, various birds and cars to every random sound effect or anime clip Luz could think of. 

One thing lead to another and now, every time she’s surprised, Vee does the Wilhelm scream. Call it the Veelhelm scream.

Headcanon #10: Vee and Gus often had a friendly rival centered around the age-old question of who could make the better cosplay of their favorite Human media. More often than not, they ended up tied more times than not… mainly because their illusions and shapeshifitng was so good that the judges (both voluntary and involuntary) kept forgetting who was who and assigning points wrong.

Eventually, they decided to settle the debate without the use of magic, but rather using common human materials and tools. It did not end well. Gus burned himself on a glue gun and Vee accidentally swallowed a bag of sequins. I don’t know how she managed that, only that she was coughing up glitter for a week afterward.

Headcanon #11: Similar to how fairies from the Artemis Fowl series of books have the Gift of Tongues, basilisks have the ability to understand and speak any language they hear. This ability is magic, though it thankfully only requires a few small sparks to work.

Like most of their abilities, magic and mundane, this evolved in basilisks to better help them infiltrate groups of prey, but it can obviously be used for more peaceful purposes. And at a smaller scale, Vee never has to endure horrendously bad dubs of foreign cartoons. Unlike some unfortunate kids.

Headcanon #12: Basilisks can hold their breath for a… moderately impressive amount of time. The average full-grown basilisk can, without any training, hold their breath for roughly nine minutes. Vee, who is still fairly small can, if she stays still, hold her breath for a staggering twelve minutes. Which is half the current human world record.

Headcanon #13: Luz had told her friends (minus Hunter) about Vee before they were stranded in the Human Realm. So in their conscious minds they knew there was a basilisk living in Luz’ house and that she was not dangerous in any way.T he thing is, it can be very difficult to ignore deeply ingrained instincts yelling ”This is a dangerous predator that will eat you! Run!”

Unbeknownst to them, Vee couldn’t eat them even if she wanted to. Witches produce a chemical in their skin and blood that makes their flesh taste repulsive to basilisks. In the Human Realm, this chemical is found in, of all things, broccoli, making this controversial green taster horribly bitter to Vee. Although Luz already disliked broccoli, so this never raised any suspicions for Camila.

In a somewhat ironic twist, this chemical was very attractive to common Human Realm mosquitos. As you can imagine, the magical witch blood had some… interesting effects on the local mosquito populations.

Headcanon #14: One of the many strange little things and behaviors Camila noticed after the re-vee-lation was Vee’s obsession with garlic. Whenever Camila was using garlic while cooking and Vee walked by the kitchen, she’d stop dead in her track and sniff around. Something about the smell seemed fascinate her on an instinctual level.

It got stranger still as Vee eventually took a few cloves and put them on the nightstand next to her bed. When asked about it, she replied rather sheepishly that she didn’t know why she did it, just that it felt right and that it made her feel safe. ”Well, at least no vampires will bite you in your sleep,” Camila joked and let it be. It’s not like it was hurting anyone.

The one to finally shed some light on this strange behavior was Hunter, who had read a few books on basilisks.

Turns out it was to keep vampires away.

Demon Realm vampires were apex predators that occupied a very similar niche to basilisks, another species of apex predators. This obviously put the two at conflict with each other. In the wild, basilisks would use garlic, which is poisonous to vampires, to mark their territories. They usually kept at least a few cloves in and around their nest to ward of any bloodsuckers stalking the night.

Today, there aren’t a whole lot of ”pure” vampires left in the Demon Realm. However, their legacy lives on into modern time and so does their infamous garlic weakness. You see, up to 46% of the witch population, as well as some demon lineages have vampire somewhere in their ancestry. Thus, garlic is one of the biggest allergens on the Boiling Isles.

Not everyone has a garlic allergy (the entire Clawthorne family, for instance), but it is very common. Gus has a mild intolerance, though it’s not too bad. Willow has got it a bit worse and, much to Luz’ dismay, so does Amity. One piece of garlic bread and it’s no kisses for Luz for the rest of the day.

after contacting me via google forms, discord, email, or tumblr dms, i will respond to accept, confirm, and provide a price for the commission.

payment will be done upfront via paypal invoice. i will send confirmation once the payment has been received.

i will send the rough sketch once it's complete and provide additional details such as a rough color palette if needed or requested.

refunds are only possible before the sketch has been completed.

during the process of completing the commission, i will provide work-in-progress images of the artwork at the line art stage, as well as the flat color and fully shaded stages if applicable to check if there are any changes you want to make to the piece at those points.

these can be as simple or as complex as you can provide, as long as they are clear. i will not design a character from a written description of them.

you may, however, supplement reference images with written descriptions if there are certain details that you do not have images for.

terms:

the final product of the commission is a digital artwork, and is provided in the form of a PNG or JPG/JPEG file. no physical/material copy is provided.

the artist retains copyright over the finished artwork, as well as any work-in-progress images provided to the commissioner.

the rights to all characters or individuals featured in a commission are retained by their respective owners.
