The roaring ice of the Fox Glacier in New Zeland as it cuts through sheer rock. Final shot of the Cullins, another long lens shot from the Old Man of Storr looking south as the last rays of a fantastic sunset just glanced the mountain tops. I think overall I prefer my landscape composition of this sunset from a couple of posts back, but this view helps really highlight the interesting detail and contours of the peaks. Another view of the Cullins, this time from the banks of the river Sligachan as it winds its way away from the mountains. It was a cloudy autumn day, one where the light and conditions make it really hard to capture a good photo despite it still looking amazing to the human eye. As such I really struggled to get the balance of tones right to capture the moody atmosphere without it looking dull or too "overdone". "The Silent Watcher" - One of the lesser trodden paths of the Torres Del Paine National Park. This route may not have the spectacular views of the more popular trails, but to walk for miles in a peaceful silence without meeting another soul is a very special thing. "A Ray of Hope" - Another dark and moody scene from Torres Del Paine, just as the sun began to breakthrough the morning clouds. For me, the use of contrasting light like this can really help generate a great atmosphere in a photograph. Another colossal river of ice cutting through the mountains, this time in the incredible fjords of Tierra Del Fuego where the Andes mountains plunge into the sea. I read an article yesterday that explained how the Greenland ice sheet lost a staggering 1million tonnes of ice per minute in 2019, more than double the yearly average prior to that. "The calm before the storm" - the trip through these fjords at the end of the world was a humbling lesson in the power and scale of nature. All around us the majestic Andes plunged into the icy waters, carved up by the towering glaciers that shape this primal landscape. Back to Torres del Paine today after watching a great documentary by @natgeo on Chilean Patagonia.
