MWW Artwork of the Day (4/15/20) Emile-Antoine Bourdelle (French, 1861-1929) Hercules Killing the Birds of Lake Stymphalis (1909) Gilded bronze statue, 248 x 247 x 123 cm. Musée d'Orsay, Paris
Trained first in Montauban and then in Toulouse, Bourdelle started work as an assistant in Rodin's studio. The two men were bound together by mutual admiration and respect, even if Bourdelle's desire for synthesis and construction in planes soon opposed him to Rodin's analytical modelling.   He looked to mythology for many of his subjects such as "Hercules the Archer" which enabled him to experiment on a large scale. In his own terms, Apollo was "undertaken in an attempt to master the purest aspect of my deep vision, going far beyond all past flights, I brought to it -– more than human blood, bone, cartilage and muscles -– the enveloping structure of its forces."
Not only the hero's victory over the monsters, but also Bourdelle's victory over his own high-spirited inspiration, this work is remarkable both for its tension and for its balanced construction. The dynamics come from the interaction of solids and voids, brutal force and balance. The nude figure denotes power, high-strung energy, pulled taut between the arm bending the bow and the foot braced against the rock. The references to primitive Greek sculpture and Roman art –- the almond shaped eyes, the nose extending in a straight line from the forehead, jutting cheekbones and brows –- act as catalyst for a modern approach. (translated from the Musée website)

Three friends, a photographer, an ethologist and a farmer, went on a trip to visit the Ardennes. “I’m Renaud de Montauban, you’ll be Guichard and Richardet”, the photographer decided,  “ but we’re missing Allard and our magical horse.”
“... how is it possible for a horse to understand human speech and adjust it’s size to it’s riders? And what is the functional value of such abilities?” The ethologist got curious, alternating his gaze between the ridiculously huge formation of rocks next to the river Meuse and the dirty seat covers of the 1998 Renault Clio.
When they arrived at the Eau d’Heure Lakes, they rented two jet skis. The photographer and the ethologist went together, as they wanted to pursue their discussion a little further, while the farmer didn’t care too much and enjoyed bullying a child on an inflatable pig.

The third day - 17th of July.
The trip was from Nantes to Montauban - a little North of Toulouse.
That trip was very harder than we thought - it was the longest km we have planned for the whole trip - about 550 km. This trip wasplannes to be around 5 hours but was much longer than anticipated - approx 7-8 hours with breaks. So we actually did see the mechanical elephant in Nantes, arrived at Montauban in cabins beside a lake - around 9.30 at night - the kids enjoyed the sunset swimming by the Lake before we went to our cabins very tired - that day I could drive for a couple of hours bc of heatstroke - awful. But I was myself again after a couple of hours with a not of water and soda, remembering to have some salty snacks and candy (it helps to stay hydrated).
The day after we the 18th of July - we went to Colombiers not far from Beziers - Very very beautiful town - a little north of Carcasonne not far from the Riviera and about 2 hours from the spanish border.
This place was one of my favourite - it was amazing place this with big hills and some mountains at the trip. Beziers was an beautiful and amazing town - would have stayed there for a longer time if it was possible - the city reminded me of a scene from Game of Thrones.
We went to the place we have ordered - it was Vacanceole - a place that was closed all around it - looked like a little village - perfect spot for kids 👌🏽 there was a outdoor pool and playgroumd for kids.
That day we where early - the trip from Montauban was only 217 km and was approx 3 hours with break.
We went shopping for food in Beziers and cooked for ourselves at our place - very relaxing and perfect for kids to make new friends.
We highly recommend Vacanceole for families. The houses was big - and comfortable, but was too hot to stay for a longer period with no aircondition, but it was safe enough to have the Windows open and they had a fan. Overall this place was great if you just sleep on the ground not in 1th floor.
These days was one of my favourite days 👌🏽
