Promises (Ole Munch x Reader)

warnings: canon-typical violence/minors DNI.

no-pressure tags: @bjorntobemild @ahsfan23 @gggoldfinch @shiversdownyerspine and anyone else in need of protection from the cold.

❤️‍🩹 "a man will never touch you without your consent." this is the first promise he makes you, if not also the only one for a very long time.

❤️‍🩹  in response, you promise him a house and almost everything within it.

❤️‍🩹  everything except going inside your room, which includes leaving the door closed while you're away. (he never opens it.)

❤️‍🩹 instead, he's curiously all too happy to pick up anything and everything you don't want for yourself.

❤️‍🩹 can't finish your breakfast? no problem, he'll finish it for you.

❤️‍🩹 did your favorite shirt accidentally get dyed in the wash? he'll wear it.

❤️‍🩹 have you lost interest in something you were going to read for a book club, but never quite got into it? he'll take it.

❤️‍🩹 this goes on for about a week or so, but then you decide to take things just a little further. in other words, one afternoon, you pull the door to your room open wide, and motion for him to join you.

❤️‍🩹 although neither of you are able to 'jump to conclusions', you do, however, push past your collective fear to hold one another's hand for the first time. neither of you let go until you are ready, after which the both of you are the most relaxed as you can remember.

❤️‍🩹 however.

❤️‍🩹 the uneasy peace between you gets broken by the return of your ex.

❤️‍🩹 the particular ex that just happens to not enjoy a stranger poking around what they consider to be theirs, and theirs alone...including you.

❤️‍🩹 and right now, they're promising trouble if this "new guy" doesn't clear out in the next ten minutes, fullstop. trouble that could easily find its way to you as well, whether you courted it in any way or not.

❤️‍🩹 and yet...a man is not done making his promises to you, because all three of you don't dare to look away as he reaches for the axe.

❤️‍🩹 after all...the man lives here now.

Things the Fargo finale kind-of left me hanging on:

What prison sentence did Karen get? Accessory and attempted murder?

What happened to the twins? Foster system, I'm assuming.

Not that I give a crap about Odin, but his grave?

What about Linda's? I'm assuming they found her body.

What about Danish's? I think he deserves a proper burial.

Gator's prison sentence? What did he get charged with. Accessory? Sure he accidentally killed Irma but were there any witnesses to that? Maybe he confessed.

If Oola doesn't eat anything but sin, why did he want pancakes?

There's probably other things but those are the things bothering me for now.

Okay, so this post keeps crossing my dash, and I tried to bully the Discord into writing a Wolfstar fic for it, only to accidentally end up writing Prongsfoot for it myself instead 🤦‍♂️ I blame @theresthesnitch​.

“You’re sure you have everything?”

Teddy rolled his eyes. “Yeah, Padfoot, I’ve got everything.”

Sirius crossed his arms, aiming a stern look at his godson. “You left your packing until an hour ago, so forgive me if I’m a bit skeptical.”

“If I left anything, you can just send it through the Floo, it’s not a big deal.”

“Maybe I’ll just keep it for myself.”

Teddy shrugged. “That’s fine, Papa will just buy it for me again. He’s rich, you know.”

“Oi!” Sirius reached up to ruffle Teddy’s blue curls, and the boy ducked away from him. “Don’t let Da hear you say that, brat. When did you turn into a teenager?”

“Three years ago, when I turned thirteen.”

“Two minutes!” Stan called from the door of the Knight Bus. Teddy’s luggage was already on board, so he picked up his smaller bag and slung it over his shoulder. Sirius felt a familiar pang behind his sternum. Teddy had spent one month with him every summer since he turned six, giving Remus and Kingsley a break while Sirius got to relentlessly spoil his godson. Teddy would be an adult by this time next year, graduated from Hogwarts and off on his next adventure. Who knew if he even wanted to spend time with Uncle Sirius after that?

“Stop that,” Teddy said, poking him in the side. Other passengers were saying their goodbyes and boarding the Knight Bus. “I’ll see you at the station on September first, yeah? And I’ll be home for Christmas. Besides, you’ll be so busy with your little rascals once school starts again that you won’t even miss me.” 

“You were one of those little rascals once, you know.” Sirius had been teaching at a magical nursery school for--Merlin, for almost twenty years now. He loved his babies to pieces, though now he felt painfully old. Where had the time gone? 

“Yeah, and I was a menace.”

“A very cute menace, though.” Sirius hugged Teddy one last time. “Travel safe, and call me through the mirror as soon as you’re home. Oh, and give your da a kiss from me.”

Teddy pulled back, a mischievous glint in his eye. “But not Papa?”

“Your papa can have a kiss from me when he sends me the Galleons he owes me from last week’s match.” 

Teddy was the last passenger on the bus. The doors closed, and Sirius raised his hand to wave as the engine roared to life. A few other wixen who had come to see loved ones off were also waving. 

“Say bye, bus!” Sirius said cheerfully, as the Knight Bus disappeared with a loud pop. 

“Bye, bus!” someone next to him said. 

Sirius froze. Oh, no. Two decades spent teaching little ones had instilled some ridiculous habits in him, like speaking cheerfully to inanimate objects and encouraging others to do the same.

Slowly, he turned to face the person who had unwittingly bade the bus goodbye, and found himself face-to-face with a man whose expression looked as mortified as he imagined his own did. 

“Er,” Sirius said lamely. “I teach toddlers.” 

“I have a six-year-old,” the man said. 

And then, they both burst out laughing. 

“I can’t believe I said that,” Sirius wheezed. “Oh, Merlin.”

“Do you--do you do that with everything?” the man cackled. “Do you say goodbye to cars too? What about broomsticks?”

“Stop it.” Sirius covered his burning face with his hands. 

“Do you talk to food while you’re cooking? ‘Hello, Mr. Tomato, are you ready to be chopped into tiny pieces today?’”

“You cannot tell anyone this happened,” Sirius said, lifting his head. “I’m going to make you swear an Unbreakable Vow.” 

The man’s laughter tapered off, though he kept chuckling, and he lifted his glasses to wipe his eyes. He had a mop of dark, messy hair on his head, brown skin, and a build like a professional Quidditch player. In short, he was fit, and Sirius’s heart tripped in his chest. 

The man put his glasses back on and considered Sirius, his eyes flicking from Sirius’s feet all the way up to his hair. 

“I might be persuaded to keep your secret,” the man said, “if you buy me a cup of coffee.” 

Sirius’s heart beat faster. Was he really--? 

“Thought you said you’ve got a kid,” he said cautiously.

“Divorced,” the man said. “You?”

“Single.”

“Great!” The man stuck out his hand. “I’m James.”

“Sirius, like the star.” 

James’s hand was warm, his grip firm. A shiver went down Sirius’s spine. What was wrong with him? Getting all flustered over a handshake. He wasn’t fourteen anymore! 

“Coffee, then?” 

Sirius grinned. “Coffee it is.”

What's your opinion in the rise of Kingsley ships?

I'm struggling to stray away from my love of Wolfstar.

Ah, I’m a multi-shipper at heart, so I can’t deny that I love tossing Kingsley in the mix. However, I’m wolfstar trash at heart.

Wolfstar and Jily will always have my heart as my OTPs, but they’re my little paper dolls and I love shoving them together and seeing what comes out the other side. The thing about multi shipping is I don’t have to pick just one. It’s not Starking to the exclusion of Wolfstar. It’s a little bit of both. It’s let sixteen year old Sirius fall for the quiet boy with the books and the scars in this fic, then have Azkaban escapee Sirius hide out as a lovable stray dog with the Auror who is in charge of tracking him down and accidentally catching feelings.

(This is not to say that anyone is wrong for OTP shipping everyone. There’s something just as beautiful about having a one true love when no one else matters as there is with playing paper dolls with them all.)

Now, for me, for any of James and Remus and Sirius to be shipped together, the other can’t be sad and pining. I don’t want Moonchaser with Sirius looking on sad and wondering why his friends don’t want him. I don’t want Prongsfoot with Remus thinking they don’t want him because he’s a monster. So if I’m going to ship them, I need the third to either be (a) ace/aro, or (b) happily committed to someone else. Kingsley is great for that.

As far as the specific ships you mentioned, I adore Starking. I’ve written them as a background ship before — Black Ties and White Lies is Moonchaser with background Starking, and while Sirius hasn’t made an on screen appearance yet, Lessons in Defense has background Starking as well. I’ve also got two Starking main pairing fics coming out in @hpknotfest — Knot the Minister and Knot in my Job Description. (Keep an eye out when that starts posting on Feb 1). I also will never be over postcard from Paris by @greyeyedmonster-18, which is a lovely depiction of Starking.

As for Remus/Kingsley…… eh. I think my HC of Kingsley would never put up with Remus. I think they’d hook up and maybe even date, but I don’t see that going anywhere. I also don’t think Remus would particularly enjoy dating Kingsley, and especially not if he’s an Auror. I’ve definitely written them hooking up though. See Watchdog and…. Well, my third knot fest fic, which doesn’t have a title yet. Neither have a primary ship of Remus/Kingsley, but they do have some fun.

Regardless, Anon, I don’t think you have to like Starking just because they’re going through a bit of a popularity sweep right now. Even though I’ve written two and a……sixth Kingsley/some amount of wolfstar recently, doesn’t mean I’m writing any less Wolfstar. Wolfstar is just too delicious to let go of, even if I let them venture out every once in a while. (That two and a sixth figure will make sense later. 😂)
