Zakes Mokae (August 5, 1934 - September 11, 2009) was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, he was a jazz saxophonist. Moving to England in 1961, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and became one of the most distinguished thespians in South Africa for over two decades.
He was one of the few actors capable of crossing the divided racial sections, punctuated by his collaborations with white writer Athol Fugard. Together they founded the radical theater group The Rehearsal Room in the 50s that specifically dealt with his country’s injustices. In fact, over the years his performances in “The Blood Knot,” “Boesman and Lena,” “A Lesson from Aloes” and “Master Harold...and the Boys,” have been universally applauded.
He fled the racist apartheid policies in South Africa in 1969 and migrated to America, winning a Tony award in 1982 for “Master Harold...” and proceeded to perform in American films, including A Dry White Season (1989), A Rage in Harlem (1991) and Waterworld (1995). TV appearances included strong appearances on such programs as “Law & Order,” “Dream On,” “Oz,” “X-Files,” “The West Wing” and “Monk.”
He moved to Las Vegas and served as artistic director for the Nevada Shakespeare Company. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Tonopah, NV (No. 2)
Men of wealth and power entered the region to consolidate the mines and reinvest their profits into the infrastructure of the town of Tonopah. George Wingfield, a 24-year-old poker player when he arrived in Tonopah, played poker and dealt faro in the town saloons. Once he had a small bankroll, he talked Jack Carey, owner of the Tonopah Club, into taking him in as a partner and to file for a gaming license. In 1903, miners rioted against Chinese workers in Tonopah. This resulted in China enforcing a boycott in China of U.S. imported goods.
By 1904, after investing his winnings in the Boston-Tonopah Mining Company, Wingfield was worth $2 million. When old friend George S. Nixon, a banker, arrived in town, Wingfield invested in his Nye County Bank. They grub-staked (provided with food, supplies and tools in an exchange for a percentage of mine yield) miners with friend Nick Abelman, and bought existing mines. By the time the partners moved to Goldfield, Nevada and made their Goldfield Consolidated Mining Company a public corporation in 1906, Nixon and Wingfield were worth more than $30 million.
Wingfield believed that the end of the gold and silver mining production was coming and took his bankroll to Reno, where he invested heavily in real estate and casinos. Real estate and gaming became big business throughout Central Nevada. By 1910, gold production was falling and by 1920, the town of Tonopah had less than half the population it had fifteen years earlier.
Small mining ventures continued to provide income for local miners and the small town struggled on. Located about halfway between Reno and Las Vegas, it has supported travelers as a stopover and rest spot on a lonely highway. Today the Tonopah Station has slots and the Banc Club also offers some gaming.

As someone who is slowly working her way up to become a teacher in the future at 25, through my first couple of years in college, I still had no idea what to do afterwards. Then later on, I realized that I wanted to become a teacher, maybe even over achieve a little and become a professor because I am someone who has the tendency to overthink, and high school made college seem intimidating at first, but my college life was significantly better (with the exception of paying for my classes), and I wanted people to know that company people out there will be in college or won’t be in college who are also not sure on what they want to be or what they want to do for the rest of their lives.
It is never too late to keep on searching what you want to be. Always keep going. Like many of the journeys in the games you meta analyze, it can be a scary, yet exciting journey. Once you do find out what you want to be, that journey will end, and another will begin.
Hell, at this age, I don’t have my license yet, lol. But I am going to get it this year. Just need to keep the overthinking and nervousness at bay by thinking of my favorite characters from Resident Evil and Devil May Cry. 😅
not to sound ungrateful for your warm words, but... dude you're 25 and you have a life goal and ambition worked out. you have every reason to be optimistic. you have your whole life ahead of you and a plan to make things happen.
i don't. i didn't, at your age.
you know what i was doing at 25? working security overnights and gamestop in the mornings just to get my bills paid -- and i had to do that because i graduated college with a degree in criminal justice, and there was a nation-wide hiring freeze that was still in place from the financial collapse of 2008, so i couldn't just go right into my field. so, then, about halfway through the year, i dropped everything and moved to las vegas with no plan and no money, just hoping that things would work out.
they didn't.
and suddenly, my degree was worthless, because everything i learned in college was really only relevant to new jersey criminal law, and i was now living in nevada. so, even when the hiring freeze was lifted, i couldn't get hired anywhere here.
and then i joined a cult. and had every last shred of hope that i was still holding onto taken from me.
this is going to sound so shitty, but i look at my one coworker who's a failed creative (he writes music) and working a shitty low-wage performance job on the outskirts of vegas at age 51 because he doesn't know what else to do, and i'm just
terrified
because i don't wanna be him.
40 looming over me is so much scarier than 30 was.
you only get one life, man. just one. and i've wasted mine.

@sewninto sent: ❝was it someone special?❞
Tumblr media
In some ways, the days spent in Las Vegas with Rachel seemed like only yesterday. Days of shoplifting (though he remained a thief to this day), god awful long walks to his house under the shade of his umbrella, lounging around the house with cigarettes and alcohol and getting lost in conversations while old movies played on the TV--usually feeling too hot from the Nevada sun or too cold from the air conditioning. It was only a year that they'd spent together, but in that time he'd made so many memories that would stick with him for the rest of his life. He would forever remember the girl that he’d fallen in love with, the one he planned to run away with and who had disappeared on him without a trace.
Stubborn as he had been to move on, the lack of evidence making it especially hard, Boris had grieved her absence and had moved forward in life. For a while, he would see her when he was high out of his mind, making it that much harder on him and reigniting his hope that she was still alive, but eventually those appearances had gone away to. Since then, he had his flings and relationships, some more short lived than others and some more meaningful. The woman he’d been staying with on and off recently was definitely one of the shorter lived ones.
❝Nie. I care about her, but not so much like that. Well, not anymore, see. She was my girl for a while, now we only enjoy each others company, if you understand me. No strings attached, no obligations, that sort of thing.❞ Gaze landing on Rachel’s face, familiar but different, Boris concluded that the most noticeable change was that they only had one eye now. ❝And him?❞ A quirk of the brow, arms folding atop the table as he leaned in. ❝Money, protection, or love? Which is it?❞

The Top Current Trends in Las Vegas Real Estate
Tumblr media
Las Vegas, Nevada is known for its world-renowned entertainment, casinos, and hospitality industries. However, in recent years, the city has also become an attractive real estate market due to its growing economy and diverse population. In this post, we’ll explore the top current trends in Las Vegas real estate that anyone looking to invest or buy a property in the area should know.
Increased demand for single-family homes
The pandemic has prompted buyers to seek larger and more comfortable living spaces, and Las Vegas is no exception. Single-family homes have seen a spike in demand, as people look for privacy, home offices, and outdoor amenities. According to the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors (GLVAR), single-family home sales rose by 8.7% in 2020, with an average sales price of $354,000. As a result, these properties are now selling much faster, and buyers may find themselves in bidding wars.
Booming luxury market
The luxury real estate market in Las Vegas has seen significant growth in recent years, with high-end buyers seeking luxury villas, penthouses, and homes in exclusive areas. According to the GLVAR, luxury home sales increased by 46.8% in 2020, with the average sales price reaching $1,350,000. Luxury buyers are looking for modern amenities, exclusive locations, and personalized services, combining the comfort of home with upscale experiences.
Growth in commercial real estate
Las Vegas has always had a strong commercial real estate market due to its tourism and hospitality industries, but new industries like tech and healthcare have been driving demand as well. According to CBRE, office vacancy rates in Vegas have dropped for the fourth consecutive quarter in 2021, with tech and financial firms accounting for the majority of leasing activity. Additionally, the city is investing heavily in the healthcare industry, with new hospitals and medical facilities opening across the city.
Increasing interest in short-term rentals
Las Vegas is a popular destination for tourism, and as a result, short-term rentals like Airbnb have gained popularity. Homeowners can earn significant income by renting out their properties for a few days or weeks, especially during peak travel seasons. However, investors should be aware of the city’s strict regulations on short-term rentals, including fees and permits required for operating a rental property.
The growing interest in sustainable real estate
Las Vegas is becoming a leader in sustainable development and green real estate, with developers and homeowners embracing energy-efficient technologies and environmentally-friendly design. For example, the city’s new Circa Resort & Casino is one of the few LEED Gold-certified hotels in the world, with sustainable features like solar panels, rainwater collection, and energy-efficient lighting. Additionally, more homeowners are opting for green building materials, solar panels, and energy-saving appliances when building or renovating their homes.
Virtual real estate tours
The pandemic has changed the way the real estate industry operates, with virtual tours and remote viewings becoming a necessity. Las Vegas real estate agents and developers have embraced technology, offering virtual tours, drone footage, and 3D renderings of properties. Many buyers are now able to view properties from the comfort of their own homes, making the buying process more efficient and convenient.
The rise of remote work
The pandemic has also accelerated the trend of remote work, with many companies allowing employees to work from home permanently. As a result, more people are looking to move away from expensive cities like New York and San Francisco, and Las Vegas is an attractive option. The city offers a lower cost of living, a warmer climate, and an abundance of outdoor activities, making it an ideal place for remote workers to call home.
In the end, the Las Vegas real estate market has been evolving quickly in recent years, with new trends emerging that offer opportunities for buyers, sellers, and investors. Whether you’re looking for a single-family home or a luxury condo, the city’s real estate market is diverse and growing. Additionally, Las Vegas’s unique mix of industries, sustainability initiatives, and remote work opportunities make it an attractive location for anyone looking to invest in property or relocate to a thriving city.

NEVER NEVADA HQ PLOR DROP: ELEUSINIAN MYSTERIES
The Eleusinian Mysteries surrounded the legend of those devoted to the goddess Demeter, the anchor of change that came over the earth without any doubt. The mysteries themselves were the initiation of those into her cult that held the loss of her daughter Persephone to the Underworld at the core of their beliefs. They held the temperament of the goddess as the reasoning for every harvest whether it was good or bad. This initiation brought those closer to understanding the control Demeter had, and in turn, giving them power through that knowledge.
Today, the city of Las Vegas has their own initiation. The truth is given to them on a scale and it is up to them to measure good and bad when the conspiracies they have turned a cheek to finally come to fruition. One of the forces that controls sin city’s flourish is now revealed, but will it make them a target or finally a crowned king? Their lies are buried deep, and surely their roots tangle with those who have found a way to thrive in the desert. It is up to those who still hide in the shade to decide if they find power in this, or loss. Will alliances bend or break?
ON THE ROAD TO HELL THERE WAS A RAILROAD LINE. At 2 AM on October 20th, the Brothers of Ichor carry out a robbery on one of the incoming trains passing through the Farmer’s Market. The lingering company of the brotherhood hasn’t been questioned all week because of their role in organizing the event, giving them the perfect excuse to leave members on site for the attack. However, their plans easily foil.
IT WAS THE ROAD TO HELL, IT WAS HARD TIMES. Another presence has claimed the railroad as their own, one that the Brotherhood swears they have recognized. More than a few shipments that they’ve been tipped off on have come with instruction to move certain supplies with discretion, and any tampering has been met with force from an unknown party. This force is present that night, and claimed ownership over the railroad as a whole and ruining their fortune. A fight breaks out, and in turn, violence creates a friction that leads to an explosion. One train car sparks, and then bursts into flame that devours the goods targeted by the Brotherhood. Both sides are incapacitated, leaving authorities with an easy win.
NOW, NOT EVERYONE GETS TO BE A GOD AND DON'T FORGET THAT TIMES ARE HARD. The Las Vegas Police Department is instantly on scene, and the Brothers of Ichor are incarcerated impending charges for theft of interstate commerce. They’re not the only ones with a hit, though. The unidentified bodies left in the ash weave a story with the details that can be found, leaving a few identities linked to those on Visas paid in full through Asena Bank receipts by none other than the Fox family.
IT’S AN OLD SONG. Suspicions regarding the Fox family ring through the news and hang themselves on every stand for viewers and readers to consume. The American identities sold to the city from the Fox family is torn apart, uncovering their Ukrainian roots. The Foxes are revealed as the Lysytsya family and every hesitation of their power is given a spotlight. It doesn’t take long for them to regain their sway, and when morning breaks and cameras zoom in on bright red hair and blonde strands threatened to be pushed out of place by autumn winds, their crowns don’t shift. The Lysytsyas now live in the public eye once more for every reason they avoided, but there’s not enough evidence to charge them. All that can be given to them is suspicion, a shoddy tattoo, and legal endorsement of parties who made poor decisions.
AND WE’RE GONNA SING IT AGAIN. While those in charge of upholding the law can do no more than find a way to catch the foxes, the rest of the city is given a warning. They are not the only power at play, and the Fox family has its roots laid in a perfect V that is sharp. Just look for the angle of the creature’s face inked on someone’s skin. They’ve been made, but the price is still to be determined. There’s a chance they can use it to their advantage. The fight for control of Vegas is once again rattling through the city.
SUMMARY: The Brothers of Ichor waited until 2 AM on Thursday, October 20th to rob a train. They run into another force that they’ve met before and have a shifting alliance with that has tipped them off on some shipments, given them supply, or warned them against tampering with certain trains. A fight breaks out over a specific train car with weapons and explosives of the Foxes, and an explosion ignites wounding both sides with mutual casualties. The Las Vegas Police Department is immediately on scene after the fires are cleared by the Las Vegas Fire Department. Upon the identification of certain fallen members of their community, they find a link between all Visas being paid for by the Fox family. Conspiracy theories of their criminal activity come into play but they cannot be tied legally due to the legality of formal endorsements. All that can be given to them is a poor decision in those linked to other crimes in the city. The Fox family has their Americanized reputation ripped to shreds, outing them formally as the Lysytsya family. The news takes on the story immediately and the family works to preserve their image as one of the richest families in Vegas. Certain conclusions are made certain to all other crime organizations–– the Foxes are another force in the city, and this will make or break them, and they could be next.
IC INFORMATION
The Brothers of Ichor attacked an incoming train for its shipment at 2 AM on October 20th. Brothers on scene were Road Captain, Enforcers, and certain Riders impending initiation. There was a total of seven casualties when a train cart exploded.
The Foxes, tasked to ensure the shipment of illegal weapons, moved in on the Brothers of Ichor tampering with their supply. There was a total of four casualties. Fox members on scene were within the Vygyvytsya, Kurok, and Posnacheni ranks.
Following the investigation against the Brothers of Ichor, the core executive board (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer) are called upon to answer for the group and fix their image as well as funding to protect their accused. The Sergeant of Arms is in charge of dealing with punishment in finding blame for the chaos after deciding consequence for the Road Captain.
The Foxes will have remaining members with punishment for their failure decided by the Muzhiki. Many will be stripped down to the Posnacheni ranks. The Lysytsya family is under heavy guidance of the Obshchak who serves as the bridge between the LVPD and the organization, finally having their official role come to light to those they work with within the police department.
The Lysytsya family is under heavy surveillance from the LVPD, but also public eye. News, journalists, and even paparazzi now follow their every move.
Asena Bank has been approached for banking paper trails regarding the payment to the fallen and even arrested members of the Fox crime organization. Bankas and other members of the organization are directly involved in this uncovering.
OOC INFORMATION
If your character is in the Foxes, their affiliation has been made! They are known members of the crime organization, though not all have been charged as there is no direct proof to further investigation upon the involvement of the Foxes sway with law enforcement. Many Fox members have been interviewed and charged with a fine, or have an impending court date. It’s safe to say that some NPCs will take the fall but your character can get out free!
The Lysytsya family are the worst kind of celebrities and their American identities are now public information. For example, Ollie Fox is now known as Oleksander Lysytsya.
If you want your character to have sustained injuries, they must be a member of the Brothers of Ichor or Foxes for this event.
If your character is in the Brothers of Ichor, they have been taken into custody and interviewed. Most members have been let go and charged a fine as evidence of their robbery was primarily destroyed with a few exceptions, or blame put on the fallen NPCs.
You may continue threads regarding the Farmer’s Market until Friday, October 21st. After that, no new threads regarding the market should be made though you can continue them as you please.
Threads regarding the explosion and the morning of October 20th can be made until Monday, October 31st. After that, no new threads set on that night should be made though you can continue them as you please.

— biography,
Scotland Lane Hargrove, also known as Scottie is a 27 year old from Philadelphia, PA, currently living in Las Vegas, Nevada. As a young adult, Scottie attended Juilliard and had multiple offers to join several professional dance companies after graduation, however a car wreck resulting in a catastrophic injury to her knee ended her career before it could even begin.
Unbeknownst to most, the accident didn't only end Scottie's dance career, but also the life of a young expectant mother and her unborn child. But as luck would have it, a witness to the event took pity on Scottie and intervened in order to keep her from facing charges. Marco Covington cleaned up the scene of the crime, leaving behind no evidence of Scotland ever being present, then tracked her down providing a solid alibi to her injury.
It wasn't until Scottie recovered from her injury that she learned Marco's aid came with a price, come work for him or be turned over to the authorities. Fearful of facing jail time and being branded as a murderer, Scotland packed everything she owned and made the move to Las Vegas, moving into an apartment provided to her by Marco. The next day, she took stage at Dari’s After Hours Nightclub, located at The Cromwell, as the new main attraction - Sylvie Sutton.
It soon became apparent that Scottie was at Marco's beck and call. Within a matter of months, she was headlining shows on a nightly basis, barely making minimum wage. While she felt she had more than paid the price for Marco's help, Marco felt differently and used the situation as blackmail and leverage to keep her under his wraps. Feeling disgusted with her predicament, Scotland developed a drinking habit to help numb the pain. Alcohol quickly became a crutch, and Scottie found herself needing to get drunk before getting on stage each and every night.

Unearthed Horrors When Moving Out of a House
Tumblr media
Moving into a new home is an exciting adventure. But for real estate professionals, moving companies, homeowners, and investors, there’s an unsettling side to this process that often remains hidden. Beneath the surface of freshly painted walls and polished floors, disturbing discoveries might be lurking. This blog will unveil some of the most terrifying things found in homes after tenants move out, offering insights into how you can handle these unsettling surprises.
Why Discovering Hidden Horrors is Relevant to You
Whether you’re a real estate agent, moving company, or homeowner, discovering unexpected items left behind can be both shocking and problematic. Understanding these potential pitfalls can help you prepare better, ensuring smoother transitions and safer environments for future occupants.
The Unseen Challenges of Real Estate Cleanouts
Real estate cleanouts can sometimes reveal the dark side of human nature. From bizarre personal belongings to hazardous waste, the spectrum of discoveries is vast and varied. These challenges not only disrupt schedules but can also pose health and safety risks, making preparedness crucial.
The Role of Movers in Henderson, Nevada
Movers in Henderson, Nevada, and beyond play a critical role in addressing these hidden horrors. They often serve as the first line of defense, identifying and managing these unexpected finds. Their experience can provide invaluable insights and solutions to homeowners and real estate professionals.
Rotting Food and Perishable Nightmares
Often, tenants forget perishables in cupboards and refrigerators. The sight (and smell) of rotting food can be nauseating. For real estate professionals, this means extra time and resources spent on thorough cleaning before new tenants can move in.
Forgotten Pets
Perhaps one of the most distressing discoveries is abandoned pets. Cats, dogs, and even exotic pets have been found left behind, suffering without food or water. This not only raises ethical concerns but also requires immediate attention to ensure animal welfare and property sanitation.
Hazardous Materials
Tenants sometimes leave behind hazardous materials like chemicals, paints, and other substances that require specialized disposal. These items can pose serious health risks and necessitate professional intervention to safely remove and dispose of them.
Personal Belongings and Sentimental Items
From forgotten photo albums to children’s toys, personal belongings left behind can be emotionally charged. While some items can be easily discarded, others might require contacting former tenants, adding to the complexity of cleanouts.
Pests and Infestations
A property that has been left unattended can become a haven for pests. Rodents, insects, and other critters can cause significant damage, necessitating fumigation and repairs before the property can be deemed habitable again.
Hidden House Horrors in Las Vegas
In cities like Las Vegas, movers often encounter unique challenges due to the transient nature of its population. Las Vegas movers frequently find items ranging from unusual memorabilia to hidden stashes of valuables, each requiring careful handling and ethical considerations.
The Unexpected and Unexplainable
Sometimes, the discoveries defy explanation. From strange symbols painted on walls to peculiar collections, these finds can be unsettling and require a mix of professional and psychological readiness to address.
Legal and Ethical Considerations
Handling these unexpected discoveries often comes with legal and ethical considerations. Real estate professionals and homeowners must familiarize themselves with local laws regarding abandoned property to ensure compliance and avoid potential legal pitfalls.
Best Practices for Moving Companies
For moving companies such as Las Vegas movers establishing clear protocols for dealing with unexpected discoveries is crucial. Training staff to recognize and appropriately handle these situations can enhance their service quality and customer satisfaction.
The Importance of Communication
Clear communication between all parties involved in a move can significantly reduce the risk of unpleasant surprises. Ensuring that tenants understand the importance of thorough cleanouts and providing guidelines can help mitigate many of these issues.
How to Prepare for the Unexpected
Preparation is key. Having a checklist for potential hidden horrors and a plan of action can make a significant difference. This not only ensures a smoother transition but also helps protect the health and wellbeing of everyone involved.
The dark side of moving reveals a range of hidden horrors that require attention, preparedness, and professional handling. For real estate professionals, moving companies, homeowners, and investors, understanding these challenges is essential. By learning from these experiences and implementing best practices, you can ensure safer, more efficient transitions for all parties involved.

you can see sqnx is rolling in shb money. honestly i was fine with arr's lack of animations, voiceacting, and cutscenes. im a ps2 player reading doesn't bother me. i wish xiv was like fe3h where if you cutoff a dialogue line the voice line keeps going until the next is started. dungeons are really getting harder... do i risk dps and dying or tank. remember the days when yashtola was a conjurer and both twins arcanist. soo french elves german voeburt? i need those clawed shoes for my bunny. you sure that's a nu mou? they have tentacle hands and a different face. ah a glamour. they sound like a ten year old boy. beq lugg's a soul mage.... ah voeburt...
Tumblr media
like a primal?
i don't remember what was the excuse they gave for why the pc can freely travel between worlds.
Tumblr media
i don't think the light visual effect was the right one to use here. hmm the seperation of mind and boy. tempering was described as a filter or barrier between the mind and reality or something. the stagnation was from light aether. i remember early in 5.0 the writers went for quite a while describing how light was stagnant and dark vivacious.
welp i'm locked out of editing my draft. damn you tumblr.
anyways hadn't kal-shir moved to the crystarium also why didn't you ask her what's wrong.
here's the thing they established that upon buying their way into free citizenship they gave up all worldly possession to eulmore/vauthy. so all their private businesses's ownership was transferred to the State. unless vauthy sold them they should still be owner by eulmore. idk if vauthy kept them running or now just owns the trademark and stuff. also why not just make this wrenden mayor. i don't think making the parlor the seat of governance is a good idea. just convert vauthy's room to office space
they really are turning it into las vegas. which i mean the strip is a tax haven but nevada is doing pretty well, implemented some good policies recently. if it's advertising, could do traveling shows and pop up bars. bro you're getting paid in company credits don't do it ask for gil.
it was a whole plot point with moenbryda that white auracite can't store aether it just dissipates it quickly
i don't remember what a soul crystal is. but uh hey anyone remember job stones those picked up bits of memory and personality,
so zenos can use aether now. dude you're a dragoon break a window
look i have dps brain. killing the boss is mitigation. i was i suppose the know the adds explode and wipe me. also where's my easy mode
an echo with out the hydaelyn. hmmm. zenos probably got the battle echo.
Tumblr media
im only half listening to voiced lines but he does mention aymeric by name here
wow they're really dangling the plot thread teasers
ffxiv 5.2
ew. the gaius redemption arc.
oh wouldn't that be fun in this game actually forced the player character to choose between the scions and the threat of the garleans. shame that's not going to happen.
oh yeah the ardbert look alike plot thread.
ojii-chan!!!
timeline lore! g'raha arrived after everyone hated the wols, after the flood? pr campaign go! this ties in pretty well with cyella's quest. i do think the player character could use their time better like hello the ultima weapons and garlemald and war and scions, but ffxiv in general has a priorities problem (i remember the arr titan questline), and there's no one the crystarium loves more than the wod and crystal exarch. disturbing really how much influence these two people have. i hope there's a scribe present recording everything the pc is saying. im a bit iffy on the ethics too that 2 people (as moral as they actually are as we know out of universe) should be able to dictate history and opinion. should we be able to do this just because we personally like ardbert and have a personal connection with him. the fact that we're doing this not for truth's sake but because woe ardbert doesn't deserve a bad reputation rubs me the wrong way
huh he's acting like 3.x ardbert. interesting. uh wasn't warrior of light like specifically for hydaelyn's chosen. wow the pc HATES new arbert. i wonder why they are so convinced he's not ardbert initially when there is 0 evidence. like new ardbert walk into the room and pc immediately starts death glaring at them. i actually think it'd be more interesting if the devs had left it ambiguous as to whether that was actually ardbert or not instead of immediately telling the audience he's fake. because a lot of players really liked ardbert and dearly wanted him to come back. and i mean the new writers did bring back gaius, dragoon boy estinien. and fake ardbert acts so much like 3.x ardbert the devs could have made it ambiguous whether he had memory loss or not. string the player on a little have a couple heart to hearts hahaha. uri always refers to the paragons by full title, he's so stuffy and proper in japanese (unlike eng uri who's a theatre kid). it's never Elidibus like in eng it's always Ascian Elidibus, never Lahabrea it's always Ascian Lahabrea.
wol and mean wod different things. warrior of light refers to hydaelyn's chosen, possibly tempered, with the blessing of light, and echo. warrior of darkness meanwhile refers to the person to returned night to novrant no metaphysical implications or affiliation with zodiark. so it's real weird to hear the scions equating the two.
back to the bunnies! that statue's totally going to come to life and attack us. yup
wow the pc hates new ardbert so much "extend a friendly fist". the new writers crying and shaking and sweating and tearing their hair out over how to retcon the old writers saying that elidibus sought to balance light and dark because let's be real the old writers said that and probably didn't have a plan.
the elidibus writers definitely changed. warring triad and 3.x vs 5.x you can tell the writers were writing him for different goals different types of characters.
my, aren't we quick to believe one side of the story. the writers clearly are framing a good guy bad guy situation but if this were real and you look objectively at the situation there's isn;t enough information to be making drastic decisions like attacking the benthos.
Tumblr media
that's a little infantizing. the fish people are allowed to make bad decisions.
yeah why didn't we try the boat to begin with
why do we need bismark again. oh it's also buried underwater. could have just sent wol and alisaie instead of destroying another ecosystem
anamnesis anyder. surprisingly intact for 10000 years under the sea or something. unless the ondo have been refurbishing it. like the lights are even on. see originally bosses disappeared into purple wisps because they were ascian aether summons or something but even after that stopped being a plot point they kept the bosses poofing mostly, like there should totally be a corpse there that was a normal person/ondo why'd she go poof into dark aether. huh so that's a a female ondo/sahagin look like (ignoring that they gave the fish tits)
praxis. you help people by helping people. if you leave who's going to help the people of the crystarium and lakeland. who's going to protect the roads and keep the city functioning. what was that you do more by plants native plants in you garden then you do chasing some grade world saving dream. are the devs retconning the echo and hydaelyn connection and separating the two. i like this actually framed as a misconception. what is eli up to. trying to awaken the echo in more people? why didn't any of the scions get the echo if so many in that crowd did. (real reason plot breaking need to keep the pc special). the custom animations for ardbert's face. how did the pc awaken the echo i don't remember. or did we start in the hydaelyn cutscene. hmm what about 1.0 player characters. those two would honestly probably do more good staying in the guard adventuring seems to be a mix of oddjobs and mercenary work you aren't going to be heroes saving people it's a job like what if a crime lord hires you as a bodyguard against assassins.
if zenos didn't implant an artificial echo, maybe he could have awakened it naturally, should have gone to more meteor showers smh. but doesnt he hear hydaelyn's voice? could he be one of the few echoes not tied to hydaelyn?
also yeah i got spoiled on cystal mommy. the internet is is the internet. also asahi is malding from beyond the grave.

Train Talk Tuesday
Tumblr media
Hi, so it's been quite a while since the last post, hasn't it? It's been so long since the last post that a lot of stuff has happened since then in the world of rail-based transportation, stuff which I have a few thoughts on, but not enough to laser focus into a single post. So instead, I’m choosing to compile a ton of different news items into one post, as a lightning-round like thing. I’ve done this kind of thing before (see this post), but I don’t expect this to be a norm going forward, there’s just been quite a lot of news recently, and I figured it would be best to do it all in one post. With that out of the way, it's time to commence the news!
youtube
First up on the list, Brightline West has officially broken ground in Las Vegas. For the uninitiated, Brightline West is a high-speed rail link between Las Vegas, Nevada and Los Angeles*, California. It is being built by Brightline, the private company which runs trains in Florida, hence why it's called Brightline West.
I am personally really excited for this project. With the exception of the Acela in the Northeast (which you can argue day and night whether its actually high-speed or not), the United States doesn’t have any kind of high-speed rail right now, so seeing projects which aim to bring high-speed rail to a country which largely sticks with cars is a refreshing sight to see. It's not 100% perfect, as there will be some single tracking and there won’t be a direct link to LA Union Station at first, but there are plans to remedy this in the future. Just like with California High-Speed Rail, once completed, this line will have the potential to radically change how people in the area move, and it will be a major stepping stone toward a more sustainable future.
Speaking of California High-Speed Rail, the next news item is about a project very close to it! Caltrain has officially finished electrifying their main line between San Francisco and San Jose!
For the uninitiated, Caltrain is a commuter railroad that primarily serves San Francisco, California. As part of California High-Speed Rail, Caltrain has been electrifying their main line between San Francisco and San Jose, as CAHSR will be using the Caltrain main line as part of the route into San Francisco. Recently, though, the project has reached its end, and Caltrain will begin electric commuter service soon.
What makes me really happy about this project is it demonstrates that the United States is capable of these kinds of projects. Time and time again, there is cope about how the United States is incapable of electrification projects, and that we are meant to just stick to diesels. This project reaching its conclusion is hardline proof that it is possible, but only if we actually make a worthwhile attempt at making it happen. There is no “We’re not ready”, no “It's too expensive”, just build the goddamn wires and stop screaming about it.
Tumblr media
Moving all the way from one coast to the next, we arrive at the City of Brotherly Love for our next news piece, which is that the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) has terminated its $185 million contract for bi-level commuter cars with CRRC, a state-owned Chinese rolling stock company. The reason for the termination seems to be the delay in getting the new cars and the shoddy craftsmanship of the ones CRRC did deliver.
I’m personally not going to get too into the whole shenanigans with CRRC, as there is a fantastic video on it here, but the main sparknotes of it are that CRRC was chosen by SEPTA as Pennsylvanian law mandates that the lowest bidder for a contract like this is guaranteed to be chosen, and CRRC happened to be the one who bid the lowest when SEPTA was looking for companies who wanted to build new bi-levels for them. This is something that is also in force in Massachusetts, which is why the MBTA picked CRRC as the company to build out the replacement cars for the Orange and Red Lines for Boston's subway. Said cars have not only been severely delayed, but have experienced numerous manufacturing issues which required them to be pulled from service to remedy. I think that CRRC has played a clever game here, where by exploiting a bad law, they were able to secure the contract from much more reliable manufacturers. This is just another case of how penny pinching transit agencies always leads to trouble, but I also would stress that this is another issue with not having domestic manufacturers anymore. With the exception of the Brookville Equipment Corporation, the United States has no rolling stock manufacturers anymore, let alone large ones on the scale of Siemens or Alstom. The United States used to have these, like Budd Co. and the St. Louis Car Co., but a lack of investment into railroads ultimately drove these companies into their graves, and the void they left in their wake continues to plague the United States to this very day. As of now CRRC has made it clear they will look toward re-negotiating the contract with SEPTA, but I doubt that SEPTA will be willing to talk.
Tumblr media
The final news item takes us up north to New Jersey, at the Portal North Bridge, which has officially reached 50% completion status. This new bridge will be replacing the older Portal Bridge, which is a railroad bridge which carries the Northeast Corridor over the Hackensack River.
Originally constructed in 1910 by the Pennsylvania Railroad as part of the connection to New York City, the replacement of the Portal Bridge is a key part of the Gateway Program, a major infrastructure project meant to increase the capacity of the Northeast Corridor between Newark Penn Station and New York Penn Station. Right now the NEC between these two stations is only double tracked in some areas, including the Portal Bridge, which limits how many trains can be run on the line. In addition, the Portal Bridge also enforces a speed limit on the NEC, making trains run at a glacial 60mph maximum while on it.
As someone who has mentioned how much the connection from NYC to NJ sucks in the Penn Station rant (see here), seeing such a milestone is a refreshing sight. Just like Caltrain wrapping up electrification of its main line, this is proof that large public infrastructure projects being accomplished aren’t some kind of myth here in the United States, it can be done, we just need to actively try to do them. The Gateway Program in general will likely need its own post one day, but seeing such a large project reach a critical milestone is a refreshing sight, especially since it will rectify a major issue with the NEC. The NEC won’t be totally perfect even after the Gateway Program concludes, but this will be a major step forward for the NEC in general, be it Amtrak or NJ Transit.
And that’s all of the news I have! There was definitely a lot of stuff I missed that I couldn’t do in this post, which is unfortunate, but to be expected. I did my best to pick out the stuff that I thought could use the most spotlight on, so some stuff unfortunately didn’t make the cut, but that’s just how I roll. More posts like these may or may not happen, it will depend on whether more news stuff happens. I do expect the hiatus on posts to persist, as I still need to find some ideas for stuff worth talking about, but I will do my best to try to keep the hiatus as short as possible. Until then, I hope to see you all for the next post!
