The Philatelist

A brief character in Moomin and the Comet, he is a direct reference to Mr. Hemulen's introduction scene in Comet in Moominland, a stamp collector who had his collection ruined from the evacuation and not caring much about the Comet itself, only lamenting his grief at the sudden disorganization of his precious stamps.

The Botanist

A one-off character from the comic Moominvalley Turns Jungle and then replaced by Mr. Hemulen in the 90s adaptation, he is a single-minded man who only cares to study the plants which had suddenly grown around Moominhouse. Once the man-eating... Things become a major point, he advocates that they're actually plants rather than the animals his rival claims them to be.

In summary; strange adaptation of Comet in Moominland.

Near the end, everyone from the Moomin family plus some pisciculturist Hemulen and a very small ghost huddle up in Moominhouse wearing pots and pans as helmets and listening to the radio just as the Comet is about to strike.

The thing I wanna note is that like???? Apparently Moomin Valley has an anthem???

Also the instead of the Comet missing the Earth it hits a very convenient tidal wave which created a very deep hole. Very wacky.

Many, many, many, many, many hours later, my capstone project is complete: a mall full of my favorite guys!

Not gonna wax too poetic about my creative process because that's what the artist statement is for, but I will say that this was the most involved, ambitious, and creatively fulfilling piece I've ever gotten to do. OCs, cartoon characters, video game protagonists, DnD player characters, we've got it all here! Each of these characters is special to me in one way or another, and I had an absolute blast cramming them all into one canvas.

Tumblr got nowhere near displaying the full image so I had to condense the hell out of it to get the whole thing on there. If you want a closeup of any character in full resolution just sent me an ask! I would love to hold my little guys up to the camera for you :)

And yeah I'm gonna tag every piece of media represented. If you're seeing this in your tag, one of your fellas is in here somewhere!

I still need to watch it but it's so funny to me that in the stop motion Moomins and the Comet Chase, Sniff is voiced by Mads Mikkelsen. Hannibal and Clifford Unger himself was just the perfect actor to play Sniff, the little creature. When I first saw the trailer I thought it was weird he didn't have a nasally voice like in the anime but that fact is so funny it's worth it.

The Pisciculturist

A character replacing the role of Mr. Hemulen's cousin and the end role of Mr. Hemulen himself in Moomin and the Comet (an odd reimagining of Comet in Moominland in comic strip form), he is a pisciculturist looking to collect fish specimens wherever he can, but gets interrupted and grows to dislike Moomin, Snorkmaiden and Little My in particular. He gets swept up in a storm and huddles up with the Moomin family to brace for the Comet's impact, only to go outside for between after the Comet collided with a tsunami and created a big crater.

i love snufkin and moomins can first meeting it is SOOO cute and i also love how much more eccentric and silly snufkin is in this book like hes just so excited to meet his future situationship look at him
