@geluatekurama Human villains opinions part 2?
@moroccos-apprentice what does /lh mean Do you think Morocco’s villainy started in childhood or after he reached adulthood? I don’t know if I could ever picture him as a ‘goody-goody’ but I love a good ‘innocent character gets hurt to the point of corrupting’ trope.
The Morocco virus! I was going to talk about it in the first post, but I forgot/the post was getting too long.
I like this technically not human character. I enjoy how it built up from simple chaos (video game mayhem) to more dangerous work (kidnapping). I’m glad it wasn’t a one off character like I had originally thought it was going to be when watching the episode of it’s first appearance for the first time. I thought it was just going to be a silly little thing for a filler-type episode and I was pleasantly surprised it was not! I like episodes that show the rescue workers mess up sometimes and aren’t perfect.
Furthermore, open ending? I know we saw the morbot with the Morocco virus inside glitching out and falling into a watery abyss, BUT technically we didn’t see it die. Technically.
I like Chickadee! Wish she was in more episodes (though all I can hear is Mabel). I feel like there was missed potential for her and Quarry to partner up against the Burns’ for an episode. She wants to make big bucks without doing the work, he wants to illegally hunt. I think they could’ve worked something out. And we could’ve gotten more Angry Graham™️ content with how he feels about her.
Thurston Chumley, just like Quint Quarry, is a throw away villain. He was just there for an excuse to have Quarry in another episode, wasn’t he?? Basically! And who tf names their kid Thurston (Thirst-ton)??? Does he thirst a ton ?
ALSO LMAO??

I saw you say you before you had a literature degree and recommended reads before (the poems were really good) do you have any other books/poems you recommend (not just Arabic ones but any?)
WOOO putting my degree to good use. So I had to read a lot of classics, short stories, and documents like declarations/speeches/etc. so a lot of books you'll see below are most likely classics or at least from a few decades ago. I mostly work with children now so my newest reads are kid's books (if someone else wants those, feel free to ask!!). My recommendations are below- again, PLLEEEASSEEE be very careful about content warnings and go in with an open mind!
So I'm going to be very very frank, my favorite writer and poet is William Blake. Cannot recommend him enough. "Ah, Sunflower", "The Lamb", "The Tygre", "The Angel"- William Blake my beloved. Fun fact, he's one of the founders/earliest writers of the Romantic Era. He also does gorgeous artworks that either go alongside his books- can't recommend him enough he's amazing.
Do you like autographies? No? Too bad, go read The Autobiography of Malcolm X this is a threat!!!!! I really think this is one everyone should read, it's phenomenal and raw, but also gives you something to discuss and ponder about.
The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster. Could not put this down. It's a play set in Italy just go read it if you like tragedies and drama I was GASPING the whole time.
Mrs. Dalloway by Virgina Woolf. A shorter read at less than 200 pages. Deals with post-WW1 in a stream of consciousness narrative about a day in the life of Mrs. Dalloway.
I have to, have to, always recommend Toni Morrison. By god is her writing amazing, but I have to give a big big big warning that her books will probably destroy you for a few days. The Bluest Eye especially. Heavy content warnings for her works but... if you can stomach it, absolutely someone you should read.
Other Recommendations I'm not Going Into Heavy Detail About:
Rappaccini's Daughter and Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Cask of Amontillado, Ligeia, the Masque of the Red Death, and The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe.
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs.
Sweat and Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Thurston.
Dracula by Bram Stoker.
Good Country People and A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O'Connor
"Who Said It Was Simple" but also basically anything by Audre Lorde.
Cathedral by Raymond Carver.
Everyday Use by Alice Walker.
Woman Hollering Creek by Sandra Cisneros.

what we can have
I want to say ‘this is a weird one’ but let’s face it: when have I ever written something that’s not?
That said… this is: a) a crossover b) wizardbaron
Fandom: The Dresden Files - Jim Butcher, The Fetch Phillips Archives Series - Luke Arnold Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Relationships: Harry Dresden/Johnny Marcone, Thurston Niles/Fetch Phillips Tags: Crossover, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Dimension Travel, POV Alternating, POV First Person, POV Third Person, Marcone POV, Fetch POV, in terms of the Dresden Files it's set after Fool Moon, in the FPA universe after OFITF, pining Wizardbaron, established Philes, because I said so, somehow Philes ended up being the emotionally more mature couple in this which is hilarious, Unresolved Sexual Tension, Fae & Fairies, Niles & Marcone bromance, Fluff
Summary:
John Marcone has a bad start of his day when he manages to get his favorite wizard to help him, only for them to be transported to a different city. Fetch Phillips also faces trouble when a self-proclaimed wizard and a trigger-happy mafia boss enter his café unexpectedly.
The story of four men grappling with the unpredictable nature of magic and their impractical crushes.
Read on AO3
To answer a few questions you might have in advance:
Can I read this if I haven’t read the Dresden Files?
Yes, totally! There are a few minor spoilers from book 1 & 2 but nothing big. If you are familiar with the general premise of the Dresden Files, you should be fine.
Can I read this if I haven’t read the Fetch Phillips Archives?
Technically, yes, but from the FPA perspective, this takes place after the third book, and there are some pretty significant spoilers alluded to. If you have no intention of reading the FPA or don’t care about the spoilers, you should be fine. However, I think if you like the Dresden Files, you should really give the Fetch Phillips Archives a go, and maybe save this fic after you read the first three books ;)
Nara you never seemed like a huge Wizardbaron fan, how come you wrote this ship? Can we expect more Harry x Marcone fics in the future?
GODS I HOPE NOT
I’m sorry for being so antagonistic about this. I have a real love/hate relationship with Marcone and this ship.
I get everything I ever wanted from enjoying Harry/Nic and Fetch/Niles. The reason why this fic ended up being Harry/Marcone is because they are much closer in vibe to Fetch/Niles, and I thought Marcone and Niles would get along pretty well. These ships and characters mirrored each other nicely so Marcone fit my idea better.
If I could have gotten away with making this Harry/Nic I would have, believe me.
I will always respect Wizardbaron enjoyers as the backbone of the DF fandom. And I also liked the idea of writing something that they could realistically enjoy without having to descend into the rarepair hell with me lol
I have no intention of writing more wizardbaron tho, sorry. Although as all fanfic writers know we have limited control of what we end up writing, am I right?
Also I re-listened to Even Hand while editing, and I highly recommend the audiobook version of that if you’re far enough into the DF series. It’s narrated by Mr. Author himself (btw I don’t know why I always call him that but you know, I think I’d better stick to Fae rules and don’t call him by his name on a fanfic lmao) and he clearly had so much fun with it. Certain implications for future theories aside it’s also one of the good parts with Marcone.
Anyway, if you read all that ramble i love you hope you enjoy the fic <3

Sonic Youth - Champoeg State Park, Oregon, August 29, 1997
Just two summers after Beck toiled at the bottom of the Lollapalooza 95 bill, he was headlining his own big outdoor shows, with Odelay taking him from one-hit-wonder to genuine (if still genuinely weird) pop star. But Mr. Hansen hadn't forgotten his old friends, Sonic Youth!
To say the least, 1997 was a transitional year for Thurston, Lee, Kim and Steve. To begin with, they took their hard-earned Lolla cash and invested it in their very own recording studio and launched the experimental SYR label, getting back in touch with those avant roots. They also workshopped the material that would become A Thousand Leaves, which, in the bucolic setting of Champoeg State Park, is presented in mostly instrumental form.
It's a cool set, though you have to imagine that most of the attendees waiting for the big Beck show were a little mystified. The triple guitar weave that Sonic Youth were developing was generally mellower and more contemplative than what had come before, calmer waters after the stormy Diamond Sea. It's still spiky, but with a little more exploratory flow: pastoral no wave? Something like that anyway. (For a little extra jamming from this era, check out this excellent Sessions At West 54th broadcast ...)
And hey, you can also check out Beck's set! Personally, it's a little hard to tell exactly how well this stuff holds up in 2023 ... but believe me, it was a lot of fun at the time.

King of Wishful Thinking - Pt 1
1974
Steve Harrington x Reader
The ongoing saga of Steve Harrington's declarations of love for you being discouragingly, hilariously and ironically stolen from him.
|| Series Masterlist || Next (1978)
Summary: Steve Harrington meets you on the playground in 1974 and the first of many opportunities slip right through his fingers.
-----
It was on the playground, hot summer sun still hanging on for dear life, where Steve Harrington first saw you. The kind of afternoon where your skin burned on the way down the metal slide and the teachers, all huddled around the picnic benches comparing new students and reminiscing about sweet summer escapades, are too distracted after a long first week of the school year to notice your tears.
But he noticed. Watched as you tried to hold back the water in your glassy eyes. Watched as you twirled the end of your pigtail between your thumb and forefinger to soothe and distract yourself. Watched as you wandered over to the shade of the tree to curl up and sit by yourself.
Steve wasn't really sure what it was about you, but he felt the overwhelming urge to go and check and be sure that the girl with the bows in her hair and the rosey, sun-kissed cheeks was okay. Little Steve Harrington, dressed in shorts, his little league Tshirt and tube socks falling more loose than they should around his lanky legs came up along the tree and stood, unnoticed for some time. He was there, toeing stones around in the dirt gathered at the tree roots, about to turn back around when he shoved his hands in his pockets.
Little hand now wrapped around his leftover fruit snacks from lunch, shoved deep in his pocket for later, he knew just what to do. He tugged at his socks, tickling where they bunched up around his ankles and when he felt presentable, he moved around the tree trunk - arm outstretched with the pack of snacks on display.
You peered up through your eyelashes at this disheveled looking boy, everything he's wearing not fitting him quite right and his slightly unruly hair sticking out haphazardly from behind his ears. He was grinning, looking back and forth between your eyes and his offering held out to you. He noticed that your eyes are not as glassy anymore, but they're red from rubbing. Your cheeks are still flushed from the heat and you are sitting there, hugging your knees while the edges of your pleated skirt drags through the dirt, leaving an orange-brown tinge in it's wake.
You shuffled up to your feet, wiping under your nose with the back of your hand. The quick motion startles Steve a bit and he's so stinking embarrassed as he drops the pack of snacks into the grass. But then you giggle and it's the first time he's actually seen you smile. All teeth and dimples dug in deep on both cheeks. He can't help but grin back. He crouched down to snatch up the package from between blades of sun-scorched grass, stepped towards you and put the package in your empty hand.
Just as Steve opened his mouth to ask you what your name is, tell you his, ask if you're doing okay…  Miss Johanson called for him. He notices she sounds exasperated. She's been looking for him all around the playground for the past 5 minutes and at this point, she's losing patience that he's not yet in line like the rest of her class. His mouth still gaping open from the unsaid babbling of a child, he looked over to her standing on the blacktop, hands on her hips.
As he turns back to the space in the shade, expecting to see you still standing there so he can finally spit it all out before he gets reprimanded any more for making his class late, you're already gone. Dirtied skirt skimming the angry red burn on the back of your thighs, pigtails sailing through the air as you run towards your group, lined up at the door on the opposite side. It's then that he hears Mrs Mitchell shout your name.
Steve Harrington still remembers that day. He remembers how absolutely stupid he felt after his teacher interrupted the most perfect meeting. One you could tell your kids about as they grow bigger. The kind of story you tell over and over again when people throughout your life ask "How did you two meet?" He laughs when he thinks back on it now, because of course It played out the way it did. Of course there's no story to tell.
He should have taken Miss Johanson's interruption as a sign. He should have expected that every moment he tried to tell this angelic, wild, strong, perfect girl something important - something he felt with all his soul - would just get ripped away from him. Like the fruit snacks in the grass, Steve Harrington seems to be spending a lifetime with you slipping right through his fingers.
