Perfect way to end 2023. Hiked 10.5 miles along the side of Coldwater Lake, near the base of Mt. Saint Helens. Beautiful weather.

the ashes;

after i was released by the hospital,

i may have done a bad thing.

i took a handful of ash,

just a little bit,

enough that i could feel it soft and silky in my palm,

and i leaned out over the back garden,

to toss that ash into the wind,

and i watched the particles disperse soft and slow,

snow in maytime,

and i thought about

its provenance.
