42k into writing this November!! And I stopped mid-sentence because I suddenly very very badly wanted to write cat!Klein. My dudes, it was like a pregnancy craving, I literally stopped typing, lol.

BUT THIS STORY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT (unless I revamp my entire outline to include cat!Klein, which I am very tempted to do), because omg. Sequence 4 literally has the ability to shapeshift into animals (around the same size), and also furthers the Marionettist ability to possess animals and transfer his abilities (which, with the shapeshifting, means HUMAN VOCAL CORDS) so cat!Klein is literally, and easily, possible in canon.

...Instead, I will amuse myself with the fact that I find Fors really, really funny unintentionally.

WHEW. DONE. yearly nano review: that one sucked!! legitimately one of the hardest nanos ive done just for general exhaustion from work reasons making writing feel incredibly hard, i was playing catch up most of the month and dont feel like i produced a lot of particularly interesting writing. it feels a little like ive hit a wall wrt the utility of nano with my writing, there were a LOT of times that i would have liked to stop and go work on some worldbuilding before writing a specific scene but couldnt when i was so focused on word count, which...given the format of signoise just does not matter even a little bit. ive also been writing WAY more than usual this year overall (usually nano is the one month a year i write, ive been writing on and off really consistently all year now that im writing fic more) AND ive been working on a self imposed goal of 'at least an hour of signoise work as close to daily as possible', where 'work' counts as literally anything from writing/drawing/taking notes/outlining/worldbuilding/format tests/website work/etc etc, which is a lot more viable to do consistently because it works better for me to hop around between things. so nano wasnt particularly...new, i just had the added stress of not being able to take a day off even when i reallly really needed to and the added constraint of focusing on word count, which made my writing worse/made me less able to work on the more interesting signoise shortform stuff.

that being said! having 50k of signoise under my belt and a decent outline of what i want to keep working on/where to go next after working on this project for TEN YEARS does in fact feel pretty good. yay

Yeah, so apparently NaNoWriMo issued a statement about their stance on AI, and it really, really sucks.

I know there was some controversy last year, but that was about bad actors on their forums, which I never bothered with, so I was kind of hoping they at least made some effort to clean up that mess. This bothers me more, because it's the Nano organization itself using the same bullshit talking points as some dipshit cryptocurrency dork on Twitter.

My stance on AI is pretty simple: Fuck AI. If NaNoWriMo can't figure out how to string those six letters together in the right order, then maybe I need to rethink my use of their site. I'll keep you posted.

crumbs of a story im writing

clumsy rookie news photographer chasing after a gentleman thief to start an advice column ^_^

the thiefs legit job as a librarian doesnt pay enough to cover his rent (not enough public funding?), so he steals from rich politicians.

he kind of sees it as "hitting two birds with one stone," since the politicans are more interested in infrastructure than public funding anyway, and they have more than enough money so he doesn't feel bad doing it

since its done out of necessity, the thief is extremely meticulous and plans out his thefts. but hes also a theatre kid, so he makes a costume and more or less garners the attention of the community

the rookie is a newspaper photographer who has been following the thief for some time and has grown to admire him

the newspaper he works for is community oriented (organizing events and programs, advocating for the public) and believes the thief shares similar values

basically he proposes to start an advice column with the thief to build a rapport with the community, with the goal of winning over the public

the thief is hesitant because he's really only doing it for himself and doesnt want to get anyone else involved, but the rookie tells him to think of it as a way of helping everyone

the rest is kinda fuzzy.. i wanted to touch on community effort and public interests. I don't know if this will be the kind of story that encourages people to take action, I don't see myself as being any kind of model citizen. for now I'm just focused on pouring all my thoughts and faith in humanity into a story setting

2582 words today besties i'm back on track👍 it's funny to me to compare that number to the 533 i wrote yesterday but truly the only reason i wrote that much today because i realised 1.6k was not the vibe yesterday so i didn't force myself and risk burnout!

since i didn't share anything yesterday here's a scattering of random, unconnected no context lines that i think are neat (cw for dead animal imagery and blood/injury. this is an apocalypse forest au LOL)

Because it is still warm outside which means the nights and the morning is quick and the sunsets are long, exhaling drags, but tonight the sky is already a dark cyan and there is already the hint of coolness in the air; they can’t feel it as much anymore, the weightlessness of a summer evening.

When she looks at her hands, the drying blood, she remembers the sound of tearing flesh, of an entry wound rupturing, of ripping her brother’s missed arrow out of a man’s stomach.

They have to pay close attention to the ground — especially in the slow, dull and darkening sunset — to watch out for stones that, upon closer look, decay into dead and dried fish.

She wanted to fish so the violence of her hands could be used for something natural, something part of a cycle, to not think of a stranger’s collapsing guts. Dorothy does not like to kill, but she knows it is what she’s good at.

There are certain patches they know to look out for, like the two trees the stretch out across each other, making X's with their branches, or the pine tree with their names carved into the bark, the patch of hawthorn trees that signal they are close to home. All of these are like little earthly constellations and in a way the forest is like a starlit night to them; they do not need to map out each individual piece, each pine or oak or alder or holly bush but they know which ones will guide them home, that they know to find in the silky moonlight.

i get emotional 'cause writing is my one big passion (other than chickens) and i really want to share it with people and sometimes i feel like i'm failing to convey it and connect with people the way i really want to connect with people. that's all <3 <3
