btw. your search for the most morally upright and ethical piece of media that has the most correct “representation” will destroy your ability to find the most profound and beautiful and human of stories. and may even destroy the stories themselves before they are created. if you even care.

I have a germ of a theory that good Christian fiction has stories that are less about shaving down your personality to meet some specific mold of what a good Christian looks like, and more about "how gloriously different are all the saints."
Not that the Christian life doesn't involve fighting against our own sinful nature and conforming ourselves to Christ-like behavior, but I think it makes for better, more realistic, and more universal stories when you also recognize that people have different gifts and flaws and they're going to be called to use their unique personalities to serve the kingdom of God in their own unique way, instead of assuming everyone has to conform themselves to a very specific (often secular-culturally based) image of good behavior. It makes for a much more vibrant story.

More Cabin 5/Children of Ares Headcanons
When their father saves them/gives a helping hand when they're in trouble, Ares would never admit to helping them. But their children naturally know since they can feel his presence. So they get children embarrassed of having their own god-parent help them, but thank him.
When they’re not training, they take care of their hands and feet. They get bruised up a lot during practice and endless marathon tunning or PE.
They hate it when their hair cant be put into a proper ponytail and have cried in anger out of it and hit thenselves with their hairbrush.
Most of the time, they cried when they're frustrated: which is an emotion they feel the most. They usually dobt feel angry very often-especially without any reason. Lets end tbe stereotype that they all have abger issues and insyead say they feel more entitled to intense emotions most if the time bc of their energetic nature that they got from their father.
But some of them do have anger issues. But anger issues isn't just screajing and hurting objects. It can be isolation for long periods of time, bc they’re afraid of hurting othera hut mowtly because they get tired of if their own emotions so they would like to shut down instead of dealing with it. Feeling that nobody actually likes you is an insecurity many of them have, which do make them reactive from time to time.
Ares is one if the few Gods that respond the fastest ti any request. Clarisse asked for a submarine and an army, and Ares delivered it pretty quickly. Any weapons they want to make Hephaestus make, Ares will send a message to the God and put it as "priority".
Children of Ares will often hyperanalyze their emotions until they dont feel anything because theyre so used to feeling TOO MUCH, that they have learned how to switch off their emotions.
They joined the battle against Kronos only because they had a heavy discussion about it. And their father told them to fight.
Children of Ares have this special ability, they’re able to make others mad but also get rid of their anger and make them think rationally. This would have been effective against Luke, if not for the fact that its not something Cabin 5 know much about.
Many of the abilities tirs that the kids in Cabin 5 inherit from their father, is actually a bit unknown. Not many people know of a lot if skills apart from mastering all kinds of weapons.

Sometimes I wonder if the people who get extremely up in arms about kid shows and hyper critical of things that are easily explained by them being shows intended for children have, perhaps, themselves outgrown kids shows and are just unwilling to admit it.

Imo Jason is “irredeemable” by default because I don’t see what he needs redemption from.
#I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before but joining this fandom made me fucking hate the word ‘redemption’#no person I’ve seen who is in love with the concept knows the who what where when why or how it should work in a story#apparently it isn’t just themes and tropes anymore people don’t understand the proper use of the word ‘villain’#kelseethe#also hilarious: Jason should recieve sensitivity training HR style from Bruce ‘I’m the government and children are my cronies’ wayne#if Jasons headstrong/‘answers to no one’ attitude towards vigilantism is what makes people think he's villainous#I hate to be a broken record but the baddie you’re describing is Bruce#nobody thinks he’s a villain for only trusting in his own methods/self and repeatedly isolating himself#and on top of that gaslighting and hurting people around him in attempts to do what HE **thinks** is the right thing#you people always thought *him* heroic not problematic for all these traits#the only difference is Jason isn’t psychologically abusive & controlling#yet he’s still the bad guy just cause he liberally kills folks in the crime business.#l'd argue goth ham war is the b*tman story to remind you of everything that makes Bruce authentically himself#Idk how to tell you that Bruce mentally compromising/crippling his son in a twisted attempt to ‘save him from himself’#is perfectly in line with slitting the same son’s throat because he couldn’t stand to see him avenge his own killer#and yk what a redemption arc could be interesting for someone like Bruce#because he rarely questions or doubts his choices esp wrt Jason. no matter how morally dubious they may be#I think it would be quite fun to witness his extremely restricted worldview be challenged/shattered he deserves that humbling experience

The cleric and the paladin work hard protecting the ones they love, but they still find time to take breaks and have fun.
Although as long as they’re with each other, that time can last forever!

with toriel and asgore it's like. they're both flawed and their flaws parallel one another, but they're not EQUALLY flawed... like..... come on......
#let's be serious here. just say you don't like toriel and move on. but don't pretend her hypocrisies were in any way comparable#in size in subsequent damage or in blame to asgore's own#the game goes out of its way to show asgore's actions as wrong. both towards his people and towards toriel. noble yes. sympathetic. tragic.#heartwrenching. narratively impeccable and capable of genuine chance. but fundamentally the wrong choice made by a good man#toriel may not have made the best possible choice at every turn but her final intentions were the morally correct ones#she just did what she KNEW was right. even when it meant leaving her entire life and people behind to live in isolation.#asgore backed toriel into that corner just as much as he did himself#he was a good man who was in a world of hurt and that decision hung over him for the rest of his life but it WAS. HIS. DECISION.#you cannot take that from him. you cannot take the teeth out of his character like that#and you cannot take toriel's role as the person who challanges and refutes his decision from her#her entire character was created as a subversion of rpg motherhood. and how it had so little of motherhood in it.#letting children venture out into the wilderness to face god knows what god knows where#WHICH IS!!! IN ITSELF!!!! A NARRATIVE PARADOX. because it's something that the genre requires for the story to exist#you can't play the whole game on tutorial. the contradictory nature of her stance between morality & ut's genre is built into her character#that's what makes her so freaking interesting to begin with!!!!!! like.#OUGH#undertale#toriel#asgore#entry log

maybe the best way i can express the je ne sais quoi-ness of it all
Can't find it now in my messy pile of RWS bookmarks, but on Twitter once I read a newspaper clipping where Wilbert Awdry (retired by then iirc) was, without shame!, a) complaining about PC culture and b) relating the time recently where one of the parents of his parish (congregation? flock? I forget the Anglican word but you know) came to him for counsel because her son was going to prison and he was just like You're to blame, you were always too lenient with him.
And my reaction was kinda, Hmm... Was that useful? Was that kind? Most of all, was that even true? Like is this really why most people end up in prison? Have you tried asking them? (And not just the approved cases endorsed by various charities, but prisoner testimonies en masse.)
My reaction was also Yeah, this is the least surprising reveal I've ever gotten about an author after reading their works.

So my writing blog is and always has been a chill space for me to write want I want to read from my own brain, shoot the shit and share thoughts with peoples, and just... Be a fuckin respite, but I want to make something crystal clear:
Don't turn a blind eye to Palestine.
Don't turn a blind eye to Congo.
Don't turn a blind eye to Yemen.
I go about my day to day life the best I can, but if I sit and think about the state of things in the world for too long it fucking SHATTERS me. And it disgusts and freaks me the fuck out that people can disregard human beings going through crisis after crisis and LITERAL GENOCIDE with fucking platitudes, clutching to ignorance, and circlejerking apathy.
You don't have to be mother Theresa, but it costs you nothing to actually give a damn about humanitarian crises happening around you and to know that it's wrong and fucking abnormal.
I've been taking a simple break from writing mainly unrelated because I just wanted some time to myself regardless, but also because I couldn't just immediately go back to lighthearted shit with everything going on.
People with common sense would understand and probably wouldn't even question that, but hey, common sense isn't that common and people are fucking weird.
I'm not gonna stop writing, but I need y'all to understand that I'll post what I want on my own time and I'll have a fuckin heart first. Some of you should learn that lesson too.
I'm not mentioning anyone cuz at the end of the day I'll side eye whoever I want and I'm not the Morality Police, but what'd Renee Rapp say that one time? "If the shoe fits, lace that bitch up and run."
Not a single person free until we all are, it's that simple to understand.

yellowjackets rant time :)
people whining that natalie’s death was “shitty writing” makes me want to bang my head against the wall. like are you seriously shocked that the show about tragedy and murder has tragedy and murder in it. are you seriously shocked that the show about fucked up people has fucked up people in it.
#same with people who hate van and lottie and tai and shauna and misty and ben and whoever the fuck else for being 'bad people'#'i can't root for these characters!!!!' like lmao way to miss the point of the entire show janet#they're all traumatized people (many of whom experienced that trauma as CHILDREN) and have done awful things and will do awful things again#INCLUDING nat like im sorry you believed that she was the moral compass when the show never explicitly told you that#she's just as fucked up as the rest of them. and thats what makes her interesting#that's also what makes her death compelling and. sorry. WELL WRITTEN#it's tragic and cruel and preventable. and that is the point.#sometimes characters die in media. lmao. and sometimes it isn't well executed#but this was. and it has been set up for a long time if you go back and watch the prior episodes#i understand disliking the finale or the season or whatever. not mad about that.#what i am mad about is equating a personal opinion as an irrefutable fact and proof that the writing is shitty#and sending literal death threats to the writers and creators of a show that have put a lot of work into it#like at the end of the day it's a tv show for entertainment. and you can and should be able to love a character#while ALSO understanding when said character's death is emotionally necessary in a story.#i love nat. but i also understand that her death fits the story. that doesn't make it bad writing by any means#okay im done now#sameera.txt#yellowjackets#yellowjackets spoilers
