The wildlife in its native habitat. I'm not sure of the species of this particular butterfly, but it is magnificent. I feel butterflies are amazing metaphors for our own existence - we live for only a short while, embrace it! Spending a few days travelling up and down the bush fire-ravaged area of the Australian south coast of New South Wales sprinkle some money it was hard to not be freaked out by the destruction the fires have had in that part of the Australian, where I am sure it a scene that has been replicated

Hey gang - I trust you all had a restful Easter long weekend. Catherine and I went for a great little bushwalk on Sunday up on the Brooks Plateau in Kangaroo Valley. This bit of bush is called the Ettrema Wilderness and the river that you can see flowing through it is the same Shoalhaven that figures in so many of my photographs at its estuary end. This is wild country and part of the massive (500,000 acres) Morton National Park that stretches all the way from the edge of Sydney to just near Ulladulla. This is the view looking south-west towards Three Mates Bluff. The walk itself was part of the 'Three Views Bushwalk' and will feature in my new Armchair Adventure video that I'll upload later today. #mortonnp #mortonnationalpark #ettrema #visitnsw #australia #dji #visitshoalhaven #kangaroovalley Like it? MORTON
Poetry & Photos by Lorne Johnson I’m into heightened experiences. Often going to great lengths to get the most out of my book selections. Thrills like reading Sautet in a coffee shop in Paris, Bourdain in Vietnam to simply sitting on a tree stump in the wondrous Southern Highlands of NSW reading Lorne Johnson’s poetry chapbook Morton in Morton National Park. A bridge too far perhaps? Never!…

Belmore Falls
For anyone that has ever wanted to venture to the bottom of Belmore Falls - keep reading! The old track to the bottom was closed a while ago due to rock fall and landslides, but as long as you take a walking partner it is quite safe. Although it looks like it, you will not be walking along the edge of a cliff at any point during the walk, and the trek to the bottom itself only takes between 30 and 40 minutes. To the important bit - finding the track! I bushbashed for an hour and a half in the wrong places until I eventually found the old track due to misleading advice from the internet. Go straight to Hindmarsh Lookout, follow the fence off to the right for about 30 metres, and with a keen eye you will find the spot in the fence that you need to jump - it is a path that juts out perpendicular from the fence for quite a way, as opposed to the rest of the upper circuit where the fence is placed nearly right on the edge of the cliff. Once you’ve jumped the fence, follow the path out and to the right you will find some stone steps that mark the starting place of the old path. From here it is an easy track to follow, and I do plan on taking photos of the place to jump the fence and the stone steps next time I’m there to help you guys out. Note that if you are looking to relax at a waterfall on the weekend, Belmore Falls is not the spot for you! If you want to be impressed by the magnitude and size of a waterfall, then you need to visit these falls. It is so large that is creates it’s own wind, and once you are down the bottom there is no escaping a drenching! If you want to take a dip in the large pool at the bottom, I suggest waiting for a hot summer’s day, as the waterfall is in constant shade and it can get quite cold down there. I would not suggest this trek or a swim by yourself either - it is a huge and powerful waterfall and the forces of nature are not to be toyed with here. After some reading I found out that a man drowned himself in the vicinity in 1919 and washed up in one of the pools at the bottom of the falls - eerie. Having said that, this track is a must for adventure-seekers, the view at the swimming hole of Belmore Falls is well worth the effort of locating the track and the trek to the bottom.
