Well fam we back at it again! Time for some more Molly progress! I decided I wanted to use my millinery skills for this because I don't like working with foams or glues so I endeavored to find a way to sew these pieces. In true experimental fashion this first take doesn't look like what I want bit it also shows that my idea works! I just need to go back to the pattern to give it a little more shape so I am happier. I had to go back and take apart my right leg because I decided I did not like how the slashed puff was empty, so I made a puff to go in my puff. I used 2 layers of silk organza for extra body for the taffeta portion of the puff. Having reassembled that piece, I am much happier with it. Molly truly a project of "more is more" and "if you don't like it, fix it...or you will regret it." It definitely keeps adding time to this project, but I'm not going anywhere fast and making things keeps the existential thoughts at bay...so here we are! - Also, even though I'm starting to post my own things, I'm going to keep using my stories as an avenue to share information about what is going on with the Black Lives Matters movement as well as sharing Black and other POC cosplayers and artists who inspire me as time goes on. I've begun the tedious process of putting together all of the bias sections for the right leg. I'm starting with the pieces that wont have piping because...well I wanted to sew and one of the pipings is gonna be a pain because its gonna be out of silk velvet. I do have to recut a piece already, but thankfully it's just this tiny piece. I forgot I wanted the the edges that are in the main let's seam allowance open. Mostly because there aren't a lot of pieces that end up falling that way, but I'll be more vigilant on the next pieces. Well, I got sent home from work(not because I am sick, but because of self distancing) so time to make a tail I guess! I spent yesterday making a mock-up of my full Molly tail and that net me a pattern that literally has 19 separate unique pieces. Because they are basically stacked cones it wiggles with out the extra skeletal set-up I will be using, so I am incredibly excited that what I planned is working! Molly shirt progress! Planning and cutting out all of these lace appliques has taken me a million years. But I'm currently sewing them on and I'm very happy with them. They are definitely the most time consuming portion of the shirt, which is a fairly straight forward pattern. BUT MOLLY IS EXTRA AND DESERVES TO LOOK EXTRA. I've been slowly trucking along on Molly. But I finished my bralette this past weekend. It's not a lot but I'm very happy with how it turned out. I'm still of the mind it needs to be blinged out a little bit, especially since the point is for it to be seen under my shirt. I'm really happy I splurged for the lingerie elastic from @sashafox_sewing_supplies, totally worth it! They also shipped really quickly and have a variety of pretty colors! The pattern was an alteration on the free @mmadalynne Sierra bralette. The fabric is another use of stash fabric and old costume fabric. I am so excited to be working on my coat embroidery! I am doing a lot of the bigger pieces as appliques so I don't have to embroider the entire field of each thing. But I love my big moth and had to start with him! I have this beautiful ribbed silk that has a nice moire on the face.
