If it weren’t for the ramshackle remains of what seem to be dens, Buzzardfur wouldn’t believe a living cat had ever set foot in the clearing. As he takes a few tentative pawsteps in, an inexplicable sense of … something presses onto him, not quite dread but certainly not comfort. He’s never seen something like this before, a barren land that nonetheless was certainly lived in—empty, yet somehow teeming with life. No, he muses, life-after-death would be more accurate.

“I can’t believe it’s real,” he mumbles, nigh inaudible. “I thought it … I thought they were just some old queen’s tale.” He turns to look at Bouncerumble, who’d come to a stop at the lip of the clearing. “How did you know?”

“The same way I know anything. StarClan’s sign.” Bouncerumble’s voice is clipped, a bit too fast, but who could blame them? Buzzardfur himself isn’t particularly calm, either. “They wanted us to find this. I think … to start WaspClan anew.”

“Start it anew?” Runningripple asks, speaking up from the back of the group. “Why not leave it in the past? That Clan ate itself from the inside out, didn’t it?”

“I heard the last leader’s mate was killed, and she went mad with grief.” Shiveringkit’s little voice is far too bright a chirp for the severity of her words. “I heard she made the other cats practice with their claws out. She even poisoned some of them!”

“Actually, they weren’t mates; Bunnystar was just in love-”

“Stop it, Moorpaw,” Buzzardfur says, and his apprentice falls silent. “We can’t let ourselves get carried away with rumors. We don’t know what happened here, just that it was some clan’s camp. And if Bouncerumble says this is where we should be …”

“Then we should stay here,” Runningripple finishes, padding up to stand beside him. “It’s got more than enough space for us, and StarClan knows Thornstar is too logical to take us back.” She says it with derision, and Buzzardfur can’t help but agree—surely there was a better way to solve an overpopulation crisis than to cast out some of his own cats. “Is everyone in agreement?”

There are some grumblings from the rest of the clan—if it can be called that—but none of them have anything to say, even Hailbark, who always seems to have a gloomy remark in her mouth. 

“Right, then,” Buzzardfur says, and sighs. Thank StarClan Runningripple is taking the lead; he doubts he could have wrangled them the same way as she does. Why they all elected him leader is beyond him. 

He’s taken a few more steps toward the smallest den, nestled in the hollow of a dead tree, before something occurs to him. “What do we call ourselves?”

Bouncerumble’s voice doesn’t hold a hint of uncertainty as they say, “I told you—we’re WaspClan.” 

Buzzardfur turns it over and over in his head. How could they become WaspClan? WaspClan was just a story to scare kits—why would they ever want to be that? The concept fills him with dread, as if the name itself is cursed. But who is he to question StarClan? Who is he to do anything? “Right,” he says finally. “We’re … we’re WaspClan.”

Also I kinda messed up the apprentices, Halfpaw has Morningwisp and Hyacinth has Aphidheather, but for the story it doesn’t really matter.

day 1 of drawing all the battle cats as warrior cats

i feel like the normal cats are a large dynastic group that rules the clan and everyone's kind of tired of them but they still have the most power, so.

name: moorpaw, probably, with the promised warrior name of moorhawk. despite being an apprentic they're insufferable and everyone kind of knows that they're a nepo baby. their chin scar is due to their meatshield status and also the fact that they're kinda cocky (they got it from tripping and falling on a rock)

decided to go with dolphinkit for this one

- dolphinkit was born to the leader of bayclan, mintstar, alongside her brothers moorkit, weaselkit, and sharpkit

- her kithood was largely normal until she was four moons old, when her mother lost all nine of her lives in a terrible flood, leaving her kits as young orphans

- dolphinkit was struck the hardest by her loss, and grieved for a long time

- and just as things were looking brighter, tragedy struck again

- moorpaw was recruited by the dark forest at a young age. he would often wake up screaming

- and one morning he didn’t wake up at all. he was killed in a dark forest training exercise

- again, dolphinpaw was affected the most out of any of her siblings

- she spent many more moons grieving her brother

- however, the new leader, baobeistar, took a special interest in her and helped her earn her warrior name on time, despite the many moons she spent grieving

- she was given the name dolphinspot

- her life has been largely uninteresting now that she has her warrior name, though

- but she does currently have a crush on fellow warrior sageblaze, and he seems to return it! so they may become mates in the future

unless something extremely interesting happens to her, i’m going to shift my focus to a new main character, barnaclekit! he was found abandoned as a newborn and was raised in the clan

She simply did what she needed to do. That was what she told herself as she held a struggling mollie face-first into the bog.

“You shoulda known better than to hit the wee thing,” She murmured, glancing over to where her three youngsters comforted a trembling scrap of fluff. She frowned and pushed down harder. “Maybe you don’t remember being that small, but I do.” A further shove into the water. “No one helps you when you’re just a wee one, but that’s about to change.”

She dragged the she-cat up just to hiss in her ear. “You really shoulda known better.”

Unfortunately, she also should’ve known that a warrior like Deerleg wouldn’t go out without taking her killer with her.

Chervilcry (79) was caught speaking with a cat from another TulipClan, outside of her Mediator duties.  Yuccastar (79) is furious due to their recent war and forbids anyone from being friendly with the other Clans.  ElementClan needs to make a show of strength and independence.  They also welcome Chasingskip (12) as a new warrior, in honor of her observance.  She’s glad to be out of the apprentices’ den, but feels a little bad leaving Moorpaw (12) as the only warrior apprentice.  Chervilcry and Stonefreckle (8) are proud of their kit.  She’s come so far from the boisterous kit she used to be.  She might even be a bit too quiet now. . .Caterpillarmallow (50) wishes that she would get more credit for her efforts in the Healer's den.  She feels like Rosemaryquake (57) ignores just how hard she works, maybe because her powers are so weak.  But she proved her skills during the war while Rosemaryquake was sick, didn’t she!  Darkpetal (139) thinks so, and thanks the Healer for her service. Another loner brings kits with them; Feather, and his two kits, Stagkit and Silkkit.

Apparently Birdfrost is a better mentor than Blotchleaf, since Moorpaw is now dead after Blotchleaf tried teaching him to chase off a badger. How wonderful.

Redpaw caught a rabbit in Slopeclan's territory. No wonder Slopeclan hates Birdclan. Birdfrost says nothing.

I'd like to make a note that Yellowdust is a ginger point, and his name is 'Yellow-'. We love that for him.

Algaestem adopts a kit. Her name is Gullkit and she is absolutely adorable!

ufo cat! originally wanted to call it something like birdflight, but instead went for Farfetch, to reference mistaken UFO sightings/conspiracies, and also the bird pokémon.

senior warrior, pretty chill and aloof. very good at combat. is perfectly qualified for deputy but doesn't have a leading bone in their body. favorite child is Moorpaw simply because they're the only one still shorter than them.
