Working on my javascript for my web page. Turns out I have the perfect kind of setup to accomplish some of the project requirements, specifically with even handlers and user interactions
My website, conceptually, will load a different employee details page depending on what employee name is clicked on. But I need to load it dynamically (instead of hard-coding it) so that the user can add or delete employees & it'll be able to still load the relevant shit.
So! Only one employee details page, but depending on how it's loaded, it'll load a different employee's information. Still working on getting down Exactly how to do it (I'm thinking using URL parameters that'll read a different object depending on what ID is used)
It's entirely doable. In fact, it's probably extremely common to do in web pages. No one wants to hard-code information for every new object. Of course not. And thus the usefulness of dynamic javascript stuff.
I can do this. I can very much do this.
#speculation nation#i wasnt very good when i got home and i read fanfic for a while#then took a nap. and now im up again and Getting To Work.#i dont have to have this 100% perfect for final submission just yet. bc final submission isnt today.#but i need to have my final presentation over my thing done by noon (11 hours from now)#and im presenting TODAY. and part of that will be giving a live demo of my project website#so. i need to have all of the core functionality of my website down at the Very Least#might not be perfect yet. but by god if im gonna show up to my presentation with my website not working.#i need to have the employee list lead to employee details with personalized information displayed per employee#i need to create an add employee field that will Actually add an employee. using a form.#and that employee will need to show up on the list and have a new id and everything. the works.#need to set it up so that employees can be deleted. shouldnt be too much extra.#and it would be . interesting. to give an actual 'login' pop-up when someone clicks on the login button#with some kind of basic info as the login parameters. this cant be that hard to code.#the project requirements are: implement 5 distinct user interactions using javascript. at least 3 different eventhandlers#at least 5 different elements with which interaction will trigger an event handler. page modification & addition of new elements to pages#3 different ways of selecting elements. one selection returning collection of html elements with customized operations on each...#hm. customized operations on each... the example given is a todo list with different styles based on if an item is overdue or not#i wonder if my personalized detail page loading would count for this... i also have some extra info displayed for each#but i specifically want the employees to be displayed in the list uniformly. that's kinda like. The Thing.#actually im poking around on my web pages i made previously and i do quite enjoy what i set up before.#need to modify the CSS for the statistics page and employee details to make it in line with what i actually wanted for it#maybe put a background behind the footer text... i tried it before & it was iffy in how it displayed...#but it looks weird when it overlaps with a page's content. idk that's just me being particular again.#theres also data interchange as a requirement. but that should be easy if i set an initial employee list as a json file#good god im going to have to think of so much extra bullshit for these 10 made up employees#wah. this is going to be a lot of work. but. im going to do it. i just wont get very much sleep tonight.#that's ok tho. ive presented under worse conditions (cough my all nighter when i read 3gun vol 10 and cried my eyes out)#and this is going to be the last night like this of my schooling career. the very last one.#just gotta stay strong for one more night 💪💪💪

I need poll posts to be updated to include a "notify me of the results button" and I don't mean it as the usual "see results" option a lot of people add in the poll itself. I mean a tumblr function that I can click at the bottom of the post or something, because it always pains me that, if I'm interested in seeing the final results of a poll directed at a demographic I'm not a part of, I inevitably have to skew the data by clicking on a meaningless option to get a notif when it's done 😭😭😭

About The Duskbloods and Bloodborne
I'm guessing that the Duskbloods is to be conceptualized as both a Bloodborne sequel and a Bloodborne prequel. Confusing? Yes. The logic underpinning Bloodborne is confusing, but not impossible to untangle.
Time is broken in Bloodborne. It has become cyclical instead of linear. The scholars built a device - the Astral Clock - that let them look into other periods of time. What they discovered is that if they continue far enough into the future they arrive again at their own past.
Tumblr media
The path that the player takes through the game itself is playing through that loop in a cycle from evening to night to morning - early events (combating the plague of beasts) to middle events (the calling of the blood moon and increasing insanity) to late events (the player is enthralled by the blood and becomes a beast for the next Hunter to hunt). This is graphically shown on the Astral Clock where the hunter arrives at 6'o'clock pm just after the emergence of beasts [Beast Embrace Rune], arrives at Oedon Chapel by around 9'o'clock pm [Oedon Rune], exposes the Blood Moon at midnight [Moon Rune], Communes with The Horrors for the next few hours [Communion Rune], and then becomes the First Beast hunted by the First Hunter at 4'o'clock am just before sunrise.
The existential horror of existence in Bloodborne is that the cast is trapped in a loop and doomed to play out the same tragedies over and over again. The communication of the "Great Ones" are echoes of the previous generation of loop - distorted by the passage of time - which the scholars dig up and misinterpret as something eldritch and incomprehensible and alien. The more the scholars learn about the past atrocities of humanity, the further they descend into paranoia that fellow humans are just beasts in disguise - until the perception becomes reality like a self-fulfilling prophesy.
The fundamental problem with the desire for a Bloodborne "2" is: how do you build a sequel to a story that is trapped in a closed time loop? Everything that needed to be said with the original story is done. By the end of the game there are precious few familiar NPC's left alive, so it's not like that's something to be an effective draw for a sequel. You could reveal the characters who were only hinted at in text, or present the familiar characters again in a different context. Dark Souls 2 and 3 did this. But those games also made it abundantly clear about where these roads lead: change too much in a sequel and there's fan backlash, retain too much narrative baggage and clutter and you get a tired world that just wants to end.
In fact making a Bloodborne 2 as a clear and official sequel would be antithetical to some of the themes of the game. Case in point: the player is an addict. The player craves thrilling game experiences delivered by a game developer. Give the player an infinite dungeon generation system (the Labyrinth / Chalice Dungeons) and it's still not enough - they want another hit of the exact same experience but more of it. So, is it ethical to enable an addict? More bosses, more locations, more weapons, but the same aesthetic, same mechanics, same world. And how do you build upon the story when the players never understood what you were trying to say with the art in the first place?
That's a problem with Bloodborne - players have had 10 years and only in very small corners of the fandom are the deeper story and its themes being unraveled. The idea of beasts evolving to resist cosmic entities (as complement to cosmic entities being manufactured from humans to suppress beasts, as seen in Iosefka's clinic and the Living Failures) is something that ji_mothy observes in his "Bloodborne as Miyazaki Intended". The way that the aesthetics take heavy inspiration from the diseases, medical practices, and societal issues of the Victorian era are examined by Charred Thermos. I've written many words about how Bloodborne is structured as both a murder mystery and a contemplation of how artistic dreams and ambitions deteriorate into nightmares.
Personally, I also believe there is an allegory developed here for the exploration of the mystical concept of man as microcosm whose health is at the whims of God Almighty, and how this clashes with the horrifying discovery of bacteria and germ theory. I would recommend "Everything is Tuberculosis" by John Green as further reading following the Charred Thermos series. It's not a book about Bloodborne, but it does add more historical context about how treatment of disease has evolved from the Victorian era through to the present day.
Through a thematic lens, Elden Ring is already a sequel to Bloodborne. It pays off the themes of achieving higher understanding and becoming a Great One capable of escaping the nihilism of the time loop. And there is a high chance that the Duskbloods will be a sequel as well, in the opposite way of being further trapped by cyclical time. Like a timeline reset showing the what-if scenario where the snake eats its own tail and the loop begins again. Some of the aesthetics are the same, but others have changed with the new iteration. Some of the mechanics are similar, but others are testing out different ways for players to interact with each other.
The first key graphical symbol associated with the game is a wheel with 12 spokes - same as the numbers on a clock face.
Tumblr media
For my guess: the story of Bloodborne begins in the hours of Dusk - hence "Duskblood" picks up on this thread. And the vibes are vampiric with a stronger focus on PVP action because the players who call the loudest for "Bloodborne 2" or "Bloodborne Remastered" seem to be the least interested in self-reflection (a think that vampires cannot do) or of understanding the meaning conveyed through the complex and densely layered single-player art piece that they have already been given. Which would likely make The Duskbloods an experiment aimed at creating a different type of video game product to cater to a different type of person.

cion is basically a datapack creator which like. in universe i would put as very like, by the book "magic", usually stuck in the confines of what makes sense in the world and altering things that already exist.
and seren is a wannabe modder which means he just makes stuff happen. it does not have to make sense. vwoop is held together with craft glue and popsicle sticks

Doc - Current
I have a bunch of details about his backstory but I'll save that for next time because I feel like it might be better organizationally to separate that out. So!
Doc is a humanoid. He used to be fully human - more on that in the upcoming backstory post - but now he's functionally fully a creeper hybrid. His face mostly looks like it did before he got hybridized, just... green and furry; the exceptions being his organic eye, which is fully really dark now (he doesn't know how that happened. Creepers don't even HAVE eyes), and his mouth, which is always turned slightly down at the corners even when he smiles. (I also really wanna give him sharp teef but I can't justify that with the way my creeper headcanons work. I can barely justify the eye. Maybe he made that modification for fun separately and later idk) Also his hands have claws instead of nails now.
Creeper fur is incredibly soft, somewhere between moss and thick grass, to allow for silent movement. Doc's gotten a little vain about his fur, even though he hardly ever lets people touch it anyway.
The fur gives him extra sensitivity to how his clothes feel. He owns like two pairs of pants and has worn them ragged because he hasn't found anything else that feels as good. He doesn't like wearing shirts tighter than the loose labcoat. He'll do it for The Bit (usually The Bit is attempted intimidation), but anything other than his normal clothes is usually not comfortable enough to wear for more than a couple hours. His feet also got a little mutated by his hybridization and don't work with most human shoes. Doc went barefoot 100% of the time for years until he discovered one shoe type that was wide enough and shapeless enough to be comfortable: the humble Crocs.
His robotic eye has some fun extra functions! It has a heat vision mode and a zoom; he can also press a button to detach the actual seeing part of it on a little device to fly around like a mini camera drone. (That part's a bit of a holdover from when Doc was like the only hermit using the freecam mod; the camera starts out inside the person's head, so it felt right to make it his eye.) The heat vision and zoom used to have buttons as well, but over time he's learned to switch those two fully mentally.
His arm doesn't have any super funky swiss army knife attachments, but he does keep a mini repair kit in a hidden chamber in there (that idea is shamelessly stolen from @sycon-senti) and metal claws to match the natural ones on his other hand. He's had to do some upgrades here and there to environment-proof his arm against stuff like dirt and sand.
The horns are totally artificial and by choice. Well, the one on the right side might have been grown, but the one on the left at least was built onto his faceplate. Why? The aesthetic.

i think its kinda funny that ibis paint is regarded as the Broke Artist App or whatever (as opposed to more mainstream programs like csp or procreate) because its free and because of how popular it is with phone + finger artists while im jusg sitting here having used ibis for a cool eight years on purpose.
like i have an ipad and an apple pencil and all theyre very nice and i absolutely could move to a more powerful program i have the resources to do so but my change averse brain has decided they like it here a lot and im not leaving
Tumblr media
#not talking smack on phone and finger artists btw. some of my mutuals use their fingers and their art goes crazy i respect that so much#even when i did use my phone (most of 14 crush was done on a phone!) i still had to use a cheap rubber stylus hahaha#anyway maybe ill try procreate someday but also i hate learning new programs and i like ibis's brushes too much#fingers crossed that they add fully custom brushes someday though#like id love to be one of those artists that makes really cool art with ridiculous shapes and nobody even knows until they tell you#younger artists might not know this but modern ibis is STACKED compared to how it was in 2015#like i remember when clipping layers were first implemented. and they sucked. like they didnt fully go over the lower layer#so it just left a gross tiny outline around the shape#and there wasnt any border or text tools either#and there was a hard cap on layer count depending on your device's storage and the canvas size#modifying brushes wasnt even a thing HAHAHAHAH you just used what you had#anyway okiku reference window unrelated shes just there for something else im working on<3#bri talks#for the record all this is to say i think the smack talk towards ibis is pretty unwarranted#like yeah maybe its not as powerful as a lot of these fancy paid apps but i honestly think its insanely good for being a free program#i think getting rid of the ads costs more now than it did when i paid to get rid of them but i mean#free with ads is still a lot more than csp's ever gonna give you!!!!#(psst. secret from me to you! you wont get any ads if you disable the app's data usage and turn off wifi when you use it)#(alternatively just use airplane mode but you can still get texts and stuff the first way)

I once had a person cc the boss in the email where I was going ''I'm not supposed to do this, it's against the rules, but do [action for solution]'' to complain why I couldn't do it every time.
I almost throttled her. I JUST told you I'm not supposed to do that why would you specifically tell my boss I did.
Luckily for me the boss' instructions actually were ''whatever solves the initial problem as an easy solution multiplied by thousands of people is a pain in the ass for us'' but I was PISSED. Why the fuck did she have to go and say ''she broke the rules once why can't you let her do it every time''.
If a worker who isn't the owner says ANYTHING similar to "I'm not really supposed to do this but-" and then does something that helps you, under no circumstances inform the business, including through reviews. You tell them that the worker was polite, professional, the very model of customer service and why you like to go there. You do not breathe a word of the rulebreaking.

So, Discord has added a feature that lets other people "enhance" or "edit" your images with different AI apps. It looks like this:
Tumblr media
Currently, you can't opt out from this at all. But here's few things you can do as a protest.
FOR SERVERS YOU ARE AN ADMIN IN
Go to Roles -> @/everyone roles -> Scroll all the way down to External Apps, and disable it. This won't delete the option, but it will make people receive a private message instead when they use it, protecting your users:
Tumblr media
You should also make it a bannable offense to edit other user's images with AI. Here's how I worded it in my server, feel free to copypaste:
Do not modify other people's images with AI under ANY circumstances, such as with the Discord "enhancement" features, amidst others. This is a bannable offense.
COMPLAIN TO DISCORD
There's few ways to go around this. First, you can go to https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/requests/new , select Help and Support -> Feedback/New Feature Request, and write your message, as seen in the screenshot below.
Tumblr media
For the message, here's some points you can bring up:
Concerns about harassment (such as people using this feature to bully others)
Concerns about privacy (concerns on how External Apps may break privacy or handle the data in the images, and how it may break some legislations, such as GDPR)
Concerns about how this may impact minors (these features could be used with pictures of irl minors shared in servers, for deeply nefarious purposes)
BE VERY CLEAR about "I will refuse to buy Nitro and will cancel my subscription if this feature remains as it is", since they only care about fucking money
Word them as you'd like, add onto them as you need. They sometimes filter messages that are copypasted templates, so finding ways to word them on your own is helpful.
ADDING: You WILL NEED to reply to the mail you receive afterwards for the message to get sent to an actual human! Otherwise it won't reach anyone
UNSUSCRIBE FROM NITRO
This is what they care about the most. Unsuscribe from Nitro. Tell them why you unsuscribed on the way out. DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY. They're a company. They take actions for profit. If these actions do not get them profit, they will need to backtrack. Mass-unsuscribing from WOTC's DnD beyond forced them to back down with the OGL, this works.
LEAVE A ONE-STAR REVIEW ON THE APP
This impacts their visibility on the App store. Write why are you leaving the one-star review too.
_
Regardless of your stance on AI, I think we can agree that having no way for users to opt out of these pictures is deeply concerning, specially when Discord is often used to share selfies. It's also a good time to remember internet privacy and safety- Maybe don't post your photos in big open public servers, if you don't want to risk people doing edits or modifications of them with AI (or any other way). Once it's posted, it's out of your control.
Anyways, please reblog for visibility- This is a deeply concerning topic!
