This is the first episode where Georgia and Monty appear. As of this episode, none of the remaining four main characters of the initial cast are hired through the usual means.

This is the first episode Landon speaks since his debut and the first episode to give Elroy extended dialogue.

This episode reveals ICT is government funded.

This is Ingrid’s first speaking appearance since “Sore Losers” and Gordon’s first since “Onward and Upward”.

This marks the debut of Elroy’s bodyguards, Chuck and Ralph.

At least one Drewman of every color type appears.

Rudy and Eloise never appear in their normal outfits.

Development

Monty was another character who changed relatively little in the long run. He bares similarities to who would later become minor character Clover, but he was developed independent to her. He’s probably the character who was most visibly aged up for ICT, growing far taller, wearing a watch and wedding ring, and having a much more conniving look about him.

Since Simone isn’t a main character and hasn’t changed at all since conception, I’ll cover her a little, too. I liked the juxtaposition of cool mint and spicy cinnamon together, so I came up with the idea of Monty having a girlfriend (now wife) with cinnamon as her color theme. Monty being a more important character directly makes Simone a more prominent one as well, her and Monty’s turbulent but passionate relationship being a fun contrast to Gordon and Violet’s more lighthearted and sweet one.

Part two of my character dynamics mini-series: Tanner and Monty!

Compared to yesterday’s power trio, these two are more straightforward. It’s basically Ed and Eddy, but if Eddy was slightly more patient and if Ed was slightly smarter. The fact people like Tanner means that he’s usually great at drumming up business, and Monty can respect that he at least tries to carry out his orders.

Here Comes the Money

Master of the get rich quick scheme, Monty has his eyes on the prize at all times. It’s Color Theory is only the latest of the many careers and business ventures he’s held over the years in his master plan to claw his way to the top of the social scale. He has absolutely zero qualms about doing potentially humiliating things for cash; the only thing holding him back is his millimeter-long fuse.

Fun Facts

Monty’s surname is doubly a play on “sundae” and Saturday.

Monty was originally far more squat and lacked his irises, lashes, and highly stylized eye bags. Given that most of the characters were initially conceived as teens, one could read this as his actual appearance at this age.

Monty is one of VERY few characters without a defined neck.

Monty was initially envisioned as one of the smallest characters. While he still only stands at eye level with Ivan (navy blue), he was significantly scaled up with a longer torso and limbs.

Monty’s color code is a play on how a “mint” is a place where money is coined or simply a large amount of it.

Monty is the only main or major character with a watch as part of their regular wardrobe.

Monty’s cent sign pupils aren’t a stylistic choice. He’s just really goal focused.
