(Hi Winner, bye Winner! 💔)
For a moment there though I thought they'd go the Miracle of Teddy Bear route and have the Joes finally meet in the in-between (and negl I'd have loved that) but nope, it's the Ajahn and I can't even be sad about that. 🙏

i wish ming had brought a recording device to the almost apology scene to joe. i knew from the get go tong would try something fishy. of course, later on tong would use ming's sexuality against him (making ming come out to his mother without consent). luckily, ming did a scorpio move and told his dad personally. that way, tong can't use it as collateral anymore. its nice to see his former toxic scorpio traits being flipped over to positive ones. they call it 'obsession' when he is loyal. and 'controlling' when he's taking care of someone else. obviously, tong is trying to control the narrative. i meet those types myself. and the truth is always the best move. action speaks for itself. the whole vibe had this music video tbh.

People who live blog new episodes of TV shows drive me up the wall. Not everyone wants to see spoilers plastered all over their timeline when they haven't had the chance to watch yet.
At least have the decency to use a specific tag so people can mute...

oh wow, I was told that the show My Stand In follows the novel Professional Substitute very faithfully but I didn't realize. Somehow I was sure the bathroom sex scene was added but nope it's here.

I just don't understand how you like S*l? He is actually right up there with T**g for being the worst. There is nothing good about him, sorry.
i don't understand the wild and weird hate against sol (or even remotely comparing him to tong) but here we are, anon. like if joe out right saying sol is a good person can't convince ya'll... idk why you're asking me?
anyway... you asked for my thoughts and opinions, so you shall receive.
sol is just a really interesting dude to me. he's just some guy that i think is really neat. he's a thai kpop idol and FAMOUS famous but he isn't like tong about it. he's kind and just a really good-hearted person. he's the sunny type, cheerful, caring, and loyal to his friends. like joe, sol is a sunflower in the toxic showbiz world msi is set in.
(tbh i see him and ming, who is also a fascinating character, as kind of two sides of the same "rich and famous" coin. ming is cold, aloof, calculating with walls as high as elon crust's ego is inflated. and then there is sol, open and kind-hearted. which is exactly why he and joe hit it off. funny though, ming and sol are petty but like on completely opposite ends of the petty spectrum.)
after lovingly bugging @zhouxiangs for novel spoilers i really wished the series had touched more on sol and joe's history instead of just a few throwaway lines here and there because sol's story ;3; my smol bean of a son. (and this is where media literacy and nuance comes in :D but y'all barely have any of that.)
joe and sol were very close . they ate, trained, and slept (sleeping type of slept lol) together. they did everything together. and then sol found out joe was gay (in the novel sol was also struggling with his sexuality) and then joe confessed to sol. joe liked sol first (not this weird warped reality y'all are living in where sol has been obsessing over joe). but anyway, sol was young and scared and dumb. he was afraid of being taken advantage of and also of his own feelings for joe and he ran away. joe got over it and never held it against him.
while in korea, it seemed that sol struggled to connect with people and went through some tough times as a trainee (i'm quoting from porsche's interview) and he realized his true feelings for joe so when he had the chance to return to thailand he took it and he sought out joe to reconnect. as a friend, as more.
was he supposed to have some sort of psychic link with joe that he was already seeing someone? obviously not. but when joe made it clear he liked ming, sol backed off romantically. he didn't back off as a friend though. (idk about y'all friendless gremlins but if one of my close friends was in the situationship from hell that joe was in... i'd also try and make them see reason, open their eyes. like sol once having feelings for joe does not diminish his friendship with joe. at all. (yes the scene of joe and sol in the van in ep 6 means everything to me. joe and sol were friends, brothers even. and that scene showed it.)
fyi, novel sol recognized joe too :D
ANYWAY, it was interesting to see the change in sol after joe's death. he isn't his usual cheerful self, but he's still kind and polite if a bit more reserved. and i for one love the cattiness with ming he has going on? LEAVE MING ALONE i see y'all shouting but me I WANT HIM TO PUNCH MING IN THE NUTS ONCE (if y'all can project, so can i) like ming deserves to catch a bit of shit from sol (his 'khun chai ming' sent meeee), since his and tong's bullshit directly contributed to the death of his best friend.
is sol perfect? no. (the fight with ming where joe got hurt. or the phone call scene that resulted in joe effectively being cut out of sol's life. again.) but are any of these characters perfect? absolutely not.
sol though is strangely villainized and for what? because he's trying to help and protect his friend (and is maybe being snotty with ming but... deserved tbh lol)? because he might be feeling a little righteous and fafo with the guy who took his friend away from him? because he once had feelings for joe but then redirected them into being a decent human and a good friend?

My Stand In Thoughts So Far As A Novel Reader (Potential Spoilers)
I find it kind of ironic that before the series came out most novel readers were (and still are) mostly satisfied with Poom's casting of Joe/Zhou Xiang while being skeptical of Up as Ming/Yan Mingxiu.
Now that I've watched 2 episodes I can say Ming in the show is honestly way closer to his novel characterization than Joe is. Tbf this doesn't have to do much with casting so much as writing, but it's funny as I'm having way more notes and thoughts on Joe than of Ming (who Up is pulling off pretty well). I am digging the show and how they've adapted things, and I think what they're doing is that with the shorter runtime that they have they're breezing quickly through the story and getting straight to the drama, while the novel more gradually builds up to it. If you read the novel Zhou Xiang isn't so down bad for Ming Xiu in the beginning. In the scene where Ming Xiu gets angry at him for assuming that he's jealous and storms off, Zhou Xiang brushes it off and falls back asleep (which is hilarious, he's just like "I'm too hung over for this"). Ming in the show otoh, the show is expanding on his backstory and giving him more humanizing moments but overall he's mostly the same as his novel counterpart.
Honestly if I wasn't too lazy and more articulate I'd love to do more of a comparative analysis of the differences between Novel Zhou Xiang and MSI Joe and how they affect the narrative. Maybe I'll wait until more episodes are out before thinking of doing that.

A couple of days ago, I decided to start reading Professional Body Double, which My Stand-In is based on. My aim was/is to read the chapters for each episode that's released (because I still don't want spoilers).
Other stuff got in the way, though, but I finished reading ch 20 last night (which is just around the end of the 2nd episode since the series seems to include 10 ch in each ep so far).
Anyway, I only have one comment at this point...
Seeing how annoying Lan Xi Rong (the character Sol is based on) is in the novel and how shitty he treated Zhou Xiang (Joe) in the past (I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it), I'm wondering why they "sanitized" him a bit in the series (at least thus far).
Maybe it would've been too much to have yet another annoying/assholish character in the series? Or perhaps they just omitted that piece of backstory because it won't matter to the story MSI wants to tell?
With that said, though, I do still feel like Lan Xi Rong's general vibe is translated well into Sol because I've felt iffy about Sol since the start, ever since he implied that he came back to Thailand because he craved the safety of Joe (compared to everyone else who approached Sol to take advantage of him). He also shows up around Joe all the time (dare I say he's feeling a bit stalker-ish?) so there is an annoying side to Sol as well.
I know they're not completely the same character (since adaptations are only adaptations, even though MSI is quite true to PBD as far as I've watched and read) so Sol might not end up being as annoying and shitty as Lan Xi Rong is (at least as far as I've come in the novel at the moment). But I'm still glad my intuition works on fictional characters as well (lol).
Anyway... I'm hoping to read the remaining chapters (up until where the 4th episode of MSI ended) before the 5th episode is released tomorrow. And then I'll read the novel in tandem with what happens in the episodes (unless I start to see bigger changes in MSI compared to the source material and put a pause on the novel to avoid spoilers/enjoy the series as is).

Oh no! ming was pathetic pathetic. Like gnashing teeth at anyone saying Joe is dead during those 3 years pathetic. Entering the industry so that his face may get plastered everywhere so that Joe may see him pathetic. Holding onto his condo bc Joe will return and not letting anyone in and leaving it as it is for 3 years pathetic. Depressed and passing through life, thinking it is better to die if it means he can be with Joe pathetic. Thinking if science and technology won't help him reach Joe, then spirituality would pathetic. ( his brother's spiritual master who is a monk told him Joe is neither dead nor alive and that pulled him out of his suicidal state). The words of the monk is why he is always so suspicious of Joe 2. He is like who are you. Why are both so similar. How do you know this. How do you know that. And when he realizes who Joe 2 is. He is like grovelling on his knees, take me back pathetic.
